Background

Born to stars of misfortune, or perhaps ambivalence, the fickle and unabashedly chiding circumstances of Leonard's familial cradle dictated an inevitable odyssey within a harsh and unforgiving land, ravaged by time, magic, and preternatural wonders. . . although perhaps this sojourn of circumstance warrants the recitation of the world Leo came to understand before venturing beyond the enduring walls of his forebearers.

It began during an age of technological renaissance, the genetic mastery of man having reached a glorious plateau of moral ambiguity -- free reign had these divine aspirants, over the earthly creatures whom in their benign forms had grown dull to procacious minds. Such audacious musings resulted in a plethora of novel chimeras, hybridities of man and beast bestowed sapience and moral reason. Inheritor to the noble lineage of Schparkle-butt: supreme gene-matron of a genetic legacy that not only endured the times of darkness, but thrived in the ravaged wastelands. Chosen for her wit, guile, regality, and obedience, the scientists of yore fashioned a pedigree of supreme competence from the very essence of a Crufts habitual best in breed. It bears no surprise that many such descendants became heroes of myth and legend throughout the age of darkness, or so it is orated to those deemed worthy of inheritance. . .

Leonard was weaned within the halls of a ruined NEMAN bunker, the moldering mega-crete walls serving as the firmaments of his youthful horizons. Here the young pup was thrust into a world of waiflike exile, having been the proverbial "black sheep" of his family. The seventh pup of a seventh pup, and the unfortunate runt of his litter. It was immediately obvious that from his youngest days, he had not inherited the physical gifts of his kin, an offense that garnered him the shame of his father, and the pity of his mother.

Aloof from the earliest of days, Leo was always content to observe, rather than interject. . . a peculiarity that belated his vocal development, and consequently allowed for his lack of tonal finesse to go unnoticed for quite some time. His peers were quite capable of nuanced recitations of complex and lengthy histories, while Leo was confined to degenerate and dog-like vocalizations -- much to the dismay of his parents. This led to an unorthodox separation from his peers, where Leo was to be educated in private by the communal elders and tended to by his nurturing mother whilst the other pups were jaded to the harsh realities that lurked outside their home. That isolation only exacerbated the habitual attraction of unwanted prejudice.

From the earliest stages of his development, it was noticed that while Leo was almost comically abandoned by the strength and physical prowess of his kin, his cognitive gifts, however, far exceeded what had been previously encountered. His vast intellect was so anomalous that his tutors often ran out of concepts to teach, even the most complex of notions were not lost on the bright, yet frail youth. This imparted a great deal of empty time, with which Leo developed a penchant to wander the forbidden, and often dilapidated recesses of the subterranean bunker. . . a quintessential adventurous child.

His youthful detachment often earned him the enmity of his brothers, burdened with the harsh realities of combat training and the doldrums of physical conditioning. Leo, it was decided, would serve a logistical roll for the compound, given his intellectual acumen, he could easily master the difficult and nuanced maintenance that was necessary to keep the relic-base operational. Bored to tears of routine lessons, it was decided that the easily distracted Leo would be instructed in the arcane sciences of the golden-age, which albeit fascinating, were just as easily conquered. It was inevitable that such an active mind was left to wander the more courageous and fantastic mindscapes; Leo wanted nothing more than to rescue damsels and ne'er-do-wells, slay dragons and live to tell tales about it. Youthful fantasies that earned him mockery form his warrior siblings -- mostly in good nature, due to his physical frailty. Still, the act of which served to embolden the degrees of cultural separation that dictated his future. . . never more had his dreams seemed so out of reach.

While the lessons of martial conflict were not forbidden to Leo, it was considered an unorthodox and lackadaisical waste of time, better spend honing pragmatic skills that would serve his social function. All Schparkle-butt's were demanded at least cursory combat training, but the more refined techniques required too significant an investment, and were indeed reserved to those actually intended to see combat. It was decided to hasten Leo's basic weapons training to satiate his youthful exuberance, but only during his off-days whilst no pressing issues faced the community at large. Although he wasn't particularly adept or inspiring during his displays of martial prowess, there was something to be said about his moxie!

It was on the eve of his 17th birthday that Leo had been wandering some of the more ruined halls of the bunker -- he had finished the morsel of weapons training allowed to him and once more he wanted to occupy his wandering mind. Having found himself with the deepest recesses he had yet delved, weathered heavily by age, Leo pondered the nature of his social status, the world to which he was born and the relative banality of his confined existence. Plopping down in the anemic light of an ancient ceiling fixture he moaned, there was something ironically relatable about this complex. . . eventually he slipped into unconsciousness, devoid of responsibility for the day, he simply desired a moment of respite. Yet, a fevered dream gripped at the recesses of his mind whilst he drifted into unconsciousness -- the feeling of being hounded by some supernal desire left him running, sprinting to get away!

Awaking with a bark, Leo struggled to regain his breath.

His life returned to blissful repetition, much to his disappointment, and Leo spend several years trying to numb the dull pain of boredom -- he developed something of a fondness for natural stones, gems, and minerals of beauty. His brothers would return form their excursions with gifts, as would other relatives and community members -- having always been enamored by shiny baubles, this innocent curiosity became more of an obsession. Actually a bit of a hording mentality, something to calm his tempestuous nerves. Ever since that dream, he had the eternal sensation of his hair standing on edge, which given the gratuitous amount covering his body, was a bit uncomfortable. To ease his trouble mind, whenever there was a gem, stone, or curiosity to be found -- Leo laid claim. He would spend hours examining, chiseling and admiring them. Something of a worry stone.

This labored existence carried on until a fateful disagreement arose between Leo and a sibling over some perceived slight of caste during supper. Beginning of course with the accusation the only reason Leo had food was due to some innate bravery on the part of his brother, who then, in a very self-aggrandizing manner, attempted to steal some portion of meat from his plate--in a display of status. This was a rather poor decision, leading a very possessive Leo to stabbing the hand of the offender with a fork.

Unfortunately, warrior was a bit of a 'beyond reproach' status, and the transgression was laid solely upon Leo; his father chiding him for such a gross display of chutzpah, not only was he being ungrateful for his assigned role, but the disrespect and lack of prostration towards his brother was deemed unacceptable. His mother attempting to console him was almost within arms reach of her fragile son when a great wave of psionic energy emanated forth, all manner of utensils and furnishings were held aloft and confusion washed over the gathering. Leo was terrified, that feeling of dread years earlier returning in force beyond his reckoning, yet he was unawares of his contribution towards the outburst of energy and stood in astonishment and grief when a lapse of control sent suspended objects crashing to the floor.

For a moment, there was nothing but stunned silence as every pair of eyes fixated upon him -- feelings of intense shame and embarrassment washed over Leo and he sprinted from the hall towards the armory in a fit of hysterics. Giving worried chase, his father, mother, and several siblings lagged behind but mere moments. In his absquatulation, Leo couldn't think rationally, he could only focus on shame. . . he hardly remembered the bay doors to the garage were sealed behind ancient blast-doors, looking up he winced for the impact just inches away, but felt nothing. He opened an eye, only to see his body was a shimmering, iridescent blue. . .

The haste of the moment prevented him from digesting what had just transpired, he knew only that he had to flee. Hopping in the cockpit of an exploration vehicle, the controls seemed to intuitively respond to his commands. He didn't question it. The doors to the harsh outside world slowly opened, just as the interior blast-door began to creak in aged protest. His family arriving just in time to see the large vehicle pull out into the roaring tempest of a ley line storm. Separated from his pack, disoriented, and in potentially life-threatening danger Leo wandered into unknown territory. . .

After weathering the storm, Leo found himself in foreign territory. . . the misfortune of the situation exacerbated by his having never ventured more than several hundred feet from the exterior of his home. Now forcibly liberated from the entirety of what he had come to know, Leo sat in a state of shock. Eventually, having regained his wits, Leo searched the cab of the immense Mountaineer, finding nothing more than essentials and some nick-knacks (including a golden-age vinyl with some pretty kicking tunes).

Faced with the uncertainty of perhaps never reconciling with his loved ones, Leo decided to be optimistic and live out some portion of his childhood dream. A sojourn of circumstance, hopefully one that will lead back home. . .

Guadalupe Hidalgo (Human Female, Hispanic) - Bandito (Power Armor Pilot)

Guadalupe is a brash, arrogant PA ace in her prime, wreaking havoc throughout the Pecos Empire by means of hovertrain heists -- or anyone foolish enough to run valuable freight en masse throughout the region. Occasionally Merc work takes her beyond her western haunts, the marauding bands of magic-users allied with Alistair Dunscon in the aftermath of Tolkeen being one of those exceptions. During something of a purge, Guadalupe stumbled upon Leo and a mass of refugees being hounded by an automaton pilot -- after rescuing Leo she found his meek personality captivating, despite his poochy face. Now she oppressively stalks him whenever time allows.

Personality: Gung-ho, typical extroverted ace that takes what she wants.
Appearance: Standing at a lofty 5'11", Guadalupe is a dusky woman of Hispanic descent, sporting an air of supreme confidence. While attractive, an assortment of smug expressions belies her unscrupulous ways.
Skills: High
Availability: Fair
Information: Limited
Loyalty: Absolute
