Rotation Day: June 1, 109 P.A.

Post by High Command »

Rotation Day
Date: June 1, 109 P.A.
Time: 0700; It is light.
Temp: 67 degrees, F but warming up.
Weather: It rained earlier, but aside from some wet pavement, you can't tell it now.
Ley Line info: Old Chicago is rife with ley lines, but Fort Resilience is one of the few areas with none within a mile of the base.
Location: Fort Resilience: The Ruins of Old Chicago - in a massive hanger attached to the barracks and off the run way.
GM Notes: All Bennies Reset

All runways are go as Death's Head transports touch down and take off in rapid succession. The constant whine of their giant hover jets resound clear across the base. The landing areas are an exercise in organized chaos as fresh troops disembark and are moved to their muster areas, while at the same time those on the way out embark.

It's rotation day. When all the new recruits and transfers came into the brigade and all those finishing tours bug out. It is also a day that made NCO's cranky. Cranky because they have to break in a whole new crop of FNGs and cranky they were still hung over from the massive send off party the night before.

Whether already on base or flying in, all soldiers eventually end up in their muster area. After navigating a maze of corridors old and new alike find themselves in the muster area for Chicago Company, 2nd Battalion.

Before they can enter the lines they are scanned for contraband. Food, tobacco products, alcohol, electronics, etc are taken from them. All contraband is stuffed into a plastic bag, labeled with their name and stuffed into a bin which is hauled away. Gear is laid out with the kind of anal percision only possible in the Army Supply system. At the head of the lines, each soldier is measured by a grid of lasers which produce specifications unintelligible to anyone not in supply. As they move through the lines, they receive correctly sized uniforms, great coats, head gear, goggles, combat boots, t-shirts, under garments, and battle armor all stand ready for the troops of the Fighting Joes. Each soldier shuffles through the line, receiving their non-weapon basic billet gear and stuffing it into a standard issue duffel bag. MOS specific gear and all weapons, they are told, will be issued to the unit and distributed by the unit CO. There are dozens of cloth privacy partitions which people are shoved into and told to change into their uniforms, boots, and great coats. All other gear is to be stuffed in either the backpack or duffle bag. They are told they have three minutes to effect this change and stow their civilian gear in one of the two bags. At the end of the line they are ushered into a large auditorium. The front had a small, raised platform, with a podium. The back wall is covered with a painted CS flag and Army emblem.

At the door a couple of Corporals scan each person's dog tags then point them to their squads or groups. It was almost time for the Company C.O. to make his welcoming address. For now, however, informal meeting and mingling was the name of the game. There are no officers present, only enlisted. A collection of senior NCOs are near the front standing near signs with Armitage, Belmont, Chicago, and Dearborn Company near them. Deployment orders include which Company to report to, so each soldier makes their way to Chicago Company's sign and the fierce woman standing near it with Command Sergeant Major for rank. There are only a handful of CSMs in the entire army.
Image

Well away from the infantry companies, Lucius forms up with his MP company. To his surprise, his Senior NCO is none other than First Sergeant Mason Hawken. Both are surprised at first, and then exchange a long handshake, which is a stand-in for much more. "Well hell, ain't this a bitch. Let's see if we can't get this sorted." He glances over to a Sergeant. "Riggs, keep an eye on this lot. I'll be back. Draper, with me Corporal."

As people walk up, a Sergeant with a scanner scans each dog tag and points the soldier to their company and their platoon. When Solene, Joe, Alan, Jasper, Logan, Raleigh Ray and Hunter are scanned, they are instead sent to the Command Sergeant Major. "I'm Command Sergeant Major Grimm. You can call me Godmother. So you're my new combat engineers. Change of plans troopers. Command only sees fit to send me a handful of the combat engineers I need embedded, so we're doing some creative shuffling of assets. You'll be assigned to Sergeant Liana Dansk's team. You're now second squad of the Engineering Platoon of Chicago Company, call sign Bear. Sergeant Dansk will get you all up to speed on your new jobs. Which of you is the medic... Ah Klinger," She pauses and then snorts at some unsaid joke, and shakes her head as if dismissing it and any questioning looks. "All of you go back through requisitions. Klinger, you're to request a heavy trauma kit instead of the standard medical kit." She's about to say something when a mountain of a combat cyborg comes walking up with a corporal in tow. The CSM's face lights up as she sees an old comrade. "Mason, How's that big metal ass of yours."
A deep rumble comes from the metal man. "Just fine Grimm. Got a present for you. This is Lucius." He says this like it means something.
"Oh, I got you, yes." She glances at him and extends a hand to him. "How are you Corporal? Good to meet you. Heard quite a few stories. I hope to hear more, from you this time." She glances back at Mason. "What's the problem?"
"He's assigned to lead one of my MP squads." A look of understanding passes over Grimm's face. "I figure you've got the clout to commandeer him."
The Command Sergeant Major grins. The raw soldiers who are waiting on her are not certain they particularly care for the look. Lucius, upon reflection, isn't either. "I was just thinking I needed a team leader. And now you give me one."
She glances back at th squad. "Bear 2, meet your team leader, Corporal Lucius Draper. He'll be taking you all through the resupply process. I'll get your weapons squared away. Just make sure to get all the electronics in the list. Getting them after today is a pain in the ass." She hands Klinger and Draper each a written authorization. "In case you get any guff, give them that and my name. Either CSM Grimm or Godmother will do. Now hurry, I have a safety brief to give and I want you all there with your unit. You've got ten minutes. Move!"
OOC Comments
GM Note: First task, you've been ordered to go through requisitions again. This means a Requisitions Roll! On the plus side you each have a +1, except for Alan who has a +2. Get a success and get your new gear. Get a Raise and you'll get a goodie. Two raises and you get an upgrade and a goodie. Fail and you are stuck with what you've got. Crit Fail and you are stripped of all but your uniform, boots, and coat and told to go to muster and be sorted out later.

Logan takes his uniform that he's been given and rushes through changing in the provided changing booth. He only hesitates briefly when he removes his sunglasses, he reflexively runs his fingers over the mechanical eyes and thinks I hope I can get in armor soon. I still have to get used to the idea of these, and that will be easier when I have a helmet covering my face and prevents me from touching these. He puts all of his civilian gear in a backpack and finishes putting on his uniform quickly, but also makes sure to get everything right. If there is a mirror in there, then Logan will give himself a once over in it to make sure there are no glaring mistakes.

Logan makes his way over to Chicago Company and meets CSM Grimm and watches her deal with the cyborg and introduce the rest of the squad to their new team leader. When he sees her grin, it made him think she particularly liked making the lives of those who got in her way difficult and made a mental note to not to ever get on her bad side. When he finds out that getting his needed gear after today was going to be a pain, he made sure to double time back to requisitions so that he didn't miss out for being to slow.

"Private Logan Wright, I'm a Combat Engineer in Chicago Company, and I need to requisition my kit." he explains when he gets to a supply clerk.

Logan sets his kit at his feet and snap to attention, giving a sharp salute to her and saying "Private Wright reporting in as ordered, ma'am!"

Upon receiving the orders from the Sergeant Major, Alan moves with propose to requisitions. With a visible tone of nervousness, Alan requisitions the heavy Trauma kit. "Excuse me, I need a heavy trauma kit. Not a normal trauma kit."

The supply person obviously gives Alan some trouble. "Well then, let me have the trauma kit back and we'll see what we can do."

Alan, being nervous of failing even this basic assignment puts forth some extra effort into his requisition. "All I need is the Heavy Trauma kit. I was sent by Command Sergeant Major Grimm herself to get this." Alan will present the documentation for requisition. With the name dropping and the documentation being presented, that made a very apparent change in attitude.

The Heavy Trauma kit is swapped out on the spot, along with a little something extra. "I wasn't aware it was for the CSM. Here is your kit."

"Thank you."Alan takes the gear and hustles back towards the CSM with his Heavy Kit and goodie, once there he will salute the CSM. "Private Alan Klinger reporting as ordered Ma'am."

Notice: [dice]0[/dice]
Wild die: [dice]1[/dice]

Hunter finds himself moderately bewildered by all the organized chaos. The dogboy was much more used to the sterile and highly regulated confines of the Lone Star facility and the various training he'd gone through along with all the other Dogboys being put into service. This was really his first time assigned to a real unit. Still, doing what he always does gets him through just fine. Which was of course, simply doing what he was told to do (At least by CS Military anyway). Unlike many other dogboys Hunter seemed unusually lean and lanky, but also quite young. Anyone with any experience would likely quickly tell he was fresh as can be out of the CS breeding machine that turned out mutants like him on a regular basis. When it's mentioned he's part of an engineering platoon, he finds himself somewhat confused. He wasn't trained for that sort of thing! Did... did they send me to the wrong unit? he just barely suppresses the soft whine that wanted to escape.

Nothing to it now though. He was where he was and this is where the powers that be decided he should be. Or, if someone screwed up he was good and stuck now. He certainly didn't have the balls to even so much as question anyone as to if he might have been assigned to the wrong place. He simply didn't have that kind of backbone.

And... then the CSM tells him to question the suppliers that be for more kit. That has his ears drooping. No one ever liked giving dogboys like him anything except maybe a chewing out in his experience. Well.. except maybe those two instructors, but everyone else just beat him or yelled at him, or both. Usually both. Even when he'd been doing the right thing it had almost never been 'right'. Always some flaw fussed about or nitpicked at. Marksmanship had been the only time he'd ever really gotten genuine compliments as far as he could recall. Even those were rare.

Thus, with the usual dogboy gruffness and some timidity does he present himself as ordered to requisitions with the list he'd been given. "Uh.. CSM Grim told me to get this stuff." he says, with all the tact of a school child caught in an obvious lie. Except this wasn't a lie. He was simply that timid. Seeing it wasn't going to go over so well like that he quickly races to think of what he could possibly do. And so he does the one thing he can do in a situation like this. Pulls out 'The puppy dog eyes' look and even adds in a soft whine. "Please? I don't want to get yelled at for not having the right kit..."

Keeping her head down as they report in Solène's mouth goes slightly agape as she finds herself talking to CSM Grimm in person. The change to combat engineering is actually a welcome one, the coal miner's daughter had been operating mining rigs since she was twelve. Mauler's and other power armor were basically the same things, only armed to teeth to boot. Seeing her newfound personal hero in person brings out Solène's impulsive side and she immediately tries to say something, anything, to the CSM. Well she said call her Godmother

"Godmother? Esteban at the departure terminal sends his regards. Also, I'm happy to help out in engineering, any tips for not dying?"

Solène braces herself mentally for a big blast of shit, basic instructors would respond to that kind a familiarity with some sort of I'm not your friend, although I may be your daddy. Or some other blow hard nonsense.

Stepping up to the supply clerk Solène scrunches up her face and looks at the various pictures and icons. Any words held little meaning to her. Just keep it simple

"Our CSM says we need a re-issue. Been re-tasked to engineering. I'll be needing a combat engineer's billet."

Lucius waits patiently while Grimm and Hawken exchange what amounted to an entire unspoken conversation, it was easy enough for him to read the hulking cyborg and the situation. These two were clearing up a pretty big gaffe on somebody's part, he hoped they at least got a drink out of them later. He made a quick review of the electronics in the list, most of which could have been anything, but he could read and match up names and numbers. It'd only be a problem if they try and pass something off as 'just as good'.

Looking up, he noticed a few of his team were already trotting back to the Requisition Officer...that could go poorly, but he's not going to embarrass them by running them down or shouting out orders. Instead he starts moving with the same brisk pace, the walking as fast as possible without looking like a jackass. With his squad spread out through the various lines it was impossible to pull them all back into place now. Guess it was just time for them to sink or swim of their own accord, he'd throw anyone who ended up floundering a line after the fact.

The lines move quicker than they would in any civilian setting, but it still seemed tortuously slow waiting through it a second time. When he's finally sorted to his destination he greats the weary soldier with a warm smile. "Sergeant, looks like thay had a change of plans. Bear 2's been scooped up from doing god knows what to doing god knows something else. All I know is Godmother has us and we need to be rekit, engineering detail now. Here's the supply list." He slides the list and authorization over, "Hopefully not too much of a hassle, but 10 minutes ago I wasn't even on Bear 2 so here's hoping it's a simple pull."

The hustle and bustle of the hanger is amazing and Jasper takes a deep breath in as he gets into one of the lines to get his gear. He is all smiles as he walks down the line and gets handed his gear at each station, not even noticing the occasional looks and gruff way they sometimes handed him his stuff. -Wow, this is amazing. I can't believe that I'm finally here. This is gonna be great!- Stepping into a changing area, Jasper quickly dons his new duds and stuffs his street clothes into a dufflebag before moving down the line some more. Following directions Jasper finds himself in front of a compact bundle of badassery. -Hmm, kinda cute.- As the new orders get issued, Jasper is a little confused. -Engineering? Are we building schools for d-bees or something? Well, as long as I can lock them inside and set it on fire...-

Moving back down the line he gets back in front of the requisition table. "Hello again, I need a change in kits. CSM Grimm is making me an engineer."

Damn, got caught up in being switched over to engineering that I completely forgot we just got our squad leader. Oh well, looks like I got everything I needed this time around. Did I see a Dogboy? Are they gonna have him dig the ditches?- Looking around the area, Jasper goes back to enjoying the feeling of excitement and wonder of the future even with the slight change in assignment to start.

Joe blinks wearily, the night before being a bit rougher than he was used to. But muscle memory being what it is, Joe shuffles in line and stands when he needs to. Once the CSM gives her speech, Joe sighs and follows his fellow soldiers to the quartermasters to be re-requisitioned. Joe eyes the group he's been placed with and makes note of the new faces. A Dogboy, an NCO, and a few others. Joe waits for his turn at the Quartermaster. "Hey there, here's my requisitions."

The loud whine of the Death's Head Transports on the tarmac made Raleigh Ray's ears ring the entire time he was outside. He was relieved when he finally got inside and the ruckus was muffled by the walls of the complex. Relieved... that is until he was forced to surrender his can of chaw and his favorite comb! As his comb slid down into the bag, a small tear slid down his cheek. He and his comb had seen a lot of good times... a lot of bad times. It was like saying goodbye to his favorite dog. Wiping away the tear, he swore that the as soon as he could, he would hit the base's PX and get himself the best comb they hand and a twelve-pack of chaw tins.

Once inside and sent through requisitions, Raleigh Ray's mind was distracted, but thankful that the supply clerks would do all the work for him. Without his comb to ensure his coiffe was optimized and ready for action, he was just a mere mortal. Functioning on autopilot he got his gear, got changed and dressed with 30 seconds to spare on the three-minute time limit, and reported to where he was supposed to go with the others. Fortunately he was able to spot Medic in all that mess, permitting Raleigh Ray the luxury of just following him to their muster area.

When the impressive CSM Grimm made her appearance and introduced Draper, their new team leader, Raleigh Ray's focus kept slipping. He could feel his hair slowly going limp and flaccid, like a geriatrics's perpetually exhausted penis. It was disheartening. What's worse was he was starting to feel the gnaw of his cheek missing the presence of his chewing tobacco. Even so, he endeavored to persevere and get through this. PX! PX! Just a little bit longer and I can hit the PX! he told himself repeated like a mantra. But then his ears caught Grimm announcing their change in assignment and that they would have to go through the requisition's line again!! His eyes clenched in frustration, but kept his mouth shut, knowing full well complaining would only put him on the CMS's shit list.

With a mission in mind, Raleigh Ray did as he was told, following Klinger through the base and back through the line. When it came is turn, he did his best to turn on the old Ozark charm to make this as quick and successful as possible.
"He there! I got reassigned to an engineering squad. An' get this, by Godmother Grimm herself! Can you hook a buddy up?" he said to the requisition clerk when it was his turn.

Location: Fort Resilience: The Ruins of Old Chicago - in a massive hanger attached to the barracks and off the runway.

As the others go to leave, Solene engages Grimm. She turns, with a look somewhere between annoyance and curiousity. When she listens, her face softens a bit. "Thanks Private. I'll see him next Rotation more than likely. As for not dying, watch your ass, watch those degenerates' ass, and mind your training and what new training you get. You'll be fine. Now get." She has a look when she watches Solene go, but whatever is on her mind, she moves quickly to her next task.

As the squad spreads out through the labyrinthine lines, there seems to be a tale of two cities. Logan, Alan, Jasper, and Raleigh, of all people, all make it through easily enough. They also all end up going through the same set of lines. Their caretakers are professional and quick. Each ends up with a little something extra. All four report back to where they were and find a new woman standing there with Sergeant's bars and a tough look.
Image Her tape says Dansk, so this is their new Platoon Sergeant. "Where the hell is your Corporal? I was told I'd gotten a new corporal."
Spoils:
  • Logan gets a ticket for an Expert Toolkit (K/Demolitions; +2; 100 lbs - mounts in vehicle). It has to be redeemed at 1200 today at warehouse 15J.
  • Jasper gets a ticket for a Plasma Cutter: At 25000 degrees Fahrenheit, this hand held plasma cutter can cut through carbon steel in seconds! This thing can used in melee combat (Damage 3d6; AP 4; MD; catch fire 3+). It has to be redeemed at 1200 today at warehouse 15J.
  • Raliegh gets a ticket for an Expert Toolkit (K/Engineering +2; 100 lbs - mounts in vehicle). It has to be redeemed at 1200 today at warehouse 15J.
  • Alan gets a ticket Mass Trauma Unit: Most medical transports now carry a Mass Trauma Unit. This is an automated medical support device intended to stabilize a seriously injured patient long enough to reach the base. An MTU is a set of diagnostic patches, self-injecting tubes, and ventilators, typically deployed from a box built into the side or ceiling of the patient compartment. Free-standing MTUs resemble a stretcher bolted atop a footlocker. More often they are mounted in a vehicle on a drop down stretcher/bed. On its own, the MTU has a Healing d6 skill to keep the patient alive and stable. A trained paramedic or doctor using an MTU can not only stabilize but treat injuries (+3 to Healing skill rolls for trained users). It must be redeemed at Warehouse 15K at 1300 today.
Lucius goes through a center line that seems to serve mostly NCOs and gets everything he needs. The Sergeant in charge also hands him a pair of tickets. "We got these new tool drones in. Not many have been given out. No one knows what to do with them. Here's two. If Godmother has you special assigned, you'll need all the help you can get." He shakes Lucius' hand and sends him through. The tickets say they must be redeemed at Warehouse 15J at 1200 and 15K at 1300, today. Lucius doesn't get far when he notices Hunter, Solene, and Joe all stuck in place.

Poor Hunter seems to be having the worst of it. When he speaks, the supply clerk, a private, sneers. "Like I want to deal with a psi-hound. Why are you over here anyway mutt? SO help me, I can't believe those idiots sent you to me. Stop whining you mutt! Stand to, and move it!" He points angrily at the end of the line, and unintentionally to Corporal Draper, his new squad leader.

The moment Solene opens up her mouth, she can tell she's found one of those 'frenchie' haters. The sergeant grabs her form. "That's not what this says at all. Can you even read you degenerate?" He scoffs in answer to his question. He stuffs the orders back at her, and she only just manages to catch them. "My break just started, you'll have to wait here." Joe has the bad luck to end up in the exact same line as Solene. And so he waits right behind her in purgatory.

If he notices any of his new squad mates having trouble, he'll see what he can do about it, otherwise he'll just fall in formation.

When Sgt. Dansk asks about Cpl. Draper, he'll speak up "Ma'am, permission to speak."

Once granted, he'll go on to say "We were all told by CSM Grimm to go back through the requisition lines. It's possible that he's still in one."

"Sure 'nuff, Sargeant." Raleigh Ray said in agreement with Logan's assessment of the situation. "He's probably starin' at the back of someone's sweaty neck, wishin' he took a piss before gettin' in that long, slow-movin' line."

He then retreived his extra equipment ticket and presented it to Sergeant Dansk. "If I be readin' this slip here right, me an' my associates need to get to Warehouse 15 while the gittin's good. Permission to skedaddle, Serge?"

The only reason Hunter doesn't immediately leave when the supply clerk, is because he knows he's liable to catch even more shit from someone with more direct authority over him if he doesn't at least try his best. He might be timid and sometimes even spineless in certain situations, but he was far from stupid. "But... Private. I.. I have orders directly from the CSM!" he says like that explained everything. "What.. what am I supposed to tell her?" he questions, pushing his luck a little though it's clear he's a touch distressed at this point. The dogboy's ears are sloped back, his tail is sagging and he's got that nervous and worried head on a swivel look like the CSM herself might just show up and personally beat him up. "She just told me to fetch this stuff... so.. so that's what I gotta do!" Even as he says this however he's clutching the forms given him and is slowly drifting away in a skitterish manner. The display was potentially bad enough that one might seriously wonder how he even got this far without 'washing out'.

The only saving grace was that drift was slowly taking him in the direction of Corporal Draper. Even having some how failed, Hunter knew that not reporting failure or trying to cover it up, was worse than worse than the failure itself. Of course given that he was certain he was going to catch absolute hell, it didn't make him particularity eager to be quick about it.

Eventually though he reaches Corporal Draper and tries to compose himself a little more, but he still has that whole kicked puppy look about him. "Umm.. sorry Corporal but.. um.. they won't give me this stuff." he says holding out the list. He couldn't read so he didn't even know what was on the list in question. He just knew if someone who was in his chain of command he had to be a good boy, and do what he is told.

Grimacing at the verbal bashing the Private dealt the Dog Boy Lucius starts moving his way, at the same time not far away he hears subtle groans of frustration from an entire line as the Sergeant takes an ill planned break. He isn't going to try and bully the Sergeant, so there's not much he can do for the line but he calls out as he reaches the Dog Boy, 'Hunter' as he can now read on his greatcoat, right at the start of the line where a confused Private is nervously trying to decide if he should advance. "BEAR 2, ON ME." his voice isn't particularly loud, but it carries through the small crowd well enough, a perfect 'dad voice' despite his young age. "Don't worry Hunter, we'll get you sorted. Excuse us Private, we'll be out of your way as quick as possible." Walking forward he puts on the same warm smile he used before, but this time fixes the Private with a firm gaze meeting his eyes directly. "Private, I can understand your confusion. You're not a handler so there's usually no reason to deal directly with Hunter here, but it's rotation day and that's going to cause some extenuating circumstances. But easy enough to fix, you can deal with me now. We've been pulled to an engineering detail, so kit's changed." He turns and holds out his hand to Hunter, accepting the document when offered. "Now, you can clearly see CSM Grimm's authorization and exactly what we're due here. Let's see if we can just get this sorted without any other hassles." He looks to the other two from his team, presumably making their way towards him and smirks, "Looks like the Sergeant there took an untimely break. When you're finished with Hunter let's go ahead an run these two through as well, keep things moving."

Having experienced this exact same issue a million times before, whether in line for chow at the mining camps or at basic in the City of Iron, Solène knows that arguing will only make it worse. She is confident she has the proper written authority, even if she can't read it. She also knows that vengeance is often served later, as such she takes a moment to turn to Joe in the line, "Did you happen to catch that Sergeant's name? I'd like to know in case I get reprimanded for the delay."

Of course she has no intentions of reporting him, she'll just wait until an opportunity presents itself.

She is immediately grateful, but also embarrassed, when Corporal Draper points out the situation. It makes her feel like a child who needs a parent do do things for them or like one of those mutants who depend on humans for everything. The irony is not lost on her given how much Free Quebec despises the mutant programs.

If only the Assemblée Nationale knew French genes were considered a mutation. Maybe they would eradicate themselves.

Shaking his head Lucius gives Solene a sheepish grin and shrugs, "No thanks or apologies warranted, it's literally my job to be doing this. I'd have had it all lined up if the posting hadn't been botched over on the MP side. We'll get everything squared away and be engineering the shit out of stuff before you know it." He lowers his voice then to avoid being overheard, "Unless you're hiding a tail or support those who are you aren't a degenerate. For the record, First Sergeant Hawken, the borg that brought me over? He's Free Quebec from before the war. Among the earliest full conversions serving the CS to boot. Useless pencil pushers can hold onto BS like that. When Draper responds, the response itself has Hunter relieved. Oh good. This wasn't one of the really mean ones. So now he went from the kicked puppy to the lost puppy look, but at least now he was to follow his human alpha and that made his world simple again. What he did wonder about was why he was the only one. Normally dogboys worked in packs, but then he also wasn't your typical dogboy exactly training wise. So maybe that was it? But why engineering? Hunter had never heard of anyone training a dogboy to engineer anything! Maybe he was just.. guard duty or something? That was pretty normal for any CS operation right?

Deciding it was best to simply keep his mouth shut, Hunter simply falls in line, hands over the forms when requested and otherwise seems to take right away to both staying out of the way and doing what he's told, when he's told. Not to mention keeping quiet now. Well aside from your usual dogboy quirks here and there.

Rotation Day
Date: June 1, 109 P.A.
Time: 0710; It is light.
Temp: 68 degrees, F but warming up.
GM Notes: Everyone's Bennies refresh. Excellent Roleplaying.

With the arrival of Draper, the private immediately stops his shit. The sergeant's bad attitude was spreading like a wildfire. Draper, with a smile and locked eyes, stopped it. Private Wilkins, according to the tape on his uniform, knows he cannot refuse someone with superior rank without creating an issue. He begins pulling the extra kit together: an orange greatcoat, chemically protected work gloves - those he has to send a runner after to find the ones meant for Hunter. He's about halfway down the list when a female First Sergeant from supply comes over to see what the fuss is all about. The private's speed and efficiency suddenly become a thing of legend as his back stiffens.

She sees Draper, enforcing proper respect (although politely) from one of her problem children, and one of her stations completely unmanned. She growls. She waves Solene to her. To her surprise, Solene hears a familiar accent. Her french lilt comes out over bared teeth. "Let's see that list, cherie." Her eyes widen when she sees who it's from. She shoots a glance to one of her people. "You are now on detached duty. Go find a MP and arrest Sergeant Harvey for dereliction of duty, under authorization of Command Sergeant Major Grimm. I am done covering for his ass. He can sit in a cell while we deal with this sheeet." She glances to another one. "Pull a message slate, send message to CSM Grimm telling her what I just said, hit enter twice, and then simply put 'regarding your orders for Bear 2, Chicago Company. Discretion respectfully all yours. 1SG Desbois."

She then turns back to Solene with a smile. "Can't be having us Iron Heart loyalists being pissed on by idiots, oui?." She turns to another person. More people are appearing simply because she is on the line. She points to Joe. "Him next. He's part of Bear 2, get it done. Godmother has plans and a timetable. I will not have my people stopping it." She prints off a ticket. It has both images and icons as well as words. The image is that of a massive tool kit for use in repairing things. She hands this to Solene.
  • Solene gets a ticket for an Expert Toolkit (Repair; +2; 100 lbs - mounts in vehicle). Redeemed at Warehouse 15J at 1200 today.
She grabs the list from the Private now that she is done with Solene, and another ticket prints out. A large set of climbing gear is shown on a similarly dual purpose ticket (for both literate and illiterate viewers). She gives hunter a pat between the ears. "Good to see a dog boy over here. We don't get enough of them. Should scratch his between ears Private, eez good luck." The look she gives him doesn't hold the mirth her voice does and the private gives hunter an affectionate and gentle scratch between the ears, smiling as he does. "Good boy," he forces out. It even sounds sincere, although he looks miserable.
  • Hunter gets a ticket for an Expert Toolkit (Climbing; +2; 100 lbs - usually mounts in a vehicle). Redeemed at Warehouse 15D at 1000 today.
Joe, for his part, finds that this second person is quite simply the most efficient person he's ever seen. No motion is wasted. He blinks when he gets to the end, but shrugs and types on his terminal and a ticket emerges. "Here you are Private First Class Marshall. Don't show up too early or they won't give you the stuff. You'll need a vehicle to store those in, but I imagine Godmother has that taken care of."
  • Joe gets a ticket for twenty Chemical Scrubbers: A Chemical Scrubber is a canister of nanites which, when activated, converts the chemicals on contaminated clothing or surface into harmless substances. Scrubs up to 10 square feet of surface area. Single Use (each). Stored in wall mountable dispensery unit. Redeemed at Warehouse 15K at 1300 today.
-------------------------------------

Sergeant Dansk gets more or less the same story out of everyone and sighs. When Colton speaks about moving on, she scoffs. "Your first Rotation day obviously. No one goes anywhere till Godmother and the Lieutenant Colonel speak. Then we'll hit chow. After that we'll go get our vehicle, and then we'll get our outstanding gear. We'll be done gathering by 1500, then we get to put it all together until 1700. Then we head to the armory to get our weapons and heavy gear. You'll be free to find your barracks, hit the PX, and find chow by 1830. Once we're done with breakfast, it's going to be asses and elbows all day. We'll eat lunch in the field."

About this time, Lucius leads Hunter, Solene and Joe back to the staging area. Once they are close, she waves for them to double time it. The jog the last fifteen feet. "Alright on me Bear 2. Corporal, you run drag, keep everyone tight. Now move!" She takes them on a light jog through the masses of soldiers, literally to the front of the mass to stand near the non-rifle platoons of Chicago Company. She nods to her LT as they pass. The group finds their names and the last eight of their ID numbers on tape on the ground and stand where indicated. He nods in acknowledgement, and then locks eyes with Grimm. She doesn't respond, but merely glances down at her tablet. From the looks of it, she just got the message from 1SG Desbois. The group sees that smile they don't want to be on the receiving end of. She types something. Both the LT and their Sergeant quirk an eyebrow at the expression. Dansk glances over at Draper who is standing beside her. "What happened back there Draper? Sitrep now." Her voice is low and his is meant to be as well. The team can all hear him, but outside of that only if someone is an idiot and talks loud.

The group sees multiple groups scrambling to fill in holes in the formations. Their COs similarly lock eyes with Grimm as they fill. Glancing around, they each realize that the entire Battalion must be present. All four companies. They are arranged in a half circle around the stage.

Hunter initially shys away from Desbois, though only ever so slightly. Almost like he was expecting her to hit him for being bad. Or something. The look he gives when she actually pats him between the ears though flips from actual shock to a light happy panting and even a wagging of his tail. He might be a sentient, bipedal with partially human DNA, but he was still far more dog than man by design. The scratching between the ears though puts him into momentary bliss. No one had treated him like that since his early days in the Creche! It was kind of bewildering to him but he wasn't going to say no! Once handed the ticket for the climbing gear it's briefly peered at and then neatly tucked into his breast pocket for safe keeping. Oh, so not tools. Guess it's guard duty while out on missions after all. that made Hunter somewhat relieved. It wasn't that he wouldn't do his best to fix things, dig trenches or what ever else was ordered, or even simply asked of him. It was simply he felt much more at home when it was doing things he knew how to do! (Well digging trenches was perfectly fine and easy. But anything 'engineering' sounding was potentially somewhat beyond him)

When it comes time to follow along and jog off towards formation he waits to take up the back of the line as he was used to outside of combat or scouting situations. At least as he knew it, if danger was expected, the dog boys go in first, if it was a relaxed or 'safe' setting like this, then the humans went first unless told otherwise. That was just how things were and he was perfectly content with that arrangement like the majority of dogboys. When he reaches his spot in line though his composure changes considerably. The tiny ticks, ear twitches, sniffing about or even the slightest bit of wagging go away as if he'd turned into a statue. Standing at attention for long periods of time regardless of weather or other circumstances was something well drilled into him to the point it was simply instinct.

Solène watches in awe as the 1st Sergeant comes on the scene and starts un-frakking the supply system, the fact she also has French heritage only adds to the sense of wonder. While relatively common in Iron Heart, she hasn't seen much of it since coming south to Chi-Town. Things really go up on the bonkers scale when the non-com orders someone to get an MP to arrest the original Sergeant! The power and influence of these two female leaders is inspiring and Incroyable!
High Command wrote: "Can't be having us Iron Heart loyalists being pissed on by idiots, oui?."
"No First Sergeant we cannot. In fact, I prefer not to be pissed on by anyone. Which is hard luck when you're a private."

Pocketing her ticket for a tools kit, she collects her gear and gives a nod, "Thank you again 1st Sergeant. If you need a hand with something in the future please let me know if I can help." Debois, I'll have to remember that name.

Returning to the group, Solène checks in with Sergeant Dansk and jogs in formation to her spot on the line. Seeing the Lieutenant she tries hard to remember his face for future reference then stands still watching Grimm and Dansk converse with Draper. She makes no motion to interject but keeps her ears and eyes wide open.

Desbois nods to Solene. "Oh you won't have time for that. I know how thinly stretched our engineering assets are. You'll be plenty busy. But I'll keep it in mind Private First Class. Off with you!" It occurs to Solene that arrested and charged are not always the same. She was arrested dozens of time, but never charged. So maybe they were playing the same sort of trick on the Sergeant.

Logan stands at parade rest (feet should width apart, hands crossed at the small of his back), watching Colton with disgust and amazement at the same time. Just how in the world did he make it through basic training with such an obvious lack of respect for superiors or military etiquette. But maybe he can still be taught... Logan snaps out of his reverie when Sgt. Dansk outlines what the rest of their day was going to be, barely nodding imperceptibly. When the rest of Bear 2 returns, he falls in and jogs with the unit to their designated spots. Standing in formation, he's watches CSM Grimm look at her tablet and get another one of her predatory smiles, as Logan has decided to call them, and wonders who the unlucky person is.

Jasper lets his offered hand drop with a small shrug, his smile however stays put but dims slightly when the to do list for the day is explained. He nods and picks up his bags as the rest of the squad arrives and they move out. -Should be an interesting day.-
Winding their way through the rest of the gathered troops, Jasper ends the run on his own name and puts his bags down and stands at ease. Keeping his eyes scanning the masses, Jasper tries to tag and follow the important figures. When he sees CSM Grimm give her wonderful smile after looking at her tablet he mutters very softly "oooh, someone's fucked." as she types out a response. Apparently not the only one to see it, he listens intently as the Sergeant asks for the Corporal's report on what happened back at requisitions. -Man, I could go for a smoke about now...-

"If Warehouse 15 is even wee bit like this mess here, it could take us a good while to get these tickets punched. Noon or not, I'd be more confident we can get our extra stuff." The view of the lines that seemed to stretch on forever was a daunting one. Raleigh Ray was amazed he was able to get through it at all, never mind as quickly as he was able to.
Jasper holds out his hand to his two squad mates and introduces himself, a warm smile on his face. "Private Jasper Maddocs. Nice to meet you."

... Jasper lets his offered hand drop with a small shrug...
The motion of Jasper's hand lowering caught his attention, snapping him out of the mild trance he was in at the bewildering sight of the infinity lines and sea of heads. "Oh, sorry." Raleigh Ray said as he took Jasper's hand while it was still somewhat out, giving it a firm, respectful pump. "PFC Raleigh Ray Colton... you can jus' call me Raleigh Ray. I'll be your robot wrangler out there."

Then we head to the armory to get our weapons and heavy gear. You'll be free to find your barracks, hit the PX, and find chow by 1830. Once we're done with breakfast, it's going to be asses and elbows all day. We'll eat lunch in the field."
Raleigh Ray listened Sgt. Dansk run down the itinerary. The only words out of his mouth were mostly confused vowels as he pointed to the lines. "Bu... eee... ah.... uh...", ending in a defeated and subordinate, "Yes ma'am." This was not a discussion nor a debate. Raleigh Ray felt as limp and flaccid as his hair. On the plus side, at least he now had an ETA of when he could hit the PX to rectify the injustice that his magnificent hair was wilting into.
"Alright on me Bear 2. Corporal, you run drag, keep everyone tight. Now move!"
Not needing to be told twice, Raleigh Ray hopped to and jogged in tight formation. He may not have been the best soldier, but this military running thing he had down cold. As he neared the assembly area, he noticed some curious looks in the direction of CSM Grimm, but thought to himself, Nope. None of my business! Gettin' nosy in the boss's business is a good way to get on a shit list.

Lucius jogged the double time at the end of their return and to their positions without issue, his breathing as calm as if he hadn't moved. It was close to the truth, the mechanical legs did everything aside from the movement of his arms and other muscles to maintain balance. Even the added burden of his gear was born primarily by his steel spine. It wasn't actually steel, Alice would be able to tell him exactly what it was he was sure, probably ceramics and non magnetic alloys but that just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Returning the glance Lucius gives a slight smile, "Nothing I couldn't take care of Sergeant. Just a Private Wilkins who felt he didn't need to do his job for a Dog Boy and a Sergeant Harvey must have thought he joined a union and took his break after tossing PFC Bouchard's back at her. I politely reminded him that he didn't have a choice, and pulled Bouchard and PFC Marshal over to his queue to expedite their procurement. Marshal had the misfortune of being behind Bouchard in line. First Sergeant DeBois observed what was happening and sent someone to find an MP to arrest Harvey. I get the feeling Wilkins might have joined them in the clink if she could have spared the unmanned station."

Dansk nods at the explanation. "Well good on you for not getting involved more than you did. Solve problems but don't stick out unless it's for our job. When we head in for chow, we'll pull the same formation we did getting here. We go through the line together and we sit together. No one falls behind, no one gets separated. Have Colton be responsible for the dogboy. I wasn't expecting a psi-hound. That will be an added bonus for us. Give us some early warning. Far too often we get to go out without any direct support into supposedly cleared locations only to get slaughtered by a tectonic entity or worse. That hound is going to be very valuable to us out there. I was looking over the roster," she hands him a tablet which has everyone's records. "Godmother actually got us some talent, both engineering skills and not. And yes, I know who your family is, and I don't care. Just do your job and you'll be fine. Besides there's a certain First Sergeant I am far more concerned about. He busted me up from a puke ass Private into something worth having. I owe the tin can." There's a fondness to the nickname that ensures it's not derogatory in the least. Glancing at the list, Draper can see what she means. Colton is a full engineer, literate and damn good at what he does by his proficiencies. Maddocs a kinetic psychic - useful against the enemy. Be a good one to pair Hunter with. Seeing Solene is a power armor driver with a background in mining makes her an obvious choice for the duty. When he sees Joe's education, he notices he went to the same school as Lucius. Was that why he was so familiar? He also sees the bit about sealed records. Klinger's skill with cybernetics is not lost on the no partially cybernetic soldier. And then there was their only actual Combat Engineer. All in all the group had the right skill set for either being the engineering team, or keeping them safe. (You now have full access to the Personnel records of everyone.)

Accepting the tablet and scanning through it's contents Lucius nods, his mind doing the same evaluation Dansk had already done and reaching many of the same conclusions. Personally he preferred as much redundancy as possible, but there was realistic way they could have two full engineers.

Without looking up he address the elephant in the room she mentioned. "I appreciate that Sergeant. Glad you see there's a difference between accepting a few opened doors and riding coattails into incompetence. There's a reason I kept my mother's name. Take my fathers and I could probably have your job. Take the name he didn't and I could probably have a cushy supply job keeping the riffraff handing out goodies. Speaking of which, looks like I'm not the only one with something more to tell. Even my records aren't sealed...might be something I could have gotten, but why even bother. So Marshal is either a fuck up or somebody who hopped off some enormous coattails, either one risks him feeling like he's got something to prove."

He finally looks up from the tablet, giving Dansk a warm smile. "I'm glad the First Sergeant can still make friends, I've been told he was quite the charmer before the transition, but I know there are a lot of people who worry he's lost it. Hard to believe that what he looks like now is an improvement from when I first met him, even with that damned metal skull he insisted on having beneath the skull helmet."

The sgt. explains the schedule to the team. It's only 0700. Today is going to be a long day.

Alan follows the Sgt. to the designated spot. Why does it feel like we are being paraded around to show off? Once at the waiting spots, Alan sees that the battalion is filling in Did the whole battalion cycle out? Seeing how it will be several hours before the next stage. With the squad together, Alan looks around to see the whole team together, when he notices the dog boy in the team. A dog boy? What the hell. I'm a Dr. not a Veterinarian. Alan will ensure he has the necessary information to treat the dog boy for anything if needed. Sergeant, at some point I will need to get a supplementary file for the dog boy."

The Sergeant chuckles and replies to him in a low conversational tone. "Maybe in some backwater you could. But out here, names mean jack and shit. They'll get you Corporal or LT. Out in Iowa or Arkansas, maybe a bit more." The Sergeant shakes her head at the implied question regarding Joe and continues in the low tone of private conference with her team leader. "Whichever one it is, we'll know soon enough. Until then, hope for the best and prepare for the worst." She glances around and speaks a little louder so the whole squad can hear, answering Alan's unspoken question. "I tell you, they've got this day choreographed to the hilt. But as we lose a quarter to over half the Battalion ever rotation day, you have to get really good at it. Between people with talent getting moved to different theaters, people with no talent getting moved to Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, and the like, and then the injuries either moving to Chi-town for treatment or for discharge, they have to keep a steady stream of you FNGs moving in and out of the Battalions." She glances over at the medic. "We'll get you the supplementals Kling-Wrap. But you're only providing emergency care, not clinical. We still have base medical for that. Still, good on you for making sure you're up to task. When we go to the warehouse for you and Marshall's requisition, we'll ask for it there."

Draper gives a slight nod and shrug when Dansk dismisses nepotism, "I'll take your word for it, not something I ever pursued so I'm just working off assumptions. As for the other, I'll do what I can to prevent any issues and mitigate those I can't stop."

Hunter's ear twitches a tiny bit at the verbal mention of 'dog boy'. One couldn't mistake who that was about since he appeared to be the only one in the squad at the very least. Beyond that tiny twitch though he remains still standing at attention, eyes fixed forward, tail still. What caught his attention more was the apparent attrition rate this place had. A quarter of a whole battalion much less 'to over half' was. Not a good sign in his estimation. Doubly so for his own chances of survival. He knew all too well how disposable dogboys were in the CS. Yet, when he thought about it, it didn't bother him as much as he half expected it would. Then again, they didn't hide that fact from us in training.

Rotation Day
Date: June 1, 109 P.A.
Time: 0715; It is light. 0755 by end of post
Temp: 68 degrees, F but warming up.
Weather: It rained earlier, but aside from some wet pavement, you can't tell it now.
Ley Line info: Old Chicago is rife with ley lines, but Fort Resilience is one of the few areas with none within a mile of the base.
Location: Fort Resilience: The Ruins of Old Chicago - in a massive hanger attached to the barracks and off the runway.

Any more comment must be held as everyone on the stage stands as one. The time clicks to 0715 and Grimm rises and speaks into a microphone. "Second Battalion, First Joseph Prosek Brigade, Seventh Corps, Fourth Army, Coalition States National Army. Stand fast for the Anthem of the Coalition States of America." The stirring bars of the music comes up, and every soldier joins in. Grimm moves back away from the microphone and into line beside a line of officers and senior NCOs. It is from there she speaks.
  • OOC: This can be sung to the Russian National Anthem
Coalition States – our sacred state,
Coalition States – our beloved country.
    A mighty will, a great glory –
    Yours forever for all time!

<Chorus> Be glorious, our Coalition States,
    Ancient union of brotherly peoples,
    Ancestor-given wisdom of the people!
Be glorious, our country! We are proud of you!

From the southern seas to the polar lands
Spread are our forests and fields.
You are unique in the world, one of a kind –
This native land protected by the Emperor!

    <Chorus>

Wide expanse for dreams and for living
Are opened for us by the coming years
Our loyalty to the Coalition States gives us strength.
So it was, so it is, and so it always will be!

    <Chorus>
As the last chorus finishes, a loud and unanimous "hoo rah" is added. There are some cheers, but it all dies down within a minute as NCOs and Officers reign in their charges.

The microphone comes on and every person can hear the echo of Grimm's boots as they pund the stage. For those even remotely sensitive to the vibe, be they psychic or not, her aura of authority could be felt filling the massive room.
"Second Battalion, First Joseph Prosek Brigade, Seventh Corps, Fourth Army, Coalition States National Army, you are hereby introduced to your commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Riggs. Show your respect!" The last is definitely an order and as one nearly one thousand soldiers, including CSM Grimm, salute the man as he walks forward.
Image
As he steps forward, Grim steps back from the mic, still in salute. He salutes her and she goes to rest. He nods and she steps back to the podium. "Welcome Second Battalion. Welcome to Rotation Day. I would like to thank our supply department for another well excuted display of efficiency and planning. I would also like to thank the officers and NCOs who helped organize this today. And each of you, I welcome to Fort Resilence. Old Chicago has a storied history, from the last gasps of the Neman defenders, to the reclamation forces of General Prozek the First, for whom our Brigade is named. We are the Fighting Joes of First Brigade. We will hold the line and we will win. There are no other options. Never forget you hold the pride and determination of the entire Coalition States. Our loyalty gives us strength, as the anthem so correctly states. I expect great things from you Second Battalion." He steps back and a Major steps up in his place. "Command and Headquarter Sections will rally on objective Omega, starting now. All other sections will stand fast for safety briefing."

The Headquarters of each Company and of the Battalion itself all file out in neat precision. They head for a series of buses which takes them away. It is 7:45 by the time those buses are away. Godmother is the only one on the stage at this point, aside from two Master Sergeants who are obviously her aids. Everyone over the rank of Captain has left the building. The mic kicks on as she stalks to the microphone. Her footsteps resound across the hall. "Welcome to Old Chicago ladies." As she stands at the mic, her hands at ease together behind her back, the upper-middle-aged woman looked about the room in a slow pan, taking advantage of all the turned heads to take in all the new faces for future reference.

"Hell ain’t got nothing on this place. Of course, it doesn’t help that some of those critters out there actually do come from Hell. Oddly faith affirming really, but don’t tell the Emperor I said that." The woman waits for the brief laughs and giggles to stop before she continued. "Everything that walks, flies, skitters, - hell, everything that teleports behind you the moment you aren’t paying attention - EVERYTHING out there in Old Chicago wants to kill you and scoop out your innards for their turkey dressing."

"I am Command Sergeant Major Grimm, and it is my goal to see each and every one of you survive this tour of duty. I regret to inform you that I will fail. Some of you will die out there. It’s just an unfortunate fact of life. For that I apologize in advance. What I do not apologize for is the ass kicking you will feel from my boot and those of your officers and NCOs when we catch you fucking up. Just keep in mind that ass kicking you receive comes from a place of love. And the beatings will continue until morale improves, I promise you." There are a few stifled chuckles at that, mostly from senior NCOs and line officers.

Grimm paused for a moment and the room darkens as shutters pull over several large windows. Several large lights also dim. The wall behind her becomes the backdrop for a video projection. She nods and slides appear; the first one plainly titled KNOW YOUR ENEMY. A voice over reads the title. "Of interest out there, CSID has identified three factions who have a particular loathing of us, and has decided to bring the battle to us here in Old Chicago."

The screen flickered and behind appeared a picture of a Coalition soldier policing the body of what was clearly a Ley Line Walker, complete with the trademark robes and air-filter mask. "The Federation of Magic has a team out there called Penumbra. They’re chiefly comprised of Shifters and Time Magic Specialists, and Intelligence believes they are responsible for the higher-than-usual rift activity in this area. Generally speaking, they do not engage their targets directly, but instead are content to rift in a pack of demon dogs to gnaw on your face. We have visual identification available of all known Penumbra operatives. If you bag one of these assholes, I will personally buy you a steak dinner! In addition to them, the Federation has a number of regular foot-soldiers and mages. No steak dinner for burning one of them, but they do count as a confirmed kill, which always looks nice on your record. Everyone you kill is a family safe back home." That last line is straight from basic, but it's an effective one, one repeated often to soldiers.

Grimm nods again, and the image behind her changed once again. This time it showed a Gargoyle being torn apart by a pack of Coalition Kill Hounds while a supporting platoon kills its buddies. "The Devourers: they are a group of monsters mostly made up of mostly Gargoyles, Gurgoyles, and Brodkill. Considered extremely dangerous, they are tenaciously active marauders, and they are not afraid to attack right out in the open. Their favorite ploy is to ambush a patrol, rip our people apart, and make grizzly displays of guts and corpses for other patrols to find. These savages relish in sowing the seeds of fear, and CSID believes it is their mission to demoralize their enemies; that being us. Don't let them. Trust your officers, trust your NCOs, and trust yourselves. We will prevail and we will overcome and kill everyone one of these motherless bird fuckers."

The next image on the monitor behind Grimm showed a collage of pictures of a squad of Coalition Grunts capturing a mercenary troupe, and roughly stripping them of their gear. "And we do get our fair share of tourists too. Ordinary scavenging and salvage teams, mercenary companies, and pirate scum. Don’t let your guard down around these groups. They will lure you in with a smile, kill you with the old Frag-in-a-birthday-cake trick, and brag about how stupid you were to all their buddies in Lazlo. They have no business in a shit hole like this, so don’t feel bad about giving them the boot, or if need be, the knife."

"Of course, this is far from a comprehensive list of D-trash and supernatural bowel movements you will come across, so stay sharp out there."

With a nod, the next image becomes a plain one with a simple title reading KNOW YOURSELF, which is read by voiceover. But before continuing, Grimm paused as an addendum came to her mind. "Oh, and there is one more I should mention. CSID hasn’t confirmed it yet, but scuttlebutt has it there’s a new player in town. Dragonwright Cultist intent on getting revenge for the pasting our grandmas and grandpas gave them and their" Grimm pauses to make exaggerated air-quotes with her fingers "god a century ago. If true, they mean business. If true, that also means there may be at least one, if not more, full-on, big-daddy dragon or dragons in town. Report anything you see that may confirm this. Do it by the numbers people, I like heroes, but I like live soldiers too. If you have to choose one, choose the latter. But don't shirk your duty!"

Having finished her impromptu addendum, Grimm tapped the monitor with a hand as if to indicate they were getting back on track. "With that said, let me clue you New Fucking Guys in on the Three Rules that will save your ass more times than not. If you follow the rules, then I get to sleep at night. If you do not follow the rules, then I or one of the people will have to give you one of those ass kickings I mentioned before."

At this point the next slide appears; a picture of a Cyborg Strike Trooper loaded down with a dozen rifles, pistols, and even a pair of heavy CTT-class cannons. "Rule the First: Shoot first, don’t ask questions. As one of the great prior commanders of this facility once put it, ‘Our policy is the indiscriminate use of an overabundant amount of force.’ Heed his sage words and your odds of making it to a different assignment just doubled. Investigations have their place, and your officers and NCOs will tell you if that is the case. Otherwise use every tool at your disposal to bring the collective boot of the Coalition to the asses of our enemies."

The next picture in the presentation was that of a dog boy securing a stake in a obvious vampire and beheading it, and then burning both separately. "Rule the Second: Respect, but do not hate. Hate and love are two sides of the same coin. There is no love in my heart for the scum out there, hence there is no room for hate. But if you respect them, you will not underestimate them. And underestimating your opponent will get you killed. Respect their ability to kill you, respect that they have the professionalism to carry it out, and that they indeed do use advanced tactics, oftentimes learned the hard way against us. You have better support. Use it. Everyone loves to hear the story of the lone squad that rushes in and secure the objective, but I'd much rather hear about the squad that actually survives by waiting for a skelebot platoon to come in and provide security for them while they do it! They are no less heroes for waiting. We have unmanned robot drones, artillery, air assets, and enough heavy ordinance to level this city twice. Don't be stupid!"

As the screen flickered again, an image appeared of an entire platoon of C.S. soldiers, laughing, drinking, and playing cards, pool, and ping pong in a recreation center. "Rule the Third - love your brothers and sisters in arms. You don’t have to like everyone, but you do have to love them. Just like family, you're stuck with them no matter if you like them or not. Out there it is most assuredly an Us versus Them situation. You life is in their hands, and their life is in your hands. It’s as simple as that. And if you don’t love your beloved Coalition, and the soldiers who fight and die by your side, then raise your hand so I can put a vibro-knife through your skull."

The final slide appeared on the monitor, simply saying ALWAYS BE VICTORIOUS, which is again read by voiceover. "This last one is a bit obvious. Make no mistake you will lose out there. You will have to retreat. There is no dishonor in a tactical retreat. Real war is a dance. We step in, we step out. The goal is to make them retreat further and or drive them out. Don't be stupid and waste your lives and equipment on hubris! If you have any questions, ask your NCOs and Officers according to the chain of command." With that the presentation shuts off and the lights come back to full and the skylights are opened again.

Grim stands there and then raises her hand in salute. "I look forward to hearing about your operations and how you will do the Coalition and the Emperor proud. You will now file out as directed by the officers and NCOs of your units. Food awaits. Enjoy!" She fires off the salute, and then begins cleaning up, grabbing her tablet, etc.

Coming to attention, saluting, and returning to rest all happen as they are needed and like breathing they occur with very little thought. Jasper belts out the Anthem with both pride and joy, when the safety briefing begins a smile comes back to his lips when CSM Grimm talks about the beatings continuing until moral improves. -Grandpa loved using that line...- Jasper paid attention to the slide show, and made a point to remember the hostile report. When the maxim of 'use an overabundant amount of force' comes up, he mutters a soft "hoo rah." The rest of the slide show goes by with little outward sign from the private. -Hard to think this will be much use to us as an Engineering Squad...we probably won't even leave the base much.-
Gathering his gear up again after she finishes the briefing and points to their next point of business. -Food, damn...I don't remember the last time I had eaten.- Jasper stands ready for the orders to move out to the mess, and falls in line when they come.
GM Notes
As Jasper is looking around, he notices several other engineering squads, all in similar places as his. One thing struck him. All had at least one psychic, easily visible by the PSI emblazoned on their uniform, and one dogboy. The first squad of their own platoon included a full conversion borg and two psychics. It occurs to him that this is an incredible focus of capability on a seemingly second line assignment. Maybe there's more to it?

Hunter for his part mostly takes the briefing as the 'holy word of god'. After all the Coalition States had made him and his kind and really how much closer could you get? While some of the facts stated did worry him a little, they were also things his training had covered to good detail. Simply put, Dogboys were expected to take much heavier losses than humans. It's half the reason they were created. The other was of course to help detect things like the vile magic users, demons and other supernatural threats the CS regularly encountered and even the playing field or even (preferably) give them an edge. What really struck a cord with the dogboy enough that he (albeit briefly) broke from his at attention stance was the mention of using 'an overabundant amount of force'. That caused the young dobboy to let slip a low, pleased and entirely predatory growl. Brief though it may be. For just a second his tail even wagged ever so subtly. Good, that means none of that shoot to maim or capture alive stuff. They always did say we had better survival chances when we were allowed to go for the throat...

His trainers had tried to basically beat an aggressive streak into him, and it hadn't really worked. Or, at least certainly not the way they had planned. If anything he was more docile than most dogboys in regards to his handlers. But with a green light to kill? You couldn't find a happier murderous psychopath.

The music starts up, Alan snaps to attention and belts out the National Anthem with full gusto and pride he can produce.
Coalition States – our sacred state,
Coalition States – our beloved country.
A mighty will, a great glory –
Yours forever for all time!

<Chorus> Be glorious, our Coalition States,
Ancient union of brotherly peoples,
Ancestor-given wisdom of the people!
Be glorious, our country! We are proud of you!

From the southern seas to the polar lands
Spread are our forests and fields.
You are unique in the world, one of a kind –
This native land protected by the Emperor!

<Chorus>

Wide expanse for dreams and for living
Are opened for us by the coming years
Our loyalty to the Coalition States gives us strength.
So it was, so it is, and so it always will be!

<Chorus>
With the introduction of the Col. Alan salutes and listens to the speech. Wow, the Col. was much faster than I would have expected. The CSM steps up and gives her speech. And here is where it drags on. Alan pays attention to the briefing for identifying purpose. Blah, Blah, Blah. man, this goes on and on. Alan is relieved when the CSM is done with her speech. Time for lunch I hope. Falling in line with the squad and moving with the battalion, Alan will attempt to look around and get a feel for the composition of the battalion out of curiosity.

Alan looks and see that each company has three rifle platoons, judging by the size, plus their engineering platoon, A platoon of what must be mechanics and pilots for robot vehicles, and a 4 man team of bad asses with TAG patches. The medic also recognizes a dedicated medical squad, probably dedicated medivac, standing with escort soldiers of varying types, including two dogboys. Combined with the headquarters unit which already left, that makes up each company, and the bulk of the brigade, though another few platoons of pilots and techs mark some other robot units at the brigade level. What strikes him odd is that every company has a dedicated medivac unit and a dedicated engineering unit.

Logan sings loud and proud, but a little off key but he didn't mind. When the Lt. Col. speaks, Logan thinks to himself You can really tell that he's said this exact same speech many times. It honestly sound more like a a PR pitch than a welcome speech from a commander.

When CSM Grimm starts the actual safety brief, Logan thinks to himself She's said this speech a hundred times at least, but at least she's real about it out here. When she talks about the three to four forces trying to occupy space within the city, Logan thinks to himself I always knew that Old Chicago was hotly contended, but I didn't realize just how how hotly debated the city was.

When she talks about overabundance of firepower, all he could do was grin bigger than shit, then when she talked about respect, his face got screwed up in confusion for a few minutes until she was able to fully explain herself, and when she talked about loving your brothers and sisters in arms, his first thought was of Colton.

Logan snaps to attention and returns the salute with everyone else when he felt that old familiar tickle in the back of his throat. He starts coughing but tries to suppress it.

Standing tall with his artificial back straight Lucius joins the singing as expected. He is not an accomplished singer so instead simply allows his voice to blend with the low rumble from the crowd.

He watches the gathered speakers with interest, he's heard some variation of much of it at prep school but he suppresses the desire to tune it out. This is his first active posting and there's always the chance some useful bit of intel might actually slip in. Even if not, one of his new commanders might prove to be a dick and ask him some inane detail so he intended to be ready to regurgitate whatever he could.

He suspectes the most useful part is when Godmother discussed the factions. Others might be benefiting from reminders of Coalition protocol but Lucius had already spent years having those concepts drilled home.

When the speech reaches its end and Godmother dismisses them Lucius knows they're waiting on a signal from the Lieutenant, but beyond that he's hoping for an order from Dansk, as he isn't sure what the next step of this dance.

As the Coalition national anthem sounded and the majority of his fellow soldiers sung along with all their hearts, Raleigh Ray did his best to fake it. Having only been with the CS and in its territories for a few years, though he had heard the song a few times before, he never really learned all the words to the song. As he faked along, singing the occasional world and line that he new, Raleigh Ray casually looked about to see if any one noticed.

As the safety briefing began and Grimm gave her presentation, one of her opening lines caught his attention so much, it proved to be a momentary distraction.
"EVERYTHING out there in Old Chicago wants to kill you and scoop out your innards for their turkey dressing."

His eyes sunk to the floor in silent contemplation. He'd been there before, having seen the horrors the world had to offer. Never again! he solemnly vowed. Never again!

As the presentation continued and the slides appeared on the wall, the headers caught his attention. KNOW YOUR ENEMY, KNOW YOURSELF, ALWAYS BE VICTORIOUS... Is that from something? he though to himself as the words flashed some recognition in his head.
OOC Comments
After the safety briefing, Raleigh Ray was glad to be dismissed to get some food in his belly. He looked about for faces he knew, Klinger, Joe, and Frenchie, but lost sight of them in the crowd. The he saw the outlier in the crowd and knew where to got; a pair of dog ears that he recognized. "Hey, Hunter, wait up!" he called out, hoping the dog would be able to track down the others.

Listening intently, Solène tries not to roll her eyes at the commander's welcome. Politician, she thinks to herself with disdain. Grimm's safety briefing has some good advice but her overall approach makes Solène wonder if they had a special course in NCO school for speaking like that. The style is peculiar and remarkably similar across the forces. She does a little inward shudder at the thought of learning the subtle dialect of American used by military vets. How can one language have so many words that mean the same thing?

For now, she is content to let events unfold without additional commentary, in her experience these things went faster if everyone kept quiet.

During the speech Joe stands at attention. It's what he was trained to do. Unlike some of the others around him, Joe doesn't really feel any sense of awe, probably due to the nature of his family. To him this is all rather normal. Once the Speeches and the post speech conversation are over Joe breaks his stance and proceeds to follow the rest of his squad. Joe mulls over the fact that he's seen Lucius before. I recognize him from somewhere, and that worries me. If he spills the beans on who I really am, it will make it much harder to do this.

Within a few minutes, the platoon moves out as a whole. Sergeant Dansk calls back to them. "Everyone stay together. We're having a platoon meeting over breakfast." The entire platoon moves as one through the line and gets a hearty breakfast of sausage gravy, biscuits, scrambled eggs, coffee or juice (or both), and some mixed fruit. It's not any sort of MRE, but bulk real food. It's also among the best any of them have had in the service to date.

As they all sit down, the LT stands up. "I'm Lieutenant Dan Simms, Combat Engineer and your CO." He indicates Dansk. "This is Sergeant Dansk, who most of you have met. She's my XO and is directly over half the squad. Everyone eat quietly and listen. Many of you may be wondering at your last minute transfer. Some of you combat engineers are wondering why we're not part of the 25th Combat Engineering Company. The answer to all of that is that we are part of an experiment. Because of the conflicting priorities, the 25th cannot always respond to the need of the battalions. Their job is keeping the roads clear and doing the really big jobs. Our job is to level buildings, build the occasional bridge, and to support Chicago Company directly. You will see many combat deployments. The paradigm for these front line combat engineering squads is to include a psychic hunting pair of a human psychic or psi-stalker and a dogboy. Your job is recon, and occasionally to dig holes or whatever. But your primary job is recon and overwatch. When we go to the motor pool, you will be expected to pull a vehicle. I suggest either a pair of hovercycles or a hover jeep. You'll also be issued jet packs on occasion, so make sure you get rated on them. You're all hear because you either have the skills or the aptitude for the skills that we need. I have two power armor drivers, and I need one volunteer from each squad to learn it . See Sergeant Dansk after breakfast. I also have two bot handlers. You guys will not generally be issued skelebots, but rather mud spiders. You'll get those when we get our engineering gear. Short version, they are damn good at boring through damn near anything and are better for checking dangerous situations like unexploded ordinance. We may occasionally get skelebots for guard duty, but rarely. Most of the time we'll be operating with one or more squads from the company, with them running escort for us. Alright. I'm sure you have questions, so now is the time."

Raleigh Ray sat down at the table with his tray of food. It had been far too long since he saw a breakfast like this, made from real ingredients that he could easily pronounce. The country gravy in particular brought him back to better times; the halcyon days of his youth in the Ozarks.

When the squad's new lieutenant introduced himself and began to speak, it took Raleigh Ray a moment to redirect his focus from those bittersweet memories to what was being said. He listened with great interest, welcoming the challenges of the special assignment... That is until Lieutenant Dan neared the end.
Lietenant Dan wrote:"... I also have two bot handlers. You guys will not generally be issued skelebots, but rather mud spiders."
No Skelebots?!?!? Raleigh Ray choked on his orange juice when that bomb was dropped. From day one of his enlistment he was functioning and training on the assumption that he would have his own personal robotic murder-machine, if not several in due time. But none? That was NOT in his game plan!

At the end, when questions were prompted, Raleigh Ray raised his hand and spoke when acknowledged. "Jus' how combat capable are these Mud Spiders? I mean, that's more than kind o' the point o' this thing they stuck in my head... 'cept with right proper Skelebots." he said while pointing to spot on his head where the doctors installed his Skelebot Interface Implant.

Loading up her plate with an entirely unladylike quantity of food Solène takes as much food as she can and sets her plate down on the table. SHe begins eating like anyone might take the food at any moment in time. It's a stark contrast to the soup and water at the airport lounge - probably cause someone else is paying. She listens to the Lieutenant, sometimes stopping her chewing to hear an important detail. The prospect of a power armor billet perks up her ears. She makes a note to mention her interest to the the Sergeant after breakfast.

Hunter meanwhile sort of milled around a moment as the platoon got organized and just set himself right at the back of the chow line. Predictably most of the food he'd loaded up on was heavy on meat and what ever else they served that was suitable for CS Mutants. He also started eating last, though when he did his ideas of 'table manners' were.. well. 'Different'. But that's what you get with dogboys. There was a reason some people didn't like them, or like dealing with them. Things like this were just a small part of it. He's kind of noisy, messy but by the end has literally licked everything clean and seemingly simply inhaled the food. Thus, the display was at least a fairly short one. After that, he just shut up, stayed quiet and started checking out the whole place, and the people in it. Special attention was given to his squad and the rest of the platoon, trying to memorize who was what in his specific chain of command. The news of being paired up with a psychich wasn't really surprising. Often it was a psi-stalker but it wasn't unheard of for it to be some sort of psychich. Saving his question near the end, Hunter none the less finally pipes up, though he sounds kind of timid as he asks it. "Rrff.. Lieutenant. Rrr....I wasn't trained for Engineering sir. Am I going to need some additional training?"

In reply Raleigh Ray darted his tongue out at Solène in a silent, sour-faced raspberry. Just because he knew it would annoy her, he raised his hand to speak again. He pulled his tongue back in his head and turned to Lt. Simms. "Also, sir, I wouldn't mind callin' dibs on that power armor volunteer spot."

Alan walks in the line to get breakfast and is looking at the food options and is impressed by the food selection. The smells of the food wafting up into his nostrils, Alans mouth starts to water. Alan will nudge the person behind him and with joy in his eyes, "O man, this looks good. Better then anything I had since signing up." As Alan gets the food on his plate, he reaches for both Juice and Coffee. Fresh Fruit? Holly cow, what is this our last meal? Alan follows the team to the table and sits down.

Taking a bit of each item as if it will be his last time, Alan has a look of bliss on his face. The Juice is so tasty and refreshing, the fruit is crisp and sweet, the eggs need a little salt, but they are fresh eggs, and the sausage is fresh from the farm, something Alan is not entirely used to. The Lt.'s speech ends Alans food bliss and brings him back to reality. I was so enjoying myself just then

The LTs speech is rather short and Casanova starts with the questions early, thus breaking the ice. With the exchange between Casanova the minor going on, and Logan getting some clarifications, Alan is not entirely sure why he was assigned to the unit. It's not like they will need a medic 100% of the time. "Excuse me Lieutenant. I'm not sure what my non medical duties will be. I'm sure that I won't be needed 100% of the time, yet I know i'll need to be available in case something happens. What will my alternate duties be?

Hitting the mess hall and line, the smell of food starts his mouth watering and causes a sympathetic rumble from his stomach. Once he sits down at the table, Jasper savors the first bite of each item and he pauses briefly before switching over to basis and inhaling the rest.
High Command wrote:"Many of you may be wondering at your last minute transfer. Our job is to level buildings, build the occasional bridge, and to support Chicago Company directly."
-Still not getting it-
High Command wrote:"You will see many combat deployments. The paradigm for these front line combat engineering squads is to include a psychic hunting pair of a human psychic or psi-stalker and a dogboy. Your job is recon, and occasionally to dig holes or whatever. But your primary job is recon and overwatch."
-Okay, so we will be seeing some combat, and that is why the squads are running so heavy. But overwatch and recon? Fire support I could understand, not overwatch and recon. Guess I'll just be keeping the dogboy alive so he can do that part.-
High Command wrote:"When we go to the motor pool, you will be expected to pull a vehicle. I suggest either a pair of hovercycles or a hover jeep. You'll also be issued jet packs on occasion, so make sure you get rated on them."
Jasper nods once in acknowledgement.
High Command wrote:"You're all hear because you either have the skills or the aptitude for the skills that we need."
-Well, looks like I'll be babysitting. But at least it will be combat missions.-
Solène Bouchard wrote:He has a neural implant, she thinks. "I think they forgot to put everything back when they cut you open. It would explain a lot"
Jasper turns his head towards the woman after she finishes speaking. -What the hell, that's kinda messed up to say.- When Raleigh Ray just sticks out his tongue in response Jasper lets the thought go. -Guess, they know each other. But that explains why he called himself our robot wrangler when we where getting our gear.- The hacking fit of another of the squad breaks Jasper's thought process for a moment before the dogboy seemingly very nervously asks about getting more training. -Well, lets make the best of it....gotta start somewhere.-

Stepping through the line Lucius grins, it's been a while since he ate this well, and while nothing is particularly amazing it is going to be far better than he's likely to see in the foreseeable future. He passes on the gravy but takes a biscuit, eggs, fruit and both coffee and juice. He's just rounding the table in time to hear Bouchard's out of the blue jab and see Colton's childish response. Neither was a good idea.

He sits and tears the top off his biscuit, then casually offers a 'gentle' reminder. "Lets try and remember that Lieutenant Simms is kindly offering us his time. If you feel the need to share unrelated commentary or juvenile responses then I'll take that as an indication that you're done with chow. Keep it on professional and on topic so you don't waste time that's more valuable than yours." He had spread butter on the steaming biscuit while he talked and he marked the end of his warning by biting into it, shifting a calculating gaze between Bouchard and Colton to see if either decided to push their luck.

His piece said he looks to Lt. Simms. "Lieutenant, is this jet pack and power armor training something we're undertaking in the field or something handled during s rotation back?"

Joe is expressionless, his face a mask of neutrality. One could think that either he's overwhelmed or bored. The truth is that the dog and pony show doesn't impress Joe in the least. He follows the team and doesn't offer anything, because he has nothing to off the conversation. Joe quietly observes the others and determines who's vying for what. Doesn't matter, Generals aren't made on Rotation Day. Joe remembers a quiet conversation that occurred between himself and his grandfather.
Cabbot remembers wrote:Joe sits calmly in front of his grandfather the infamous General who rode into battle with Joe Prosek. "Joe my boy, would you like to know the secret to a successful military career?"

Joe nods at his grandfather. "Yes sir."

Marshal Cabbot laughs at the answer. "Do the job. Doesn't matter what they ask you to do, do the job. Oh and wear clean socks, a man's feet are important."

Joe sighs at the unbidden memory of his grandfather. Do the Job, get the promotions. Joe thinks as he quietly eats his breakfast with the others. I wonder why they put me in an engineering corp. Eh, it'll figure itself out.

Simms lets everyone ask question. It's not just second squad, but first too, echoing some of the same questions. A private there looks to Colton, speaking with a home grown Iowa accent. His tape says Bonner. "Oh Mud Spiders work with the implant. They're basically skelebots, but with a body designed for digging and drilling. Pretty awesome actually. During training we got to use one to do hot entry on an enemy armored vehicle. A Iron Heart Armaments APC actually. Muddy Buddy tore through that hull in like 12 seconds. Tore up them on the insides too. Squad was going to do a flash grenade entry, but the training bots they had in there were torn to pieces. The enemy training bots are basically skelebots with a fake flesh covering so you can see weapon effects on flesh, even with body armor on. Tore through that plastic man body armor like a river otter tearing up an oyster." He takes a bite of his food, relishing the thought.

At the calls for power armor duty, Simms shakes his head with a reproachful look at those asking. "I said, talk to the Sergeant after breakfast, not during."

At Draper's question, the Sergeant and the LT both laugh. "Not if we want you trained inside a year, or hell a month like it's going to be. All of you will be doing on the job training. In addition to the normal soldiering and killing the bad guys, you'll also learn the basics of demolitions and engineering, especially how to take down building, a bridge, and how to make a building an impassible mass of stone and steel. You'll also learn APC maneuvering and mine clearing, at least the basics. You'll also build at least one bridge, probably more. We will do time helping out the full time engineers."

He holds up a cautioning hand. "Note that they will call us part timers and they are not wrong, despite the sting. While we are combat engineers, and everyone of you will be by the end of this tour, we also do a hell of a lot more combat drops than they do. Most of the time you'll have a few platoons of infantry supporting you, but that's not a guarantee. Before any of you complain, I can make a combat oriented combat engineer out of anyone. I've done it too often."

He looks at Hunter and the other dogboy. "And yes dogboys, to your kind too. Over two thirds of all dogboys that end up in recon or special ops come through special use squads like this one. It broadens skills and gives them experience working with humans instead of just dogboys or psi-stalkers. I'm training you to be better killers. Take to the training and I will heap praise on you. Fail and I will come down so hard on you, you'll wish you'd never crawled out of the test tube!"

He glances to the squad as a whole and speaks again. "Origin's different, but statement stands the same for all you humans too. There is only one way to succeed at a career in this army, do the job. Do what you're assigned, using the tools and training you're assigned. Everything else is gravy. Do it and I'll probably buy steak for our first platoon cookout. Fail to give me the effort and you're eating veggie burgers and cooking them too. Oh, and take a damned shower when you can, and use baby wipes when you can't. Don't be a stank ass soldier. Can't stand that shit in the field."

Keeping quiet after Corporal "stick up his ass" reproaches her for speaking up Solène focuses on listening, and on her mountain sized breakfast. The Lieutenant offers a good overview of what they'll be doing. She notices he is giving them a kind of sell job for combat engineering. She guesses it was not the first choice for many in the group. When someone perks up about Mud Spiders, Solène looks slightly sullen.

Units like that could have saved a lot lives in the mines, unfortunately taken a lot of jobs too.

The information that special use squads like this can help advancement is welcome news and she considers how she can contribute. The work of building bridges and clearing rubble isn't a far stretch from digging new mining tunnels, clearing debris, or building supports.

Once the briefing is over she quietly volunteers for power armor duty with the Sergeant, "Sergeant, I would like to put my name in for a power armor billet. I have experience operating mining exos, same controls as power armor just used for digging and hauling instead of fighting and shooting."

Joe continues to eat his breakfast, listening to the command team talk, but not really feeling a connection to the conversation. To Joe this is all just a stepping stone to greater things. He chokes a little when Simms makes the exact same comment his Grandfather did. Funny way of getting involved old man. Joe thinks to himself with a smile. Once Joe has finished his breakfast, he sits quietly until the others are finished as well. As a team.

Hunter's ears pin back a little at the moderate reproach and warning he gets about failing to live up to expectations, but at least it puts him at some ease too. If nothing else it confirmed that he wouldn't be asked to do anything he had no idea how to do without at least being shown by someone first. Really, that's all he was asking for since that was a step up from some of the things he'd endured during his training up to this point. With that concern settled?

Well. He didn't really have any others.

The Coalition provided and he obeyed.

Logan listens to Bonner talk about the Mud Spiders to Colton for a moment then asks him directly "Besides tearing into APC's like a hot knife into butter, clearing rubble, and drilling, what else can a Mud Spider do? Can it conduct in field chemical analysis of compounds, analyze the air for cemical compounds, set and/or disarm explosive charges remotely, link up to someone else other than a 'Robot Wrangler' so that person can see what the Mud Spider sees. How many feet does it have? What is the weight distribution for it? And most importantly, is it a reasonable guess to make that we will be getting field training on them?"

Continuing to eat his breakfast Lucius pays no mind to any outward signs of annoyance at his reproach. He knows full well that it's there whether it shows on their face or not. No one gets dressed down in front of a group without feeling something; anger, shame, sullenness. There was always something.

Draper himself feels a slight sense of vindication when Simms shuts down the out of place requests for power armor. It seems like he'd read the man right, someone who looked for strict adherence to protocol. It's not like it's a particularly rare outlook among CS officers.

The description of the mud spiders is interesting and something he'd definitely like to see field tested, but Logan's litany of tech jargon soars above his head. If he picks out one in three bits of information from the answer he'll consider it a win.

Once he gets to the part about just do the job and everything will be good, Jasper smiles, his thoughts wandering back to his childhood. -That's all that matters to me, this might not be what I wanted to start at, but I'll make damn sure I give it my all.-

Thinking about what the LT had said before about the hovercycles, Jasper's thoughts move to the skills he might need to learn to do this kind of job. -Will need to pick up the Jeep, not really the best vehicle to 'scout' in, but that's all I can drive for the moment.- Finishing his meal, Jasper wipes his mouth and cleans up the crumbs that might have escaped their demise before drinking the rest of his juice while waiting for the orders to move out.

Raleigh Ray felt nothing as a consequence of the Nepolionic corporal's words of disappoval. His mind had more important things to process:

Mud Spiders = kill-bots ✓
Baby wipes in the field ✓
Do the job + O.J.T. = S.O.P. ✓
Ask the Sergeant for ...
Solène Bouchard wrote:"Sergeant, I would like to put my name in for a power armor billet..."
The sound of Solène's voice beating him to the punch made Raleigh Ray's head snap around. The motion of which sharply reminded him of how limp his amazing hair was getting... something else he needed to address soon.

Not one to be a gracious silver medal, 1st place loser, he made his way over to the Sergeant to put in his request in the same breath as Solène's. "Sergeant, I'd like to revoice my request to fill the first available power armor slot..." he casually shot Solène a sideways glance "... thus making her's second, actually. I've worked on similar machines and pretty much know its capabilities, forwards and backwards."

Rotation Day
Date: June 1, 109 P.A.
Time: 0900 at start of post. 0950 by end of post
Temp: 68 degrees, F but warming up.
Weather: It rained earlier, but aside from some wet pavement, you can't tell it now.
Ley Line info: Old Chicago is rife with ley lines, but Fort Resilience is one of the few areas with none within a mile of the base.
Location: Fort Resilience: The Ruins of Old Chicago - Motor Pool and Power Armor Storage - number 15

When Logan begins asking specs, Dansk puts up a hand. "You can get the specs later and I'll even let you take a set to bed with you so you can finish being in love with them, both of you." She glances at Logan and Bonner both. Once silent, the LT says his piece.

After being done, they get up as a unit, drop off plates and trash, as a unit, and exit to where they had stuffed their duffels, as a unit. As everyone is grabbing their stuff, three people line up, including one from second squad. Dansk snorts at Solene. "I should hope so Chardonnay, given your billet is Power Armor Driver." She glances at Colton and the Solene and shakes her head. "Would you two just get it with and frack or fight. Damn. I don't care which as long as it's off duty. Your name is on the list Pompador, first even. Now grab your kit and line up."

Everyone lines up and then marches as a platoon to a nearby warehouse. There, they see two vehicles. Dansk walks towards the one with the blade, while the LT moves to the other one.
Image

Dansk points Hunter and Jasper to a door. She also points another human/dogboy pair to the same. they each head for and pick out a pair of hovercycles. When the pair mentions their inability to pilot hovercycles, the attendants direct them to the scout vehicles.

Solene and Bonner are both led through another set of doors and are each fitted to a suit of Mauler Power Armor. They are told the weapons are deactivated and will be activated at the armory when they get their weapons.

Everyone stuffs their bags and packs atop the APC they are assigned to. Dansk has Joe and Logan go up top and secure the bags while Draper and she toss them up. Jasper and Hunter take their place when they get back, while Draper and she work on completing the various paperwork.

When done, and the entire platoon assembled, the LT and Sergeant stand before them. "Alright, from here we split up. We have several warehouses to hit for integral and supplemental gear. First squad will start at this end, and second squad will start at the other. We'll cross near the armory. Until then, good hunting all." The LT and first squad move to the EPC and head off. Second squad heads for the AEV. She addresses Lucius. "Curtains, you'll drive this time. I've got your back. Everyone else mount up and take a seat. Chardonnay, fold up two of the seats and make sure you grab and hold on to the handles overhead for you. You can lock the armor in place if you want, or just keep hold on. We'll be at Warehouse 15D soon."

As they stow their gear the Private First Class asks a few questions to the Sergeant.

"Sergeant, do we have squad assignments and radio call signs. It may have been in some briefing papers but I can't read very well."

Seeing the Mauler, Solène gives a little smile. She knows it isn't the most powerful piece of equipment in the CS inventory, the mighty Terror Trooper was her personal favourite, but it is a good solid machine. Capable of working and fighting it is a real leg up from the scaled down mining suits she used in Iron Heart. Making sure she listens to any and all safety instructions she nods an affirmative about the locked weapons systems then goes through the pre-start checklist making sure she has everything down.

With everything in working order she starts up the Mauler and gives it a test. More powerful than a miner for sure, I'm going to like this, she thinks to herself as she works the hydraulics. Even though the weapons are assumed to be offline she checks them anyway to ensure they are indeed locked but otherwise working. After testing out the movements she does a quick radio check.

"Radio check, radio check. Mauler ready for action."

Lucius wasn't particularly strong. Even with the compensations made through growth hormones and artificial fiber bundles required by his rebuilt legs and spine he just managed to pass the PT requirements. Tossing the bags up the APC wasn't going to kill him, but god damn was he glad that his back no longer truly felt pain. When he and Dansk were relieved he was careful not to let the relief show. Been out of the hardcore basic shit too long, all that time going over tactics, troop placement, and the logistics have made me too soft. Be good to get back in the shit.

With their paper work finished Dansk requests he drives and he simply nods his head, "No problem Sergeant." Been a long time since he moved anything like this toaster oven around, he just hoped he could live up to his promise of not causing any problems.

Jasper moves to the indicated doorway and through. Seeing the hovercycles lined up in rows he can't help but been impressed. -Yeah, that might be something worth learning.- "Sorry, not trained on the bikes yet. Got anything I can drive?" the attendant doesn't even bat an eye, but points to a different area behind the bikes where rows of sleds are sitting. With a nod to the attendant, Jasper walks over to one before turning to Hunter. "Okay, easiest and fairest way I can think of as to who drives. Blades, Skull, Paperwork. Best of one gets to drive, ever play?" If Hunter understands the game Jasper plays the round, if not he explains it to the dog boy. "Right, make a fist and swing it downward three times, on the third time down you end with one of the three hand gestures. Blades beat paperwork, skull beats blades, and paperwork covers skull. If you both throw the same, you keep going until someone wins. Easy, quick, and fair."

Once they get the sled back to where the other are loading the APC, Jasper takes over for the Sargent and begins moving bags up to the others so they can store them. It's tough work, but it feels good to be moving and doing something. He briefly considers just mentally tossing all the bags left up at once, but not knowing what the rest of the day has in store holds him back. With everything loaded and the orders to move out, Jasper hops back into the appropriate seat on the sled as they follow the APC to the next stop. He occasionally glances over at Hunter to see if the dog boy sticks his head out the side or above the windscreen as they are moving.

Hunter, it appears, does not know the game. But it was simple enough. "Well uhh.. I can drive if you want me to boss. Or you drive." he says somewhat timidly. After all, while he and Jasper were technically the same rank, Hunter was just a dogboy after all, meaning Jasper was in charge. At least the way he was trained to see it. If pressed at all though he goes through the motions none the less. Mostly so he doesn't get yelled at or something.

Alan finishes up his breakfast. The LT didn't even answer my question. It's not the end of the world. Lets see what happens. Alan marches with his platoon to the motor pool sees the vehicles. "Those are some ugly trucks. Are we going to get jet packs and fly out of the top of them?" Alan will scope out the two vehicles, find his spot and find the room for a stretcher. When it isn't clear who is assigned to which one Alan is confused and will hunt down Sargent Dansk.

"Excuse me sir, which one am I assigned to?

Once Alan is given the vehicle he will be assigned to, he loads up the vehicle with his gear, and checks to make sure the stretcher can fit for an emergency.

Dansk looks up from what she's doing with a quizzical look on her face. "You're with me Kling Wrap, as is all of Bear Two. We're in the grey ghost here. Toss your gear up and help get everyone loaded. Stand up two of those seats by the door so Chardonnay can get in with her power armor. I want you up here driving the next leg too. You'll need the experience if we get called for ambulance duty. There's a E-Med version that has room for two to four stretchers in the back, plus room for a med team of four. It's not too uncommon for squads like ours to pull ambulance driver duty in times of crisis, especially people like you."

"Yes Ma'am" Alan proceeds to the Gray Ghost and starts to stow his gear.

Under his breath, Alan will comment on the vehicle in question. "Grey Ghost, more like Gray Toaster" Alan will stow the seats for the prowler to settle in and familiarize himself with the controls of the vehicle. As he's looking around and getting a feel for the controls.

As Raleigh Ray made his way to where they stowed their gear for the time being, he was really starting to feel the urge for a dip and the sweet release of nicotine in his mouth, but Lord only knew how long it would be before he would able to hit the PX. And the sorry state of his hair was beginning to affect his self-image; much more and he might start questioning his manhood as some limp-haired cuck. Maybe even a beta cuck if the situation wasn't addressed soon.

Thankfully, Dansk started talking in his direction, helping Raleigh Ray get his mind off his personal woes.
High Command wrote:... She glances at Colton and the Solene and shakes her head. "Would you two just get it with and frack or fight. Damn. I don't care which as long as it's off duty. Your name is on the list Pompador, first even. Now grab your kit and line up."
Pompadore? The nickname instantly put a pep in his step and smile on the Ozark boy's face. Even in its sorry state, there was still no denying the power of his 'do! And then there was the words Dansk said. When the squad broke to mobilize, Raleigh Ray caught Solène's attention. "Hear that?" he said in a voice just above a whisper to avoid Danak's ears, and then held up a proud number-one finger. "I'm first!"

With a grunt Raleigh Ray got his gear on the Gray Ghost APC with the rest of Bear 2; his well-toned, but ultimately pipe-cleaner-esque arms straining with the load. Once in, he situated himself by his buddy Klinger.

Lucius sits down in the seat and goes over the controls and runs the standard prechecks. While he isn't what you'd consider a combat driver, he's had his basic like everyone else and a military runs on standardization. There's an unfamiliar set of controls on the right in front of the right throttle, labeled for the plow. He makes note of it, but figures it's not the time for expirmentation. Engaging the throttle the heavy vehicle lurches forward while a deep shudder which clearly isn't normal pulses through the frame. He stops as soon as he can, but even then they'd gone a couple of meters. "So standard procedure is to leave the blade on the ground? Seems like something designed to keep engineering crews busy patching roads." Reaching up to the blade controls he looks them over again and correctly guesses to pull it towards him to raise the blade. "Agreed Sergeant, we'll let them find another crew to take care of that." The APC lurches forward again, much smoother than before but with a subtle vibration that clearly isn't supposed to be there. Lucius struggles with the controls a little as the vehicle seems to be handling worse than expected but manages to get them going without further incident. "So...when the shit hits the fan, lets hope I'm not the one driving us out."

With the vehicles moving out, and Hunter at this point behind the wheel, the Dogboy gets set to follow the APC, since he didn't really know where to go and couldn't take the lead. He also wasn't sure if that would be appropriate in this particular case anyway since he hadn't gotten orders to do so. The plow digging into the concrete though had his ears flattening back against his head as he lets out a soft whine. That noise was... well it was terrible to his ears to say the least. It probably even hurt just a little.

Fortunately his own driving is significantly better (this time anyway) as he smartly starts to follow the APC's lead on the way out. Anyone paying attention to him though would notice he's left his helmet off, as dogboys tended to do. Sure, technically it would keep his head on, but dog boys hated those things. Not to mention EBA at least interfered with their ability to sense the world around them. Especially their two most important senses, smell and psychic sense. So there were very practical reasons for the decision. I wonder if it's too late to ask about getting one of the old style open helmets? he wonders to himself. Better not to ask, they'd probably yell at me.

Joe does as asked and helps Logan secure the gear on the roof of the EPC's. To Joe it's just busy work, but that doesn't bother him as he would rather have something to do then have more idle time to think. Once the gear is secure Joe climbs down and gets into the EPC that he's been assigned to.

When Draper tears up the pavement, Joe stifles a laugh. Lift the blade first then drive the multi-ton vehicle. Joe thinks happy his face can't be seen from where he's strapped in. Again Joe finds himself time to think, which is mildly annoying.
Joe's Brain wrote:The Training Instructor had a scowl on his face, not that that was new. It was like a permanent feature that defined TI Townsend. That and the unlit match at the corner of his tightly pursed lips. Jackson was driving the stripped down track at the time, and all that could be heard over grinding gears and over revving engines was TI Townsend going through the instruction. "Boy if you burn out this motor I will personally shit-kick you from here to level twenty-six do I make my self clear!" Yelled the cantankerous TI.

A few more moments was all it took before something made a loud pinging noise and the engine died. Joe had never seen a human run so fast in his life. Not that it would save the boy from the Training Instructor, it only delayed the inevitable. TI Townsend began a tirade of cursing so long and colorful, that even today Joe has trouble getting the imagery out of his mind.

TI Townsend shut down the track and hopped down all the while cursing the lineage of Cadet Jackson. When TI Towsend opened the engine compartment, black smoke poured fourth. Another series of curses could be heard as he made his way back to where Joe and a several other Cadets were still strapped in. "Find Cadet Jackson and escort him to the Commander's Office. I will be there shortly." TI Townsend says with an eerie calm.

The screeching sound of metal scraping against megacrete burned in Jasper's ears. "Jesus! What the hell was that?"
Looking at the destruction left behind from their APC makes Jasper shake his head. "I hope we don't have to fix that... he mutters as Hunter deftly avoids the newly created obstacle. -First day and we've already destroyed the road...not a good start.-

Rotation Day
Date: June 1, 109 P.A.
Time: 1000 at start of post. 1050 by end of post

Temp: 70 degrees, F but warming up.
Weather: It rained earlier, but aside from some wet pavement, you can't tell it now.
Ley Line info: Old Chicago is rife with ley lines, but Fort Resilience is one of the few areas with none within a mile of the base.
Location: Fort Resilience: The Ruins of Old Chicago - Equipment Storage Warehouse 15D

Dansk's back is to everyone, so no one but Draper can see her face, and she's obviously amused and trying to school her face into its NCO expression. She does so quickly, but that she's amused is easy to see. One thing about the Mark IX they can all tell immediately is how bare bones of a vehicle it is. Only the pilot's seats are permanent, and the entire rear section can be removed quickly. There are holes in the wall where any number of things can be attached are obviously for options not present. Alan notices three sets of holes on each side marked "Ambulance."

As the banter increases, Dansk is in full NCO mode when she says, "Can it soldiers, let's get this done. I promise all of you are going to screw up at least as badly as the Corporal before the week is out. Now get us to warehouse 15D so we can get our rescue gear. Oh and Wright, you're leading the detail to fix the APC tomorrow morning. Klinger and Colton will help you. Corporals Draper and Jenkins will have the far more onerous task of double checking the platoon's paperwork and ensuring all forms are filled out, filed, and acknowledgements sent. Everyone else will be on cleaning detail for our new barracks, setting up bunks, etc. We'll be back here in a few days to fix the parking lot. Probably going to have to repave it all. Needs doing anyway." That last part was true. Tank treads are hell on everything.

Jasper and Hunter, after their impromptu decision making process, drive out following the APC. Of course even as a low altitude flyer (less than 15 feet), the vehicle easily dodges any impediment, including parked APCs. The two vehicles easily make it to warehouse 15D, which is a smallish affair compared to the massive hangers of the other warehouses. Inside it's packed to the brim with rescue and climbing equipment - ropes, pulleys, hand cranked and electric winches, etc. A half dozen workers in military uniforms commandeer the vehicle crews and the platoon at large to get the vehicle outfitted with all the basic rescue equipment, adding a pair of winches on the AEV, one high above the boxes, and one below.

Hunter also realizes he needs to turn in his requisition. Maybe he can ask Jasper to help him out...

As they recover from the gong show of the lowered boom Solene makes her way into the vehicle convoy, taking up the rear. The APCs were definitely faster than her, especially on the flat grounds of the base. However, they couldn't manuever i nthe same spaces she could or do any of the finer work. As they move to each location she uses the Mauler's incredible strength to load cargo, tossing even the heaviest objects as if they were nothing.

It may work the same as a loader but this military grade stuff is a lot more powerful. Must be the nuclear power plant instead of electric batteries.

She enjoys the manual work of gearing up. It's straightforward, has a definitely start and a discernible end. Simple, honest, work. Not surprisingly there isn't a word from Colton.

Hunter deftly parks the hover vehicle and shuts the engine down in an appropriately designated location before looking over to Jasper. "Uhh.. so I have this thing." he says holding out the ticket he was given for equipment. "To pick up stuff here. Do umm.. do you know who I should be handing this to?" he asks. Better to have Jasper call him stupid or something than him screw something up, get called stupid by the troops working at this part of the complex and not get his gear, and then get yelled at for not having the gear! For a dog boy he really did seem rather... timid.

Lucius doesn't miss the struggle in the Sergeant's face and is glad for it. He'd learned there was always a game to play. Stomp down on behavior here, let it flourish elsewhere. They'd gotten loose with their chatter at the briefing and he'd had to put on his hardass mask. Now they're isolated and he's able to let it slip off. He can plainly see it's the same with Dansk, ensuring good spirits and clamping down before they can spoil and turn the whole thing toxic. Marching orders given he continues driving without adding a comment. Nothing left unsaid as far as he was concerned.

When they arrive at the next warehouse and set down next to the APC. Jasper hops out of the craft and stretches a bit as tossing up those bags was quite the ordeal. -Wow, not used to physical labor....never really had to do much but train the mind so far.- When Hunter mentions he needs to pick up some gear on a ticket, Jasper reads it quickly before responding, "Actually I have no clue, but give me a sec." Turning to the nearest warehouse worker as they are approaching the APC Jasper waves over at them. "Hey, we got this ticket for some fancy climbing gear. Who do we need to see?"

"Aye aye, Skipper!" Raleigh Ray replied without a hint of sarcasm.

He then turned to Klinger. "Kind o' lookin' forward to crackin' this baby open, truth to tell. Maybe I can rig in a plasma turbo field inverter while I'm at it. Get an extra 150 horseys and 50 meter-kilos of low-end torque out o' this bad boy. Yea! That's what I'm talkin' about!"

The hillbilly mechanic's eyes momentarily glazed over as the hot rod possibilities ran through his mind. Then he remembered the hefty tool kit he was about to get. Might help with the soup-ups he had in mind. "Oooh, this could be good."

He took a second look at his ticket foe special equipment again with giddy anticipation.

Flashing the private a quick thumbs up to show that he understood, "Thanks for the heads up." Turning to Hunter, Jasper begins to speak before stopping short. "Just need to talk to..." Looking over the Dog boy, Jasper's mind comes up with a few issues that might pop up. -Well, Hunter seems to be really worried about making a mistake, a I don't want to send him to a guy who hates mumblers, so I guess I'll try to lead this one.- "Lets go talk to the Sergeant."

Walking up to Sergeant Phillips, Jasper waits until an opening appears before speaking. "Morning Sergeant, we have a ticket from requisitions to collect some climbing gear from this warehouse and we're told you were the man to speak to." As he mentions the ticket, Jasper hooks his thumb over and points to the ticket Hunter has in his hand.

The Sergeant looks at the ticket and nods. "You guys are in the scout vehicle right?" When this is affirmed, he nods and looks to his people and calls out. "Thank you Sergeant." Jasper earnestly says, before giving a quick nod and returning to the vehicle to lend a hand if needed.

Once back over by the vehicle, Jasper offers his help with whatever the installers might need. "I can move stuff, hold stuff, or just stay out of the way. Just let me know what you want me to do." Turning back to Hunter, Jasper quips with a smile; "Well one thing off our to do list. Hopefully everything else goes as smoothly."

When Jasper handles the requisition for Dansk notices. Draper notices her smile to herself. She then heads over as the crews are finishing up on the climbing gear installation. "Good looking out, Maddocs. You two are hunting and watch partners, look out for each other." She waits to acknowledge their reply and then heads to the sergeant in charge of the warehouse to talk. Once lockers have all sorts of rescue gear stuffed in them, winches are installed, and the climbing assist gear is installed in the hoverjeep, the crew sets out again. This time they skip five warehouse before ending up at 15J. The sergeant in charge addresses the crew. "I know several of you have requisitions for me. I will call you, don't come looking for me. Until then, do as your Sergeant instructs."

Everyone spends the first hour installing cabinets and racks for tools and weapons. At 1200, those getting tools called to the Sergeant. Each is given a large cart with a pile of tools and instructions on assembly. The plasma cutter is the sole exception, but it is stored in the scout vehicle. Everything else, including less portable cutting torches, is installed in the APC. Stomachs start growling from the exertion. Dansk calls out at 1215. "Alright, we're done. Lock it down and get loaded. We have a chow activity at 1230, so let's get moving!"

Hunter just keeps following Jasper's lead, almost like a lost puppy. He's not always the most proactive it would seem, as if he's hesitant to do something wrong, but if prompted or when ever it seems appropriate he pitches in with gusto at least. At being called 'hunting partners' Hunter lets out an affirmative 'Woof!' and wags his tail. He didn't expect to become Jasper's best friend or anything but he was still going to do the job as enthusiastically as he could manage all the same!

If nothing else though, he had decent strength for all the lifting and packing needed, the mind to pack it properly and neatly and the wellspring of energy to not need to slow down while doing it unless he was moving something particularly delicate or extremely heavy.

With time to kill, Raleigh Ray welcomed the busy-work of putting shelves and cabinets together in the APC's hold. In fact doing so was beneficial because it allowed him to scout out all the best hidey-holes to stash his various vices in... even if he had to make a few in the process.

When high noon rolled around and the Sergeant presented him with his cart of tools, Raleigh Ray didn't even mind they came with a Some Assembly Required caveat. Instead he got to work immediately. Even as the call to get their lunch-grub was called out by Dansk, he continued on; it wasn't like he was driving after all.

As they went along, his hands working at a blur of a pace, Raleigh Ray made idle chatter. "I wonder what they're servin' up for lunch. Can't be as good as that breakfast. That was, like, whole-hog impressive ... They wouldn't let their cooks cook whole-hog, would they?"

Alan does his best not to get in the way of anyone, he is well out of his league when it comes to putting things together. Once the chow order comes down, Alan is concerned. "That will give us less then half an hour to eat. Let me guess, MRE's. I hope I get one of the good ones. In trying to avoid getting in people's way, Alan manages to get right in the way and walks backward into a piece of gear being carried by Solene.
GM Note
Alan, make a Vigor roll at -2 or suffer one fatigue.
The situation stops as both sergeants (including Dansk) and all three corporals (including Draper) come over to check on things. One of the corporals is about to get onto Solene when one of his people says the guy just backed into her. Klinger is pulled off to the side and is made to sit down in the hover jeep with his canteen of water for a few minutes. A medic looks him over and tells him to get off his feet for a few minutes and then make sure he watches what he's doing this time. Dansk and Draper are there with him, as everyone else finishes.

Alan sits in the jeep, and looks at Dansk and Draper with guilt about the accident. Yea, this is a good start. I can see the report now, Medic caused lacerations on his own head by being an absolute idiot and not paying attention to where he was going.

I'm okay, just a little tired. It's just a bump."

Bouchard sits quietly in the power armor, she had toyed with the idea of radio chatter to keep the group busy but was a little gun shy after the Corporal had beat her down for being a smart ass at breakfast. Keeping busy she monitors her instruments, does intermittent systems checks, and generally does busy work while everyone is inside picking up gear. Then she sees Klinger backing himself toward her. With no room to move without squashing him like a bug she deftly moves the Mauler back a step so he didn't knock himself out from the impact.

She is about to radio something smarmy when the noncoms show up. Instead she just extricates the Mauler from the mess and radios a sitrep.

"All good here. Situation normal, all frakked up."

Joe isn't against manual labor, it was one of the reasons he joined the military. Joe's mother on the other hand would have quailed at the sight of her son performing such work, the work of servants and common laborers. Which was likely why Joe did the work with a smile. Joe does as asked by his commanding officers, not being anything of an expert in this situation. When Klinger gets clobbered, Joe flinches and makes a noise. Ohh, that's gonna smart. When the order to pack it up comes around, Joe quickly cleans up what he was doing and makes his way to join the others as they make their way to chow. Klinger's comment about Beef Wellington elicits a smirk from the CQC specialist. Used to be a regular thing for me... If they only knew what I gave up to be here.
