Background:
Today vitiligo is publicly recognized. A world with different appearances is more normalized. But the digital age also brought bullying right to every child's bedroom. The story that a black mother and white father are why she's got two tones only worked so far. Shanice needed grounded self confidence, and even her devoutly religious parents know religion wasn't enough.

Sports: pure sweat, fitness, competition, exertion, anger management, sportsmanship, trusting others, setting and accomplishing goals, literal and figuratively. Eventually teamwork got most kids over their discomforts. She had sportsmates, then friends, and then even a real friend or two.

There were bullies outside sports and school, though, and her military dad and zero-nonsense mother kept her constantly training self-defense. She's as desperate as any crushing teen for romance, but she has been acutely educated that slick-tongued, grabby-handed boys equating a fake compliment to a free blowjob and bragging rights aren't the 'acceptance' she needs.

In the life she barely gets to live outside the social olympics, she's a sci-fi nerd and digs science. She actually enjoyed sports physics, sports biology, and sports medicine, which she had her share of injuries to practice on. English and Spanish were home, French sounded cool and got her away from the Spanish teacher she hated, and ASL and combat signs were her dad's idea for silent communication on the field (rather than just for interacting with other medical outcasts.)

Deep into overtime, final soccer game for the championship, crowds, cheering, everything on the line, a chance to be a hero, the midfielder/winger that saved the day, she had to jump to headbutt the hopelessly out of reach ball. The next moment she's so far passed it she's scrambling to kick it away with her foot instead. Then she's still tumbling and disoriented and the cheers are turning to screams. In a blink the momentum is gone and she's falling from almost as high as the lights, and now the sounds are mixed with silence and gasps. She was blacking out, but barely got her arms out in front of her to shield the impact. Her last thought was confusion why her hands matched her uniform.

Obviously the team was disqualified because they had an undeclared mutant on their team so clearly it was obviously a rigged advantage the entire season. She was welcome to stay with the team and school as long as she didn't actually intent to accept the offer to stay on the team or in the school. The wounds from the fall healed. The wounds from the betrayal of 90% of her socialscape did not.

Her mother planned on homeschooling her for 8th grade, but job and logistics erased that quickly. She's finished 7th grade but spent the year after growing into her body and her powers, learning how to fly and learning how to fight. Her mentors were youtube, anime, mangas, the library, documentaries and sci-fi. Now, though, it's time for her to rejoin society, for lots of reasons.

The body of her force powers are very faintly visible. Any reactionary, refractive, and residual colors are faint purple ripples. Vi of The Incredibles ish esque, though much lighter.
