4.1 Take Me down to Paradise City (Open RP thread)

Post by High Command »

Rec Day!
Date: September 1, 109 P.A.
Time: 1420
Temp: 75 degrees in the barracks. 90 degrees outside and sunny.
Weather: Clear, with fog over downtown in the distance
Ley Line info: Old Chicago is rife with ley lines, but Fort Resilience is one of the few areas with none within a mile of the base.
Location: Fort Resilience: Barracks Building, in the mess hall,

It's been an interesting few months, and two week since the last time the entire platoon mustered. Because of the wide variety of skills in the group, loaning out specialists to other units is common. But something is changing. Those that have deployed have noticed increased movement out of the Federation zealots recently. There have even been confirmed sightings of the Penumbra team Command Sergeant Grimm mentioned on Rotation Day. More worrisome is that the forces so far seen include daemonix, demons, gargoyles, brodkil, and even some automotons - the magical equivalent of robot vehicles and power armor. Suddenly the tactics exercises against armored targets make more sense. But that would also mean facing a mage in close quarters. Standard tactical doctrine calls for focused fire and increased pressure so as to eliminate the threat. But a mage on an automoton becomes a much more...resilient threat. Still, a single sniper shot can take one down, so it's not a lost cause. But it gives you a lot to think about.

Today you have the day off. Your whole company does. Everyone is gathered and three rooms have been set aside for some R&R. there's room enough that small groups can watch TV, play video games, play pool, table tennis, and other lounge games, or access the gym's weight or cardio machines, or hit up the free weights. Also in the gym is a boxing or wrestling ring, and people take turns engaging in friendly bouts.

A dining hall and full commerical kitchen are also on site, and anyone who wanders through ends up in the less than tender care of Staff Sergeant Luciano Barret. A cajun from the south end of Arkansas along the Mississippi River, Barret actually grew up near Naval Station Baton Rouge and enlisted there. He transferred from the Navy to the Army after some action during the Juicer Uprising. He considers himself a chef, and today seems to preparing some food for later. Any mouthbreather who walks through the door is put on dishes or grunt labor (cutting potatoes or vegetables), while those with cooking experience are put on more delicate or complex matters.

The following rooms are arranged much like presented here, with small hallways between each. These are all on one floor, the ground floor, of one of the barracks buildings.

Wild Ace! [dice]4[/dice]
Steelcreek racks the pool table quickly, having now had quite a lot of practice during his time on base. He likes pool. Actually, he likes most of the games he's learned since being assigned to Old Chicago, but pool is one of his favorites.

As he gathers the balls together, he says to Grimes, "Best two out of three, there Grimesy?" Without waiting for a response, he says, "I'll break."

Taking his cue in hand, he lines up his shot and smirks. "Watch this one. You're gonna like this!"
Trick Shot 5
Agility roll for a trick [dice]2[/dice] +2 (Dirty Fighter bonus)
Wild [dice]3[/dice] +2 (Dirty Fighter)
Steelcreek strikes the cue ball at an angle, giving it a wicked spin as it speeds toward the racked balls. It strikes them off center in the formation, sending them spinning in all directions and knocking a handful of them into various pockets along the edges of the table. Steelcreek grins; the shot hadn't gone exactly as he'd planned, but it still looked cool.

As he goes to line up his next shot, he says, "So, I have to ask: the "psychic" designation. What's up with that? You don't have a lick of psychic energy on you, and any Stalker, Hound or Dominator worth his salt can see that at a glance. Why do they insist on labeling you with the rest of us miscreants?" Just a little bitterness comes through his tone as he says that last line.

Daryl Geimes, his hands shaking from his stint in the kitchen grabs the stick. I was just trying to do something nice for the men...
Earlier in the Kitchen
Day break, the perfect time to get baking. Daryl foumd a chefs dream here in the bear rec area. Plenty of flour, sweat cream, citrus, and sugar. Even a top of the line mixer and a quadruple oven. Everything he needed to get something nice for the men and women in bear company made. The recipie for Prosek's orange cream cake had been ingrande into his head since before he could walk. 6 eggs, orange zest from 2 oranges, beat the sweet creame for 5 minutes until it thickens. 4 cups of flour, 3 table spoons of brown buttered glazed sugar. Mix and with a pinch of yeast at let it rest for 2 hours. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes maybe 20 minutes at this altitude... A sniper shot hit Grimes in the head.

Grimes clutched the back of his head and met Staff Sargeant Lucino Barrett for the first time. The sargeant picked Grimes up and handed him the potato peeler he had just threw at his head, " My very own celebrity Mutie! I spent some time purising the wares in St. Marie, I seen you went you were just young. Woot! Is that the legendary oragnge sweet creame cake..." He turns the oven up to 415, and grins at Grimes, " Thera now we get it canjun style little boy mutie! What do you say to that master chef?"
Daryl had just spent the last two weeks in the pile of shit known as the jokers, he looked at the staff sargent and stapped too. " Yes sir! It will taste perfect sir, I love over cooked cake in the morning, it is how my momma made it. I was raised on it sir!"

Sgt. Barrett cocked an eye... " Sit there Mutie and peel these potatoes until you can't and then peel the rest." The Sgt pulled out his side arm and slagged the peeler in Grime's hands. " Dunt you ever call me Sir, and looks like we are all out of peelers so best wash up and use your pretty boy finger nails."
.
He looks at his nails, bloody ragged and half falling off. " Sure, Steelcreek is it? I can do a game or 2... Oh don't eat the potatoes some of my nails might have ended up in them." Grimes nods at Steelcreek's trick shot, " Nice, my brother he liked playing pool too."

Grimes on his turn takes his luck at a shot, but one of the Joker's who is taking some r and r tosses an uncooked potato at grime's head giving him some difficulty. A faint, " Nice shot fraker." comes out if the mouth of the tough looking Joker on the tail of the Potato shot.
Normal Shot 9
Agility [dice]0[/dice] ace [dice]2[/dice] wild [dice]1[/dice]-2 for being a Mutie Pacifist that the Jokers rag on.
Grimes jerks the shot accidentally sinking 2 balls at the same time. He rubs his head and places the hard potato on the table. " Yeah, it must be someone's idea of a joke." He is holding back a bit and smiles. " Lets keep playing."
Save a life Steelcreek, to save a life.

"Huh. Well, I'd bet the Corporal could get that cleared up for you. He seems pretty good at that sort of thing." He waits for Grimes to miss, and then moves to take his turn.

"The potatoes? Yeah, not much of a problem for me. Never really had a taste for them, and why waste my one meal a week on that?" He watches the balls roll and takes a long swig of Chi-Cola, stifling a belch.

He shoots a glare at the potato throwing Joker, but keeps his mouth shut. Human politics, he tries to tell himself, best to stay out of it. He doesn't know Grimes all that well in the grand scheme of things, but... well, they were in the same hunting party. The same unit. He knows the army doesn't work like the tribes back home, but an affront like that is usually met with at least a few threats, and maybe a fistfight. Nothing worth drawing blood over, but certainly requiring a response.

Distracted, he misses his shot and curses.

"Looks like you're up again, Grimesy. Do you mind if I call you Grimesy?"

Logan gets dressed in a clean PT uniform with jogging pants, the front of his shirt with a reflective gray skull on a black shirt while the back was a bear. The sides of his black jogging pants had a reflective gray lightning bolt pattern going down the side. He had thought about wearing his civilian clothes, but these guys were his brothers in arms. They were all part of the same army, and he felt he was best representing and honoring that by wearing his PT clothes to the rec day. Wright was about to go into the kitchen to grab himself something to drinkn until he saw SSgt. Barrett grabbing anyone stepping one foot into his domain and shanhaiing them into his service.

Instead, he entered the rec room with the various lounge games scattered throughout the room. Off to one corner, he saw Steelcreen and Grimes playing pool, there were table tennis set up elsewhere, and along one wall he saw something that made him smile. Rows of dartboards. He walked over in front of one and started loosening up his arm by throwing some practice throws.

Despite his arm not having been loosened up yet, Logan's practice throws are finding their mark more often than not, with the only trouble that he has is with hitting Bullseye and Double Bullseye, but he's not worried about that just yet. He knows once he's fully warmed up, he'll be hitting that as well. He looks around the room to see who's available, flagging down Marshall if Logan sees him enter the room, and see if he's up for a round of darts against him. If Marshall isn't interested, or doesn't show up in the room, Wright will eventually put out a general call to anyone in the room to see if there is any interest. If not, Wright is perfectly content to throw darts by himself, for a while at least.

Klinger gets up and gets dressed in PT clothes. Rec day, It has been one hell of an assignment already. Klinger stands at the mirror. It's still taken me as surprised how these eye work. I have studied them extensively and thought I knew all there was about them. Here I am standing with artificial eyes. The very ability of sight. I can only imagine how people with the artificial arms and legs must feel. Klingers takes a deep sigh and walks out of the room. "See you later roomie. Keep your panties on your side of the room."

Klinger walks down to the mess area for some breakfast. Bananas, I need some today. Cereal is a good idea. And some juice. This should be good for today. Klinger sits down and enjoys his breakfast, on occasion he will sit there with the food mid way to his mouth and allow the eyes to zoom in on the food in question. Its rather interesting how each object looks zoomed up. How I am able to determine the characteristics that make the whole. Klinger spends a moment to analyze a banana. That may not be the best idea. Klinger resets his vision and pays attention to everyone else in the room while he eats. Once Klinger is done with breakfast, he'll get up and head to the Gym.

Once in the Gym, Klinger asses the situation. Ahh, good. some machines available, just don't zoom in on the sweat. Klinger starts his workout with a jog. With a five mile run completed, Klinger gets onto a stationary bike. Klinger bikes for 10 miles. Once the bike ride is done, he'll take a short break and wipe down the machine. Feeling nimble and loose from the run and the bike ride, Klinger is ready to spar with people.

Grimes looks at the miss smirking slightly. I wonder if he is going easy on me?. " Yeah I am not sure if that would help my situation. The more I resist it the worst it becomes. No one really cared too much in basic you know. At the training facility we were in it together. Out here though more people seem to care, more people seem to want it to matter." Grimes looks at his shot. Not bad, I can... Ugghh One of the jokers presumably threw their stun batton at Grimes as he took his shot. A cry of "Eat this fracker." accompanied it.

Grimes' shot goes a bit off missing all his targets. He smiles his boyish charm smile at Steelcreek " Yeah man, Grimey is fine, reminds me of home. Man I miss it."

From behind Grimes a grizzled vet, the captian of the Jokers laughs pulling the cagar in his mouth out and tapping it over Grime's head, " What was that Mutie? You miss home?" He laughs looking back at some of the jokers and they laugh too. The weathered captian laughs again, the muscles underneath his fatgues seem to buldge. Compared to Grimes it seemed like this guy could snap him in two without a thought. Grimes muttered something. The captian knocked him onto the ground with a kick, a few jokers brought out the burnt sheet cake Grimes has spent most of the morning working on.
" I am sorry Mutie? I didn't hear you, but I heared you were up all morning makimg this burnt crap for the men and women in bear. You know what mutie, you're are just like this ugly looking cake... A mistake, a mistake in even being made. I hope Bear finds you of some use. You were not even worth our time." He dumps the sheet cake on Grimes' head. "You understan me mutie? Now clean up your mess!"

Covered is burnt cake, throughly humiliated Grimes does everything he can do to spring up straight and narrow, saluting the officer, " Sir, yes Sir!". The captian laughs and sits down at a table across the room with his men. Grimes looks at Steel shaking cake out of his hair. He rubs his knee where the captian of the jokers took him down and says weakly, " I think it is your turn. Sorry about that, you should have seen the other stuff they put me through. I'll get this mess cleaned up right quick. Grimes bends down low wiping his face and floor hoping Steelcreek did not catch the tears.

Total 14 including that -2. Those are some damn good fries!!
Raleigh Ray didn't mind that all he had to wear today where his PT clothes. With his hair styled to an maculate perfect coif -- high and irresistible to the ladies -- and expensive watch on display, he had more than normal R&R on his mind. Today the Ozark boy was going to bag him a lady, and get his Freaky Deaky on in spades!

After making his way to the open area, Raleigh Ray found himself a collection of lovely ladies (or as lovely as Army women on deployment got... he wasn't being too picky). They were all sitting around one of the TV areas enjoying a marathon of the soap opera Into the Flames, taking turns doing each other's hair. Raleigh Ray smiled to himself cuz if there is one thing he knew, and knew damn well, it was hair!

After taking a moment to make certain his hair was in perfect form, and rolling up the sleeves of his sweat shirt revealing his his skinny arms --- but emphasizing his stylish watch -- Raleigh Ray strolled his way over to the gaggle of women.

"You know, a French braid would frame her face better given the proportions of her cheekbones an' chin." he casually said for his opening line. Before he knew it the Casanova of Bear 2 was finger-deep in feminine hair and chatting away with the ladies like he was just one of the girls.

Progress was being made and he could feel himself getting closer to his primary objective. In fact, an opportunity for a pseudo-harem was beginning to present itslef ... When all of a sudden tragedy struck!

"Hey, Colton, were getting hungry over here." one of the ladies said. A big-boned cock-blocker named Barbra (when she said her name, she would over-emphasize the first 'Ba' sound) "Why don't you go to the kitchen and get us some hot fries?"

Raleigh Ray was about to casually dismiss the request when a few of the other women chimed in, all in agreement. Before he knew it he was banished from the circle and the soap opera marathon to gather finger-food for the tribe. Wanting to maintain his manly image meant he had to be the provider, so off to the kitchen he did go.

The moment he entered the kitchen Raleigh Ray found himself in the middle of what appeared to be an argument between some staff sergeant and virtually everyone around him in a 5 meter radius. The sergeant was barking at orders like he owned the place, putting people to meanial work as fast as they could be put to task. Hoping to avoid that fate and be derailed from his mission, Raleigh Ray give him a wide berth.

He was hoping to be able to find some ready-made french fries that he could just warm up for the ladies and satisfy the bottomless appetite of Barbara. No such luck. Instead Raleigh Ray found some potatoes that had already been peeled and a deep fryer that was conveniently all ready for use. Thinking himself lucky, he grabbed the knife and started to Julian the spuds into fries. All was going well, until...

*CLUNK Out of the blue a hard object smacked Raleigh Ray in the back of his head! He turned around and saw the grimacing face of Sergeant Berret staring him down.

"What makes you think you can come into MY kitchen and steal MY potatoes on MY watch?!?" he furiously said in his Cajun accent.

Before he knew it Raleigh Ray had a potato peeler jammed in his hand and found himself sitting there peeling 5 kilos of potatoes! Sensing his window of opportunity with the ladies rapidly evaporating while he was stuck here in this culinary purgatory, the Ozark boy worked that potato peeler as fast as he could. All the while the french fries he had prepared were pulled out of the hopper and put under a heat lamp.

Once done with his small mountain of potatoes Raleigh Ray pocketed a bottle of ketchup and took his batch of french fries, grateful they were still toasty warm and fresh. Once good to go, he raced out of the kitchen before he could be put to task again. Hoping he could salvage his opportunity to actually produce a harem for himself, he raced over to where the ladies were enjoying their marathon and enjoying their impromptu spa day... Only to discover some pretty boy Special Forces operator had moved in, filling his masculine void.

With a defeated disappointed sigh, Raleigh Ray looked around for a familiar face. It didn't take him long to find his roommate Wrighty Tighty playing darts. Well, at least the fries won't go to waste, he thought to himself.

As Raleigh Ray approached Wright, he carried his platter of steaming hot french fries in one hand and nibbled on one of them with the other. "Hey Wright! How's it hangi... OUCH!!" he started to say when suddenly a sharp pain stabbed him in his upper gum. "Motha' fucka'!!

After quickly placing the platter of fries down on the nearest table, Raleigh Ray stuck a finger into his mouth to fish out the stabbing offender. There, painfully wedged between his gum line and tooth, he pulled out a shard of fingernail!! Apparently the person who peeled the spuds he took to make his french fries made a butchery out of their own fingers in the process.

"Man!! This jus' ain't my day!!"

While the Jokers’ attention is on Grimes and the cake, Steelcreek surreptitiously moves nearer the captain, pretending to study the pool table, and extends the butt of his pool cue behind the captain’s foot. The captain takes a step back as he belly laughs at Grimes’ predicament and promptly trips on the cue, falling hard on his backside and letting out a less-than-manly squeal on his way down. Before anyone can notice, Steelcreek retracts the pool cue and puts on a surprised face.

”Sir! Are you okay? Careful, it looks like someone spilled food all over the floor. Real treacherous footing in here.”

The Captain falls unceremoniously and oofs as he does. He does manage to keep his cigar in his teeth, however. As he gets up, another officer appears, Captain Michaels, Company XO of Chicago Company. "Captain Schofield, you and your men a little lost?" He has the potato throwing prankster at his heels, who he turns to. "Corporal Standish, clean up this mess. You are on janitor duty for the rest of the day. Also, you will be doing the Captain's laundry for a week, understood soldier?" He turns back to Schofield and offers him a hand up. "Come, enjoy some food in the officer's mess with me Captain, but I'm afraid I'll have to ask your entourage to leave. Chicago Company has this space reserved, not the Jokers. But I'm always willing to treat a fellow captain. I'd like to hear more about your report where we loaned you a couple of folks from Bear anyway. Your report on both was glowing."

Captain Schofield grins at Captain Michaels. "Damn man, you're going to ruin my image." He claps Grimes on the shoulder. "Damn good Mauler driver this one. He put Betsy through her paces. And your man Marshal is one of the best room clearers I've seen to come out of an infantry company, though given this is Godmother's old unit, I shouldn't be so surprised."

Captain Michaels raises an eyebrow. Betsy it seemed was quite famous. "We aim to please. But really, get your people out of my hall."

Schofield grins and bellows. "Jokers, form up and move out. On to other pastures!" And with that, the special forces operators move out. Colton notices a visible drop in tension among the girls he had been hanging around earlier.

As they file out, Sergeant Dansk, the platoon sergeant for the "Bear" Combat Engineering Platoon for Chicago Company, moves over to Grimes and Steelcreek. "Well that's the last time I help out the Jokers for a while, at least until Godmother has a long talk with the Captain about treatment of our soldiers." She pauses. "By the way, in case the paperwork hasn't made it your way yet, you're both mine now. Got the Captain to approve it. I don't stand for people mistreating any of mine. I expect you to stand up for yourself, but if you can't due to regs, you come to me. If anyone is going to mistreat you, it's going to be me, and it's going to be for your own damn good."

Barret moves out of the kitchen and calls out. "Chicago Company, calling all cooks. I'm tired of baking and I want some of you knuckle draggers in here handling it. Someone find me Grimes, he owes us cupcakes. Oh yeah, the hot bar is refreshed with fries, chicken tenders, burgers, and hotdogs. Get 'em while they are hot. I made two batches of chili. Chi-Town Special, and some actual good chili from down bayou way! Get some if you dare!"

Several of the girls look very excited at the thought of cupcakes. Barbara is looking around. Anyone in the vicinity hears her asking, "Where did Raleigh Ray get to anyway?" A soldier entering the region where Colton and Wright are calls out to him. "Yo, Colton, the ladies of Second Platoon are looking for you."

"Hey Colton, stop choking on them finger nails!" Wright exclaims loudly enough so that the ladies he was with earlier could hear what he had said. "How about you eat some real food instead! I'll fix you a hot dog!" Logan goes over to where the food is and puts a hot dog on a bun and then adds onions, sweet relish, a pickle spear, some tomato wedges, banana peppers, yellow mustard, and sprinkled with celery salt. After that, Wright grabs a can of Chi-Town Cola and brings them both over to Colton. Wright didn't have the heart to mess with this food he was making for Colton on account of the fact that someone already beat him to it, apparently. "Here you go, this ought to get rid of that hang nail taste." Logan goes back to prep some food for himself to eat, deciding to get a burger for himself and a Cherry Limeade soda. He sits down next to his room mate, and taps the necks of his bottle to Colton's.

Stand up for yourself... If only they knew.
For the Love of family
It was a memory seared into Grime's mind. A man, dark complextion had a cigarette dangling from his lips. He had some kind of badge but from the stairwell of his house Grimes had carefully perched himself at he could not really make it out. In fact most of the details about the man were carefully obscured. It had been months since he had seen his father. Grimes was not supposed to know but his old man let it slipped he was testing out a new armor that would put those Quebecois in their blaces, a real glitter boy killer. During that time his sister had fallen ill. On some level Grimes knew this man represented his mother's and perhaps his little sisters last hope.

Grimes' Mom was crying, " Please, not my boy. You already have my husband, what do you want with my boy?"
The man's voice was full of empathy, " I am terribly sorry Daisy, but your son Calvin is a perfect canidate for our program... Your husband signed the papers, and we will take care of him and make sure your daughter receives the best care. My unit has how can we say alternative restorive techniques."
Grimes Mother just broke down, " My family, I need Calvin he is the only one that can run the bakery. What about Daryl, can you take him? Can you use him?"

The man gently pats the woman's hand. The pitterpatter of rain clashes from outside. " Well Daisy, when it rains it pours. Daryl is on your stairwell listening to our conversation. I need to finish this cig, and then I'll be on my way. If either he or your other more precious son come out by the time I am finished your sweet little daughter will be save. That I promise." The man gets up kisses Grimes' mother on the check and limps to the door. " Take care Daisy." The limping man leave, and for what seemed like an eternaty the sound of rain crashing down outside is all Grimes could hear.

Grimes slides down the banister and walks out after the man, his mom is softly sobbing. " Daryl, I...I..." Grimes opens the door and shuts it. I know mom, you love me. You just love Calvin more.

Outside, in his pajamas, Grimes sheilds his eyes from the rain. No one was there, just the crash of lightining the sound of thunder, falling hard rain, and a pin prick on his neck. Grimes falls to the ground. At the door way from behind him a small female giggles. She has dark glasses, and is a blond little mousey woman. Maybe best suted for a library than wet work.
" Always look behind you Grimey."
Grime's looks at his hands and fingers. He reaches out to shake Steelcreek's hand. " Thanks Steelcreek. Yeah you are welcome to call me Grimey anytime. I hear Sgt calling my name for some cupcakes. I understand if baking is not your thing, but I could use a fresh hand..." Grimes holds up his raw and worked ones. " Its not hard, my mom taught me everything I know. All you have to do is mix and pour."

Grimes heads back to the kitchen to get the ingrediants out. He passes by Colton and whispers, " Sorry man, my finger nails got in there. I'll make you a moist red velvet josephine... 20 minutes and you will be in heaven."

In the kitchen he has a soft whistle going and if anyone had ever been to the Creme De La Creme bakery out in Sault Ste Marie you would recognize it as the in store tune that is often played. Grimes glances at the grill man, " Looking good man, that dog is going to make someone happy!"
Days looking bright Grimes, maybe these guys are just like the ones in basic... Regular fighting joes.

Joe wakes up with a yawn as his alarm goes off at oh-four-hundred. Quickly tapping the alarm off as to not wake up Draper, Joe gets up from his bunk and softly grumbles as his bare feet hit the cold ground. Most technological nation in the world and our heat sucks. Joe thinks as he shuffles off to the head. Ten minutes from start to finish Joe is showered and shaved and making his way back to his bunk to grab his duty uniform. The slightly stiff fabric rustles as he pulls on the clothes. Joe lets out another yawn as he laces his combat boots up and grabs his cap, ready to head out into the barracks main areas.

Joe looks at the coffee maker and tries to will it by force of will to produce the caffeine he needs for the day. While the coffee brews Joe grabs some toaster pastry out of the cupboard and tosses it into the toaster oven. Breakfast snack and cup of coffee in hand Joe makes his way over to mission board and reads it while eating his toaster pastry. Rec Day... nice. Joe thinks as he hears the others getting out of bed and doing much the same as he had done.

Later that day

Joe walks into the Rec Room and looks about. Hmmm... What do I feel like doing? Joe thinks as he walks about. I suppose I could hit the ring Joe thinks as he makes his way to the ring. Joe shucks off his duty shirt leaving his undershirt on. Joe lays his shirt on the skirt of the ring and begins to put hand wraps on to protect his knuckles before hopping in. "So who wants a run?" Joe asks to anyone nearby.

After lunch is over, Wright takes Marshall up on the offer, saying "If I beat you in the ring, then you have to take me on over at the dart boards!"

Logan takes his shirt off as well and wraps his hands up to protect them. He warms up for a few minutes shadow boxing before entering the ring to face off a superior opponent. After that, he raised his shoulders and rolled his neck before entering the ring, taking one last deep breath the try and calm his nerves as he knew what he was about to do was nuts. He's never trained for hand-to-hand combat outside of Basic Training.

Starting from opposite sides of the ring, Logan huddled down a little bit in a fighting posture, and then as Marshall starts to make his move, he drops more and springboards his momentum toward his opponent, a wild hay maker aimed for the torso of the other man. But Marshall has an amused look on his face as he gives a powerful uppercut to Wrights stomach, but the momentum from Wrights wild charge powered through the first hit. And as Logan arm bounces off of Marshall's shoulder, Marshall's lightning like combat reflexes kicked in as his threw another punch, this time a straight cross across Wright's jaw. Logan is spun around and stumbles down to the ground, stars in his eyes.

The blow to the head must have knocked the mucus in there loose, because Wright is able to cough it up quickly as he quickly crawls across the mat to the nearest trash can to spit into. He leans back on the corner ropes for a few minutes to catch his breath from this latest episode plus taking that blow to the stomach and head. After that, he'll climb out of the ring and spend a few minutes on his feet taking deep breathes.

Waking early, Bouchard makes sure to mutter at Klinger with an appropriate morning insult before using the bathroom to freshen up. hot, running, water is a luxury of army life that few properly appreciated. Anyone who had to climb underneath a hab-pod and unfreeze pipes with a blow torch just to get frigid well water running in winter knew that hot showers were from the gods - and the army had them in spades. Not in the field of course, but with a base like Fort Resilience nearby you had to milk it while you got it. As a result she takes a ridiculously long shower, also to annoy Klinger.

Strolling around with not much on, she is happy to see the prude already left. Pulling on some PT gear she heads for the gym, working up a sweat after a shower was dumb, but the army wasn't going to run out of water anytime soon.

Walking through the rec rooms without saying much to anyone she lands in the gym, warming up with cardio then hitting the weights. When others start to filter in for some fighting and boxing she just keeps working. Slicing up aliens was one thing, punching out humans seems like a waste of energy. Unfortunately, she can't help but watch. When Marshall puts down Logan in a heap she shakes her head. Fighting a CQB Specialists is a dumb idea.

If it looks like Marshall is having trouble recovering from Wright's blow, he'll go check on his fellow soldier.

Raleigh Ray poped open the can of Chi-Cola and returned the toast. "To the best things in life... Wine, Women, and Song"

He enjoyed his loaded hotdog in ways that defied belief. Even if its concoction of toppings did irritate the freshly sore spot in his gums, it was a symphony of flavors that Raleigh Ray appreciated in his strange way.

"You make a mean dog, Wright! Reminds me of how my Uncle Bobo made them... Too bad they dont have grownd up rhino-boffalo pepper. That stuff really zests things up..." He then leaned in to whisper the rest like it were a secret. "... and gives you a raging woody for six hours!"

It was about then when Wright excused himself to try his hand in the boxing ring. As his roommate was leaving, Raleigh Ray offered his sage advice "If the other guy is better than you, remember to punch 'em square in the junk. If you ain't cheatin', ya ain't tryin'!"
Grimes wrote:... He passes by Colton and whispers, " Sorry man, my finger nails got in there. I'll make you a moist red velvet josephine... 20 minutes and you will be in heaven."
The second the confession hit his ears, Raleigh Ray opened his mouth to call the new guy a opossum-fuckin' dirty shit-maggot... but then two things happened simultaneously. He heard Grimes offer to make red velvet something-or-another, and he spotted the ladies he was putting the moves on calling for him.

"Tell ya what, new guy. You wan' ah make it up to me? Here's how ya can do that very thing. First, bring me a whole mess o' those red velvet goodies... I'll be over there with that gaggle o' ladies over yonder." Raleigh Ray pointed over to the TV nook with the women camping out in it, now absent the dreamy-handsome operator that move in earlier. "Second... I need me a wingman! There's mo' than enough cooz to go around over there, and I can't do this alone. I tried and couldn't protect my harem from a superior poon-hound from movin' in at the first sign of weakness."

Raleigh Ray stood up and waved to the ladies, then turned back to Grimes. "I NEED this, man! Are you in?"

Daryl Grimes brushes the rest of the burnt pan cake the Captian of the jokers dumped on him. He pauses grinning at Colton. Seems like these guys are ok. At least he did not call me a 3 legged shit maggot. Grimes agrees to help him out. " Give me 20 to 25 minutes and those ladies will not know what hit them. Have you ever seen what happens when their lips touch the sweet velvet cream of a Josephine cupcake?" Grimes winks and comes back with a dozen or so cupcakes immaculately made and more delicious than anything in bear might had ever tasted (Rolled a 23 to make the cakes). Grimes hands to tray of them to Colton and with no small amount of wonderment looking at the gaggle of ladies. Daryl asks with a boyish smile, " So what is the plan? Oh and is uhh Solene over there... I think last time I saw her I was threatening to drop a grenade. A cupcake might smooth things over if you know what I mean."

"If its anything like some explosion of orgasmic juices, I am breathless with anticipation." Raleigh Ray replied with an exagerated oggle, intentionally over-doing it. "See ya in twenty-five!"

After giving Grimes a tight handshake and a quick bro-hug, complete with a pat on the back, Raleigh Ray made a quick detour over to where all the food was laid out. As fast as he could, the simple minded Ozark boy grabbed a platter and scooped up a mountain of hot fries... He couldn't come back empty handled after all this time! There's no way he could slavage things if he failed in the simple task of being a manly provider! Caveman put wooly mammoth on the stone slab table; the least he could do was produce some greese-fried slices of spud.

Armed with hot fries and the bottle of ketchup still in his pocket, Raleigh Ray checked his spectacular coif in the nearest reflective surface, popped Frosty flavored dip pack in his mouth, and headed in. He carried the platter like a fancy waiter in a classy restaurant, while with his other hand he held his mostly drinkened Chi-Cola (so he'd have a discreet place to spit and minimize any offense to the ladies).

"Ladies!" he announced his presence like the returning hero, fresh off the field of battle. "I bring you comfort food! ... And in a very short while, my good friend will be bringing us Red Velvet scrumptiousness."

When Grimes arrived, Raleigh Ray was elbow deep in giving one of the lovely feminine Army Grunts a new hairdo; a pixie cut with feathered layers on the side (kicky, practically, and attractive!).

"Grimes, meet ladies! ... Ladies, meet Grimes!" Raleigh Ray cheerfully said, making introductions.

"But, yeah, if anything can put a smile on Buchard's, I'm betting one of your cupcakes can ... probably... Don't hold me to that... As for the plan, after Buchard, have a seat! When the morning is done Klinger hits the shower. Once clean, Klinger heads to the make shift mess hall. Grabbing some hot dogs, some fries, ketchup, mustard and mayo. Sitting at the table with his team mates. "How has your morning been?" Klinger uses the condiments liberally. Once done and everyone breaks up for the afternoon. Seeing a group of members head to the Gym, Klinger follows. It looks like morning may have been slow, but afternoon fights look promising.

Klinger keeps an eye on the fight between Wright and Marshall. Klinger will see to Wright after the fight.

Steelcreek heads back to help Grimes with the cupcakes.

Should be a new experience, he thinks. Grimes says it's easy, though, so how hard could it be?

The answer is, pretty freaking hard. Human food has so may ingredients, and so many of them look the same! Is this container full of flower or powered sugar, and how do they know without tasting it every time? And what on earth is the difference between baking powder, which makes sense: it's a powder for baking, and baking soda, which is nothing like the soda Steelcreek has come to know and love.

Fortunately, Grimes is in command of the kitchen, and Steelcreek gets to see the man in his element. I hope he can drive a Mauler half as well as he can operate a mixer, he thinks. Grimes always seems to be right at hand when Jaren is about to make a mistake, averting disaster in the nick of time.

At the end of it, Grimes presents Steelcreek with a small pastry topped with sugary frosting and wrapped in a crinkly wax paper. "Don't eat the paper," Grimes warns helpfully before moving off to prepare a plate for Colton and his lady friends.

Steelcreek carefully unwraps the confection before popping it whole into his mouth, and his world explodes in sweetness!

He immediately begins looking around for another and thinks idly So this is why humans get fat!

At the end of the small bout with Logan, Joe rubs his jaw and cracks his neck with an audible pop. He's got a good hit, some training and he could be dangerous.
Logan Wright wrote:"Yeah, well Marshall is the only one here who can feasibly challenge me on the dart board, but since he wanted to do something else first, I wanted to try and oblige him." Wright replies.
Joe chuckles. "Yeah, I'll play you... I just want to get a few more bouts in before. Keep my skills fresh so to speak." Joe says looking at the others in the gym.

Joe waits patiently in the ring, for Klinger to join him. Once Klinger is ready, Joe takes his place and does the opposite what most martial artist do, he posts... He stands unmoving waiting for Klinger to approach him.

"Logan lets throw some darts, I think I'll come back to the mat later." Joe says as he begins unwrapping his hands and stuffing the straps into his pants pockets. I suppose in return I could show you some fighting moves that'll make people and monsters think twice about coming to close to you." Joe says his face covered with a half smile and likely some rapidly forming bruises. Whether Solene agrees or not, Joe thanks her for her time before finally making his way to the mess hall.

Joe piles his plate high with food and covers it with sauces, anyone watching is either surprised or concerned that Joe is trying to consume ten thousand calories in one sitting.

Logan played against Marshall first since he seemed to be more ready after his match with Klinger. The game was close, but Joe won by a point in the end. The match against Klinger, Wright decided to level the playing field a little bit in favor of Klinger by turning his back to the dart board, using a mirror to throw aim at said dart board, and throw the darts over his shoulder at it. Even taking into account everything everything being reversed in the mirror, Wright found it to be more awkward than he'd first considered due to the way he had to hold and throw the darts over his shoulder. At one point he even almost threw a dart at someone else who didn't realize a game was being played due to Wright's back being turned to the dart board, but something told him to hold on the dart at the last second, and he was glad he did. In the end, his score was comparable to a novice who's had a few tournaments under their belts, but haven't developed any real skill yet.

Daryl walks by the dart game holding plate of cupcakes. The first batch had been cobbled up by the ladies, he needed a second just to keep them at bay! Hey waves at Colton. On my way back man. First though he nods at the gentlemen at the game. "Cupcake anyone? They say out in the quiet life of Sault Ste Marie nothing tastes better than a grime's made cupcake." Grimes absently reaches for a nearby dart and gives it a fling at the board.

Grimes tips his head and rejoins Colton with a fresh round of sweet cream lemon frosted moist cupcakes.

Alternate Universe
Grimes is offering cupcakes to Colton and the ladies who seem to be in some kind of sweet cream cupake frenzy. " Woa... Slow down their ladies. I am sure there is wnough to go arround." Grimes winces in pain as one of the soldiers took a chunk of cupcake right out of his hand along with a finger. Grandma Grimes warned me about this... Frak, we need more wingmen. Grimes notices Wright looking on waiting for him to throw a dart accross the room. Fortunately Grimes is a bit of a dart klepto and when he grabbed one he grabbed two. With his bloody finger he scratches a small note and adfixes it to the dart. The note reads S.O.S. food crazied zombies get Solene and bring help!

Then from across the room as Daryl Grimes gets swarmed by women needing and craving his cupkakes he tosses the dart at the board with his last bit of strength. Daryl cries out as bit of flesh are nobbled of him, " Damn you powdered sugar!!"
Grimes grins at Wright still holding onto the tray of cakes, " Sure man, 50 creds... And put in a good word with Solene for me huh? But lets make it fair, I got to get these cakes over to Colton before he gets mobbed. How about I throw from way over there.". Grimes grabs a dart, then heads over to Colton giving him and the ladies the cakes. Pride of the family, remember Grimes.. He throws from long range, a bit of a funky arm mechanic, but damn if it did not hit dead red center!

Play Continues here. But feel free to RP and have a good time. I left the time frame open ended for a reason. If you want to talk, if you never got a chance to post in here or otherwise partake in the downtime, I've left you an avenue to do just that. All bennies reset. If you have already, or post in this thread after this message, you start with an extra Bennie. Which means a base of four for everyone but Bouchard, Colton, and Grimes, who start with five.

Don't use any more bennies in this thread.

Then from across the room as Daryl Grimes gets swarmed by women needing and craving his cupcakes he tosses the dart at the board with his last bit of strength. Daryl cries out as bit of flesh are nibbled of him, " Damn you powdered sugar!!"
Raleigh Ray's eyes bug out of his head as he witnesses the the incredible dart throw, landing bullseye perfect! "My God man! Remind me to make sure you get ALL the hand-grenades next time we're out"

Seeing the ladies fully engrossed in the Red Velvet cupcakes, devouring them like a pack of staving wolves, and ignoring the offering of french fries he brought earlier, Raleigh Ray knew it was time to kick things up a notch to get this sex train rolling! Done with the feathered pixie-cut, he put on his velvet super-stud voice and smoothly said, "Now which one of you lovely ladies gets to partake of my magic fingers next?"

Though the enticing cupcakes were drawing much of the ladies' attention, not to to mention the competition from his handsome wingman Grimes (whom Raleigh Ray free acknowledged was a full notch more attractive than himself, but with Grimes being his ally and not actual competition, that was something he could accept without complaint), a cute petite red head eagerly raised her hand and started to make her way to the horny Ozark boy. Raleigh Ray's eyes leered and the corners of his mouth curled up in greedy anticipation at the sight of this perfect little sweetheart coming his way. He cracked his knuckles to ready them to give her the most seductive hair treatment of her young life.

"I'M NEXT!" shouted a fog-horn of a voice. It was BARbra. Before he knew it, BARbra had her meaty mighty hand in the red head's face, shoving her away like a boxer driving a haymaker. With a thud and a shake of the couch, BARbra sat down in front of Raleigh Ray, ready for him to make her beautiful. Stunned by the abruptness of what just happened, Raleigh Ray looked at the red head who was tossed back into far couch, and then giggled. Apparently the mighty giantess had a mastery over her hulkish strength and did no actual harm to her teammate. After five long seconds of nothing happening, BARbra turned her head up to Raleigh Ray and issued her command. "Give me buns! Big bun on the sides of my head! And make me twice as hot as her."

Raleigh Ray noticed she was pointing to the image the starlet Rebecca Roads in the TV; actress who played Rachel Crest on Into the Flames After shooting Grimes a glare for his failure to block the cock-blocker, Raleigh Ray resigned to the predicament, coming to conclusion that maybe all wasn't lost. Maybe, if he could pull of a hair styling miracle he could win over a few hearts and get his harem just the same. Challenge accepted, he though to himself with a shrug. "Alright, Barbra. You jus' ease on back and let ol' Raleigh Ray work his magic."

Before digging in, Raleigh Ray picked up his already-drank can of Chi-Cola, raised it to his lips to mime taking a sip, and instead deposited more of his own tobacco-sullied spit inside. it was then he noticed it was starting to amass a bit of heft from all the spit he had been sneaking in it for the past half an hour. He made a mental note to swap it out for an empty can pretty soon.

While BARbra's hair wasn't the worst he had ever dealt with, it wasn't coming out as perfect as he hoped for. He could tell her buns were coming out just shy of excellent, but not quite. He hoped BARbra had low enough standards to think otherwise. Beauty is, after all, in the eye of the beholder.

Putting on his best poker face, Raleigh Ray put on the finishing touches and handed BARbra the hand-mirror. "I have to say, I'm pretty pleased with how this came out."

She held the mirror up to her face and closely scrutinized her reflection and new Princes Leah-esque hair style. Raleigh Ray noticed the rest of the ladies went quiet and a few held their breath. The examination only lasted a few short seconds, but the tension in the air seemed to stretch out forever.

Finally, BARbra spoke. "Skinny boy... YOU ARE A HAIR ARTIST!"

The rest of the ladies breathed easy while Raleigh Ray maintained his poker face composure, never once letting on his doubts. And as a reward for his efforts, the cute petite red head gave him not only that special smile, but those special eyes too. At long last, he was approaching his end game!

Oooh Rah! Raleigh Ray thought to himself. I'm taking the long-boat up river to Tuna Town!

BARbra got up and went back to her spot, taking the hand-mirror with her, and the cute read head sat down taking her place. In that particular voice she asked Raleigh Ray, "And what do your magic hands have in store for me?"

"Oh, don't you worry fo' a single moment." Raleigh Ray cooed "I've got just what you..." All of a sudden, he froze in abject terror at what he saw.

The cute red had her hands on his can of Chi-Cola to steal a sip! He wanted to slap it away... to scream at her to STOP... to do anything before it was too late... But of course it was. By the time he realized what was happening, there wasn't any time to do anything.

At first the cute red head looked confused as she realized something wasn't right. Then the flavor of warm spit and spent tobacco, with just a hint of leftover mint to add to the revulsion hit her. "FUCKING GROSS!!" What are you, some kind of sick'o?!?"

Raleigh Ray opened his mouth to apologize... get a word in edgewise... say ANYTHING. But as he did the cute red head tossed the spit can at him. It hit just right to splash most of its contents all of his face and down his shirt. He stammered as he struggled to think of the right thing to say to undo this terrible turn of events, but only vowels came out to form gibberish. There was only one thing left to do, and that was leave to go clean up in the bathroom.

Defeated, and leaving all the women to Grimes to make his own ... lucky dog ... Raleigh Ray moped his way to the restroom to do what he could about the mess. Once in there he resisted the urge to cry, instead using the water and paper towels to do what he could to restore his dignity. But of course the chaw-spit was nasty to clean up and quickly stained his PT shirt. It was most likely ruined, or at the very least going to be a major challenge on laundry day. Things just couldn't get any worse for the man's decimated ego.

Suddenly, the lights in the bathroom went out.

The room was pitch black other than a thin slit of light coming from under the door. Just as he turned around to reach for the door or try to find the light-switch, a feminine fog-horn of a voice whispered in his ear, filling it with the smell of Red Velvet cupcake and french fries. "Hold on tight, cowboy, because I'm about to rock your world."

Steelcreek heads out of the rec hall, wishing he had another cupcake as he crosses the base. Those really weren't bad.

He makes his way back to the barracks to change and prep for a run. PT had been light that morning, and he feels antsy for some reason; stretching his legs will do him some good.

He puts on his PT uniform and heads out, taking one of the longer trails that crisscross the base. He doesn't keep track of time or distance; that's not the point, and that's not how he'd always run back home. You ran for fun, or to hunt, or, every now and again, to escape a hunt, not so someone with a stopwatch could tell you if you were faster than some arbitrary measurement. The Coalition has a lot of things figured out, and Steelcreek can't help but admire the efficiency of the army, but it still misses the point sometimes.

After an hour, perhaps longer, he lopes past the PX and sees the delivery truck pulling away. New stock today. Wonder if anything good came in? He stops in to buy a sports drink, and a set of goggles catches his eye in the stack of new merchandise awaiting stocking. With a grin, he heads to the counter with his cred-card. "No need to put those on the shelf; I'll take them off your hands right now."

R&R in the Army just means that Chai has other business to attend to.

Contacts need to be made. Suppliers need to be followed up with. Buyers of goods need to be found. Loans need to be collected.

If possible, Chai would be looking to solidify his falsified documents as being legit from CS command. The documents, credentials, and IDs would allow his suppliers to come to him and also provide Chai with a means of meeting and screening suppliers prior to them coming to the CS barracks and compounds.

SCROUNGER
Requirements: Novice, Smarts d6+, Streetwise d8+

Some people are just very skilled at knowing how to find what they need in an urban setting. They know where to look, who to talk to, and how to get what their group needs.

A Scrounger can make a Streetwise check, once per session, in any city or large town (−2 in smaller urban areas) to accomplish one of the following:
  • Gain 1d6+2 fully charged e-clips for the firearms she and her teammates use.
  • Acquire a complete reload for one Mega Damage weapon, such as a Boom Gun, Mini Rail Gun, or grenade launcher.
  • Procure food for 2d6 people for a week.
  • Fully restock one Trauma Kit, or find 1d4+1 first aid kits (as found in the NG-S2 Survival Pack).
  • Obtain a non-secured cred-card with 2d10 × 2,000 credits on it.
  • Find some rare (not necessarily valuable) and needed item (entertainment chips for computers, a spare part for a suit of armor or vehicle, snacks and treats, etc.).
