Explorer Points, what are they and how to get them

Post by Seswarick »

The Basics of Explorer Points Explorer Points are a meta-reward system given to players who contribute to the site by exceeding post rates, being a Patron, serving as Game Masters, entering (and winning) contests, and contributing to various site projects. They can be used for a number of things on the site, most often to unlock additional character slots or to buy a "signature" item for a character, but also for minor in game effects like altering a die roll, getting extra or restricted gear, as well as several temporary effects. For a full list of what they can be used for go here

How to get them If you have joined the site and made a character you already should have your first EP. "But that won't get me much of anything, how do I get more?" you may be thinking. Here are the other ways to earn EP:
  • Post rate; EP and character advancement for participation is awarded at the start of every quarter, so January, April, July, and October first. The higher your post count the more you will get for a particular group(up to 3 EP for averaging two posts a week). If you are in multiple games, well you get rewards for each of them individually, so more participation means more rewards!
  • Serving as a game master: GMing pays out at the start of a quarter just like playing, you can earn up to five depending on how your group rates your performance. For more information on how to join the ranks of GMing and what it entails see here
  • Contests and other events: Occasionally there will be writing contest and other events on the site. Just participating will get you one EP, winning is worth 5.
  • Conversions of Rifts or other interesting things can earn you EP per conversion. The process for submitting them is here
  • Being a Patron will give a quarterly reward based on your level of patronhood, full details of how and why to do so are here. Don't like/use Patreon? No problem! Paypal is also supported.
  • Recruit some friends! Just trying to get someone to join is worth an EP (note must be able to prove it happened, sorry but some folks are less than honest), if they do join then it will net you a second EP
You can also ask your GM or a site admin if there are other projects you can do to earn a little scratch to get that next character slot unlocked. Things like writing a guide for new players (cha-ching) or making video recaps of your teams adventures can also possibly pay out.
