Chapter One: The Warehouse

Post by Venatus Vinco »

The Three Amigos (Luke, Peter, Simon)
Three months. Three long, awkward, months.

That is how long the trio of unlikely monster hunters have been working together since the day they came together under compromising circumstances. Luke, famous blogger, with the hot wife comes home to his fancy condo in Brentwood to find her in bed with his best friend Peter! Before things get really awkward (is that even possible?) a fellow busts into the house with flintlock pistols and unloads on the wife and a gimpy private eye shows up to get them all the hell out of there.

Since that time the unlikely trio has been learning as much as they can about Luke’s make-believe-wife. So far they haven’t been able to find out much, but in their research they turned up a series of attacks in the warehouse district that Tyler and Simon definitely see as signs of Fallen activity. It doesn’t take them long to narrow things down to a closed up meat-packing plant.

Staking it out from Tyler’s car they don’t see much action until a group of fools breaks in in broad daylight. The burglars look like a costume party, with one lady in traditional Asian attire, a couple of hipster students, and a guy from the cast of Tool Time. If there is a Fallen inside they’ll all soon be dead.
TLDR
You managed to track a Fallen to the same place as the professionals and just witnessed them breaking in
The Professionals (Renata, Ken, Tianshi, Brandon)
It doesn't take took long for the lights to come on...although the group quickly wishes they could unsee what the light reveals. Human bodies swing eerily from the meat hooks the meat hooks in the packing plant! Those with special sense don't detect any presences. There are some industrial freezers with locks on them lining one wall. The back wall is offices. But the majority of the warehouse is taken up with eat processing equipment in various states of repair.

”Those poor idiots. Okay, like we practiced, quietly and quickly.”

Simon draws his flintlocks and approaches the building as quietly as he can, peering through a window if he can reach one.

Tianshi stands in the morbid scene not sensing anyhting more than residue from a Fallen.

Heading back to the doorway, she suddenly detects an approaching group, tainted but not quite Fallen.

She quickly motions to @Brandon Meyers @Ken Lang and @Renata Hodges and points through the doorway as if something approaches.

"Daten-shi" [Fallen Angels] she whispers.

A concubine, a couple of baristas, and what could only be described as a man’s man walk into a meat packing plant... With electronic pad and stylus in hand ever the driven blogger Luke scurried after the musketeer wondering why the last three months had happened to a famous person like him. The last three months were something to be left desired. Ever surrounded by the folks that had turned his wife into a monster Luke did all he could to learn about them and their fight against the so called Fallen. His blog posts were full of interviews and related to sightings focusing both on the fallen and his new compatriots. Their was one eyed Jack, hard boiled as they come and with a hard on for his wife the size... Well lets just say a sea creature. Aimos, the musketeer that time forgot, was described as a broody denizen of the dark caught between the devil and the deep. Peter seemed to be flavorfully described in the blog under the on the nose psudo name Corrupter. Their near do well attempts to discover the who, why and how Luke’s beautiful wife had turned into a sultry devil had met with little progress and Luke had described all the failures in his blog as a veiled attempt to throw him off the real reason for her demonic change... The aforementioned three were the ones that had turned her and he was determined to find out whyt!

Aimos was going on about practice. Luke barely stymied a sardonic chuckle as he recalled the groups attempts at practice. Still, he followed keeping low with his weapons at hand ready to capture his ‘friends’ follies for his ravid readers. As it turns out, the dark web could just not get enough of their exploits.

Peter has spent a lot of time learning new tricks, not nearly all he can do probably, but at least something more than he could before. He has spent time practicing his old tricks...if you call things he could do only starting from three months ago "old". He actually has not gotten much better, though he is striving to do so. He just has not figured out how...no magic ritual or document of ancient thaumaturgy seems to make any difference.

He thinks, Well what did I really expect? It is not like most such documents are real, they are mostly either pure fantasy or insanity. That, or they really need you to know the original language. No translation is going to have a proper pronunciation key for ancient Egyptian or Babylonian.

The obvious conclusion is that if any spells or rituals ever worked at all and were actually recorded, that they had to be done in the original language properly pronounced. Of course, there is nothing that says anything that worked was ever written down.

He is brought back from his musings by Simon speaking and looks up. He sees the four people and frowns.

He comments, "A grouping of people that, at a glance, seems just as oddly assembled as we ourselves do. Possibly that is significant, could they be another group, like ourselves, who have dealt with the Fallen?"

The others are right about one thing, it is time to get going. He has options these days, when it comes to scouting at least.

He commands, *Therian, your master bids you, transform me into a Ferret.*

He feels the magic start to work immediately, everything around him frow larger while his body is wracked with pain from his bones and muscles being reshaped. The world turns into shades of black and white while his other senses grow keener. In moments he is a small flexible furry creature with a long tail and short legs, something much better at sneaking than a large clumsy human.

Tyler scoffs as he watches the other group blast their way into the warehouse.

"Did these schmucks just blast the door open with a shotgun? Color me impressed, actually, because I didn't hear a thing," Tyler says skeptically as the large guy opens the door and heads inside.

He warns the others, "Looks like we might be dealing with some mojo with those guys, but who can say if they're a bunch of weird-o's like us or..."

The opening and slamming of doors drowns his words out and he shakes his head with a sigh.

'Fine. Run off again.'

Tyler steps out of the car and grabs his duffel bag. Then he shuffles towards the building with the others.

Simon holds his pistol up in front of his mouth like a finger and mimes shushing, in the universal sign of “shut up, @Tyler Puckett, you’re making too much noise.”

He points at @Peter Dunn as off to say “be more like the ferret.”

At least @Luke Morningstar seems to have picked up on some good awareness. The guy is like a handsome nerd ninja.

One eye’d jack shuffles and moans like a Dead End zombie. Athos fingers the ferret. Luke uploaded his brief thoughts to the cloud wondering If this time his compatriots would reveal themselves as the sour underbelly of the devil’s own. Maybe the meat packing plant will explode and I’ll wake up from this nightmare.

Ken's eyes go wide as the lights come on. As he sees the bodies slowly rotating on their hooks, some missing limbs, some with throats ripped out but all covered in gore, his breath starts coming faster. Finding himself about to hyperventilate, he stuffs the kama's into his belt and covers his nose and mouth with his hands.

Just human bodies....hanging on meat hooks like some cow carcass...nothing to worry about...

He doesn't do much to calm his thoughts, but the increased CO2 in his body goes a long way to slowing his breathing.

Well shit... If I am gonna die, lets get this over with... Ken thinks, as he shuffles over to one of the locked freezer doors, signalling to Renata. He whispers when she is in range. "When I throw the door open, you shoot anything that pops out...". He moves close to the freezer door and, Before Tianshi says anything about the unexpected guests, holds up fingers and counts down.

3...2....1...

Ken throws the lock and whips the door open as fast as he can - Which is best described as a slow creak, as the door is heavy and not well balanced. It's really quite the comical sight...

This is bad.

Renata's eyes bugged wide as she stared around the revealed warehouse. All she could think was that, over and over; her brain stuck in a spiral into panic. This is bad. This is bad.

What had she fought so far? A few things, nothing too big or bad. She'd figured from the rumors that this would be worse, but...

This was BAD.

Then Ken's voice shook her out of herself. Get a grip. You're not alone here.

She nodded and managed to emit a "Yep."

Pulling her pistol, Renata jogged over to where Ken was standing getting ready to throw the freezer open. She assumed a two-handed shooter stance, the kind you use on a gun range but probably rarely get to use when you really NEED it, and took aim at the center of the door down the sights.

"Ready."

Tyler rolls his eyes at @Simon and points his middle finger towards the as if to say 'I'm not the one who keeps rushing headfirst into danger, pal.' When Simon points at @Peter Dunn, Tyler raises an eyebrow. 'Ok, now that could come in handy. As long as an owl doesn't snatch him up or something.'

Tyler seems just as impressed as Simon with how quiet @Luke Morningstar has been.

He steps up to the side of the door and holds his fist up as if to say 'hold'. Tyler reaches into the front pocket of his duffel and pulls out an obviously well-cared for .38 snub nose. With his free hand he holds up two fingers and then points towards the freezer. He also motions at the costumed chick and the lumberjack.

Although Tyler's not sure how much tactical experience Simon has, its obvious that the guy has more experience with this weird shit, so he defers to him.
