Savage Showdown Poll: Prep Time

Post by Freemage »

Okay, there's been several suggestions around the use/non-use of a prep-round for the Savage Showdown.

The options are:

Drop'n'go: No prep time. You have to start cold.

Open Prep: A single round of prep time is given before all combats start. This is viewed as a strong advantage for AB-based characters, especially since they can choose the Powers they want to activate after seeing who they are fighting.

Random Open Prep: Some rounds would get a Prep-round, others would not, determined randomly at the same time as the map is set.

Fixed Prep: Players may choose, when making a character, to 'lock in' a prep-round as part of their character sheet. Once set, you are stuck doing this before every combat. This limits customizing to a specific opponent, but still lets AB-users have some use of their abilities.

If I could vote for more than one, then I would vote for both No Prep Time and Fixed Prep Time

Adventure Card
Contact
Your hero sees an old friend or acquaintance who might help him in his current quest somehow. Of course, he may also ask for a favor in return.
Enemy
Play at the beginning of the game session. A villain of the GM's choice becomes your character's sworn enemy and you may not soak wounds caused directly by him. Starting Now, you draw an extra Adventure Card each game session until the enemy is "retired".
Better You Than Me
Play when your hero has been hit by an attack and there is an adjacent character. The other character suffers the attack instead. This may be played on friend or foe.

I suppose with a multiple vote system it would allow you to say vote for a preferred and a back up.

Then you don't end up with a Trump versus Clinton situation.

Each player my now select two options.
  • 2D6 EFFECT
2 Catastrophe: Something goes terribly wrong. The GM must decide what, but some ideas are a new and permanent Minor Hindrance, the inability to use powers for several days, or an explosion of some sort. The backlash should be thematic if possible. If the hero tampers with dark forces for his abilities, for example, he might become corrupted or summon something sinister into the world. If he’s a weird scientist the device might explode for 3d6 damage in a Medium Blast Template, or he might develop a Quirk, Phobia, or other “madness.”

3 Backfire: The power succeeds as with a raise but affects a different target with the worst possible results. A bolt hits a random friend, boost Trait increases an enemy’s skill or attribute, etc. If there’s no likely target, he’s Stunned instead. If the power has a Duration other than Instant, it lasts its full term and can only be negated by dispel (the caster can’t voluntarily end it herself).

4–5 Short Circuit: The power fails but the Power Points allocated to it are spent, along with an additional 1d6 Power Points.

6–8 Stunned: The caster is Stunned (see page 106). She subtracts 2 from arcane skill rolls for the rest of the encounter (the penalty remains –2 even if she gets this result again).

9–10 Overload: The character’s synapses crackle and overload with power. He takes 2d6 damage plus the cost of the power in Power Points, including any Power Modifiers the player declared.

11 Fatigue: The character suffers Fatigue.

12 Overcharge: The power draws ambient energy from the air, automatically succeeding against the target with a raise and costing the caster no Power Points!

Looks like we only have 8 votes so far. May want to plug this if you'd like to see it go further so we have it reasonable sample
