  • Heroic(Major): Jakob has always been a sucker for a sob story and nothing has changed. His father told him “Those that can should help those that can’t”. He lives by those words.
  • Loyal (Minor): If Jakob accepts you job, he is yours till the end. The people he cares about are worth fighting for, even if they are idiots.
  • Poverty (Minor): Jakob’s more...seedy habits tend to affect his finances more than he admits. It also doesn’t help that he would give someone the shirt off of his back if needed.

  • Investigator: +2 on Investigation and Streetwise
  • Strong-Willed: +2 on Intimidation and Taunt; +2 vs Test of Wills

Background

Jakob Tillman has spent his life as a professional "Gopher". Clients hire him to "Go for this stolen property" or "Go for that bounty", and he would. The life of a "Retrieval Operative" as he likes to refer to himself is dangerous, exciting, and, most importantly, lucrative. That being said, a time comes in a man's life when all he wants to do is settle down and relax. Maybe buy a farm, get married, have a gaggle of kids....Jakob lasted about 3 weeks before he decided retirement is for the birds and farms are for idiots. So now he's back in the saddle and looking for work...assuming a bullet doesn't find him first.


The Tomorrow Legion:

Sometimes a job takes you places you didn’t plan on going. For example, Jakob never planned to visit a roadside ditch in El Dorado and he certainly never planned to do so while nursing a broken leg and more than a few broken ribs. Truth be told, he was lucky the Crazy got bored when he did. Jakob winced as he thought back to his last freelance job.

The client had an ex-wife that had made off with some family heirloom, a book from the Time Before. The money was good and Jakob was broke, so it wasn’t hard to talk himself into taking the job. It only took a few days to track down the ex-wife…sadly, it appeared that the client may have left out a few pertinent bits of information. For example, that heirloom book turned out to be a magical grimoire. The ex-wife? She was a Ley Line Walker. She’d taken the book and hired some enhanced muscle against her ex’s inevitable backlash. None of this should have been a problem, but what should happen and what does happen rarely line up. Just as Jakob was making his way out of the warehouse, one of the Crazies stepped out for a smoke. Jakob is fast, but this guy’s speed was….well, insane. He started working Jakob over with a Neural Mace, giving out the gifts of electricity and blunt force trauma like a back alley Santa Claus. After what felt like an eternity, the Crazy suddenly stopped, distracted by some kind of bug that flew by. Last Jakob heard of him, he was rambling on about getting a specimen jar. Jakob crawled to a ditch and laid there for a few hours, focused on his labored breathing. Luck is a fickle beast. If Jakob was really lucky, he would have never ended up in this situation. As it is, Jakob was just lucky enough to have a group traveling to Castle Refuge come by his ditch (a home away from home in many ways) at that exact moment. He was also lucky enough to find that this group had an old Sawbones with them that made a decent job of patching him up. However, Jakob was not lucky enough to have this all done for free. Newly depleted of funds, but healed up enough to look for work, Jakob decided he was desperate enough to make one more bad decision. Signing up with the Tomorrow Legion can’t be all that bad….right?

line, hooks, and other elements necessary
for fishing and small game trapping.

where food gathering is concerned.

-Three saw wires, composed of serrated,
high tensile strength wire and two ring
handles. Capable of slicing through
wood, stone, and even non-Mega metals.

-One fire starter, a combination solar
powered ignition cell and flint sparker
(with six extra flints).

- One survival knife, one small hatchet,
and one wooden cross.

-Four signal flares.

-One climbing kit with 30 feet of
lightweight cord, a pair of climbing
gloves, four ceramic spikes, and a small
Mallet.

- One bar of soap and a sterilized cloth.

- One canteen.

-Two weeks worth of minimal
sustenance survival rations in sealed
pouches
