Elle has under her wing a letter addressed to the 1st from Zolo with love: “ So... I guess I am dead but you know what I feel like I died a hero. Miss you all lots of hugs and kisses. Alecto stay cool and tell me some time about who made you and why? I can’t die a second time to hear about it but I would ya know. Anny keep sexing up that succubus. I put an oil painting up in your room to immortalize some of the fun you guys like to have... Just kidding you perve! Or am I? Anon make me some wall walking shoes and stick them some place really high for all of time. Rod, I’ll miss hearing more stories of your 3M life. Sounds epic and wish I could have heard some more of it. Maybe if you ever feel an easterly wind at your back that is just me asking for one more story. Cory, keep it real and stay short  . Merlaggon... What can I say, little brother, dad would have been proud. Keep being the dragon you are meant to be. Oh and some one stick Elle with something sharp just to make sure she isn’t a feather stealing shapeshifted demon!

After reading the note Elle ruffled her feathers a bit and out flew another one. The owl hooted turning an even deeper shade of blue, ”Seriously???”

The note read, Sinder, sorry man I am trying to get these notes in under the wire. These demons are super fierce! So... Look man what can I say, every team has a glue guy, thats you Sinder. Keep the 1st together no matter what! Also tell your dad the socks I stole are buried outback in their yard under the walnut tree in their fruit orchard... Thats it from me Sinder Baron, keep it fiery!

As the team recovered from their escape in Albuquerque, Anarik lounged with Ilse in the hot tub of the motel, easing back with a groan as he soaked his sore muscles. Ilse’s skilled hands ran over his shoulders, massaging away his aches, pressing her naked body against his, her long red hair wet and clinging to her curves.

“What are you thinking, Anny?” Ilse purred.

“Just thinking about Zolo.”

“Why? You hated her.”

“Hated is a bit...strong. She annoyed the hell out of me. She never shut up, always chattering away. I never wished her ill.”

“Well, she’s gone now. Now you can have your peace and quiet.” Ilse grinned at Anarik, but then her face fell in confusion. “What?”

“It’s saying things like that that remind me what you are,” Anarik growled. “Zolo was a hero. She sacrificed her life to save not only us, but this entire region. Maybe the world.”

Ilse frowned. “Seems like a waste.”

“You don’t die,” Anarik pointed out.

“Doesn't mean it doesn’t hurt.” Ilse pouted. “Now why don’t we stop being so serious and let me cheer you up,” she purred seductively as she moved to straddle his lap and kiss him.

Anarik sighed, fighting the urge to give in weakly before finally giving up and returning the kiss, at least until the sound of footsteps on the decking interrupted them. Anarik pulled away and pushed Ilse to the side again. “Come on in. The water’s perfect.”

Ilse just pouted again.

“Zolo , she was uncandidly correct about all of this. because of her, the battles prior to the pit was successful. She ignored orders given to us by the false Elle of the Owls, as did the 1st and others. Always doing the right thing despite what the orders were. She was compassionate to all, and constantly rearranging things which drove us crazy at times. Yet when this pint-sized dragon was forced with her final task, she did not hesitate she climbed upon the Blood altar and gave her own life to closed the rift. Her heart was the biggest of all of ours. Her ultimate sacrifice, ensured our earth, at this time, would survive. She will not be forgotten by those that fought nor by the Nations of the west. The 1st’s sorrow is also of the peoples of this great land. We will remember fondly in our hearts. The First will do what is Right!”

Re: Interlude, Remembering Zolo

Post by Icosa »

Following the return of the 1st SET to Castle Refuge, Alecto spent some time near Zolo's coffin prior to her burial. There would be a memorial service later, but she wished to have a more private moment where she didn't have to factor in social expectations, distracting her from the task of reflecting on Zolo's life. Her loss was regrettable. Alecto wished to learn what could be learned from it.

They had met first at the radio dishes where an army of demons had been engaged and defeated, and an augmented, demonically-infested woman had been sending signals either AS Fell, or FROM Fell. The specifics of that weren't clear even now. Zolo and Anarik had joined the team, the latter's use of demonic magic immediately sparking controversy.

Zolo had been loud-mouthed, outspoken, undisciplined. Creative, ingenious, skilled, and dedicated. Despite having been on the team only a short while, she followed them into Hell itself and had ultimately laid down her life to get the mission done. Her attitude had been positive to an extent that seemed strange to Alecto...even at times unbalanced. She regretted that there would be no opportunity to better understand this peculiar, heroic humanoid.

Satisfied for the moment, the android backed away from Zolo's casket and left the room. Zolo at least had peace now, she supposed. Something she herself might never know.

Re: Interlude, Remembering Zolo

Post by Merlaggon »

Merlaggon's thoughts were not really on the funeral that was taking place for Zolo. Unfortunately Merlaggon was getting too much experience with having to have his teammates buried. This led to some interesting thoughts...

Zolo, you were my least favorite teammate, but then you had to go and do something all stupid and noble-like and sacrifice yourself in order to save the world. I am just relieved it wasn't my Cory who did it... or Sinder… and that Alecto seems quite nice... maybe I am glad it WAS Zolo then instead of anyone I REALLY like.

I wonder if after the funeral I can get Cory to scratch that one spot behind my right ear that I have problems reaching to scratch myself. When she really leans in with her chain sword on it, it feels just right.

It was SO tempting to eat Zolo when he insulted me when we were fighting those Demons to get to the Hell Pit. Good thing Cory had told me it was wrong to eat humanoids, or someone I like may have had to sacrifice themselves. I wonder what he would have tasted like. I don't really know if there was enough of him to even get a real taste. Better stop thinking about how humanoids taste... Cory would not like me thinking of that.

If people say anything unusual tastes like chicken, how do they describe what chicken tastes like?

Better look like I am paying attention to the funeral before Cory starts giving me the stink-eye like she does everyone else. If I get her mad, I know she DEFINATELY will not scratch me behind my ear.

Post by Roderick Wolfram »

Rod is in one of the pallbearers, taking the diminutive casket up the aisle. His face is composed and calm, not reflecting the emotions that he has underneath. The 1st follies is correct, this team goes through members faster than our dragon eats cattle, Rod reflects. Joining this team at Durango, with that bed-bug crazy Sea Inquisitor, Saul, and his creepy daughter? Ward? Girl friend? Whatever. Then the Chrome Commander rejoining the bad guys. I missed meeting that Quick-Flex, Qoat, I heard he was the heart of this team. Maybe I'll find him around the Refuge. Alecto is sold and Anon whipped up some needed gear on the fly, I am glad they are staying. Anarik and his demon girl friend, I am not sure why Elle has allowed that to continue, but she denied my request to transfer him out.

But out of this whole harrowing adventure, Zolo was the bright spark. Half-human, half dragon, maybe, it definitely didn't seem to hinder her any. It wasn't until later that I realized that I knew for sure Zolo was a girl. If I hadn't seen her unmentionables drying out next to that hot spring we stopped at, I'd have never known for sure. She was always optimistic that we'd succeed, such the opposite of our curmudgeon leader, Cory. You'll be missed Zolo, and I hope your dad doesn't hold it against us.

When the service ends, he sees Cory stalk off as normal, he tells the team, "The Owl hasn't given us any new orders yet, take the time to recharge your batteries, I am told there are counselors on call for returning teams if you need to talk anything out."
