This is an opportunity to have a site wide event that will allow everyone a chance to put their power gaming skills on the line. Have you ever read something and thought “Man that is super broken, someone with that ability would instantly will everything” <cough>Master Shooting + Boom Gun<cough>.
Well now is your chance to prove it.
So here are the rules...


Rifts Savage Showdown!
  1. Double Elimination random advancement brackets matches.
  2. Each player may only enter one character.
  3. All session conditions reset each match, including but not limited to: Burn (Juicers get 4 as if running a oneshot), TW Gadgets, Bennies, ISP, and PPE.
  4. Each Phase of the Battle will take place on a different arena map provided by yours truly with players starting on opposite ends. But the same map will be used in all matches of a given round.
  5. Meta Knowledge is okay, this is not Role Play this is War Gaming!
  6. Fast Paced, in order for this to work you are required to post your turn within 3 business days or the turn will advance and your character will be on hold. Each bracket will be given 2 weeks to complete.
  7. Make a starting Rifts Character 100% Rules As Written, with a few exceptions.
    1. No random rolls in character creation, this includes but is not limited to Starting Funds, Fortune & Glory, Hero's Journey. For this one time event your character is designed however you would like. (Unfortunately this means your characters will not be valid outside of the arena.)
    2. No custom races. Races must come from Savage Worlds Deluxe or Tomorrow Legion Players Guide.
    3. No Sidekicks.
    4. The Characters may be built using only what is found in Savage Worlds Deluxe, and The Tomorrow Legion Players Guide.
  8. The characters will start with 0 XP, or if MARS 20 XP.
  9. No EP may be spent in the battle or making of the characters. They must be 100% Rules as Written.
  10. With all other official answers and ruling provided by Clint Black being final. If a ruling has not been made yet the Site GMs will arbitrate with yours truly making the final judgement.
  11. A Site GM will set up the individual starting rounds, map and initiative cards once each bracket is decided.
  12. Trapping: The mechanic effects of the trappings from TLPG are allowed, they can be renamed however the mechanical effects must be identical.
  13. Necromancy Trappings: As per the TLPG The mechanical effects of Necromancy trappings are not available to Cyber-Knights Ley Line Walkers, Mystics, Techno Wizards, Mind Melters, Bursters, or Dragons. (They may still be learned by MARS or Glitter Boys)
  14. Incapacitating a enemy for three successive rounds, such as slumber, grappling, entangle, etc will count as a win.
  15. As per Savage Worlds Deluxe Characters may spend starting resources and are assumed to have equipment ready prior to play beginning. I interpret this to include TW modifications and as such those will be available "at cost" for this Showdown.

Draws: If at the end of the two week real time round no clear winner is shown. The GM's will review percentage of resources remaining such as ammunition, PPE, and Bennies, with the winner being the character with the highest weighted percentage with Bennies counting as 50% of weighting and each other category having equal weighting in the remaining 50%.

Final Character Submission Date is 11:59 PST on 4/21/2018.

Round 1 will be initiated 5/1/2018.

Grand Prize $20 at drivethru.com, plus the unofficial title of Munchkin Overlord.
Second and Third place contestants will receive $10 at drivethru.com
There are no losers! Each participant will receive 1 EP as a Boon for participating in the contest.


Why Double elimination you may ask, Well as it turns out every now and then the dice hate a perfectly awesome build. Lets make them really show that hate for your character and prove it.


All Character Must be Built using Savage Worlds Deluxe and Tomorrow Legion Player's Guide only.



To help keep track of everything during creation, here is the site character sheet template to use: Blank Savage Rifts Character Sheet
Save yourself a copy and edit it until ready for submission.

If you plan to participate, please say so bellow.

These are examples of the maps we will me using for this conflict. As the beginning of each round I will declare which map is being used for the round and a special challenge (Primarily a skill roll of some sort) . If your character passes the challenge for the map you begin your next map with an additional benny. If the benny is not used it can carry into the next round.

Without Guidance in the rules as written for vehicle sizes on maps when your tokens are created the following guidelines should be used.
Size -2 through +2: 1 Square
Size 3 through 7: 2 Squares by 2 Squares
Size 8 or larger: 3 Squares by 3 Squares

EDIT 5/10/2018: When a Joker is drawn only the player drawing the Joker receives the benny. The opponent will not receive a benny.

Also, the premise of this showdown is to design a character exactly how we want, including choosing our HJ & F&G rolls.

I'm so in! I'm naming my character, The 1st Loser, in an ironic way, so, see, right, you get why that's funny, but it's like even more meta, see, because, like, we all know that my character will very likely be the first one knocked out, so if, like somehow he (actually, it's a she, but that has no mechanical effect, right?), manages to not die first, then the name becomes even more hilarious, blah blah blah...

I won't tip my hand of course, but I do think I have a pretty good combo of mechanical-effect based hindrances. Very mucnhy for me, very munchy.

Eh, it's useful, but I don't think it's a game-breaker, given that even a Filthy Rich character can afford, at most, 1 Minor and 1 Major, or 5 Minor Mods--particularly if you go with the 'tight' ruling that Clint favors on when the bonuses apply.

But players have always been allowed to spend starting cash. Most just don't know it

I admit, I'm still not seeing it. Some strong bonuses to a particular Trait are possible (I was wrong, there--you could get a total of +3, effectively, to a trait that starts at d12, which isn't insignificant--of course, it took you two Edges to get there). But there's other ways to that sort of ability level, and I really don't think this one route is somehow inherently superior (in fact, it has some specific potential drawbacks).

Spending starting money is raw, spending starting money on custom TW items at the base crafting cost is not.

I don't want to tip my hand too much, but the isn't so much that it allows the d12+3 (or even d12+5 or 6) trait rolls starting out. Its that it makes d4+2 very easy to get.

When a Joker is drawn only the player drawing the Joker receives the benny.
The opponent will not receive a benny.

ONe thing that looks to have been ignored in all of the posts in all the battles is per RAW you must declare all actions and intent before rolling.

This makes a large differnce as people like to change up the actions based on the rolls or remove themselves from vulnerability if the roll fails, while charge if it succeeds.

Lets get in the habit of posting intent prior to rolling. It does not have to be narrative, but it should include something like.
"Stand from behind cover, shoot double tap in the head and then duck behind cover."

Does this include all movement also? I always knew all action had to be declared, but thought movement could be determined after the actions.

Or can contingencies be declared in the statement of intent? IE If I hit, I do this, If i miss, I do that?

I ~believe~ (stressing for lack of certainty) that the primary 'contingency' permitted is a do/don't do. For instance, "I move into the room, and if there's anyone in there, I stop at the door and shoot them; if not, I finish moving into the room going towards the far door." What I don't think is allowed is, "I move into the room. If there is someone there, I shoot them. If there isn't, I cast Armor."

I also believe this is how it works. Mostly for determining MAP ahead of time as well as having locations on the map declared for each stop point.

Rules clarification:

I reread the vehicle and robot information and there is no rule preventing a Robot of Vehicle pilot from using arcane powers from the inside out.

There was a link shared where Clint gave a solid 'well yes maybe'. However it is not supported by RAW and was iffy in its stance.

So a character inside a vehicle can still use arcane abilities if they can see their target. (Unless they are direct in nature such as shooting a fire jet.)
