Dansk just shakes her head at Klinger. "Just keep your eyes open Klinger." She looks at Draper. "Sergeant is letting us write this up, since it was all in unit. When you do, don't mention any fault. Keep it vague. Klinger walked into a temporarily low-hanging obstruction due to a faulty clip. Obstruction moved. Klinger recovered and continued working."

Lucius hears Klinger's impact rather than sees it, but turns in time to see their medic dazed by the impact. He gives an outward cringe, though on the inside he isn't too big of a person to smile that one of the people who were so ready to call out his own mistake with the plow managed to screw up something as basic as walking.

He waits patiently while the Bear 1's medic gives Klinger a quick examination, then nods when Dansk explains what she wants in the report. "Not a problem Sergeant, easy fix for something that could happen to anyone."

"Yes, Sergeant. Will do." is Jasper's reply. As Hunter lets out a little bark and his tail wags, a genuine smile creeps across Jasper's face.

At the next warehouse, he works as instructed trying his best at doing the jobs he's asked until his name is called to gather his ticketed gear. With the plasma cutter stashed in the jeep next to the climbing gear, Jasper goes back to doing whatever he can to help out. He doesn't quite catch the accident, but he does hear it and all the commotion that follows. Seeing their medic now sitting on the jeep getting looked over, Jasper sighs in relief. -Damn, glad nothing major happened.- With that he remembers something his Grandfather had said to him before he shipped out for the post.
Jasper's Grandfather wrote:"Son, you will screw up, probably more than once. It happens. Just get back up and do everything you can not to repeat it."
Coming back to the present, Jasper goes back to work and gets everything locked down so they can move on to chow.

While making idle chit-chat, Raleigh Ray's main focus was on his work with his back to Klinger. While the assembly was going along just fine, he re-examined his work to make sure it was structurally sound.
Alan Klinger wrote:"I hope they got the beef wellington right this time, last time it was overcooked."
"Overcooked?!? Good doctor, back home that's how it's done... And then we slather the whole thing in honey smokey barbeque sauce, an' put it on an open flame for another half-hour!" he retorted with his back still to his new buddy.

*Clang!*

At the sound of the accident, Raleigh Ray lifted his head... He looked to one side. Nothing there... He looked to the other side. Nothing there either.

"Hu..." he casually said with a resigned shrug ans then went back to checking his work. "Did you hear somethin', Medic? ... Oh well... The trick in not letting it dry out is the sauce and rotating it every half-hour. You want that baby sloppy wet with the stuff. The real pros will use a fat syringe and inject marinade inside beforehand too, but that's gettin' a bit fancy fo' my skill level o' cookin'."

Pleased with the quality of his work, reasonably sure it wasn't going to fall down on him when things get bumpy out there, Raleigh Ray turned to talk some more to his buddy about the finer points of cooking in proper style. He was a bit startled by what he saw.

After listening to the chatter of the others, Raleigh Ray pieces together what happened when his back was turned. After the Sergeants and Corporals were done with him, Raleigh Ray couldn't help but to get his two cents in. "Damn, Klinger! Instead of Medic maybe we should call you Doctor Brail."

Logan is right next to Colton, matching him bolt for bolt, at least until they hear a loud clang. Whereas Colton didn't immediately notice that their medic was down, Logan did and rushed to Klinger'so side, helping the other medic where he could. When Colton finally sees what happened and made the comment about Dr. Braille, Logan mutters to Klinger "If you're Dr. Braille for this, does that mean he's Dr. Light, because I can see the light shining out of his ear from the other side of his head!"

When food is mentioned, Logan pipes up exclaiming "I can't wait to eat, I've worked up an appetite. A little food ought to help settle your stomach with the medicine they gave you, at least that's what I've always been told by the medics when I had hit my head in the mines."

Rotation Day
Date: June 1, 109 P.A.
Time: 1230 at start of post. 1500 by end of post
Temp: 76 degrees, F
Weather: Clear, a bit muggy
Ley Line info: Old Chicago is rife with ley lines, but Fort Resilience is one of the few areas with none within a mile of the base.
Location: Fort Resilience: The Ruins of Old Chicago - Equipment Storage Warehouse 15J

After the excitement with their medic, the crew finishes up in short order. They leave the bay behind, proper incident forms filed electronically, leaving no one at fault. A faulty clip is no one's fault. As it turns out they had several laying around as the damn things fail constantly. Maybe with an injury on file something will be done, but Draper's counterpart doubts it.

Dansk gets on the radio, and sends Maddocs and Hunter to the admin building, describes who to see, and what to do in detail. The Psychic and the Dogboy both comprehend the task well enough. Meanwhile, the APC continues on to a picnic area near some trees. They park beneath one of the larger ones. and get out to inspect the damage to the blades. "Pompadour, Wright, you two assess the damage. Give me a timetable for repairs and a probable part list. Draper, let's get the old girl cleaned out. I packed a few brooms in the back cabinets, and some rags and cleaning spray. Empty the cabinets and clean them all out, then reload it. I'll oversee these two. Park the Power Armor under the tree. "
Cooperative Rolls
Cooperative Rolls: Sometimes characters may want to cooperate and help a friend complete some kind of urgent task. If two or more characters want to perform a task together (and the GM decides it’s possible for them to do so), the lead character makes his roll and adds +1 for every success and raise his companions achieved on their own rolls. This has a normal maximum of +4 for all tasks except those of Strength, which have no maximum. Characters may not make cooperative rolls if they don’t actually have the skill in question. (You can’t make default rolls to aid with Boating, for example, if your character doesn’t actually have the Boating skill.)

You two decide who is helping and who is primary. Use Repair to assess the damage. Repair or Knowledge (Engineering) can assist.
When Hunter and Maddocs get back at 12:50, right as everyone is finishing up. They have a sealed plastic crate. Dansk opens it and reveals brown bag lunches with large subs (Italian and American subs) and bags of chips. A large thermos of (decent) coffee is available as well as another one with cold apple juice (from concentrate). The water they have in the APC's cooler. Styrofoam cups are handed out for people. A few dozen packs of sugar and creamer have been sent with the limited silverware. "Grab at it, you apes. Today is the last good food day you'll have until leave time, so cherish it. When you're eating rations, you'll want to remember this fresh stuff. The sandwiches are courtesy of Godmother. Breakfast was courtesy of the Lt. Colonel. Dinner tonight is on the LT. Make sure you thank him properly. We like to give you one day of decent grub to help get you ready for the next months of hell. Sometimes we'll run into a Rhino-Buffalo or Fury Beetle out there. Officially we bring them back for study and to check for diseases. Unofficially, after they've done that, they send to the kitchens and we have something aside from rations for the company that brings them back. Everyone but Pompadour may turn your nose up at Fury Beetle, but I promise you, after a dozen burnt Wellingtons, fresh barbecue is a wonderful thing, and then it doesn't matter what meat it is. Besides, it's actually pretty good just roasted. Got almost a crab taste. Soon as we're done eating we'll go get the last of our gear and our weapons, Draper, you and the blind medic will oversee the weapon systems installation once you have your own gear. You're both at the front of the line for your weapons loadout. Double check everything. If you can score us a missile reload, do it.".

Pulling the gear from the cabinets Lucius went about cleaning their interiors without complaint, he'd been used to menial labor from when he lived with his mother since it was just the two of them. Once you build up a decent work ethic it's hard to break it. For something just installed they were surprisingly dirty. Evidently they were returned 'broom clean' then allowed to gather all that dust and grime back before being reissued. Clearly a lesson Dansk learned well before this, and one he's taking to heart as he reloads the contents.

Grabbing an Italian sub Lucius eats it with a cup of black coffee. Idly listening to Dansk. "I'll try just about anything once. Actually had a dinosaur steak once, triceratops. Went on a safari kind of thing with my old man and grandfather. Dad loves it, cutting loose with a rail gun, but I'm pretty sure he was the only one not completely out of our element."

Tossing the sandwich wrapper into the brown bag as he finished he nodded to the request for extra missiles. "We need extra missiles, we'll get extra missiles."

Dismounting for lunch Solene enjoys a sandwich and black coffee. The bread and meat were welcome, most of their food in the northern mining communities was freeze dried or frozen. Once in a while someone managed to catch some local game and fresh meat and fish was always a cause for celebration. When talk turns to eating Rhinobuffalo or dinosaur Solene nods but looks unimpressed.

"One year we got snowed into for three months at the mining camp. Ran out of supplies and no game was running. There was this fat guy who started looking real good. Definitely the weirdest thing I ever ate." She keeps munching, telling her story with complete deadpan. Looking at anyone who stops eating she shoves her food into her mouth.

You want the guy somewhere in between, used to work out but starting to get soft. A relatively young guy who made middle management early, that kind of thing. Gets just the right amount of fat and meat to make it tender and delecious." He scans Bear 2 and shrugs, "Probably no good eating here, and we certainly don't want to eat Colton. Between the foods he's admitted to eating and all those chemicals seeping into his skull he's bound to be tainted."

Hunter for his part is perfectly happy hauling the crates holding food. He'll even probably try and carry a bit more of the load if for no other reason than as a 'thank you' to his partner for helping him out so much. So far things were going much better than the Dogboy had ever expected given his past experiences (for the most part anyway). It reminded him of some of the instructors he had in marksmanship training. They'd treated him really well too all things considered. The only time they generally didn't treat him well was when he did something poorly or incorrectly. He'd come to expect that though. Here seemed to be much the same case, except at least a few of his platoon mates treated him well in general.

When it came time to eat though, Hunter helped hand out drinks and food, leaving his own needs to last. It also turned out he wasn't a terribly picky eater. Nor perhaps the cleanest. He tended to just gulp things down in pretty common dog like fashion. Outside of that he seemed otherwise happy and eager to chip in where and when he could.

Taking a moment to let his freshly refilled coffee cool Lucius lets out a chuckle. "That sounds like the voice of experience Bouchard, probably best to heed the warning next time you find yourself alone with Tommy Atkinson." He pauses to sip his coffee, the liquid burning all the way down his throat. He coughs lightly, but truth is there isn't much throat left that's actually his. He doesn't think abou the implants much anymore, they weren't quite 'him' but he seldom noticed any more.

"You got it, big man!" Raleigh Ray says in cheerful reply, already holdinh an eye on a American sub, practically drooling down his chin. Even so, he focused enoygh on thr job to get things moving. After a few quick fumbles trying to get the APC to bow to his will, eventually the blade rose and permting Logan access. "Ha! Third time's the charm!"

As Logan made his assessment, Raleigh Ray climbed out of the cabin and put in his two credits with a second set of eyeballs. When ready, he walked along side Weight to report their findings.
Logan Wright wrote: "Ma'am! The left hydraulic actuator has a blown seal, the tie rod that connects to the actuator has been bent and is rubbing against front left wheel. Adding to Wright's report, Raleigh Ray offered his supplemental offerings "An' if we can't find those, I can fix it with three wire coat hangers, an old rubber toilet plunger, an' the mashed up guts o' the first d-bee we come across.... Oh! And half o' a banana."

With his report given, Raleigh Ray grabbed a sub and a bag of chips. He was pretty sure it a was an American, but wasn't sure.
Lucius Draper wrote:"What do you say Colton, what's the best way to serve up the fat guy if you're stuck in a cave?"
With a mouth half full of sandwich, Raleigh Ray replied all too matter-of-factly. "Ya start with the hands and feet. Chop 'em off and throw ' em in a pot o' water. While that's bolilin' ya slice off some o' that belly fat an' put it in a fryin' pan. Not too hot o' you'll burn it. Just enough to melt that fat down so you can make a good gravy." Raleigh Ray stopped, realizing he probably said too much already. "... o' that's how you do it wit' pigs... wit' hands an' ... feet..."

Feeling the gazes of some of the others on him, the Ozark boy felt compelled to add clarification. "What? ... My Uncle Boom got in a bad spot when he was a youngin', an' he told me a about it a few times... an' ... showed me a couple things one time."

Total help Colton overcome the -1 penalty on Driving.
From outside the EPC, Logan tries to instructs Colton (several times), trying to get Colton to position just right to allow him access to inspect the hydraulic actuators. As he is laying on the ground, he becomes aware that Colton was standing next to him and the blade was still over him, unsupported. "Colton, swing the crane around and hook the blade up to it, then take up the slack. I don't feel like becoming half the man I used to be."

When Colton adds his two cents, Logan breaks standing at attention, slowly turning his head towards him, Logan's face slowly screwing up more and more, the more that Colton talked. Suppressing the urge to slap Colton, Logan instead brings his right palm to the top of his face and then slowly drags it down Hixson face as he attempts to comprehend Colton's stupidity.

The awkwardness is only heightened, but thankfully shifted from him to Colton. When he adds his clarification, Logan busts out laughing, saying "Now that doesn't surprise me at all."

Listening to Colton recount the intricacies of cooking a human being Lucius' reaction shifts from amusement to fascination, then finally to a bit of horror as he realizes the mechanic is actually making the act of cannabalism appealing. "Private Colton, I think you just volunteered to be Bear 2's cook. If you've got me seriously contemplating eating another human being, you've got to be able to take field rations and make them edible."

Seeing the time, Alan grabs a random sandwich, and some juice and starts eating like he won't eat again. With the discussion of cannibalism, Alan is unfazed. How many times have I had lunch right after the full surgical sims? Alan will sit there and eat his food and when he's done will look at Draper. "We gotta hustle. I have supplies to pick up and we need to see if we can get that missile load."

Alan will hustle to the warehouse to get his medical supplies. Once at the Warehouse Alan will present his ticket to retrieve the MTU.

Dansk listens to Wright and then Colton with a nod. She looks at Colton. "Coat hangers and plunger I get. If you want a banana, just say so. But if you think you are using the blood and guts of some random dee-bee in my hydraulics mister, you have some more pondering to do." The last sentence is said with some force. But then she smiles. "But I like the way you think. Good for in the field." She glances at Logan. "You're absolutely correct Private Wright, but we can't always get the right parts, even on base. So always have a backup plan. The coat hangers are to use to fix the cracked casing, the plunger acts as a replacement seal, though you have to solder it in place with more of the coat hanger. Good work both of you. I already checked, and when we get done with our last stop there will be time to fix it."

Later at Draper's pronouncement about Colton, Dansk laughs. "Make sure you pick up some spices and sauces at the commissary Colton, Draper, do a field cooking kit requisition later. As long as we have it before any major field ops we're good. And you put tobacco spit or hair product anywhere near our food I will give you the land equivalent of a keel haul by dragging you under the APC and then dragging you another 50 meters, without body armor. Do I make myself clear?" Her look is deadly serious at the last.

Lucius nods when given the additional requisition order. "No problem Sergeant. Heavy duty, keel haul chain and field cooking kit." He pauses to think for a moment and sips his coffee. "So, the chain is obviously a must have, but if it comes down to extra missiles or the field cooking kit..?" Despite the deadpan delivery, Lucius is smirking in amusement.

Mini-Update

She glances back to him and answers in similar deadpan, though amusement is obvious in her eyes. "A good NCO learns that the answer for requisitions is always, all of the above, plus more. Anything less is a failure." She walks back over to the APC and ducks in. "Alright, load it up Bear 2, right after you police this mess. I'll be on comms with the Lt. Then we head out."

The remaining items are picked up (and extras depending on Draper's rolls).

At 1430 the group pulls into an empty stall in a warehouse with a large sturdy beam overtop. They lock the chain around it, lift the blade into position, and then wrap the chain around it, locking it in place, and let the pressure off. And so it is prepared for Colton and Wright to fix it.
  • OOC: Since Logan took the lead on diagnosis, Colton can take the lead on fixing it. Logan, you roll to assist (success and every raise mean +1 each for Colton). Colton, you're at -1 to fix the problem (plus the assist from Logan). It takes you 1d6x5 minutes to fix it.
As soon as they are done, and everything packed back up, the group heads to the armory.
OOC: few more posts, then on to the armory, then we get into the night and the adventure; move fast with your posts - it'll help your post count.

Joe enjoys his sandwich in relative quiet, before helping clean up and do other tasks. When the time comes to go and get his requisitioned scrubbers, Joe will hustle to the warehouse they are in and present his papers at the appointed time. This is going as smooth as can be expected. At least no one is on fire or blown up the APC already. When Joe see's the quartermaster. "Here you go sir, requisition for 20 Chemical Scrubbers." With chemical scrubbers in hand (if that's possible) Joe returns to the unit and stows the gear in an appropriate place.

He finishes the last with a chuckle, "I should probably get started then, pull as many tricks as I know." Crumpling up his wrappers Lucius stands grabbing his remaining trash and anything else close by as he rises. Slipping into his thoughts as he worked his way to make his requisition his smirk returns. For his own part, Hunter just keeps going about moving and storing what kit appears to still need to be put away and otherwise pitching in to help, but other than that mostly does his best to stay out of everyone's way. Something he's at least fairly good at it would seem. If nothing else the dogboy was both attentive, and eager to please.

"No ma'am! Not a drop o' dip, o' a single strand" he said in eager reply. Raleigh Ray then audibly mused to himself, thinking aloud "Hmmmm, I'm going to need to cobble together a meat-grinder if I'm going to do this right." He made a special note to himself to see what he could scounge up at the P.X. later on when he was getting his dip and hair product.

After the blade was chained and secured, Raleigh Ray lightly hit Wright in the shoulder in manly fashion. "Alright, Wrighty Tighty! We got this!" He then rolled up his sleeves and went to work with aplomb.

Getting into his work, Raleigh Ray became oblivious to the rest of the world to the point of getting into a near-autistic zen. As for the work itself, he wasn't sure if he was just nervous with this being his first official fix-job on the C.S. clock or what, but it didn't go as well as he would have liked. The blade got fixed well enough, but not as perfectly as he would have preferred, nor as quickly as he initially estimated. Raleigh Ray was grateful for the second set of hands to make it a bit better that it would have been otherwise.

Once done he looked the work over one last time, turned to Wright, and said, "She's no bell o' the ball, but she'll get the job done."

Jasper helps move the crates of food with Hunter, letting the Dog Boy continue to drive the sled since he had been doing such a good job so far. Getting back to the rest of the group, like Hunter, Jasper helps hand out the food to everyone before grabbing something for himself. As everyone else is bantering back and forth, Jasper kinda spaces out. He can't help but think back to how he got here and wonders if he will be able to make his family proud. He shakes his head and comes back to reality as everyone starts moving around and cleaning up after lunch. Quickly finishing his sub, Jasper grabs all their trash and puts it all back into the crate the food came in and moves it back to the sled, before stashing any leftover chips and non-perishables in a different compartment before hoping back into the passenger seat and moving to the next place on the list. When he can find a garbage can, Jasper empties the crate of trash and gets it back to where it needs to be.

Turning to Hunter, Jasper says; "Food was good, can't wait till dinner. I wonder what they we'll end up getting."

Lucius was no mechanic or engineer but he'd been around his mother and even his father enough to be pretty sure their medic may be more affected by that blow to the head than he's letting on. Thinking back, a scene with his father before he returned to active duty came to mind. They visited a mine his father had worked at, he was far too big to fit in any of the shafts now. Dozens of crass jokes he'd over heard five years ago flooded back. He settled for something not crass, but rather obscure. "Just put it on the NGR way."

Out of the compartment Logan pulled a binder that looks very much like the, albeit much thicker. Replacing the first binder where he found it, Logan carried the other binder out to the front of the vehicle, opened it up to the table of contents, then skipped to about a third of the way through it, then proceeded to walk Colton through the steps, and once Colton is done Logan runs it through an operational check-out to verify that the repairs were good and they didn't miss something. Logan puts the binder back and comes back outside and says to Colton "Hey Colton, that was a good job you did. I'm impressed."

"Ya know, soon after I got this ol' new implant, I tried to do that very thing." Raleigh Ray started with a disappointed expression on his face and in his tone. "Tried to stream a porno straight in to my brain. Dern thing kept saying 'Error Code 451', whatever that means. Oh well. Never know till ya try."

When the work was over, Raleigh Ray took the compliment in stride.

With the work done, Raleigh Ray started to ponder all the recipes he knew, given his new added function as cook. When he realized half of them involved either Opossum, Squirrel, or Armadillo, he knew his new job was going to be a bit of a challenge. It was in that moment the Medic caught his attention.

He strolled over and immediately noticed the problem. "Well, fo' starters, that's a hex-lug torque wrench ya got there, and what ya need is ratcheting allen wrench. ... That's all right, Brail. If I were tryin' to do your job, I wouldn't know a forceps from a speculum."

Raleigh Ray got right to work getting the heavy medical kit installed. It fought him a little bit, but he got the unit installed correctly on his first try. Fortunately Alan's amateur attempts to do the job himself didn't do any damage, making the job harder than it needed to be. Once done, Raleigh Ray turned to Alan with a satisfied look. After lunch Solene slowly re-dons her power armor. Normally, she would be happy to be working such a machine. Unfortunately, this scutt work makes it hard to focus. Move, load, sit, wait. Move, load, sit, wait. It is the army way. While repairs are underway she keeps an eye out for anything that might be coming their way, while she isn't expecting any threats a stray officer looking for someone "help" could slow down their day even more.

At least the armory is next, she thinks to herself. The Mauler wasn't the biggest and best but it could still carry a heavy duty C-40R and the shoulder mounted plasma cannons packed a wallop too. Some big vibro blades and a few missiles in launch tubes added the finishing touches. Blast it, burn it, blade it, or blow it up. The "no-neck" has something for every situation.

She tries to keep up with the chatter, but unless it's on the radio she doesn't hear much.

"We just about ready to move? I would hate to get busted for looking like we don't have enough to do."

Hunter's ears perk up a little at the idea of dinner. Sure he'd just eaten but he'd long ago learned to wolf down what food he could while he could. "Could go for some nice steak myself." he says wagging away. Wishful thinking there though I bet. "So.. uhh.. umm... iffn' we're working together and stuff. You uh..wanting me to take first watch while we're out there?" he questions. "Cause I don't mind."

Rotation Day
Date: June 1, 109 P.A.
Time: 1500 at start of post. 1730 by end of post
Temp: 76 degrees, F
Weather: Clear, a bit muggy
Ley Line info: Old Chicago is rife with ley lines, but Fort Resilience is one of the few areas with none within a mile of the base.
Location: Fort Resilience: The Ruins of Old Chicago - Warehouse 15 Armory

Most of the day has been spent around one single warehouse, and the late afternoon is no different. The armory is set in the middle of the rather large warehouse. It looks big enough to house four Death's Heads Transports and their maintenance space. According to the scuttlebutt you've heard, once upon a time that was true. Now those kinds of things are much further out near the runways proper. The armory then used to hold the missiles and munitions of the DHTs, their escorts, and crews. Now it seems to be the munitions for the combat engineering teams. You realize that when you see someone from another battalion drive away as you arrive. Solène gets top billing as she steps of the transport. "Aright, no neck, right this way. Let's go!" calls a Staff Sergeant. His tape says Laurent. His voice lacks a french accent. The first time she speaks, he looks at her cross-eyed. "Quebec, Arkansas, or Iron Heart?" His accent has him mispronounce Quebec as "kwabeck," and it reminds her slightly of Colton's accent, but not as dumb. When she answers, his face lightens some. "Oh, Iron Heart, good. My grandfather is from Iron Heart, but moved south of Arkansas on the Mississippi. Turns out there's some old french folk down there called cajuns. He fell in thick as thieves, but I took to speaking like folks from Arkansas like my mother. Anyway, let's get those weapon systems active and the rest of your gear." He works on it for a while and has her input a code and then test fire them on low power into a piece of armor plating long pockmarked with weapon's fire. He first calls out "Weapons test! Fire in ten seconds." At the end of ten seconds, he signals her to fire. She does so with all weapons. He frowns at how far one of her arm mounted weapons goes from target and fiddles with it again. They keep testing until the fire is perfect. He then has her park the Mauler and helps her through getting her body armor adjusted right. Once he is done, and all her gear is secured, it feels better fitting than when she'd gotten it earlier. He then has her test her sidearm, a newer pulse pistol, on all settings. He then looks at her readout and whistles. "Damn petit, they got you all tricked out on heavy weapons. Guess they knew what they wanted out of you - ass kicking." When he says petit, he says it right, but it has the same drawling accent as everything else. It somehow feels alien, and yet familiar. He walks over to a rack, grabs a C-29 Plasma Cannon and hands it to her. Like the pistol he hooks it up to a cabled version of the Canister E-Clip it uses. He has her test fire it, and though the plasma has a kick when fired, it does not kick hard, and has a certain satisfying thoom, then the hiss as the barrel vents from the release of hot plasma. Even on low power it is an impressive thing.

Meanwhile, each of them has an armory tech assigned to each of them who help them all get a final fit on their armor. Each is handed their CP-40s and sidearms, and allowed to test them. The female sergeant helping Hunter gives the dog a second quizzical look as she reads his entry. She then shrugs and grabs a CV-212. She then also reaches on a high shelf and grabs a second box, and then her tool kit from another shelf. She quickly and expertly removes the top handle of the weapon and replaces it with a slightly thicker one with a larger scope installed. She bolts it closed and tests the feel and sturdiness a few times before handing it to him. She speaks to him affectionately, though sternly. "Alright boy, you've got a real beauty here, so take care of her. We're going to call her Belle, because she is the Belle of the Ball. One of the humans will explain it to you. Anyway, you've got an integrated night vision scope with five times and ten times zoom. Good for medium and long distance shooting. There's a switch here that will supercharge it to anti-material level if you need it. I'm going to guess you're on recon or picket duty. Every day, I want you to do exactly I show you. We're going to practice it until I'm sure you've got it right." Hunter spends the next fifteen minutes with her as she runs him through how to thoroughly disassemble the weapon, clean every component, and put it back together. "Make sure you put your sidearm within reach if you're in the field cleaning her. You don't want to be unarmed if you get ambushed. But I want you to practice this whenever you have downtime and your weapon isn't in lockdown. At least once a day. Do this, and she will hit your target every time you aim her right. If you do this, and you miss, either your aim was bad, or the target is a juicer or something with preternatural senses like a dogboy. You treat her with respect, and she'll treat you right." She gives him a scruff between his ears, then thwaps his head. "Alright, get and stow your weapon trooper. They should have your name on a rack already." Hunter knew what his name and ID number looked like. He'd learned it long ago.

A private is helping Joe into his armor and then goes to grab his long arm. He lets out a low appreciative whistle when he sees what is listed. "Man, oh man. I have wanted to check out one of these since I saw them come in. Coalition Munitions version of that Triax gun, upgraded so you can use shotgun rounds like that one Bandito assault rifle." He drops his voice. "You know, I heard with a little finesse you can get those Big Bore rounds in here. Just a have to clean the barrel after every fifty rounds instead of a hundred. The back end of those rounds burns up in the barrel. It leaves as much residue as a Great Lakes storm surge." All the while he expertly disassembles the weapon, and shows Joe every step of it. He then shows him where to clean and how, and then puts it back together, chambers a shotgun slug round. He calls out "Weapons test, ballistic! In ten seconds." He has Joe go through several rounds with the weapon in a vice that holds its aim steady. He zeroes it in, and then lets Joe take a few more rounds with the explosive rounds as well, calling out "Weapons test, explosive! In ten seconds." At the end Joe fires one of the pump rounds and feels both the same level of kick and then hears the rocket kick in as the micro-grenade charge shoots forward and explodes rather satisfyingly. The private grins. "Damn if that isn't awesome. Alright Marshall, you're set to go. Take care of that baby!"

It's 1700 by the time the weapons are loaded, the APC is loaded, and there are several boxes in the back marked "Danger: Explosive." Colton finds himself sitting by them. Draper takes the seat behind Solène, next to Joe, behind where the Sergeant sits. Maddocs and Hunter are behind Marshall. On the other side the standing power armor takes up to chairs, with Colton and Wright sitting behind her, with Logan actually sitting next to the missiles. The Doc is driving. The sergeant looks over to him. "You've got this Medic. Get us home. Coordinates and waypoints on your screen."

As Klinger drives the group, quite without incident, the Sergeant calls back, using an intercom so everyone can hear. "Alright Bear Two. We're almost done for the day. One last task. "We've got a platoon armory that is in our garage area. All weapons, when not issued for a reason, will be kept there. Draper and I will have our sidearms in a locked case, otherwise, you report to our garage to be armed. If the base is in an emergency, emergency weapons will be issued. Use those until you can get to the armory and suit up. We will run drills to that effect, but not today. Today is about offloading our munitions, securing our weapons and armor, and getting the rest of our gear and heading to our rooms. We're all in the same hallway. LT and I have the end rooms, office is at the other end, and rec room is downstairs. Everyone will double up based on assignments. Hunter, you'll be bunking with the other dogboy on our side. Maddocs, you'll be bunking with Psi from Bear One on their side. Colton, Wright, you're roomies. Draper, Marshall, you're together. Klinger and Bouchard, you're bunking. We have our own bathroom, Bear one has theirs. The dogboys use ours. I'll tell you right now Hunter, if you can't get all the fur up out of the drain, I will have you down licking it clean, do you understand me pup?" The tone and word choice was the disciplinary one used by trainers on dogboys from a young age. It was one Hunter remembered well, and it shocked him to hear it from a non-trainer. Once he answers, she nods, though all they can see is the back of her head. "Alright then. Once we're done, have our rooms in order, and have had a shower - which by the way is an order - we will all meet in the rec room for evening chow at 1900. Chow and drinks will be provided there and we'll have a chance to mingle and meet the platoon. Lights out by 2300 and reveille is at 0500. We're in the armory, and getting suited up by 0700. Chow when you can, between 0500 and 0645." About that time, they pull up to a bay door with Bear (3-C/2-2) painted across it. It opens as Dansk types something into her console. They pull into the right slot. As they are pulling in, the second APC pulls up and pulls in. Bear One piles out right behind Bear Two.

Draper, Dansk, and the LT and Corporal from Bear One all are inside the armory and put everything in place, including placing people's names on certain lockers, nameplates on shelves, etc. A separate, large, lock box sits on a roll cart with locking wheels. It is empty. The LT looks at her. "One full reload for the APC and 16 for the Mauler. You?" His grin is wide and challenging. She looks apologetic as she says, "Oh we only got two full reloads and 40 for the Mauler." Her attitude goes from apologetic to gloating with a grin. "Booyah sir! You're buying." The LT laughs and claps his corporal on the shoulder. "What she means is we're buying Corporal Harris. Draper, good man. You also just volunteered to do company requisition forms for the next two months. You're obviously good at them. Don't worry, you'll get back up, but I want you turning them in and checking them. After that we'll switch you two off. Corporal Harris, you're on discipline duty when the sergeant is off it. She'll walk you both through it tomorrow after we get in from the field. Alright, let's get these thing done. Bonner, Bouchard, get your armored asses in here with the missiles so we can get it done." Piece by piece they load the extra missiles, their weapons, their armor, the extra grenades, and e-clips all into the vault. The E-clips are put on charge, but there is no way to charge all of them at once - only a third.

At 25 minutes after the hour, they are finally done. Dansk gathers the whole platoon into a group. "Gather up, Bear Two on my left, Bear One on my right." This incidentally puts them in front of their respective APCs. Alright, we've got the E-Clips on charge. LT and I will get them all changed and charged tonight. From here on out, you will have rotating duty checking charge of the E-Clips each night. If it needs charging, put it in the charge bin. One person from each squad will have responsibility keeping them charged. First week it's Bonner and Colton. And before you two ask, we'll be getting our Mud Spiders at the end of this week. Tomorrow we start demolitions certification. If you're already certified (1), you'll be on detached duty working on a project with Battalion's Combat Engineers. They need to demo a few buildings on the road to downtown that have gotten too infested with squatters. They should be cleaned out, but be on your guard. Alright you apes, it's time for showers and PX runs. If you don't need to hit the PX, I suggest you hit the shower. We'll walk up to the rooms together, then you're on your own till 1900. I'll show you the rec room on our way up. Oh yeah, over the next week, I suggest all of you visit the PX. We hit laundry by Company once a week. Make sure you're good on spare uniforms and underclothes for that time. So at least 8 days. And at least three sets of PT clothes and two pairs of PT shoes, so you can alternate and not get either one too funky. Schedule will be at the end of the hall on the door out. Maddocs, make sure you check ours every day. I'll also email it to all of you. The systems will read the email to you. If I hear your TV's, I will deactivate them from my room. Get you some headphones from the PX and sync them to the units over your bed and the main unit in the common room. One of the techier people can help you with that. Alright, let's move out Bear! Let me hear hooah!" As the company answers hooah, she turns to the LT, who leads them out after locking the armory door. As they line up, he calls out. "Your ID numbers will open the door, but understand Dansk and I get an alert every time you do. If we think it's irregular, we won't come, we'll send the MPs to hold you until we get down here. If you have a reason to be in here, ask one of us first."

Each block of rooms houses nine soldiers. As you enter the one for Bear Two, you look around. You see a narrow hallway, barely four feet wide, with two doors on the left side, four doors on the right side. The left side doors lead to the shower (left) and bathroom (right). These narrow closet like affairs are big on space efficiency. A shower, sink, mirror, and laundry hamper (for towels) dominate the left room, while a commode, sink, mirror, and storage cabinet (for cleaning supplies, as well as bathroom supplies) dominate the right room.

The last four of these leads to a small, but efficient room. Each bedroom is a relatively small eight foot by eight foot room, with an inwardly opening door. In all rooms a full sized bunk bed, a basic side-by-side chest of drawers, a closet with space to hang uniforms and stow boots, with a divider hanging in the middle meant to indicate separation, a fold down shelf mounted on the wall, next to the bed for each bunk, a TV mounted at the foot of each bed on a swing out arm, and a small mini-fridge and microwave, with an extra few shelves nearby, make up the sum total of furniture in the room. A ironing board is stowed in a space between the wall and the chest of drawers, and an iron is mounted in the closet.

A video disc player unit is mounted just beside the shelf. It has an alarm clock function, and can play any standard video, video game, or audio disc. There are ports to plug in a variety of controllers, as well as headphones and external speakers. Use of headphones is highly suggested. A mirror usually is mounted on the back of the door, for inspecting one's uniform. At the end is the Officer/NCO room. Other than being a bit wider, having one bed, and a desk in addition to a half a chest of drawers over in the corner, it is identical to the other rooms.

Past the bedrooms is the larger living area that represents the shared cramped living space for 36 soldiers. To the left, a kitchenette with a full sized fridge/freezer, a microwave, a sink, and counter dominate the room, with the counter extending along the back wall, where stools are pulled up to it, so that people can sit and eat, or work. The right end of the room holds a wrap around sofa, with a coffee table in the middle. On the wall is a large flat screen television, hooked up to a video disc player like the ones in every room. The couch is comfortable enough to sleep on, and when space is tight, sometimes people do. Aside from breakfast or late night and movie snacks, most meals are taken in the mess hall. Most recreation is taken elsewhere as well, with rotation schedules set up for one squad or another to have the rec area for the night. Each squad has its own cabinet in the kitchenette for supplies and stored communal food. Each soldier gets its own section of a shelf for personal items - though most keep theirs in a drawer in their chest of drawers, since the average soldier is hard pressed to fill the chest unless they have a large amount of clothes.

After all of the combat gear is stowed, Logan grabs his bags from the top of the EPC and hauls it into the room he shares with Colton. Looking over to the red neck, he inquires "Top or bottom bunk? Also left side or right side of the closet?" Whichever bunk Colton doesn't want is where Logan will toss his bag before opens it up and begins to arrange his side of closet. Once that was all arranged to military specs snd guidelines, he looked over to Colton and said "I'm going to make a PX run, wanna go with me?"

Alan walks into the room and starts to put his gear up in a good mood when he hears the door opens up and he realizes that his roommate is the only woman in the team. Alans good mood quickly turns to apprehension and nervousness. While Solene goes about putting her stuff up ALan will attempt to speak. "So, umm. How do you want to do this?" In her think accent she looks at Alan. "You touch me, you will need to heal yourself." Alan becomes nervous and concerned. "Uhh,
yea. I get that." Alan will return to putting his gear away defeated. Once he is squared away Alan will go and get some advice.

Going to the only other person he really knows, although not that well, he goes right next door. "Hey guys, hows it going?" The two guys appear to be hitting it right off, talking in a language that Alan has no idea what they are saying. "O, hey buddy. Hows it going? Got the room with Mrs. Bouchard didn't you? Man what I wouldn't give to be in your shoes." Colten said. Alan takes a seat in the only chair in the room. "Yea, that is what i'm here for. I need some advise. I don't know what to do." Colten and Wright starts laughing, Alan takes it in stride.

Wright says "Hahahahaha, O. I'm sorry, but you don't mean..." "Yes, that is exactly what I mean."

Colton puts in his two cents. "This shouldn't be too bad for you, you're a dr. You've seen lots of women before." "But not in my room, not without a nurse." "You need to figure this out then. Just don't be weird about it."

Alan leaves the room not sure what to do. He starts walking down the hallway and ends up at the Sargent's door. Not knowing what to do at this point, he knocks on the door. "Enter!" Alan opens the door and enters the room. "What do you want blind medic?" "Some help Sarge. I never had a woman alone in the room nor did I have a sister." "So what is the problem? Your an adult right?" "Yes Sarge, but.." "What the hell is wrong with you Klinger? Your the fucking Dr. You have seen more pussy then any of these little shits and you are standing here like 15 year old looking at the porno for the first time. Figure this shit out and don't bug me or anyone else about it again." "Yes sarge." Alan walks out of the room. Well, that went well. You are truly an idiot. What would you do if she was a man?

Alan walks back to the room and walks in. Solene looks at him when he walks into the room. "We need to figure out how this is going to work. I don't know what to do. Do you have any suggestions?" Solene stands there, thinking about the situated. "What about a schedule? We pretty much know our schedule. You grab an hour and i'll take an hour and the room is ours to do with as we wish. On our side of course." Alan thinks about this and is happy about it. "Sounds fair." Alan and Solene settle on the schedule and moves on.

Once Alan and Solene are settled in Alan has an idea. "Want to go to the BX? Get the stuff as suggested, and if no one else has, lets take the dog for a walk." After Solene answers, Alan will walk over to the dogboys room. "Hunter, squared away? Want to go for a walk to the BX?"

Skill Rolls --- Notice 6
Notice [dice]0[/dice]
Wild Die [dice]1[/dice]
After he was shown his way to his new home away from home for the next year or so, taking note of where the community rec room was, and appreciating that his new room was right across the hall from the bathroom, Raleigh Ray stood in the center of the dormitory. It was small, but it had potential.

Then he looked to his left and saw Wright standing there... his roommate for the foreseeable future... complete with the man's weird noises and borderline-autistic way of talking. 'Oh boy...' Raleigh Ray thought to himself.
Logan Wright wrote:Looking over to the red neck, he inquires "Top or bottom bunk?"
Raleigh Ray thought about it for a moment. Was Wright a drooler? With those disconcerting throat/nasal noises he sometimes made, odds were yes! Better safe than sorry.

"I'll take da top bunk. Save you de trouble o' havin' to climb up an' down every time you need to take a wizz in da middle o' de night."
Logan Wright wrote:"Also left side or right side of the closet?"
"Not sure. Let me take a look-see." Raleigh Ray went over to the closet and examined it. Right off the bat, he noticed the left-hand side went to the outside-wall. "If you don' mind, I'll take da left. With that exterior wall there I may be able to get into da wiring o' dis place. Maybe run some wire o' my own and get us a few extra amenities. Nothin' that will get us in TOO much trouble if we caught, for'sure. A little Romex here, a little multi-switchin' capacitor there, possibly a high-res virtual simulator computing system hidden in the wall itself..." Raleigh Ray paused to give Wright a soft elbow to the ribs and some lewd, leering, eyebrow action. "... you know what I'm talking about... boobie digital mapping and textures that look so real you can practically..."
Alan Klinger wrote:Going to the only other person he really knows, although not that well, he goes right next door. "Hey guys, hows it going?" The two guys appear to be hitting it right off, talking in a language that Alan has no idea what they are saying. {{Klinger mentions his roommate assignment}}

Colton said... {{OCC: Allow me}}
"... Oh, hey!" Raleigh Ray said in reply, cutting off his earlier sentence in the middle before Klinger could overhear or comprehend too much of his non-regulation machinations. As the medic settled in and told him and Wright of his roommate problem, Raleigh Ray stopped him right at the juicy part.

"Whoa, whoa whoa! You're tellin' us that you get to bunk in the same room with Frenchie McJuggs... every fuckin' night... and this is a problem for you?!?" Raleigh Ray looked over to Wright in exasperation in silence as if to say 'Do you believe this guy?', and then returned his gaze to Klinger.
Alan Klinger wrote:Alan takes a seat in the only chair in the room. "Yea, that is what i'm here for. I need some advise. I don't know what to do."

Colton puts in his two cents.... {{OOC: Again, allow me}}
After Klinger took a load off his feet, Raleigh Ray crouched down on his haunches in front of him. He regained his composure and started speaking calmly once more.

He held out his hand as if to accept something. "First off, this counts as a point on on your Man Card. Three more points this year and your Man Card gets suspended." With that established, he then moved on to the meat of the matter. "Secondly, you have two paths you can take..." He held up two fingers to help illustrate the point and presentation. "Play your cards right, and either one can lead you to Pound Town."

"Your first path is to work the Play'ah Game. Work the angles... send out the hard vibe... once in a while 'accidentally' let a nut roll out of your sexiest underwear so she can see how well you groom your man-business. Some women respond to that."

Raleigh Ray gave a short pause to let the audacity of his words sink in, and then continued. "With Bouchard, personally, I think the second path would work better. Work hard to maintain a clean, tidy appearance. Be the man she can talk to after a hard day's work. Establish yourself as the man she's not afraid to complain too and make her feel better. Be that open, sensitive guy, but at the same time always slip in those subtle reminders that you're a man. A man who's not afraid to be her champion. And when the time's right, and the situation looks like you can without getting your ass kicked too bad, be that champion. ... BOOM!! Welcome to Pound Town! ... Alternately, maybe you prefer not to take a few bruises in the name of love. No points on your Man Card for that. That's just playin' it smart. In that case, bide your time, because it's a long assignment up here in Old Chicago, and you're her first point o' masculine contact. And on that cold, lonely night... BOOM!! Welcome to Pound Town!"

Raleigh Ray put his hand on Klinger's shoulder in a sign of solidarity and support. "I already blew my shot wit' Bouchard. Once you get put on a woman's No List, it's damn near impossible to get off it. YOU, my friend, have no such handicap. Jus' stay true to the game plan, and use what you've already learned in life about women... You... You have been in the company o' women, right? ... Of course you have. You're a doctor!"
Alan Klinger wrote:"But not in my room, not without a nurse."
Raleigh Ray's hand slid off Klinger's shoulder in disappointment, but for the sake of perseverance, he continued. "Medic... buddy... friend o' friend o' mind. If that's your hold up, then just imagine her in a nurse's uniform... a sexy nurse's uniform." His eyebrows did the pervy leering bounce of love as a stupid smile graced his face. "Hell, if you're super smooth, you could sneak in a nickname for her, like Nurse Bouchard .... Ooooooooooooooooo-hoo-hoo-hoo! That would pave a few roads to... you know where."

After Klinger left the dormitory, Raleigh Ray started at the door and said, "That boy is our last chance." He then turned to Wright and dramatically grabbed him by the shoulders. "No! There is another!"

With fun and games aside, he got down to business and started putting his clothes and belongings away in the drawers and the left side of the closet. While not as perfectly orderly as Wright display of precision, it was good enough to military standards so he shouldn't get in trouble if they had a surprise inspection.
Logan Wright wrote:Once that was all arranged to military specs snd guidelines, he looked over to Colton and said "I'm going to make a PX run, wanna go with me?"
"Oh hell yeah!" Raleigh Ray said in reply. "I'm dying to get my dip on, and my hair is as limp as Medic's dick!"

"Oooo, Steaks. Yeah, I could do that." Jasper responds enthusiastically. -A nice juicy steak, cooked medium with a baked potato and shit tons of butter...- Jasper is brought back to the present as Hunter speaks up again.
Hunter wrote:"So.. uhh.. umm... iffn' we're working together and stuff. You uh..wanting me to take first watch while we're out there?" he questions. "Cause I don't mind."
Jasper goes quiet for a moment as he thinks about the Dog Boy's question before addressing it in a sincere voice. "I guess it will all depend on the mission and what would be best for the squad. Your senses are gonna be way more useful then any of ours, so if you need to get shuteye to be at the top of your game, then I'd gladly take first watch or whatever."

At the fitting station, Jasper gets his armor all set up and takes his turn with the weapons and places all but one shot on target in a decent grouping. Thankfully it was on a lowered setting, because one shot went who knows where. Packing everything back up and getting over to the garage, Jasper nods when he hears the bunking order. -Works for me. I'm surprised they didn't stick me with Hunter, but I'm not gonna complain....not really sure what it would be like living with a dog boy, but I guess will find out eventually.- Helping with the unloading and storing of the gear they had just picked up. Jasper grabs his gear and heads up to the room he will be sharing with Bear One's Psi. Having a limited time, Jasper just nods at the other man as he takes the unclaimed locker and bed. Quickly unpacking, he makes a mental list of what he will need from the PX and jumps into the shower before grabbing his credit chit and heading down there to get his items.

As Colton starts to talk about "extra amenities", Logan holds up his right hand to stop him and say "NO! Do you know how much shit we'd both be in if you did that?" Logan was about to say more on that topic when Klinger came into their room, he stopped short and hoped that Kinger didn't catch what was being talked about. He cringed as Colton called Solene "Frenchie McJuggs", as well as when he was telling Klinger how to get to pound town, as well as talking about the first path. As Colton started talking about the second path, Logan found himself amazed that this backwoods hick understood as much as he did about women, until he got to the end at which point it sounded more like the good (figuratively speaking) old Colton he knew.

As Klinger confessed that he had never been around a member of the fairer sex in a non-professional capacity, it made him think back to the first time he experienced the pleasure of being with one. He was 16 and deep in the mines of Iron Heart with a crew setting charges to start a new run when lunch was called, but he was so focused on his work double checking the charges that he never noticed, and the rest of the crew never bothered to make sure that had everyone. So when the foreman saw that he was missing, he sent his 17 daughter who had finished serving everyone else to go get Logan. When she found him, she was taken in by his sweat covered body, and the next several minutes the tunnel was even hotter.

Logan snapped out of his reverie when Colton grabbed his shoulders and shook him. After squaring away his side of the locker, he informs Colton "I'll be right back, I gotta hit the bathroom." He sees Klinger coming out of Dansk's office and indicates to him to follow him into the bathroom. After checking under the door of the stall to make sure they were the only ones in there, he quietly talks to Klinger as he uses the urinal. "First off, don't listen to a word that came out of Colton's mouth, except maybe for the first part of the second path. That was surprisingly sound advice, given the source. Of course his method of catching a hot date is applying Heet to his hand before, well I'm sure you get where I am going with that. But as far Brouchard is concerned, just treat her like a fucking human being and show her the same respect that you have shown everyone else, with the only difference that that you have to get dressed in different rooms." After buttoning his uniform pants back up, he washes his hands and tells Klinger "Hey, I'm going to the PX in a few, wanna tag along?"

Armor fitting and firearm testing went largely without issue. Between tricks taught by his father and direct experience in prep school, Lucius is no stranger to a set of Deadboy armor and how to wear it comfortably. His shooting is mediocre, he's not going to win any awards but he knows enough to put effective fire down.

When he learns that the Lt. and Sergeant had a bet going concerning their requisitions he beams inwardly, but outwardly offers only a gracious nod when accepting the compliment. He'd yet to meet a form or bureaucrat he couldn't finesse. "Happy to handle the forms going forward sir. All just boils down to reading the best way to ask."

Once at their barracks and the basic tasks are done he heads straight for shower, figuring most would be heading for the PX first allowing him a chance to avoid the frenzied rush as they approached chow time.

Finishing his shower he dresses quickly, sparing a quick nod to the quiet and seemingly eternally introspective PFC Marshal if he crosses paths in their room. Currently Lucius doesn't have the time or inclination to try and bring the man out of his shell, but there are secrets there he intends to find. He understands that he'll need to be extremely cautious when he starts on that path.

Not particularly wanting to deal with the PX, but knowing he'll need headphones before he can properly sack out he heads that way.

Alan considers Logan offer and advice. I was going to see if Hunter wanted to go, but that might be a good job for his handler. "Sure, speaking of which, mind if I ask Bouchard?"

If Logan is okay with this, ALan will head back to the room. "Hey Bouchard. Logan, myself, and probably casanova is heading out to the PX. Want to come along?"

Hunter 'Oh's' softly then wuffs. "Well.. um.. ok! Guess we just see what needs to be done then." Either way he was clearly happy about something given how his tail was wagging away along with the rest of his body language. Yep, Jasper was totally going to be his best buddy ever!
High Command wrote:The female sergeant helping Hunter gives the dog a second quizzical look as she reads his entry.
When given the quizzical look Hunter just pants and wags at the woman like a dog wanting a treat. He knew more or less what the billet was for. Well... well enough to understand just why he was getting that look. You didn't see too many dogboys who wound up sniper qualified after all. He turns extremely attentive however when she begins explaining to him the various features of the scope and weapon, though he makes a few quick adjustments of his own out of habit and known personal preferences before giving her a 'I'm sorry the cat did it' look. When he gets the scruff and that he wiggles a little and wags before snapping to and letting out a happy but subdued 'woof!' in response and then heads off to the armoury to properly stow his weapon. Once done he will look around to find Draper "Um.. sir. I'll need some range time with my new rifle to make sure it's properly sighted in." he explains. He goes from a rather meak 'I don't want to bother you but..' attitude into a much more confident one as he makes the request and explains why. It was something he knew was important and that Draper should understand. He also trusted that at some point he'd get the chance to get some range time in with it since that was always a thing the humans always considered important.

Hunter's ears dip down and the dogboy lets out a soft whine coupled with the whole 'puppy dog eyes' but it was quite clear he took it fairly seriously.
Alan Klinger wrote: Alan will walk over to the dogboys room. "Hunter, squared away? Want to go for a walk to the BX?"
Hunter had mostly gotten his kit squared away by this point as well as sniffed about the dog boy he'd be sharing the room with. The two weren't quite sure where they sat with each other just yet but on the whole seemed to be getting along well enough at least. At the question from Alan the dogboy perks up ears and all and lets out a happy 'woof!' and rather promptly falls in with Alan wagging away. OH man... these guys I got put with are great!

Shit, Klinger takes the weird prize from Colton. Go figure.

Having worked out the awkwardness with the medic for now Solene heads to the PX with the others. If for no other reason than being alone in the barracks is boring. Watching the others shop she doesn't see much happening. After a while she takes off on her own, “I'm a pretty simple girl. I'll see you back at the racks."

While the others shop, Solene heads to the pharmacy, womens lingerie section, and bookstore. She loads up her bags with feminine hygiene products, cosmetics, slinky underwear, racy posters, a box of wine and plastic glasses.

Hurrying back to the barracks before the others she spreads her new products all over the bathroom, hangs underwear from the shower curtain rod. Heading onto Klinger's side she puts some women's underwear in his foot locker and under his pillow. Done with all that she hangs up the revealing posters on every free wall.

Stripping down to her underclothes she pours a glass of cheap wine and waits for Klinger to come back.

"Welcome home honey."

Alan walks around with the other in the PX, slightly not impressed with the selection. He does however realizes, his options are limited. The trip is as much as getting to know everyone as actually shopping. Alan stays pretty quiet, his life has not been particularly dangerous, or even interesting. Alan proceeds to make the purchases that was recommended.
OOC Comments
Enough spare clothes for 10 days
5 sets PT clothes
2 pairs of PT shoes
2 bottles of Whiskey

a couple books.
As the trip progresses, Alan starts to enjoy himself. I'm going to have to get used to these guys. They are very different then anything i'm used to. Alan will even unconsciously, give Hunter a gentle rub. Alan quickly notices his actions and just as quickly removes his hand."Opps, sorry. Didn't mean to do that."

By the time the group gets back to the barracks. "Man, I am dog tired." realizes what he said. "umm, you know what I mean." Alan get to his room, "later guys" Alan opens the door.
"Welcome home honey."
Alans face turns redder then a reactor going nuclear, sweat beading on his face, he drops his bag of stuff. Alan will look down the hallway for support and sees there is none. She's almost naked. Alan shuffles his legs a little trying to hide the erection he's getting. What do I do? I think I should enter the room. Alan will walk into the room and close the door behind him. His eyes not taken off of Bouchard. "Umm, high." THINK OF SOMETHING ELSE IDIOT!! remembering the alcohol in the bags, Alan will grab the Whiskey and a glass. Pouring himself a good stiff drink and downing it right then and there. "Ahh. That's better." Alan takes a look around. "I'm not sure about the decor. I'm not against it mind you." Alan will walk over to his bed to sit down. When he sits down, the panties under the pillow shifts, thus exposing themselves. Alan will pick it up and examine it. Alan by this time is feeling pretty good after not only the strong drink, but one or two more by this point. "While not my personal taste to wear, I didn't think it of you either. If your saying your willing to share, That's a whole different discussion. One I think I would propose at a later time. At least until after we settle in some more." Alan will start to put his stuff away and is willing to engage in a discussion with Bouchard if she is interested. Once he find the underwear in his foot locker, he'll hold it up and look at her quizzically. The toss to Bouchard is off a little, but the intent is not. The toss was done playfully. Once the gear is stowed, Alan will get ready for bed and turn in for the night. That was either the smoothest way to handle that or that was the biggest moronic way ever in the way of dealing with women.

If Hunter minded he sure had an odd way of showing it. The dog boy responded much like a normal dog would, leaning into the attention and panting a little then looking all confused at Alan's words. He even lets out a soft whine. Did he do something wrong!? Deciding not to press the situation Hunter just turns his attention back to the items in the PX, trying to recall the list of items it was suggested to get. What he's really hunting for though, most of all, is a really good grooming kit. The last thing he wanted was to get shit on for clogging up the bathroom drain! A good grooming kit, he knew at least, would go a long way in keeping shedding under control... sort of.

After that he focuses on the PT gear first and then other spare items after that. He skipped over wireless headphones if only because that was the sort of luxury he'd never been allowed before, and simply assumed that was a 'humans only' thing.

OH NO!! SNAKE EYES!!!
As Raleigh Ray entered the PX with Wright, Klinger, Bouchard, and Hunter, he grabbed a plastic shopping basket and immediately made a hard left to the tobacco section. He accelerated into a speedy power-walk stride as though he needed to make an urgent visit to the bathroom. The Ozark-boy didn't need to read the signage or pictograms to find his way; the heavenly aroma of refined tobaccos of all sorts in the air led the way. Once there he was greeted with all sorts of tobacco products; an entire isle dedicated to the god of nicotine.

"Oh sweet Jesus! I'm home."

Unable to find his favorite brand from the Ozarks, he went with the closest thing he could find to his label in form; Old Joe's Snus dip pouches. He proceeded to fill his basket with two pocket-sized tins of each flavor: Mint, Frosty, Wintergreen, Natural, Robust, Mellow, Fruity Tango, and Cinnamon! With 15 dip-pouches per tin, Raleigh Ray felt he would be in good supply for the time being.

With his number one priority out of the way, he then went to his next; HAIR PRODUCT!! This time he had to hunt the isles. Fortunately he was was literate, so it wasn't too hard to spot the right section of the PX. While his tobacco options were plentiful, his hair product options were more-so limited. Figures for a place where most people have military haircuts. Just the same, in the lady's section he found some proper shampoo and some good styling gel. Raleigh Ray loaded his basket up with two shampoos and four gels.

Having had his priority items crossed off his list, Raleigh Ray relaxed and went shopping for the rest of his items (with estimated or actual prices}:
  • 14 tins of Old Joe's Snus (as noted above) [4 cr per tin, or 18 for a pack of 5 (based on real online pricing)]
  • 4 inexpensive tall plastic cups to be used as spittoons, with caps in case of spillage [12 cr]
  • 2 bottles of shampoo, high quality (as noted above) [20 cr]
  • 4 tubes of styling gel, high quality (as noted above) [20 cr]
  • 1 Men's Grooming Kit [20 cr]
  • 3 sets of PT Clothes [30 x 3 cr]
  • 2 pair of PT Shoes [50 x2 cr]
  • 5 Duty Uniforms [145 x3 cr]
  • 1 set of cooking utensils, quality (serviceable for preparing food out in the field or wherever) [100 cr]
  • 1 Wireless Headphones, medium quality [100 cr]
  • 1 Vid Mat P2020 [150 cr]
  • 1 TEX Wrist-Com 400, rugged alloy, black [350 cr]
  • 1 Simple toolkit, medium quality [30 cr]
  • 4 rolls of electrical tape [3x4 cr]
  • 4 rolls of duct tape [3x4 cr]
  • 1 pocket-size signal mirror [5 cr]

  • Estimated total price: 1,567 cr, leaving Raleigh Ray 159 cr on the card
After he was on his way to the checkout line, reasonably sure he was about to deplete the credits on his card, something caught his eye. It was Medic and the dog Hunter sharing a brief exchange.

If Hunter minded he sure had an odd way of showing it. The dog boy responded much like a normal dog would, leaning into the attention and panting a little then looking all confused at Alan's words. He even lets out a soft whine.
As Medic left, Raleigh Ray approached Hunter and gave the top of his head a scratch, right between the ears. "Quick rub for luck... Good boy." He always liked dogs, though he was much more accustomed to the four-legged variety.

After he rang up his bill and got all his goods bagged up, Raleigh Ray walked back with the group to the dormitory. All except for Bouchard... 'Now where did Frenchy run off to?' he wondered to himself. 'M'eh, she's a big girl. She can take care of herself.' With Klinger (and Wright and Hunter?), he went up the stairs. With his and Wright's room at the end of the hall, he stayed with the group all the way to Klinger's room, where...
Alan Klinger wrote:By the time the group gets back to the barracks. "Man, I am dog tired." realizes what he said. "umm, you know what I mean." Alan get to his room, "later guys" Alan opens the door.
"Welcome home honey."
Raleigh Ray stopped dead in his tracks, took one step back, and looked over Klinger's shoulder. "Well there's an image for the ol' Spank Bank."
Alan Klinger wrote:Alans face turns redder then a reactor going nuclear, sweat beading on his face, he drops his bag of stuff. Alan will look down the hallway for support ...
... and there stood Raleigh Ray, beaming ear to ear. Though he didn't say it out loud, he mouthed the words "Boom! Welcome to Pound Town, Dr. Love!"
Alan Klinger wrote:Alan will walk into the room and close the door behind him.
"BOOM!!" Raleigh Ray shouted aloud as he continued on his way to his dorm room with a happy pep to his step. Full of hope for his newfound friend, he went into his room, proceeded to put his new belongings away. There after he connected the wireless headphones to the bluetooth (or whatever super-tech equiv. they have) to listen to some music while he read read his magazine, giving the love-birds a little privacy on the other side of the wall.

Hunter didn't even have time to get a confused look about the 'rub for luck' part but it certainly perked him right up. The dog boy wagging and letting out a rather satisfied sounding low 'rrrf'. This squad was, to Hunter's limited experience, the best thing to ever happen to him. So far everyone actually part of the unit was treating him really well, which was quite the change for him by and large. Certainly with such attentions so far, Hunter would go through hell itself for any member of his squad, and not just because the CS had trained him to. He genuinely liked every member of the team so far.

Going into the BX, Logan is considering everything that he needs to pick up and immediately heads toward the uniforms area. Upon seeing the prices, he internally cringes. He decides to pick three up today, then three more on his next pay check. He shows his ID when asked for it. He then makes his way over to appliances and picks up a iron and some starch, then grabs four sets of PT uniforms, two pairs of sneakers, a few towels, a shoe shine kit, hair dryer, a pair of nylon stockings, toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, mouth wash, a bar of soap, a bottle of conditioner, green apple water flavor enhancing powders (Kool-Aid), pack of ink pens, a grease pen, a pocket knife and licorice.
Shopping List 805 cr.
  • Duty Uniforms x3 (145 x 3 = 435 cr.)
  • PT uniforms x4 (30 x 4 = 120 cr.)
  • two pairs of sneakers x2 (50 x 2 = 100 cr.)
  • towels x9 (3 x 9 = 27 cr.)
  • shoe shine kit with shoe rack 15 cr.
  • hair dryer 30 cr.
  • a pair of nylon stockings 3 cr.
  • toothbrush 2 cr.
  • toothpaste 3 cr.
  • floss 2 cr.
  • mouth wash 5 cr.
  • a bar of soap 2 cr.
  • a bottle of conditioner (same one as Colton) 20 cr
  • green apple water flavor enhancing powders (Kool-Aid) 3 cr. for a 12 pk.
  • pack of ink pens 3 cr.
  • grease pen 17 cr.
  • pocket knife 15 cr.
  • licorice 3 cr.
He checks out after Colton, and when they get back to the barracks, he starts putting his uniforms away first, then if there is time he'll start working on everything else, otherwise he'll wait until after evening meal.

The group has dinner with their entire platoon that night, which consists of hamburgers made from beef and venison, sausages (made from the same), green beans made with ham, buns for each meat, fries, and choice of Chi-Cola, Super Cherry Chi-Cola, Super Black Cherry Chi-Cola, Orange Spike, and some beer most of you have never heard of. Joe and Lucius will recognize it as a microbrewery from one of the nicer bars in Chi-Town's restaurant district.

Mostly they all talk and bullshit, laugh about the inane crap, and generally get down to the business of winding down from a stressful day.

Every day after that involves one MRE based or bulk food based meal or another. By the time a month is over, the group agrees they could all go for a burger or some fresh eggs and real bacon, or honest to god orange juice. But no one goes hungry, and they put everything into their first month at Fort Resilience.

Dina goes through the lines. Getting measured by the fancy scanning lasers. She is provided with a properly sized uniform much to her surprise. She heads into the changing room and removes her normal clothes. Finally donning her uniform, she is proud to be standing here this day.

As the national anthem is sung. She also sings it with pride. As she sees "Godmother" giving the briefing, she feels good. CSM Grimm is her heroine and idol. She listens to what is said and takes it to heart.

Dragonwright Cultist: Talk about forsaken gods. heh.

After the main briefing, she goes through the line for breakfast with her squad. She hits it off with Harris, also being from Iowa.

Chai finds himself at the mouth of a fountain disgorging soldiers. He laughs to himself as soldiers seem to spill forth and then get displaced only to find some sort of organization and order when sergeants begin barking orders. Sure he gets jostled and bumped but the passing soldiers have much for him and soon his street clothes have more than he can carry and so he proceeds on towards the formations.

Falling in for muster, Chai again assesses his surroundings and the soldiers. Noting details. Quirks. Looks. Details. Details. And more details. Information, the real currency of the world. He is promptly dismissed and sent to supply for fitting and his personal loadout.

En route to supply, Chai manages to swap out minor food items for more quality better than PX food stuffs. Upgrading cigarettes and souvernirs, his collection of scrounged items now has some bartering quality.

Noticing the time is 1030 when he gets in line, he begins verbally negotiating his way through the supply fitting lines. Here he offers a treat to one soldier and to another a couple of quality cigarettes, because the soldier has a nicotine fit that needs fixing. He switches lines while assessing the supply staff.

Cassandra looked around at the chaos of the mustering station. The press of so many minds around her was giving her a bit of a headache. She popped a couple ibuprofen before a soldier came down the line and confiscated it from her.

Cass had never much liked crowds. She had grown up in a backwoods fishing village in Ironheart. She had been friendly with the locals. It was small enough that everyone knew everyone, and half the village had served in the Navy with each other at some point. It wasn’t really a village so much as a large extended family.

And then came the headaches. The visions. The voices. Everyone told her father how sorry they were for him that his daughter had been so afflicted. Father wanted her sent away to a facility for girls like her. Mother protested. So they compromised, and she was sent to her uncle in Chi-Town.

Chi-Town was horrible. People stacked on top of people. The headaches got worse. Crushing, even. But her aunt and uncle were kind. And her older cousins Jude and Nici were amazing. Her uncle was a ranking officer in Army Logistics. He pulled some strings and found a doctor that knew about her condition and could help with the headaches, visions, and voices, and taught her how to build up her mental defenses. Still, Cass didn’t go out much. Out in the crowded streets of the fortress city was a bit overwhelming.

And then she had turned eighteen. A month after her birthday, she had signed up for Psi-Battalion. Her uncle encouraged her. She would make her father proud. She had done well. They had taught her to use her mind to augment her body, to borrow needed knowledge and skill from those around her, how to fight.

And now she was here. Basic and specialty courses were done, and it was time to report to her squad.

Cass stood still as she was scanned for contraband. She hadn’t anything on her except the ibuprofen. She took the uniform she was given and moved to the privacy screens. She tapped her power a bit when she was loaded down with a full duffel, allowing her to carry it with ease until she got to the large gathering room. Her dog tags scanned, she headed over toward the Chicago Company, Second Rifle Platoon. Cassandra smiled shyly, made the required pleasantries, and then faded a bit into the background. She followed her platoon into the auditorium.

Cassandra sang the national anthem with fervor. It was a source of pride for her father. She felt the aura of authority as an older woman took the podium. Cass sat quietly to Grimm’s speech, and then the day was a whirlwind of activity, requisitioning gear from the quartermaster and a stop by the PX before settling into quarters for the evening.
