Normally I would post the Chaos Earth mini game, called Conflicted in an actual GM Post. For now, this once, I’ll drop the first Conflicted into the OOC area here.

Conflicted
Conflicted will be my mini game within our game. These will be questions that you can discuss with your family and friends, or fellow Players. By answering the questions in a OOC somewhere at the start or end of your Player Characters Post you will earn ... things. Either, bennies, XP, or awards in character. If I really like your answer I might incorporate your character finding something cool etc.

THIS FIRST CONFLICTED CAN JUST BE ANSWERED HERE IN THE OOC AREA.

Famous Prepper, Crazy Cade once asked the following question to his guest during one of his shows...
  • List five crimes punishable by death in a post apocalyptic world that do not carry that sentence in the world of today.
  • Reward: For a free extra Bennie at the start of the Reign of Chaos game give us your response. That’s right! You could start with an extra bennie!
This is to get your creative Survivor juices flowing as we work on building Characters.

For Wesley "Stones" McAlister

Theft in any fashion

Number 1 Food. Stealing crops from a field not your own. If you aren't willing to work the field, the crops from the field are certainly not yours.

Number 2 Fuel. Facilities to process crude oil will be scarce. Those that have access to gasoline and the like, will barter pretty heavily for it. Siphoning even a gallon is not worth the death sentence.

Not Theft Related

Number 3 Impersonating. Claiming to be a doctor or nurse, an engineer, a mechanic, or someone with technical background.

Number 4 Hoarding. There is a point where excess will go to waste and not sharing means your life is forfeit. Be careful how much you insist on keeping and how much you let others know you have.

Last One

Number 5 Cannibalism. There are some serious meat eaters in the world. Just because you do not know how to hunt or fish, gives you no right to eat another sentient being.

Theft - Sgt is right this is terrible. Stealing even a little will get an adult killed. However preindustrial or high scarcity societies tend to be much more lenient on prepubesent theft.

Disobeying - Rebellious people are part and parcel in our culture. But in a society on the bering your not following orders could mislead others and examples have to be made. The additional resources of feeding a prisoner are also a drain. Banishment or outright death or enslavement would be the only way to handle it.

Sedition - Freedom of speech sounds cool and all. But like a soldier who raises an order when you start undermining the authority you leave them few choices if they are wise in the ways of real political power.

People Smuggling - Sneaking people in to your fortifications or walls to absorb the communities resources. This depletes the already finite resources. The strangers will likely get banished and flogged. But the resident needs to be an example.

Consorting with the Enemy - While here in America it is okay for a person to hangout and celebrate with Foreign powers, only to return to the states and gain office. Even being accused of something like that will get you lynched by a mob. (The CS is pretty solid on this.)

On the flip, something we reject that would become more accepted.

Abuse - As society breaks down strength comes to mean more. Spousal and Child Abuse would become more common. A person will not want to risk injury when it could mean lose in the long term to protect another.

Faith Healers - Fakes and quacks would be everywhere. When people are scared it motivates action. Even when that action goes against what they know, they want something to happen.

Jingoism or Racism - Small villages or large you would see protector becoming more tribal. (Something humans ate already wired for.) Someone who is not part of the group, such as traveling adventurers, would be seem as extremely suspicious. Trust would break down in order to preserve those you know or are familiar with.

Thanks for playing you two. You both start with an extra bennie when the game starts!

Speaking of that. I’m ready to start the game as soon as everyone has characters.

So we will start as soon as you are all ready. Thank you.

Questions on character building, ask me here or on Hangouts.

Peeps were always coming in to the Dragon Juice Bar asking Benny Flippin Gumbo (BFG for short these days) all sorts of crazy questions. The news outlet editor for the Crazy Cade had been coming in for weeks asking Benny about crimes in a post apocalypse world. Normally Benny just told him, ”Dude... I am juicing here.” But today was different... Maybe it was the beautiful sunrise or the great waves last night... But Benny was ready to answer.

”Dude... Its the post apocolypse... There are no government rules that we would recognize.” He thought for a moment and quietly said, ” But honestly I hope Humanity’s soul has unbreakable rules. Rape, Child Abuse, kidnapping, identity theft, Torture, all leave a stain on a soul Dude... They change you for the worse and make you a villian. In a post apocolyptic world I could see those crimes all being punishable by death.”

Strangely the inclusions of identity theft by two people. Makes me wonder, I have never considered ID theft as a capitol offense, or something all that bad.

For example in a book if I read someone create or steel and identity I do not think twice. But if I see them rape, kick a dog, or murder i expect then writers to bring them to justice (read dead) by the end of the story.

Perhaps there is something in the California culture that makes it seem more evil to those in CA than it does to those in WA?

PS: I am not challenging the answer only chatting on the topic. i find it interesting.

This is a post apocalyptic identity theft man. There are some things you just shouldn’t do while the world is burning down around you.

Dude put on some clothes. Benny sighed. Stones was pretty regular, and if he beleived his employee so were his stools. But seriously that guy needed a shirt, didn't he see the no kilts sign? Benny looked over at the front door and noticed the sign was missing. ”Stones right? Same as usual dude? We just got in some FJD t-shirts too, moisture wickin’ and everything too dude. Want one?”

"As long as they are locally produced and environmentally friendly. Big Corp has theirs messes everywhere."

"And yes the usual will be fine."

Throwing a ten dollar bill on the counter, "Your board still impounded?"

Over at his usual table, Sam sits sipping his drink, considering the conversation whirling around him. "The Apocalypse?" He snorts. "If there is ever anything like that that goes down, first thing is to figure out who caused it. That'll tell you what the New World Order will look like when the dust starts to settle. If it's the Bavarians, for instance, it'll be knowing too much. Zurich, on the other hand, will just outlaw any attempt to live outside of whatever fiat currency they come up with. Merovingians will set up feudal settlements, with their word as absolute law. The Discordians will strike down anyone who attempts to try to rebuild an orderly society. And I figure the reptiloids will be all about enforced breeding--refusing to participate OR breeding outside the schedule will be a capital crime. You have to know who won the last game before you know the rules in the new one."

"Crime after the apocalypse? I don't know. I mean, with no central authority system everyone probably just splits into warring tribes, right, and who cares what you do to other tribes?" Ven says, pushing back in his chair and tapping two fingers on his denim-covered thigh, like he usually does when he starts thinking through a problem.

"But suppose there are things you just choose not to accept, even if it's your own people doing it to someone else. I mean, rape, for one. Totally un-fucking-acceptable. Slavery. Stealing from your own people, in whatever form -- swiping more than your share of food, whatever breaks the social compact."

"That's really what it boils down to, I think. Not being a reliable survival partner. So, honestly, not following established safety protocols. You can't tolerate that. Somebody tracks radioactive waste into the bunker, or forgets to stock enough water filter chips, whatever ... you fuck up like that once to often and the whole tribe gets wiped. Better to set the example early."

"And damaging infrastructure. Whatever we're left with, making it worse just isn't cool. Start a forest fire, you could make southern California uninhabitable. Go jacking around at a nuclear site, or release some super-bug ... sayonara, asshole, we gotta take you out before you ruin it more for the rest of us."

"Guys, you gotta think more...messed up," Juno insists from where she's sitting laconically against a wall with her feet up on the chair opposite her.

"People are gonna be crazy after a big breakdown like that. It's gonna be chaos. Half the things people do won't make any sense to us at all."

She started ticking off fingers.

"Blaspheming against the Great Stone God...which you and I know as a big statue in a fountain in that bigass department store downtown? But they think it's protecting them, so no pissing in the goddamn fountain or..." Juno cocked a finger at her temple and twitched her thumb, jerking her head away as if a bullet had hit it.

"Death to those who speak louder than a whisper on the full moon, cuz that's when the Skullface Barbarians hunt. You'll bring that down on everyone."

Juno paused, thinking. "Uh, death to someone who tries to eat or drink more than their ration of food and water. Doesn't matter if you steal it, or convince someone to give you theirs, or whatever. Not allowed."

"Death for getting married without the permission of the Leader. Also, death for NOT getting married when you're told to. And super DUPER death for not having any kids. Or for having too many." With a nod, Juno adds, "I'm pretty sure the future'll be pretty big on population control."

"And, lets say death for charging interest. Post-apocalypse is the perfect time for the old classics to make a comeback."

Thus far there have been 3 CONFLICTED OOC options to you all.
Just a reminder, and note, you might need/want these perks once you get tossed into the Chaos!

Enjoy and have fun!

To everyone. I hate that I had to disappear from the game with no notice or updates.
I am extremely sorry. I wish I had been able to notify you in advance.
I am fine. I just had some IRL major "things" I had to resolve.

You are all the best, awesome role players and friends, sorry again!
I do not foresee myself having the ability to game here at this time.

Miss your excellent RP and hope you are all well.

Understood Dan,
Life is always more important than the game. I hope things can settle out well for you in real life, and even if you cannot return to the game, you can get some peace at home.
