Weird Science Update

Glim-Tech devices work the same way as Arcane Devices in SWADE.

Ancient Artefacts are Arcane Devices, though the effects increase a step for their respective Power. This means an Ancient Artefact with bolt starts of at 3d6 damage rather than 2d6 as in SWADE, Power Modifiers are adjusted accordingly. They have 10 Power Points which recharge at the normal rate.

Unstable: When extra Power Points are spent with an Ancient Artefact for Power Modifiers, the extra Points increase the Critical Failure range by 1.

For example; Power Modifier that costs 2 PP would increase the Crit Failure threat range to 1-3 on any die.

Also, the extra PP spent count as a penalty on the activation roll.

Edges

Looking at scrapping the current Edges and replace them with the following.

Overcharge

Requirements: Seasoned, Weird Science d8+

Once per day make a Weird Science roll to increase the number of PP you have, gaining 1 extra PP for a success and each raise. These extra PP are lost when they are spent.

Steady As She Goes

Requirements: Seasoned, Science d6+, Weird Science d8+

Your understanding of how Ancient technology works has given you some insight into compensating for the temperamental nature of such devices. Your character gets a free re-roll on activating Ancient Artefacts.

Ancient Master

Requirements: Veteran, Steady As She Goes

Your growing expertise on Ancient Artefacts enables you to work round the degrading effect of time has had on such devices. You can now ignore the Unstable rule for Ancient Artefacts and such devices now only malfunction on a roll of 1 on either die.

I would probably express this as a negative to the activation roll and not an increased target number. Seems more Savage to do it that way.

While mathematically not much different it will allow edges that offset penalties to matter.
