Pitiful wall. Team spreading out. Backing out of the tree branches practically dumped her into N3. Trying to launch again would definitely put her into the branches again. Gotta do something about this dickhead now.

Samuel had been looking for something that he might use to make following him more difficult, and thinks he found one. That tree, or is it those trees? Well the two are pretty close, even touching at ground level, if he can dodge between them...

Chance got off to a good start. She was ducking through the forest, glancing back over her shoulder to check on the others as she went...and as such made the kind of mistake any city girl might make...her eyes weren't where she was going.

Abruptly the ground wasn't under her forward foot, and she was falling, windmilling her arms and emitting a startled yelp. For all that she was in a different time-zone or however this worked, the world was still the world. She couldn't walk on air or walk through walls.The only bright spots were that it was unlikely anyone noticed her clumsiness, and that the time she was losing was still in that accelerated timeframe...she was losing a bit of her lead, but wouldn't be falling behind because of it.

As long as she got up off her ass and climbed up out of the ravine and kept moving!

Rob rushed ahead through the trees and came up to a chain link fence that seemed to surround the property. It was about ten feet high, but otherwise didn’t seem to have any security on it. Beyond the fence seemed to be an access road and open ground.

Shanice, frustrated, turned on the Nexus guard that caught up with her, and her force field slammed him into a tree even as Caelian charged in and shoulder tackled the guy. The guard slid to the ground, unmoving.

Samuel jumped through a forked pair of trees and got stuck, delaying him.

Constance wasn’t watching where she was going and stepped right off into a ravine, falling on her face. She wasn’t hurt, just delayed as she climbed out of the ditch.

Hexx snarled--these jerks were way too persistent. Need something to shake them off. She stumbled over a fallen tree, but managed to catch herself. Even in the gloom, her eyes managed to fall upon a small chunk of wood, probably small enough to throw two-handed, large enough to bean the goon right on Nature Boy's tail.

She takes a deep breath, grabbing it by both ends, and then hefts it--only to scream bloody murder as the rotted wood splits just as it goes over her head, spilling a small swarm of very confused bugs, worms and other vermin all over her. She has to take a few moments wiping them out of her eyes and clearing her mouth, losing precious time trying to recover from the shock. Damn woods--if this was a freakin' alleyway or mall I'd be clear by now....

As the fence comes in view Volo begins to feel a little bit of relief, when suddenly a root catches his foot. Tumbling he manages to roll back up to his feet, but in doing so he sees an agent on one of the other kids. 'Jason maybe?' Damn it! he turns and hurls the crow bar he had been running with as hard as he can for the agent about to take Jason out. the throw was well out of his range and the crow bar bounced uselessly off a tree a few feet from Jason.

Then turn back and begins climbing the fence. His adrenaline was going to much for Rob to think clearly as his first two attempts to climb the fence fail as the fence was loose on the posts springing around and shaking him off. that is when he realized he could crawl under the fence and was gone in only moments...

Shaking her head to clear the twigs and leaves and stuff that had gotten stuck in her hair, Chance attempted to snag the leadmost armored pursuer in another time warp, then turned to carefully skirt the ravine and keep moving towards the fence out of here...

Hexx grabbed up a log to attempt to throw and found it falling apart in her hands, showering her with bugs and worms, leading to a minor freak out by the teenage street urchin.

Rob scrambled under the fence and onto the access road on the other side.

You now have the Flee maneuver available. As an Action, make an Athletics roll, no modifier (because you have at least 6 cards between you and the nearest enemy). If you succeed, you are out of the Chase.
Cailean rushed up to the Nexus guard on Jason and walloped the woman with his ham-sized fists. She lay still on the ground.

Samuel rushes up, joining Cailean as they darted through the trees away from the remaining Nexus guards stuck behind Shanice’s force wall, though that wall dropped as the purple girl smashed the force energy into one of the Nexus pursuers. The guard grunted as he was hit, but it only caused him to stumble, not hurting him.

Constance turned her powers on the stumbling Nexus guard and he froze up, time locked in place as she ran ahead.

The Nexus guards discovered the force wall was gone and rushed through the trees after their mutant quarry. Two of them fired at Samuel and Caelian, but missed.

It seems Sam is not much of a woodsman, he keeps getting into trouble in trying to get away. No one else seems to be having as much trouble, though admittedly he is actually doing pretty well at running.

He thinks to himself, I have to get better at avoiding these obstacles.

Ironically this is just before he steps into a rabbit hole and very nearly falls flat on his face or breaks his leg. Well, at least he thinks his leg was in danger of being broken...

Caelian can here the guards shooting their direction and surprised that his size has not made it easier for the guards to hit him. At one point he was running alongside @Probe when he disappeared from sight, for just a moment and then he was beside him again.

"Find yourself a hole, did ya?"

Caelian gets the feeling that there is still one more of the special kids behind him and he determines not to escape without everyone. He heads past Probe and Jason towards Winger.

Losing himself in his flight he continues flying just above the treeline and trying keep himself out of sight. Occasionally swooping down to check and make sure none of his companions require any assistance.

Shanice dropped her protection around Caelian and put up another force field behind them to impede the Nexus guards chasing them as she flew ahead.

Rob managed to get up and over the fence, successfully out of sight of the pursuing Nexus. As he pulled up on the access road to catch his breath, a voice spoke from the where a dark van was parked in the trees, the back doors open. In the back, a blonde woman in jeans and a nondescript t-shirt sat bound and gagged and unconscious.

“Well, it’s about time,” the man said. He wore a Nexus uniform, though his tactical gear was stacked inside the van and he leaned against it smoking a cigarette. He did wear a sidearm and combat knife at his belt, however. “Weren’t there more of you? Where are your friends? Oh, and Todd wanted to know if you liked the cookies,” he said, flicking the cigarette away. “Get in.”

He made no moves toward Rob, though.

Sam tripped up in a rabbit hole, causing him to fall behind, but a sudden burst of adrenaline poured into him and he surged forward.

Caelian, Jason, and Chance also surge ahead, hoping to put more distance between them and their attackers.

The Nexus guard Constance had time trapped struggled to get free and couldn’t.

The Nexus guard chasing Constance put on a surge of speed and ran smack into Shanice’s force wall. She tried clambering over, but couldn’t manage it.

The guard chasing Sam ran and aimed his stun grun at the teenage boy, but the shot splattered against the force field.

The guard running after Caelian got caught up in some brambles, but she tried to get a bead on the big man, but her shot went wild.

Rob eyed the man unsure of who he was, but desperation causes one to grasp at straws. "Who is she?" He asks as he stalls trying to clear the adrenaline from his mind enough for him to think.

Looking over his shoulder he decided he had no where else to go Volo caves in and moves towards the car. "You have a cell phone I can borrow, those guys had mine and I don't know if I can trust it."

Catching his breath Volo looks in his wallet and realizes he has less than $100 bucks in actual cash. Those bastards are likely going to be able to track his credit cards and he is likely wearing a bug...

"Crap!" he says as he strips down ans starts checking all his seems on his clothes and wallet. Are they smart enough they planned for this escape, is he bugged, are they playing a game like in the movie where they hunt Van Dam through the woods. Erasing his cell phone and leaving it in a puddle he starts thinking.

Once he is satisfied he is good Volo decides to dip his whole body, clothes and all in water, just in case. laying in the stream 'holy hells this is cold' he tries to think of any time he says stuff like this in a movie or a book. What should he do, can he call his lawyer from a pay phone or will all the ones close to the facility be watched.

He needs to find those other kids, they were special like him and would likely know what to do or where to go. Finding a safe spot to wait and look out he begins thinking, trying his best to control his adrenaline. Panicking will only cost him his freedom.

Caelian turns his focus ahead, thinking he may have heard a chain link fence. With my size I should be able to lift the fence so the others could get out. Heck I might be able to trap the guards in it, if I can move it.

Katt blinks as Constance goes dashing forward in a blur. How the hell does she not run into things?

Making her own way forward, she comes up short when a low, almost demonic growl emerges from the brush in front of her, the source obscured by the lighting, but sounding for all the world like Cujo a few days after the bat cave. To either side of her, though, are tight brambles making an easy workaround impossible. No way in Hell I'm back-tracking. C'mon, just like the dobes at the liquor store back lot.

She digs in her combat boots and makes a hard run forward, jumping at just the right moment to sail over the head of a very confused opossum. Running onward, she comes up short just as she reaches the fence.

This just is not Sam's day, despite his best efforts, and they have actually been remarkably good given that he is a geek not an Athlete, he keeps having problems with this escape. Take, for instance, this snake here. Now it is too small to hurt him if it is a constrictor, but he can not tell at a glance if it is poisonous. It is not like he raises snakes at home or anything. Odds are it is not poisonous, not many poisonous snakes in these parts, but still he would much rather not find out he is wrong the hard way.

Unfortunately the path he is on is narrow here, so he will have to either jump over it or backtrack...

Rob's eyes narrow, he has little other hope of getting out of here, but still this guys was weird and the whole 'she is me' thing was a little off putting. Maybe she is like a telepath and using mind control powers or something? But why wouldn't she make him untie her first. Looking a little side ways Rob does not know what the man is talking about with the bad accent. "Well, toss it here. I can call a lawyer and get this place shut down."

The man in the Nexus gear actually...giggled like a girl. “Really? Call a lawyer, shut it down? This is the government, kid. Do you even know where you are? No, there are others better equipped to deal with this than lawyers.” The man pulled out his phone and tossed it to Rob. “I doubt you’ll get much of a signal out here. But at least, like, you can play games or something while we wait for the others.”

You are one card away from the van and safety. Alternatively, you can use your action to essentially remove the FENCE Complication from anyone behind you by ripping it up. Just make an Athletics roll. You could MAP to both take down the fence and run to the van.
Shanice paused and put up another force field and used them both to slam into the Nexus guards.
Winger
You didn’t roll damage. Given the range limitation on your fields, you can only put the second in the same line as the first, so you can get 2 damage rolls on Nexus 2.

Caelian stands on the opposite side of the fence, nearest the road. Reaching his arms out wide he wraps his fingers into and through the chain links of the fence. He then focuses on pulling with his entire upper body and bringing his hands together. This fence is coming down.

Constance blazed across the forest, keeping an eye for spots where the brush grew too thick, or copses of grass suddenly stuck up too high. She'd learned a valuable lesson about crossing open fields. There was a fence up ahead now...

What the hell happened now though? Where even were they? How was she going to get back to normal after this? Were these guys going to keep chasing her? Did she still have money? A place to stay? How long had she been stuck here?

Why couldn't she remember any of this?

The Nexus agent timestopped by Constance still couldn’t get free. Another agent ran into Shanice’s force wall and was forced to stop and find a way around. The last remaining agent tripped over a fallen log and found himself falling behind, but he sprinted and ran up against Shanice’s force wall as well.

With the fence ripped from the ground by Caelian, Chance was able to sprint through unimpeded. She hit the gravel access road and spotted the boy Rob talking to some man wearing a Nexus uniform, though his tactical gear was stacked just inside of the back of a van. The back doors were open to also reveal a woman lying tied and gagged in the back of the van.

“Oh, good, Speedy Gonzalez is here,” the man said. “Let’s try this again.” His voice took on a bad German accent. “Come vith me if you want to live.’ Get in the van. How much longer until the others get here?”

The man reached into the van and picked up a plastic container. “Cookie?” They were the same still-warm chocolate chip cookies that had been on the trays of food in their cells.

Volo sees the girl come running out and gives a slight nod of his head as he is distracted. Tossing the phone back to the agent he says. "Damn thing gets no signal. You where right." Once he is done he looks up fully at Chance. "Oh hey, your the girl with the level head earlier. Glad you made it out."

The chain link fence is down and Cailean rips up a aluminum fence post. He knows the way is clear to the access road but nothing of the van or those near it. He sees @Chance bound past. At least one has made it.

Turning back to the woods, he yells "All my jail bird friends. Let out a hoot if you got those Nexus Twits following you. It's payback time. Hulk Smash, if you know what I mean." @Winger @Probe @Jason Konig @Hexx

"Okay, so...clearly you've time traveled here from like, twenty years ago? With that reference?"

She pointed at the woman in the back of the van.

"That's seriously waving a red flag for me. What the hell is all this, and no I don't want a cookie. Dudes with vans offering snacks are bad news even when there's NOT ladies tied up in the van, you know?"

The Nexus agent caught the phone again and slipped it back into his pocket. “As soon as you all load up, we can get out of here.”

Shanice slammed her walls at the two remaining guards. One managed to connect. flattening the guard, though the other found cover behind a tree and managed to avoid it.

Caelian ripped out one of the posts for the fence and readied himself for the remaining Nexus guards as he waited for the rest of the captive teens to run past him.

Kat was the next through the opening in the fence. Up ahead, she could see Constance and Rob talking to someone in a Nexus uniform, though his tactical gear was off and inside the back of an open van that had a bound blonde woman in it.

“Good, another one. There are cookies in the Tupperware,” he said, indicating the plastic container.

Sam ran through the trees. He could see the gap in the fence ahead, guarded by the massive form of Caelian with one of the fence posts in his hand, and beyond the big guy was an unmarked black van parked in the trees.

Constance couldn’t really be blamed for her skepticism regarding the stranger. He sighed and picked up one of the cookies. “They’re really good. Good thing I don’t need to watch this guy’s weight.” He glanced at the woman in the back of the van. “I told them this wouldn’t work,” he muttered. “Look, I don’t have time to give my life history. So you can get in the van and we can get out of here, or I drive away and let Nexus take you back into the fold. You know how much trouble this was to arrange?”

Back a ways away, the guard that Constance had paralyzed finally broke free with a gasp, leaning against a tree to catch his breath.

The other remaining guard struggled to find her way around or over the force walls blocking her path.

ROUND 7

The formerly time stopped Nexus guard jogged forward in the direction the mutants had been running.

The other Nexus guard avoided tripping over a tree root and instead used it to launch herself past the force walls in her way, but she failed to stick the landing and make any progress after the mutants.

The end is in sight, thinks Sam as he catches a glimpse of the giant by the uprooted fence. He puts more effort into getting there, hoping that getting off the property also means getting away.

Hexx sees the folks standing near the van with the guy in the Nexus uniform, and hears the "Come with me if you want to live" line. Glancing around, her eyes finally spot a good-sized rock upturned by the Big Guy ripping up the fence, and she plucks it up, charging forward and hurling it at Van Man's head.

"How about, give us your van if you want to keep the ability to breed, Creep!" Sadly, the rock goes high, making it easy for the man to duck, though the paint on the van is marred when it bounces off, ineffectually.

She then gave the man a considering look, went over to him and offered her hand.

"Constance. Thanks for the assist. I have, like, a billion questions, but it can wait until we're out of here."

Then she got into the van...taking the chance to examine the woman back there as she did.

She's already looking around to see if there's something else she can throw, even as she continues talking. Shanice reached out with her force field and grabbed the nearest Nexus guard, who pulled up short as she was caught, struggling against the nearly invisible field that restrained her.

Sam rushed through the demolished fence and pulled up with Rob and Constance and some stranger in Nexus uniform, though with his tactical gear put to the side in the back of an open van. The van also had a blonde woman tied up and gagged in the back.

“Oh, good. There’s another one,” the stranger said. He looked toward the fence line for the rest. “We don’t want to stay here too long. They’ll scramble mobile units once they figure out which way you went.”

Kat rushed out of the trees and through the fence, scooping up a rock and chucking it at the man. He ducked the throw and the rock pinged off the van. “Really? Is that any way to treat the dude that’s getting you out of here?” he said. “Get in the damn van, or let Nexus grab you and do unspeakable things to you,” he snapped.

"Constance. Thanks for the assist. I have, like, a billion questions, but it can wait until we're out of here."

The man actually smiled and took Constance’s hand. “And you’ll get some answers. I’m just not the best at them, but I’ll take you to someone who is. I was just hired to get you out.”

As Constance studied the woman in the back of the van, her eyes looked at the young teen in fear. She was blonde and blue eyed, in her early to mid twenties, attractive, and scared. She mumbled something through her gag.

“Hey, big guy!” the stranger yelled to Caelian by the fence. “You coming, or you just going to stand there until Nexus shows up and shoots you?” He looked at Kat. “And ew. No super-pervs, no. But someplace safer than here. Unless you want to be back on a metal table in your underwear having unspeakable things done to you.”

Little thing are piling up, mostly the persistence of bullies who won't leave freaks alone, and her frustration is becoming a snarling rage.

She swings bubbleNex7 over between herself and Nex1, spinning 7 to face 1. Let the bullies face each other for once.

She's giving away the length of her reach, but it's more a gesture now.

(if she reaquired her gopro and it looked functional, she'd use it for a telescope now, else) She tries to handblock out the worst lights and squints to see if there are any helicopters on the facility pad that might turn into chasers.

Keeps up her bubble and her leanable saddlebranch. (Evade free)

Samual snags a cookie, using his powers leaves him hungry, and states, "No one left behind is a grande ideal, but may not be attainable at this time Big Guy. We do what we can to get everyone out, but we may have to stage a strategic withdrawal and return to rescue another day."

He looks around, If I can find some stones the right size, perhaps I can morph a slingshot and shoot stones if it will help the rest escape.

"So um, how the hell is that giant old man going to fit in the van?" Rob asked.

“We’ll fit him in. Strap him to the roof, if we have to,” the stranger said. The back of the van was big enough, if the woman wasn’t tied up in it.

"So this lady is you right? Is there a reason we have not untied her?" Rob continued.

“So she doesn’t run away,” the Nexus guard said. “Look, it’s complicated, and I’ll explain. I’m called Psyche.” He offered his hand to Rob. “Maybe I’ll give you my real name when I can trust you. I was hired to get you out of Nexus custody before those bastards did something to you that couldn’t be undone. Like me.”

Shanice and Jason came through the trees then, and they and Caelian hurried to the van. There were no sounds of Nexus pursuit.

“Okay, good. That’s everyone,” Psyche said. He started to undress, tossing the Nexus uniform into the bushes until he was just in his boxers. “Now do me a favor and cuff me. And you can untie her” He tossed some cuffs to Rob and then sat up on the edge of the van. He reached for the girl. “Come here, Jenny. It’s alright. Time to go back to sleep.”

The woman’s eyes widened in panic. She scrabbled away from him, trying to scream, but unable to through the gag. He grabbed her wrist and untied her hands. She clawed at his face, which he seemed to allow.

And then suddenly she blinked and was calm. Quietly she pulled off the gag and untied her feet and stretched.

“Sorry you had to see that, but I don’t want to lug that idiot around.”

The Nexus guard in his boxers blinked, surprised, and looked down at his cuffed hands. “Where--Where am I? What happened?”

“Goodnight, Gracie,” the woman said, and kicked him in the head. He dropped like a sack of potatoes to the ground.

Sam thinks, The matter seems clear enough...perhaps I read too many comic books.

Aloud he says, both to confirm his theory and to explain to the others, "Psyche has the power of mind switching. The Female body is her native form, the male is her current host. Because the mind is switched, the other person is in control of her body while she controls theirs."

He wonders, If she is in a body with physical powers, like mine, can she control those powers...or are all powers really psychic and stay with the mind?

He adds aloud, "We had better be gone before they send out attack helicopters or something. I look forward to a full explanation, but I get the feeling that will take more time than we can spare just now."

Rob is more than a little unsettled. He had known about meta humans for a while. Hell his own ability to do whatever he wanted was pretty awesome, when it was working and he could be Volo. But this body switch thing was just strange, could she do that to him and force him to be locked in some useless body like a dog or something. Snapping out of it he says. "Okay, so now that we are getting the hell away from there we where promised some answers. I do not know what is in this for you, but I am grateful all the same. Thank you."

Looking around the van at the others he begins introducing himself. "I am Rob, for me this started when I was ambushed in an ally. Anyone of you know anything more useful you are willing to share?"

-jogs out behind Cailean, looks both ways on the road before jogging across, sees the group has already negotiated a van somehow, jogs up beside it and drops to the ground to look under it for any blinking lights like in all the movies.

if none spotted, she goes right to the front cup holders praying the guard had any kind of drink, if so, she chugs it.

else, rummages through the van looking for a cooler praying that has some relief in it.

Sam replies, "I am Samuel, though I generally go by Sam. I was in my workshop when someone started feeding gas into the place, that is about all I really know."

Granted, he managed to keep from breathing much of the gas, but he did not learn much by doing so.

Cailean climbs in the back of the van as introduction are being made.

"First off. The Nexus are a bunch of loons. They were in my house and shot my dad looking for me. Some sort of suit hit squad with automatic weapons."

"Second I ran." Looking at Rob, "Yeah ally ways are bad. I was in one when and then I woke up in the cell with you,"

"Third. I hope to heaven and the powers that be, that we did not get tagged with any sort of RFIDs. Or this little escape is going to end real quick."

Cailean goes quiet for a minute and then realizes, he did not give his name. "I am Cailean Blythe."

He sits back against the side of the van and situates himself over the axel of the van to keep his weight ditrubuted and even.

Listening to the old man ramble Rob cannot help but think what kind of a weirdo still lives with his dad at this guys age. He must be 50 years old and still lives with his dad? then when he mentions RFID trackers Rob thinks oh, crap. Did they do that. "RFID, dang I did not think of that. Anyone still have a phone? We can use the phone to see if there is an RFID on us. Hell, if my wishes where working I could just look for them. I hate it when they fail like this."

In a bundle in his arms are his clothes. Cailean finally realizes that he has them. He begins separating clothes.

His shoes fall to the ground. Roughly a size 8. Too small for his current size.

The jeans he unrolls are obviously mean for a thinner frmae than his. As he works on unrolling the pants, shell casing empty out of one of his pockets. The casing fall onto the van floor.

Cailean grabs the socks from inside his shoes and like a glove over one hand he collects all the casings he can find. The collected casings go into his other sock. He puts a knot in the sock and hangs the make shift bag from the waitsband of his prison jockey shorts.

He pulls out a tshirt, a medium on most teenage boys that has a picture of Maxim Dadeshev on it. Dadeshev has a wicked grin on his face as he is throwing a left cross during a boxing match. He lays the tshirt across his bear chest and realizes that he is seriously several sizes larger than that shirt. Hell maybe at his size now, he could fight Dadeshev himself.

Calien drapes the clothing over his very large and muscular thighs. The last item is his hoodie that advertises UFC 2019 on the front with a schedule of events for the year on the back. Again an article of clothing way too small for him now.

Cailean leans back against the side of the van and sighs. So much has changed.

She does pick up one of the shell casings that rolls across the floor of the van into her combat boot, and looks at the big guy speculatively. "They took your gun but left you the bullets?"

Doing so also turns her attention to his plight with the clothing. "So... growth spurt?"

"Great thing is, no fat of flab. That is pure muscle." He slaps himself on the belly with a solid "smack".

Rob listens to the giant share his situation. Poor kid, I guess not everyone gets cool powers. Maybe they could find a way to turn off his. But for now at least they are alive.

She paused, thinking back. "...kind of."

Flying hurriedly Jason barely misses a tree and sees everyone hoping into a Van not knowing better her flies as fast as he can into the van. He flies a little too fast not quite thinking about stopping until he is stopped by the other side of the van. Smacking into the wall amidst everyone talking. Quickly he reverts back to normal sitting on the floor. "Guys did you see it? I was a bird. It was so cool. Umm... who the hell are these guys?"

"Psyche has the power of mind switching. The Female body is her native form, the male is her current host. Because the mind is switched, the other person is in control of her body while she controls theirs,” Sam explained.

“Not...exactly,” the now female Psyche said, rolling her neck and stretching her limbs as she got used to the female body again. “Close.” She waved everyone into the van, ducking and wincing as Jason slammed into the wall and then reverted to teenage boy form. “I’ll explain while we drive.”

"Gee, that's not creepy, disturbing or utterly messed up, at all." Kat shook her head. "I take it none of the rest of you are down with Plan Take the Van, Leave the Creeps?"

“Of course it’s all of that,” Psyche said, leaving the unconscious Nexus guard lying in his boxers on the grass. “But it’s life for some of us. And do you even know where you are or where to go?” she pointed out to Kat.

"Okay, so now that we are getting the hell away from there we where promised some answers. I do not know what is in this for you, but I am grateful all the same. Thank you," Rob said.

“In it for me? A payday...and some payback,” Psyche said.

As the purple girl started rummaging around, Psyche said, “There’s a cooler. Fresh lemonade and more of those cookies and sandwich fixings, if you want. That blue Kool-Aid they put into you can leave you pretty dehydrated and hungry. And don’t worry about RFIDs. I took them out before I unplugged you from the Kool-Aid. They’re hidden under the mattresses in your cells.”

Psyche got behind the wheel and started up the van, pulling onto the access road and heading for the highway.

"Look, this is a lot to take in right now. Psyche, where are you taking us?” Constance asked.

“To someone who can get you home...eventually,” Psyche said. “He’s going to give you a sales pitch first. I suggest you listen and seriously consider it,” she said.

Once on the highway, Psyche started speaking again. “So now for a few answers. I’m not much older than all of you,” she said. “I’m twenty.” She looked more like twenty-five. “My dad worked for Anubis Security.

They also do personal protection for celebrities, security systems, etc. Everything from the local mall cop to government officials and celebrities.

“When I got my powers, I was thirteen. My dad freaked. A woman came to the house and she could help. They took me to a facility. There was this big machine, and I was strapped to a medical bed and they put electrodes on my head and things. They basically drilled my brain out, wiped it down to tabula rasa, just the basics so I wouldn’t piss and shit myself and could still breathe and move. The place was a complete living space. There were others, all as innocent as children, just like me, ranging up to about thirty years old. We had a strict regimen of exercise, diet, mental stimulation -- I especially liked coloring time. I was there for three years.”

Psyche took a turn, merging into traffic. “Sometimes we were taken to the chair again. Then we’d get let out. See, it wasn’t just for erasing minds. They could build them, too. Some rich schlub wanted a hot girl on his arm for a party, or maybe a boy toy, someone who wouldn’t say no. Just order it up. Wanted her to be feisty? They could put that in there. Wanted him to play piano? Just ask. Wanted a girl who could talk about 19th century French impressionists? Done. Made to order. It wasn’t just sex, though,” Psyche said. “You wanted someone to steal something? They’ll make you the perfect thief. Needed someone dead? An assassin, built to specs.”

Psych stopped at a red light. “Then they started using people like -- like us -- with powers. We brought good money, apparently. We were being trained to hunt others like us. They called us Hounds.

“Lucky for me, they were still perfecting the process on mutants. Apparently it didn’t work as well on psychics.” She shrugged. “I managed to, for lack of a better term, hide in my own head. Parts of me started to re-emerge. I’m still not sure which bits are me and which are pieces of programming, but I got away because a mission went sideways and I took a bullet to the chest. Bam! Dead. Well, at least my body. Turns out that activated one of my powers. My mind went dormant and didn’t die. Suddenly I found myself looking over my own dead body. Needless to say, I pretty much freaked out.

“So the guy who hired me helps people like us. He found me and helped me. So I owe him.

“So yeah, now I don’t have a body. This is Jenny.” Psyche fluffed her blonde hair. “She’s some kind of medical administrative assistant. Works in a doctor’s office. She’s just the Good Samaritan schmuck that was the first one to find my dead body, and I jumped in and took over.” She sighed. “So that’s why she was freaked out and tied up, because she goes to sleep when I’m home and doesn’t know what’s going on. I didn’t want her running off.”

Psyche turned in her seat. “I’m Chase, by the way,” she introduced herself. “Chase Meridian. But I guess I’m Jennifer Flint, too.”

Samuel's eyes automatically adjust to the light, his senses are better than normal as part of his powers.

He listens to the driver and summarizes, "So Chase is a walk-in free spirit and Jenny is the ghost host you work from. Have you found ways to communicate with Jenny...other than say recording messages and leaving notes for her? Have you tried to explain to her what is going on?"

It seems to Sam that you would want your host in the loop, It seems wrong to me to just regularly borrow someone's body without working out some kind of deal with them for share time.

Rob listened to the story and was grossed out. "So the government is running a ring of sex slaves, and people are okay with this? Why the hell where we not killing all those people? That dude you let go in his boxers he is in on this sex slave ring and helping! Should have killed him.

"They where going to do that to us, not just sell us back, but kill our minds and trap us as prisoners to sell for sex or battle!" Rob was feeling a little panicked. He was expecting going to the FBI would help, but if this was the government then that meant whoever they went to had a chance of being in on it. Rob slowed himself down a but. What is he talking about, he never killed someone, but man if someone needed killing it was sex traffickers.

Looking down Rob could see his hands where shaking, his whole body was starting to shake a little and he felt real cold. What the hell was this feeling. He tried to hide it from the others, sitting on his hands, but maybe they could still tell.

"Not the government," Constance said thoughtfully, "It's this company. But you have to think bigger. The government gives them work...it may or may not know the whole picture, but it's gotta be looking the other way or it'd find out."

"But think about it. If they can make brain-slave assassins or sex slaves...why not brain-slave politicians? Why not brain-slave...like...community organizers? It's all just skills people learn."

She slapped her forehead.

"Wow! Just...wow! We need...proof! Concrete evidence! Argh! We were THERE, we could have stolen something! All I have is a few PICTURES! We have to go back."

Looking around at everyone's faces she then turned defensive. "I mean, it doesn't have to be NOW, but at some point! This is way too out there to go public with until we have proof!"

Sam listens to Constance and responds, "It appears to take time to train people. It may also work best on the young, note that the oldest there was about thirty. Finally, Most of what is mentioned as training others for seems primarily physical or rote memorization. They might not be able to replace or reprogram a current politician or organizer, but they may be able to replace someone in a junior position who could learn by more normal means. If the people with this device have had it a long time there could be trouble with those in charge being controlled."

Sam assures himself, If someone in the political limelight were to vanish for years it would be noticed.

He adds, "I would be more worried about Bureaucrats though, they are pretty faceless as far as the public is concerned and their skill set would be easier to learn."

Sam considers, "How effective is it? For example, could a Muslim terrorist be reprogrammed to assassinate his leader and put back into his camp and no one notice he was any different until he does? Also, is it limited to people under thirty or was that just a convenience?"

If it is both fast and complete, then it could be used regularly with no one the wiser...assuming it works on everyone, Sam thinks that this could be a really big problem.

Kat passes other people drinks, and listens to Chase/Jenny's story for a bit. "You almost had my sympathy there, for a bit, until you admitted you've been stealing this woman's life in dribs and drabs so that you can have one. Don't see much difference from stealing someone's kidney. Why pick on some innocent woman? Now that you're out and working for this wonder-dude, why not just pick someone a bit more deserving, like that asshole we left back at the fence?"

When Chance suggests launching a raid on the facility, Kat shakes her head. "Are you freakin' nuts? My advice is that we play it chill, stay low and out of the line of fire. I'll think about becoming some sort of superhero when I'm twenty-five or something, maybe."

And as the conversation continues, she goes silent at Sam's most recent question. Or could they maybe have one superkid in a group be pre-programmed to call them if they ever escape with some others....

Still thinking about everything being said Rob's body is starting to calm down, and the fatigue is setting in from the adrenaline surge he had. The edgy chick has a point. "I agree with her." He says nodding his head in Hexx's direction. "I do not really know anything about fighting and killing. Seems like soldiers get all kinds of training and skills we do not have? The only real fighting I ever did was from getting beat up because I was poor.

"Hell, I have never even held a gun, let alone be able to fight soldiers and that chick with the super powers."
Looking at Chase he asks. "So does this guy have a way to train us or keep us alive? Because with lawyers being out of the question, moving to Peru and living low sounds pretty awesome."

Chance abruptly paused with a puzzled look on her face, and she stood up and reached into her back pocket...then drew out something. Something familiar.

A plastic bag half full of a weird blue liquid.

Her face lit up in sudden delight.

"Nevermind. We're good. I totally forgot I grabbed that before we got our stuff back."

She held the IV bag, now somewhat worse the wear after the chase and being sat on, but still intact, up for Chase and Psyche to see.

"You guys know what this is?"

Flashback
Previously, in The Next Generation:

"Food might be spiked," she replied to the other boy, who'd started asking questions. "And yeah, he...it's a long, weird and kind of pointless story."

She turned around to look at everyone. The girl working at the door seemed like she might be making headway, so Chance reached out to grab one of the IV bags, coiling the tube up around it and tucking the needle into the tube itself so it wouldn't accidentally puncture the bag. With no camera, she'd need physical evidence that this all happened.

"We're probably being listened to in here, so...lets just be careful what we say aloud, okay?"

utterly crestfallen shoulder slump looking in the cooler. bedraggled barely audible, "thanks."

get's a lemonade for hydration and crawls around people to a back corner.

"those guard clothes mighta fit better, big man." she doesn't know if they were left behind or are in the van, it was a very disconnected vague thought to nowhere.

gets to the back corner and sits, hugging herself, stares mostly forward at the opposite sidewall, but is listening to all the chattering, gripping her upper arms pretty tight at the talk of rebraining sex slaves and killing people.

she drinks the lemonade and folds up the trash but can't figure out where to put it. just holds it while hugging herself. sniffles. trembles. tries to hide it and be ignored.

Jason eagerly grabs a couple sandwiches and begins stuffing his face while everyone is talking. Occasionally chiming in mid chew. "umm..Did shhhhee say sex slave. Like how bad would ummm that be.. I mean we have all seen the moovieesh right." Taking more bites while still talking. "I mean I have definitely done the shex and itshh fun....I mean we all have right. Nothing wrong with that." He glances around the room a bit before diving back into his sandwich wishing he hadn't spoken aloud and hoping they believed him. When Hexx passes him a lemonade he looks down at it and drinks. Not chancing to look back at the rest of the people hoping they were not paying his question any mind. His nerves made him wish that he was a fly on the wall of the room and no one would see him. Then he was.

Sammy frowns at Jason, "You really do not want to know how bad it could be. I saw news reports about a raid on a place like that, and some of the survivors will need plastic surgery to cover the scars...and those were the lucky ones. Some people get off on hurting others."

He shudders, that report was not supposed to be seen by kids and he kind of wished he had not watched it himself. Sometimes curiosity is not a good thing.

“Do I look like a mad scientist to you?” Chase/Jenny asked. “I don’t know the details. I just know what it did to me. I figured they used young people because they’re hot. We were all attractive,” she said with a shrug.

"You almost had my sympathy there, for a bit, until you admitted you've been stealing this woman's life in dribs and drabs so that you can have one. Don't see much difference from stealing someone's kidney. Why pick on some innocent woman? Now that you're out and working for this wonder-dude, why not just pick someone a bit more deserving, like that asshole we left back at the fence?" Kat chimed in.

“Ah. Says the bodily privileged,” Chase said, giving Kat a look in the mirror. “Look, I didn’t ask to get a severe case of lead poisoning. I didn’t even ask to jump into Jenny’s body. It just happened. I’m here. I make due. Sucks to be Jenny. But she either stays asleep, or goes insane as she loses time and can’t figure out what’s happening to her.” Chase sighed. “And would you want to live your life as that jackass? You weren’t in his head. I was him long enough to know I need to take a scalding shower and scrape my skin raw.”

“If that’s what you want to do, he can help with that,” Chase said, taking a turn. “I’ll let him make the pitch.”

Chase made eye contact with Constance in the rearview mirror as the girl held up the half bag of blue liquid. “Yeah, that’s the stuff. Nice and docile, and no powers for twenty-four hours.”

As the teens started talking about sex slavery, Chase quieted down, turning onto another highway. It was late, and there was little traffic to interrupt her high beams as they lanced out at the road.

Kat just snorts at Chase's justification, obviously unimpressed with the logic there, and unwilling to be drawn into further conversation. Instead, she checks out the passing road-signs, seeing if she can get some sort of bead on where they are.

Rob turns his mind inward, trying to unlock his powers. This thing happens sometimes and he hates it when it does. Sometimes he gets his powers back once he calms down, other times it takes hours or even days.

Holding his palm out he concentrates on a dollar bill, at one point even quietly saying. "I wish I had a dollar." When Nothing happens he starts getting a little frustrated. Wit his powers he could travel the world, and do whatever he wanted, but like this. Like this he was trapped, and he hated being trapped.

Samuel says, "It is obvious, you are afraid that if your host knows about you, they might try to get rid of you. It still seems wrong to me to use someone's body without their permission. Are you able to just ride along, or do you have to be in charge when you are in there?"

Samuel thinks, If Chase can allow the host to be in charge, then working out a reasonable way to share time may be possible.

He is considering whether to let Chase use his body, but needs more information before making such a decision.

He asks, "Are there benefits to the host from you being in charge, such as is their mind resting and becoming refreshed? Can you and the host both do something at the same time, or does it have to be only one of you?"

“Are you able to just ride along, or do you have to be in charge when you are in there?" Sam asked.

“If I’m in here, it’s me,” Chase said. “The other just goes to sleep. Not a lot of options for a dead girl.”

"I don't need training. Just an on and off switch," Caelian said.

“Sure you don’t,” Chase said, rolling Jenny’s eyes, obviously not believing him. “But he can help you with that, too, if it’s possible. Sometimes it isn’t.”

They drove for about an hour through pretty lonely country. Here and there was light from a farmhouse or something. Toward the end of the hour, there were the lights of a small town, though chase avoided it, taking a country road to a small airfield. A sleek black craft that looked like some kind of cross between a Star Trek shuttlecraft and a B-2 stealth bomber sat on the runway in the dark.

As the van approached, a door opened in the craft, spilling light out into the darkness. Three figures emerged, climbing down the stairs that extended. Chase/Jenny parked so that the headlights illuminated them. In the center was a tall, thin, older man in a fine grey suit and carrying a cane. Beside him was a tall, broad shouldered man in his thirties, dressed all in black tactical gear. The third person was shorter, a woman of average height. She was in her mid-twenties and had pale alabaster skin that seemed to glow in the headlights, red hair with a white forelock and streaks of blonde in it. She wore jeans and a comfortable white blouse and smiled brightly, giving a little wave.

“Okay, end of the line. Everyone out,” Psyche said, turning around to look at the kids in the back.

-unfolds at the back to look across at what everyone else is looking at ahead of the van. taps shoulder and whispers to the ones she's closest to, intent on chase not hearing-

"shield up, right side."

-she let's herself out the back or some such, casually, quick eyeball what's out behind them, then dashes out about 10' to the right side of the van and drops a force wall, with a gap between it and the van for all of them to slip through if they got out ahead. slight curve, full team big, herself crouching hands forward 'holding' it. (giant horseshoe wall with the opening towards the van if she spots a threat behind)-

Getting out Rob is alert and watching. While trapped with little choice at the time, he is still very unsure of the situation. Although he is willing to listen to the man. No way to figure much out right now and unused to this type of stress Rob waits without speaking. The man has a pitch and he wants them bad enough to bring them here. So Rob will let him say what he has to say.

Constance surreptitiously checked her phone's battery and memory as everyone started filing out of the van. She'd been sneakily taking terrible-quality shots the whole trip, and there wasn't a lot of juice left in it. Almost as little reception as there was clear out here.

What had happened after they were taken? What about her mom? Was she okay? Did everyone she knew think she was dead?

Answers were coming, but she doubted those ones were...and it hurt to think about them.

Even so, she piled on out...only to blink in confusion when one of the other girls, the one who could make force fields, ran out and put up a shield like she was expecting to get gunned down.

It didn't seem to Constance like that was really on the menu here and now. Not that the big dude wasn't kinda scary looking.

She returned the redhead's wave.

"Hey. So...uh...thanks for getting us out of there? And, having said that...what do you guys want with us?"

The drive was about an hour.
“Very impressive, Miss Walker,” the old man said as the semi-visible force field went up to protect them as they got out of the van. “Good tactics, and you seem to have good control of that aspect of your abilities. Mr. Marks, welcome.” He nodded to Rob. “And you as well, Miss Abels.” He seemed to give Constance a special smile. “I am glad to see you all seem to be in good health after your little ordeal.” He spoke with an indescribable accent, a bit Greek, a bit educated British.

"Hey. So...uh...thanks for getting us out of there? And, having said that...what do you guys want with us?" Constance said.

“Only to aid you,” the old man said. “Now that Nexus knows about you. I want to offer you my protection and guidance as you develop and grow into your abilities, as well as a world class education and training with those abilities. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Dr. Paul Helios, president of the Helios Academy in Chicago. These are my associates, Mr. Caleb Black, my head of security,” he nodded to the man beside him who definitely looked ex-military, “And Miss Tamar Todd, my Director of Residence Life.” He indicated the redhead on his other side.
Common Knowledge
You’ve heard of the Helios Academy. It is an elite private college preparatory academy and boarding school. A good showing there pretty much writes your ticket to any university, and alumni are everywhere in society.
“Were the sandwiches still good?” the woman asked. “I promise to get you a good, home-cooked meal when we get back! If you’re still hungry, I have more sandwiches, cookies, and lemonade inside the plane.” She smiled brightly. “But you’re probably all exhausted and want to sleep. You can do that, too,” she promised.

Chase exited the van and walked over to Dr. Helios.

“I trust everything went smoothly, Psyche?” he asked.

Chase shrugged. “Well enough,” she said.

“Very good. The amount agreed upon has been wired to your account.”

“Thanks, Doc,” Chase said, flipping back her hair. “You have my number if you need anything else.” Leaving the van, she headed toward a nearby black Dodge Charger.

Kat listens as the folks outside the van start talking. She does blink in surprise at the mention of the Helios Academy--it was kind of a point of resentment among her street peers, just another way for the Snobs to be able to make sure their kids got the golden ticket for being in the lucky sperm club. Her interest in becoming one of the Snobs is pretty much nil. But Chicago... a big city, lots of places a girl could disappear, there. Of course, that leaves one final issue....

She steps out from the van, then, and moves into position behind Bubbles and her wall. Then she calls out her own question. "And a private boarding school is going to protect us from a government conspiracy how, exactly? I mean, what's to stop them from sending in the goon squad again? They've got numbers and gear--I don't care how good GI Joe there is at shooting his load, if the Spooks want us, Gramps, I doubt he'd be more than a speed-bump."

She pointedly ignores the way her stomach growls at the mention of food.

Rob still knows he should hold back. But he has never been all that subtle. "Training huh, Well what about our families? Are yougoing to be able to get my mom and make sure she is safe or is she out there waiting for a brain washed thug to kill her?

"If you can protect my mom, I will accept what you are offering. If not, I need to get out of here and find her fast."

-trembles, target's splitting up. yeah she's heard of helios, but when did they start collecting freaks? sure all those rich kids might be pretties, but what does that mean for haggrid and herself? that hour to rest her joints was also an hour to overdwell. she can't stop seeing those bodies crunching into trees and dropping like ragdolls that didn't get back up-

-sniffles, trembles, gritting her teeth, closer side hand shoots out and she imagines a bubble around the charger before psyche get's there-

-tears on her cheek, that still-slightly-in-shock small broken voice- "y- you stay till w-we s-s-say so .. one of us m" -sniffle- "might need a ride home. . i already k-k" -grits her teeth mumbling trying to stop talking, sniffles-

Sam may sympathize with Psyche's plight, but her solution he can not agree with. Stealing someone's life because someone else stole yours is not a case of two wrongs making a right. He can not think of a solution, well he can think of one, but he can not trust her to abide by it. Someone could offer to share time with the free spirit, but as she would be the dominant persona in any pair, that means she gets to select when to be in charge. If she has not found a way to even inform her host that she is there, it is difficult to trust her willingness to abide by any agreement.

Sam says, "Greetings Dr. Helios. As I see it, we have two bad choices here. First, we can go back to where we just escaped from...because going home probably amounts to the same thing. That would mean trusting someone who kidnapped us, whether or not we believe the story of the brainwashing device. The second choice is trusting you: and that means trusting you to keep the government, or whatever branch of it sanctions the group that kidnapped us, from kidnapping us again. Additionally, that means trusting that your intentions are not similarly sinister. Frankly, there seems a fair chance that this whole rescue thing was a setup to make us more cooperative."

He thinks, I can see a few ways he can possibly protect us. He could make us so public that any attempt to touch us would garner the attention that any secret group would want to avoid. He might change our looks and create new identities for us, though how long that would hide us I am uncertain. The third possibility is that he has connections as high as those of the other group, enough influence they dare not attack him, but not enough that he could crush them. Let him explain his plans, he will do so if he wants us to cooperate I think.

Sam ignores Miss Todd, he has to so as to keep from stammering and putting his foot in his mouth making that speech.
