Krysesia's Amazonian Officer Battle Cloak (Sig Item for Krysesia)

Post by High Command »

Krysesia's Amazonian Officer Battle Cloak (TW) - Signature Item
Upon returning home and assisting Manoa in its time of crisis, Krysesia was presented with this cape along with an honorary commission in the city's Amazon Defense Forces. It was designed originally for officers of the Amazonian Defense Forces of Manoa. It is the sign of a tactician and leader. She accepted it with pride, wearing it proudly with the new Battle Armor that had been made for her. Those serving under such a leader tend to draw her attention to events happening on the field, giving her greater awareness of the situation.
The cloak is also based on the one issued to all Amazons in Manoa, which dissipates or retains heat as appropriate to the environment. Important when dealing with both the jungles and mountains of South America. It adds a +4 bonus to rolls versus Cold or Heat, +2 to Toughness, as well as the Command, Command Presence, and Natural Leader Edges. It also has a small PPE battery with 5 PPE in it (which may be recharged on a ley line at 5 PPE per hour or by any character with the ability to use TW gear). (2 lb.,213,000 credits, TW Gear)

Master Ionicus was a True Atlantean Shifter and famed Monster Hunter from Manoa. He was also one of the most skilled user of the Monster Shaping Tattoo. He used to to reconnoiter and learn about a wide variety of monsters, but especially vampires. His seminal work is the Guide to Megaversal Mechanics and Creatures, a scholarly work available both in abridged and complete versions that is considered one of the most referenced books when dealing with dimensional travel, common and uncommon monsters, and more. For years his original travel logs were lost. They were recently found by a student of one of his more successful proteges - Master Leonasta. This man was Krysesia's mentor and after she helped save Manoa from an invasion, he gifted it to her, happy to see it in the hands of someone worthy of adding to its lore. So it is that she writes her own notes in the margins, her neat tight words often at odds with the swirling grand writing of Master Ionicus.

Despite its age, this rugged book capable of withstanding the shock of running around and trying not to die in a Mega-Damage world. This book provides a +2 bonus on Academics, Battle, or Occult rolls. The bonus also applies to any Research rolls for recalling history or similar research.
Additionally, by studying its extensive notes and appendices, the user can use the Monster Slayer and Vampire Killer edges. It is mounted on a flying gimble that is also a search assistant. By stating what the user is looking for, it will open it to a page the subject is on. It also allows the book to hover in front of the user and will follow them as they move around the world. The body of the device that holds the book has a built in 10 PPE battery in the shape of an ankh, the universal holy symbol of life. Kind of feels like a enchanted item more than a TW item. But losing 2 abilities would be frustrating so I can see leaving it as TW.

Scholar only applies to one skill each time selected. But otherwise as written I am okay with it.
  • 2D6 EFFECT
2 Catastrophe: Something goes terribly wrong. The GM must decide what, but some ideas are a new and permanent Minor Hindrance, the inability to use powers for several days, or an explosion of some sort. The backlash should be thematic if possible. If the hero tampers with dark forces for his abilities, for example, he might become corrupted or summon something sinister into the world. If he’s a weird scientist the device might explode for 3d6 damage in a Medium Blast Template, or he might develop a Quirk, Phobia, or other “madness.”

3 Backfire: The power succeeds as with a raise but affects a different target with the worst possible results. A bolt hits a random friend, boost Trait increases an enemy’s skill or attribute, etc. If there’s no likely target, he’s Stunned instead. If the power has a Duration other than Instant, it lasts its full term and can only be negated by dispel (the caster can’t voluntarily end it herself).

4–5 Short Circuit: The power fails but the Power Points allocated to it are spent, along with an additional 1d6 Power Points.

6–8 Stunned: The caster is Stunned (see page 106). She subtracts 2 from arcane skill rolls for the rest of the encounter (the penalty remains –2 even if she gets this result again).

9–10 Overload: The character’s synapses crackle and overload with power. He takes 2d6 damage plus the cost of the power in Power Points, including any Power Modifiers the player declared.

11 Fatigue: The character suffers Fatigue.

12 Overcharge: The power draws ambient energy from the air, automatically succeeding against the target with a raise and costing the caster no Power Points!

Well the idea is the search function (represented by Scholar) and the book holder is a piece of "AI" like technology/techno-wizardry, but trapped as a search enchantment. I removed the extra +2 to Occult from Scholar, so it's +2 to Academics, Battle, and Occult. Stats above are updated.

Sounds good, although I think the grade adds to all research related rolls where the book can be used, so it would not be limited to those three skills. Should instead be listed as +2 to research as an un-bulleted line in the computer description or under the computer, something like the following...

For decades his original travel logs and final draft were lost.

Thie text of the book provides a +2 bonus on Academics, Battle, or Occult rolls. Additionally, by studying its extensive notes and appendices, the user can use the Monster Slayer and Vampire Killer edges.
  • • Vampire Killer: Vampire Killers are +2 on Occult, Notice, and Survival checks regarding vampires.
    • Monster Slayer: Make an Occult Roll to identify the creature. If successful, your advice grants allies a +1 bonus to Trait rolls versus such creatures until the end of the encounter. On a raise, the target’s special abilities of note (if any) are revealed, and the bonus to Trait rolls is increased to +2.
One of the more odd and innovative additions to the book is its research assistant. A small crystal skull mounted on an body with an ankh (a holy symbol for those following the agnostic faith of life, common among True Atlanteans) on its back (facing out) with a pair of spindly arms (for searching and holding pages open) and a set of much stronger arms that hold the book itself. This magical research assistant, known as Gnosi (pronounced No-see), will only allow authorized personnel to use the book and its search functions. The user simply speaks the name of the magical assistant, and the subject they wish to know about. It will then provide read or spoken prompts, refining the search until it can find a specific page or pages. Gnosi has a strength of d4 (enough to lift the book) and matches the pace of its user once they are authorized. Gnosi also provides +2 to resist attempts to unauthorized access the book and +2 all relevant research rolls. Gnosi will also hover in front of the user in either a read or write position, allowing the user complete access to the book in the direst of circumstances. Gnosi requires 1 PPE per hour of use. The body of Gnosi holds a 10 PPE Battery that recharges 5 PPE per hour.

Based on actual costs of edges, and a need to reconfigure, I'm going with this instead.

Hum,
If you are going to have other command edges then you will need Command itself as your own edge. Remember edges in items cannot be the prerequisite to personal edges, but the opposite is not true, so if you have Command personally you can have all kinds of edges in the cloak that require command.

Also unless you playing in someone else's game also Natural Leader is a waste of text. I do not require it in my games.

It adds a +4 bonus to rolls versus Cold or Heat, +2 to Toughness, increases Spirit by one die type, as well as the Command Presence and Hold the Line Edges. It also has a small PPE battery with 5 PPE in it (which may be recharged on a ley line at 5 PPE per hour or by any character with the ability to use TW gear). (2 lb.,213,000 credits, TW Gear)

2000 - Temperature Cloak +4 bonus to rolls versus Cold or Heat (2 lbs)
500 - Base Conversion
5000 - +1 Toughness
5000 - +1 Toughness
5000 - 5 PPE
10000 - +1 DT Spirit
50000 - Command Presence -2
50000 - Hold the Line
142,000 credits, -8 Rarity
213,000 after labor
Works for me, just add 500 for base conversion price on the Cloak and you are golden I think.
