Chai Son - CS Recruit - Background

Post by LoJack »

Background

‘Burbs of Lone Star

His parents named him something else entirely and had high hopes and prospects for him being a respectable member of the CS community in Lone Star. But culture can often out weigh family and the young Thai boy found himself in with other Thais his age on the streets of the Lone Star ‘burbs. While his Thai parents had registered him under his given name with CS officials, he had left his family and his old name behind and became known as Chai Son by his gang brothers and sisters.

Chai learned early that he had a knack for creating things. He made copies of art and signatures in his free time. If he saw a new piece of art, or a scene that captured his fancy, he would memorize it and then later recreate it in his free time and with what ever resources were available. His brothers and sisters would bring him various pieces of paper to copy, Chai never knowing what the papers were. So he began his early years working in forgeries and copies.

When he was fourteen, he was approached by a senior brother and asked to work on replicating some official Lone Star CS documents. Chai pointed out the signature and fingerprints as well as the time validation. As he was completing the copies of the documents with new names and identifications on them, he had the thought to create one for himself. Call it a hunch or maybe it was his first actual scheme. Month later when the documents were ready, a group of senior brothers showed him the last pieces to finish the documents, one very roughed up CS recruiter.

Presented with the ID, signatures, and fingerprints of the recruiter, Chai produced his last first official CS documents. Promptly several senior brothers left for service in the CS Army. Chai had handed over all the copied documents but his. This he held onto, figuring he might need it.

Word hit hit the streets several months later that the CS was raiding the Thai ‘Burbs. Apparently the missing CS Recruiter had been linked back to the ‘Burbs. While the senior brothers had not returned there had also been no word that they had died or been imprisoned. Chai had set his documents up under his given name.

The raids came during two different weeks. Uncertain if his connection to enlistments and the recruiter, Chai staged himself to be found by the next raiding party. He produced practice and scratch attempts at falsified enlistment orders where his official one had been used as the original. His disguise included bruises and malnutrition and near dehydration. His story was that he had been sbducted at the same time the CS recruiter had been taken. Figuring that he would die before the false members had made it through boot camp, they had left his official orders and their practice efforts with him, the trash.

Sometime the next day, Chai was discovered and recovered. Chai played his part acting the victim and the abused. The CS teams forwarded his documents and took him to the nearest medical facility for recovering and evaluation. Unable to locate the recruiter they validated his last “official” enlistment and Chai Son was “In the Army the Now”.

Basic Training was more indoctrination than anything as far as Son was concerned. He processed the material and training by compartmentalizing everything. Things that readily applied to his previous life, like hand to hand combat were excepted without question. Those things that didn't make sense, like hatred for demons, magic, and non-humans he stored away elsewhere. Wo would he be if he osterisized other outcasts. Then there were those things that fell in the middle. Clearly not applicable now yet something that intuition and instinct said should be used.

Army Basic completed in short order and Son had already processed his own orders for MOS training in Lone Star. Why go anyhere that was not home?

On a two day furlough prior to moving to the advanced billets in Lone Star, Son received his orders. Opening the envelope, assured that he had everything in order, he withdrew the plastifilm. The shock, only registered in his eyes, the rest of him was a cool smooth customer. Orders had him reporting to Chi Town within 2 days. Same MOS. Different location. Note in red at the bottom read: "MOS Re-assignment due to origin." It was signed. Dated. The signature was memorized immediately. Such things will certainly come in handy later.

Refining and Tempering

Lone Star Army Training Facility

9 weeks

A couple of days to get him fully in processed and cleaned up and then Chai was in Basic Training.

A letter was sent to his family telling them of the glories of their son joining the CS Army, one that held long traditions of equality and opportunity for all humans. It was the first word on their son they had had in nearly eight years. Who is to say whether the letter was well received. Chai had long discarded that name and his parents along with it.

His current family lay in ruins. The CS raids had caused the Thai Star Gang to nearly disentegrate. No one had been as lucky as Chai, But then again no one had planned as far ahead either. Chai was ahead of things and looking further ahead at the next steps of his life. In processing had him take a placement exam along with several hundred others.

During the following weeks of basic training, in between indoctrination, history, physicals, physical fitness, bivouacing, and more tests, Chai scoured the training facilities for details on the senior brothers. A sign here. a note there. They had been here but very little detail saying where they had gone. They had come in in secrecy and now they were part of the secrets of Lone Star.

Chai's suspicions became confirmations when he came across the only other Asian in the basic training rotation. Pvt John John Lee, was what a model citizen should be. Lee was xenophobe who believed in the humans only and everything else was less than dirt. He also warmed up to Chai and was very open about a topic he called "The Weeding".

When Lee had been recruited, it was during the raids on Thai. The recruiter had let slip that other Asians had recently been indoctrinated into a new series of trainings at the Lone Star compound. Lee hinted at a something like an internment camp. Chai was worried.

Son began searching and researching. He was the last of the Thai Star recruits and was likely not going to be leaving Lone Star. He began working on forging documents and orders to get him transfered to any other CS facility. Having qualified for medical training, Son began crafting orders for Chi-Town under the name Chai Son, wanting to make sure his past died in Lone Star.

Son had boarded the jet when told to. He had taken the seat pointed out by the Sergeant in Charge of the flight. Looking around he realized that he was on board with nearly a full platoon of armed men and once airborne he would have no wiggle room to escape. There was one seat open, right beside him. That was actually his seat.

He was only in "his" basic training fatigues, had "his" ID tags, and "his" personal identification card. Hopefully the trail he had left behind would be enough to throw suspicion on a dozen individuals. It had been a lot of work for two days but he had a cover story and a new identity plus falsified records that verified him as one Chai Son. When Pvt John John Lee was later found drunk and having missed his flight he would be repremanded and promptly have his MOS changed to that of Scullery Maid. Son was quite pleased with himself.

As the jet was leaving from the Lone Star Air Command, Son closed his eyes and waited for the next few hours till touch down. Surprising to him is that the flight did not disturb him. He had control of his situation once again.

Touchdown in less than three hours and Son found himself following the entire platoon off the plane and towards the terminals. Here Son parted ways with the armed platoon and caught his respective train towards the training facility for medical professionals like he soon would be.

MOS Training: February - May 109 P.A.

Post by LoJack »

MOS Training: February - May 109 P.A.

Chi-Town, Army Technical Training Center

Sixteen Weeks

The medical training had been easy. Simple stuff really. Heat Exhaustion. Diaherrea. Hyper Tension. Stress. Acing med training was not difficult it was hard. Son saw oportunities in every class and every training. Classes during the day scheming into the night.

Into his first month, Son was certain he had located the local Chicago Network Black Market agents. The Chi-Town ATTC seemed to have one and Son made sure to introduce himself. At the end of his second month, Son was moving scrounged contraband and goods at an effecient rate and making a name for himself.

Third month of training, assignments were already being made and it seems that requests were coming from the active duty units. Medics were in high demand and the localaly garrisoned units were getting first priority for replensihment. Staying near Chi-Town was a good way for Chai to make his way back into the Underworld.

In his last month Chai was able to do something a little different than forging orders for his next stint with the Army. He made an effort to speak with the medical cadre. Sometimes as a whole and other times individually. Expressing his interest very strongly in being assigned to a unit that would defend all that the CS represented and stood for, he wanted to be in Chicago Company. Chai relayed how he had over heard that Chicago Company was in need of medics and good ones at that. He was certain he was the right medic for the job.

Training was concluding in a few days and the orders for duty assignments were being delivered. Son really had no need to look at his, he already knew that he was joining Chicago Company. Opening the paperwork anyway, it was confirmed. Chicago Company. How good was his luck, he looked further. 2nd Rifle Platoon. All right, there were prospects and then there were Chai Son's prospects. Third line in the orders sealed the stroke of fortune. Command Squad. Luck always runs in threes.

The other medics were not sure what to think of their duty assignments but Chai was already packing and planning. Time to adapt his trades and move on to the next adventure.
