Hell & Gone Special: Herra and the SAMAS

As Herra is battling the zombie that cut her, there's a single 'boom' and suddenly, its head is simply gone. A mechanically augmented voice speaks from behind her. "Okay, you're fighting them, but you're doing it with a glowing energy sword. I'm going to have to ask you to drop or dispel or whatever that is, and come with me to speak to the captain. If you try anything, I WILL fire again."

Glancing over her shoulder, she sees a SAMAS pilot--a living one, obviously--pointing a railgun at her. He probably knows how to operate that shoulder-mounted rocket-launcher, too.

Okay, here's the situation:

The SAMAS pilot does NOT have the Drop on Herra, but he is essentially on Hold, meaning he can try to interrupt her with opposed Agility checks if she does anything obvious. He's also not particularly likely to be inclined to wait around. That said, he's not shooting first and asking questions later, so... hooray?

BTW, I dealt Herra an Initiative Card (after all, it could've been a Joker, which might've influenced her decision: No such luck.

  • Obvious Options:
  • Try to take him down with Puppet or some sort of attack and get away without being caught. If you go this route, you should declare your intention and then post an Agility roll before any others--we'll need to see if he can interrupt you before you roll.
  • Go along with him, and hope you can negotiate with the captain in some way.
  • Go along with him, but also turn on your comm to 'send' mode, so that everyone else at least knows what's going on.
  • Turn the comm on, then try to stall in some fashion so that you can be rescued by the rest of the team. Of course, this opens up the possibility of other CS troops coming in, too, which would probably devolve into a firefight anyway.
As always, creative solutions are perfectly acceptable.

Knowing the SAMAS has her dead to rights makes Herra pause from the grim work of hacking zombies. Turning slowly, a trickle of blood runs down her forehead from where the undead managed to claw at her face. Cancelling her sword with merely a thought she also focuses all of her senses on her surroundings trying to see every possibility - even before it happens - while she slowly turns around to face her captor and makes piercing eye contact (OOC: Activating Greater Deflection). Suddenly her eyes go as large as saucers as she looks behind the SAMAS aghast and points.

"We're not done yet!" She calls out urgently, "There are more coming through the trees!" (OOC: Smarts trick)

Herra's distraction never makes his gun waver--but it does cause him to double-check his sensors briefly, meaning he fails to notice the moment of concentration on her face as she attunes herself to the strands of fate. Then he declares, "There's nothing there. Let's get moving, NOW."

She got a success on the Trick, so he thought she was being sincere, and there's no visible Trapping on the Deflection power, so she's good there. He's at -2 Parry until his next action (he's underestimating her, assuming her to be a lone, scared civvie psychic, not very competent)--and he's still on Hold.

Two raises. She has him for 10 minutes, and can extend that for 10 minutes per. Getting him to betray the CS or suicide will permit a fresh roll, but otherwise, he's hers.
The guard sees Herra's eyes glow, and his finger pulls the trigger, Herra looking directly down the barrel at an inescapable headshot. But apparently, the cold and ice has gotten into the weapon, and it jams. And then her power wraps itself around his mind like a leash around a loyal dog--apparently, soldier-training makes some folks more susceptible to command. Half a heartbeat later, he lowers the weapon. "Of course I'm coming with you. I need to find out what's going on. Lead on, Mistress." If he's aware he uttered the honorific, he doesn't seem aware of it.
