I feel like the 'he needs help' response would be better at 5 than 6.
Not that it's likely to come up this time, but just as a matter of course.

Since you're not rating him 9s and 10s, how about providing some feedback. At least one thing that you think needs improving. Two things would be better. Remember, the beatings will continue until morale improves, so improve morale by giving feedback!

Re: Quarterly awards and poll.
Happy to! Wasn't sure what the protocol was; didn't want to assume.
My feedback: I feel like a lot of time in the GM's posts is taken up by reiterating what each player posted. It's actually a bit of a chore sometimes fishing through the updates to find the actual -new- information, that I need to react to in my next post. If you must do this, I suggest the use of Quote tags to help keep things organized? That said, many times it's not necessary at all, because you're not updating us each individually in many cases...but rather moving the action along for all of us at once.
I also have...concerns about how the encounter was designed, though I readily acknowledge that this is the first encounter of the entire game, and am more than happy to give the benefit of the doubt on it. Even so, it took a lot of confused messages and so on to get any kind of concrete feedback as far as relative positions, ETAs, and all that.
And as a general principle, I'm very wary as a player about encounters where entire character types become unable to contribute. Murderwraiths apparently fit this description. Not to say they can't be used...but I'm wary about them being used casually. In this last encounter there were not one, but two 'splits' that arose in the group based on A) Our ability to traverse a half-mile of river in a meaningfully rapid manner, and B) Our ability to inflict damage on a foe that can only be harmed by a small list of effects.
Most of the gang fell outside that Venn diagram, and there was a lot of frustration about it. I personally was not unduly affected, but I totally understand the reaction of those who were.
I'm aware this all makes me sound like a huge critic of the game so far, and if this sort of thing was part of a larger pattern, I probably would be. But I say again...all of these things happened in just the first encounter of the game. New game. New cast. New GM. These things can happen. I am willing to put my faith in the vision of the GM, and in the belief that he will continue to learn and grow into the role as we continue. Running a game is hard, and rough starts aren't unusual.
Keep at it!

Re: Quarterly awards and poll.
Hello,
Deezy's feedback is solid.
Regarding the Encounter
The group on one side of the river was very limited and the other group had limited ability to hurt the foe presented. A perfect storm! In terms of solutions there are a few options, 1) give those who can't get there on time so other way to influence the action and 2) Give crystal clear understanding of relative position. I know you are concerned about maps but really accurate notations can help too. When splitting up a team it can help to use headings and name who is involved in the scene, then describe the scene. This is also helpful when a post covers multiple time frames.
Regarding Summarizing Actions
Again, Deezy's point is helpful. One trick I've seen is to use are a one sentence recap of what the players did, especially if there was a lengthy discussion.
Hopefully these are helpful.

All that being said; Holy Smite on a Glitterboy? Hell yeah!Example wrote: West Bank (Deezy, Norona, Schoolboy, Adryen)
With a half mile of river between them and their teammates the group is at a loss for actions...
East Bank (Conrad, Beretta)
This ferry ride is going to cost an arm and a leg, well at least an arm. For now.

As you know being in my group I do like to include a summary of player actions for combat posts, but again making use of headings is helpful but in those cases use the character's name. I do this so you can see you action and the foes reaction in a kind of "action sequence". In another game, High Command bolds player names in every posts so they know exactly what to clue into.Example wrote:After the scouts shared their information with the group, they agreed to attack at dawn. Crouching in their positions as the night slowly ebbs into day the 32nd SET is ready to move. They can see...
Hopefully these are helpful.

Re: Quarterly awards and poll.
I agree with the encounter information problems (but know they actually didn't originate with the GM so much as triggered at an inopportune time). Murder Wraiths are just nasty even more so with the Juicer support it had. While Savage Worlds and Savage Rifts are Encounter Level open, a bit more discretion is needed on springing them. In many cases, fleeing is a very valid option--just not very possible with this situation. At that point, only option was fighting as both groups would out Pace the PCs stuck with them. It just was a recipe for disaster :-/

Sounds like I joined the game in the middle of a difficult encounter. Glad I can appear to back you all up. Gonna be tough from what I can gather but it's a good thing I have magical attacks that might be able to hurt the baddies.

Re: Quarterly awards and poll.
I do appreciate the feedback provided, and frustrations. I will endever to incorporate your feedback into future posts.
Re: Quarterly awards and poll.
some of what happened was down to player choices though it was a harsh first fight. it would have been easier if we had been together.
the other two main issues were the constant turnover in characters as 3 characters left in that fight which made it even more chaotic.
we could also do with being more open about our abilities with each other
For the GM, a bit more openness on the gaming mechanics side might be helpful
