After the Explosion, Benny Opportunity, to be awarded Jan 1st for 1Q18

This side story is yours, the Player, to write, much like a Interlude. Both BC and 13th are welcome to participate.

You do not have to do it, and its not as complicated as a Interlude. No Rolls needed, just write your Player Characters view on the following:
The details
No one can agree on what they felt, or what the Annihilating missiles destructive force looked like. Some say the world went Topsy Turvey and all sideways, others say it was a purple gout of hell-fire that consumed everything. The shields of the hotel/space-craft held back the worst of it. The one constant thread is that everyone, Player Characters, NPCs, wakes up on the floor, inside the lobby, and comes to their senses after about an hour. If you feel like providing a description and emotional thought as to what the Annihilating spell looked like and felt (or what you maybe dreamed about while unconscious) please go ahead and then take a bennie for the new quad after posting. Note: Alecto might have spent her time interfacing/talking to the AI as she is "not" alive and does not dream.

Scara’s Tower… Rene’s words thrummed through Jude’s mind as he lugged Geist and Vick up the street toward the safety of the hotel and its force field. Tesse had mentioned that name, that it was a Scara who had done...whatever had been done to her.

Jude flashed a smile toward the crowd as they cheered when he crossed into the field. He looked up to see Diamond Clad limping toward him.

“Is Crystal--” Jude began, but the older techno-wizard was staring at Geist as Jude dropped her to the ground.

"Strange clothes, a bit military, but what is this symbol?" Diamond asked.

Jude blinked. Wait, that wasn’t the Geist he had pulled from the wreckage, was it? He recalled a shimmer of light, looking through it, seeing...the castle? With a CS banner waving from the pinnacle? He hadn’t had time to really consider anything.

“It can wait,” Jude said.

Jude dropped Geist and Vick. He turned around, racing back through, just as the world went to hell. He was thrown back through the force field again, but not before the energies of the Annihilation spell tore through his armor. He hit the ground hard, rolling over with a groan of pain as the world slowly narrowed into a black tunnel and went out.

Jude snuck quietly through the corridor, peering around the corner. The little girl was there, oblivious. He grinned.

“Argh!” Jude yelled as he raced across the room at the girl.

She spun around, surprised, but brought up her laser rifle quickly, pulling the trigger. The lights on Jude’s harness lit up and buzzed, indicating he was hit, even as he tackled the younger girl to the ground, straddling her.

“I’m the evil D-Bee! I’m going to suck your brains!” he growled, his fingers finding her sides, tickling.

Nicole squealed, writhing beneath her older brother. “You’re dead! I shot you!” she protested, laughing.

“Your puny gun is no match for my D-Bee powers!”

“How about if I use my boom gun?” Nicole pantomimed hefting a big gun on her shoulder.

Jude’s eyes widened. “No! Not a boom gun!”

Nicole made a big explosion noise and Jude threw himself backward off of her, crashing into the couch.

“Stop horsing around! You’ll break something!” their mother yelled from the kitchen.

“Sorry, mom!” Jude called, getting up and helping his little sister up. “Good shooting, soldier.”

Nikki beamed. “Of course! No D-Bee can match a Coalition soldier! They’re too stupid.”

Jude chuckled. “And smelly,” he reminded her.

Nikki grinned, and then her eyes widened. “Oh! Slopps is on!” she exclaimed, rushing toward the holo-vid.

Jude groaned. “Do we have to?” he asked. He’d outgrown the silly children’s show. “I’d rather watch Rude Ranch. Or Into the Flames.” Jude sighed. “Rachel is so hot…”

Nikki pulled a face. “What is it with you and naked girls?” she asked.

Jude shrugged. “We could play Silent Commandos,” he suggested.

“Ooo! The new expansion just came out, too!” Nikki said. “I’ll kick your butt!”

Jude sighed. “You always do, Nik.” He smiled and gave her a hug. “I’m glad you’re back from junior boot camp. I missed you. No one to play with.” He kissed her forehead.

Nikki pulled a face and pushed her brother away. “That’s not what Brittany said. She said you two spent a lot of time together.”

Jude blushed. “I was just...helping her out…”

“Yeah, out of her shirt…” Nikki punched Jude in the arm.

The explosion that hit the team shocks Humble, whatever it was hurt him in a way that was not healing. Worst of all as he looked on into the darkness his attention was drawn up to the points of light in the distance. He always had a bond with them for reasons he could not explain, no matter what world he was on, or where he was enslaved there was always a point in the sky sometimes even two that he could feel himself being watched from and on this world the interest from that point had drawn in sudden focus on this battle as if it were something of great importance. Both of those great lights had focused down on him, the brighter more intense red that always watched him and the paler mild white light beyond that seemed only to care when he was victorious. His normally poor sight magnified as he could clearly see them as if they were standing adjacent to one another. Often time during battle Humble would see the beings that he identified with watching him, though he did not understand their interest he had once been told their names by another for they were war and death. But never so intently did he feel there attention on the battlefield as he did during the unleashing of that great and evil spell. In the moment here as the spell climaxed the entirety of his field of view outside of the force field went blacker than the night sky with only the two clearly seen. The rest of the field of battle was filled with the siphoning of souls in a great spiral off into the darkness beyond the red brother closest to him and into the blood stained white watcher beyond.
Humble enjoyed battle, much more than most even. But when so many innocents where involved it frustrated and angered him. Many of those who died in this city where too young to know battle or to have been properly placed in it.

When his body was knocked out, Hans's consciousness was still awake, but travelling through alternate realities. In one, he was a cyberdoc. In another, he was the captain of a UWW Privateer ship that raided for the profit of the UWW. In yet another, he was the king of his own small planet in the UWW; one that he ruled with an iron fist. In yet another, he was a penniless wanderer that gave all he earned to those in need. In another, he was a legendary intergalactic bounty hunter known for taking in the most dangerous bounties. These are just a few of the lives Hans lived while he jumped from one self to another, propelled through the alternate dimensions by the mix of the energies released by his work on the Force Field Projector and those released by the Annihilating missiles that leaked through the force field.

It was the pain of his body that eventually brought him back. Pain from the burns that the energies tampering with the Force Field Projector released through his body. Pain that formed the bridge between his mind and his own body.

Another mind follows him back for a second before going back to its own body...

It happened again. I'm two for two when it comes to destroying cities, Carlos thinks to himself as he looks at the desolation. Sitting in the hotel lobby, staring out the window he drains what little remains in his flask in one go. Then looks over at the destroyed bar, Just when you think things can't get any worse.

Sighing he stares out the window, his mind a thousand miles away in a d-bee town no one ever heard of and now one will ever here of. He burnt it off the map. Dwellings, people - he could admit they are people not, of a sort - everything consumed in hot plasma. Like the demons he claimed to protect earth from, Carlos Caravello breathes fire and brings death. I am a demon. I am death.

Instinctively, he brings his empty flask to his lips. Realizing, again, it is dry he slowly lets it fall to his side and just stares out the window. His mind eyes blank and his mind full of dark thoughts.

I am a demon. I am death.

Fingering the empty flask he sighs, I need a drink.

Alecto is standing near the console she's ripped open, huddling over her jury-rigged interface to the vessel's controlling AI. The pods are returning back en-masse, precious living cargo on board. Escape pods in reverse, bringing people out of the fire, into the frying pan.

She is evicted from the system. Refocusing onto the physical world, she sees the last stragglers, the ones who hadn't been near enough the pods to get on one, running for the shield perimeter.

She is seeing time restart. The rockets resume their downward movement. They blossom into flame that is not yellow and white and orange, but roiling shades of green. There are glimpses of faces twisting in the cloud of expanding...something. The hotel's shield buckles and twists under the assault. It holds back the physical damage, but something else gets through.

Everyone inside the hotel drops like a puppet with its strings cut. Everyone except for one.

Alecto remembers a planet of ice. A creature like a shadow of frost. The cold had worn her down, but it had reached into her for a soul and found nothing.

Something like an EMP ripples through the air. Breakers trip, cutting her delicate 'brain' off from her main power source. She floats in a void of sensory deprivation, but is not unconscious.

It's as if time has stopped again for her. Reinitializing is automatic, there's nothing she can do to hurry it up. There's time to think.

What is it, Alecto wonders, that the ice creature and this bomb strike at? Spirit and soul. The words have a technical definition, but she finds it insufficient to explain the apparent importance of them. To possess such an immaterial body was the difference between person and object for many. Such a strange and tenuous thing to make such a crucial judgement on the basis of which.

The world returned, her power systems successfully restarting after the brief flash interruption.

Alecto moved to the nearest fallen, knelt down, made sure she was breathing.

Was having something as fragile as a soul really so important?

As Libertas reaches the border of the barrier, the blast goes off behind him; if it weren't for the fact that he still clutched the newly made staff (which drew off some of the excess), he'd surely have died. As it is, as he's slid forward on the ground by the force of the blast, he can feel his blood turn to sludge in his veins, and his breath grows acrid and his lungs fill with rancid vapors.

As he lays there, unconscious, he has a vision... A terrible figure, moving through a plain of ash and dust. She pauses over him, and nods. "You don't seem eager to stay, Boy. Perhaps we can come to an arrangement." The rest of the conversation is lost to his memory, though he knows he ultimately agreed....

I swear, that looked like a cat in the sky. Big. Big as the sky. A miserable housecat the size of a planet. And it glared directly at me. It was angry that it couldn't reach me behind the shield. Behind the shield Nadine held strong. One missile. A thousand. The sight wavered as time and space fractured and fluctuated and undulated like angry waves on an angrier ocean. They reminded me of projectile hairballs of hate and bile and hell. If there's a hell, cats run it, and this was the chief demon, spitting hairballs of hellfire down at me. At the shield. At the town. Burning everything. Melting everything. Utter destruction. The ancient hate of cat vs. dog, played out in the heavens, and there we are, all of us in the ship, just trying to ride the ball of yarn thrown back and forth by a miserable feline. But...Nadine? Not my robot. HER. She fought back against the cat. Is she how I ended up on this floor?

Max awakes with a start. "Whatever they put in my drink, bloody rifted hell, don't ever feed me that again."

Gargamel's species were very sensitive to ghosts and Gargamel had always found he could see them, even when he didn't want to. It was a curse and a gift, one that he was better off without.

The colours from Geist's weapon flowed over the shield but he did not see them. All he could see were the victims, the dead swirling around in the colours. Were they real or just some bizarre accumulation of all the energies?

He attempted to discern their faces but all he could see was the howling of their mouths before he passed out on the floor.


In his dreams, he awoke in a wood, alive with the sound of bird song, a gentle breeze whistling through the leaves.

He stood up and wandered aimlessly enjoying the sights and sounds before he found himself in front on a familiar rock formation in the middle of a clearing

"Wake up you fool, you have work to do!"

The missiles go off and Jitters watches as the blast wave heads for him, the flames a mixture of swirling blues, greens, and ultra-violet. The blast wave seems to be moving in ultra slow motion, letting Jitters initially believe that he was going to have all the time in the world to get to safety, until he realized what horrified him the most, he couldn't move. His eyes were able to dart around at normal speed, and his heart was beating at 10,000 miles a minute, making him think that this wasn't just an altered perception of time that some people get, but something far worse (at least to him). He stood mere inches outside of the protective energy field, but was unable to move a muscle. Jitters looked back to the blast wave to see that it had changed and taken on the form of a herd of rampaging sloths, with one hitting Jitters square in the groin, knocking him back behind the energy field and into the hotel lobby where he hit is head and passed out.

Cantrell turns her head just as the missiles hit, the sensors in her helmet shutting down to avoid being fried. She hears the roar of a wave that seems like it could drown the whole world, then she's flying head over heels, end over end as she falls down into a dark abyss.

Then she falls through a pane of glass, then another, except it's not glass but pools of water. And she's not falling, she's spinning, crashing one after another through glass/water, sight lost in the dark void. Then she spots a light, and realizes she's not merely spinning, but orbiting something. As panes of glass/water crash over her, she points her head toward the light and starts to swim.

As she gets closer she sees it's a crack, or a tunnel. Light like a sun streams from behind a figure wedged in the crack like a rock climber. She stops spinning, close enough to the center that "gravity" takes her, and the figure turns.

Bane looks back at her, his face betraying the tremendous strain he's under, holding himself in place as the temporal void tears at him.

Cantrell! Can you hear me? You must listen! he screams, his voice fading in and out, seeming to grow near and far from second to second. The forces unleashed in ... too much for ... Threads will tear and unravel ... knotted back ...

Bane's scowl deepens as he tries to make himself understood.

There are things ... use the knots to come through ... have to stop it. You must go to Dweomer ... stone, and retrieve the Valent Blade. It can cut the Threads, isolate this plane, this Earth from the rest. You'll also need the ... Dunscon may have it, or one of his lieutenants ... not been seen since the insurrection. It must not be revived.

Bane looks at her, unblinking, as the energies infusing this place seem to tear at the edges of his form.

You can stop it, Cantrell. Stop all this mucking around, let each time-stream exist on its own, for good or ... what will happen to anyone caught away from their Prime. I ... accept.

Without warning, Cantrell feels the center of gravity shift again, and she's falling backwards. Bane's voice trails after her.

I will hold it as long as I can.

Samson floats through the air, flaming purple like the darkest abyss propelling him like a shot from a slugthrower towards the shield. Cold fire. It claws at your soul. It won't take no for an answer. It'll claim every life it touches. Samson is already halfway to the pit, and no rescue can be had.
Some creature...almost transparent, maybe? Something otherworldly. It IS the shield. It stares into his soul. As the flames lick at his back, this being coalesces into a different shape. A dark suit of armor. Huge. Powerful. A guardian. It stands proof against the annihilation of the soul and obliteration of the body. The shape looks like a glitter boy, but, it can't be. It's dark. It's something else.
As the missiles rain down, turning everything into slag, both body and soul, this creature defies the utter destruction. Anyone who can reach the safety of this protector's abode will survive.
But Samson gets a different response.
The defiant shape, this protector, raises its hand and points directly at Samson's core. It reaches into his very soul.
You.
Waking from the destruction and the chaos of his dream, Samson looks around and sees a scattering of bodies in the lobby, many of them matching ones in his dream. No more midnight meals for me. That was too real!

    One less Castle Refuge for Lord Coake to hide at. One more savage Legion destroyed entirely. Every reality with a Castle Refuge in it, anywhere Lord Coake might hide, they would all be destroyed over time. As the Raider stood in the raining ash he allowed his vision to go deeper into the Castle, to see his strike force.

    It had been a suicide mission in sorts, which warmed the Raiders heart. Only one of the Temporal Warrior students was walking down a burning hallway. The one called Cade. Nodding the Raider chuckled. Three lost students, one who was graduating and would be useful to his future plans of destroying every reality with the Future Brigade in it.

    Allowing his vision to return to normal the Raider waited. As the Castle burned and all those who were a part of it died, one human man, Cade made his way back to his Temporal Raider Master. Arriving through the storm of fire he opened fire on the Master.

    As magically enhanced Iron rounds struck his armor the Raider laughed loudly. The betrayal had been expected. Especially from this trickster Cade. As the human continued to fire at him, the Raider simply walked towards Cade. Out of ammo Cade dropped the gun. "One day I will escape you Master t'Fethic."

    "I expect so, for I have seen a day when you are torn away from me, but that day is not today. I have also seen a day where we work as one. For now, return to Hades Base and I will instruct you more later."


    Shaking Cade bowed his head.


    Cade had survived killing thousands today.


    t'Fethic smiled.


    "A good day for us indeed."
