Interlude: A Fallen Hero

Post by Venatus Vinco »

Quiet Journey
As the team exits the old power plant, Fell and Cory respond to the scene instinctively. A blast from Cory knocks the officer back a few yards and causes his armor to burn while Fell pounces like an animal and beats the already dying man into the ground. An awkward silence occurs, even the normally verbose Gale is silent, before Qooat suggest the group get the hell out of dodge. Fell agrees and the group quickly gathers up some CS salvage while collecting Sir Sayeen’s body.

The troops were well armed with the latest C-20 Laser Pistols and CP-40 Laser Pulse Rifles, the group manages to find a half dozen of each in useable condition. Breaking down the Enforcer or Skull Walkers would take too much time and their heavy rail guns need to be left behind. While salvaging, Tim takes the time to collect dog tags and notices the group were from Chicago Company of the 1st Joseph Prosek Infantry Brigade. One of the most storied units in the CS Army.

It is a long, quiet, drive back to the Free City of Hammond. Above the Q-Mobile Merlaggon carries Sayeen’s body in noble estate. At the embassy, the Community Outreach Team is deeply saddened by the loss of Sir Sayeen and confirmation that none of their security team survived. Ambassador Pin, the Fennodi Diplomat, sends word to Castle Refuge right away. Before even a few hours have passed a rift runner from the Tomorrow Legion enters the embassy and gathers the team up for a portal back to Arkansas.

Farewell to a Hero
At Castle Refuge a great number of the Legionnaires and Cyberknights gather together for Sir Sayeen’s remembrance. Even the great Lord Coake of the Cyberknights makes an appearance. Apparently, Sir Sayeen had many friends.

Perhaps the greatest tragedy of all is the appearance of a new team member, Lail Gabbersleaf - Sir Sayeen’s daughter. She came to Castle Refuge in search of her father and arrived just in time to attend his funeral. Truly, when it comes to bad news, it doesn’t rain - it pours.
OOC Comments
Okay, this week’s post is an Interlude, worth up to 2 additional XP.

Describe your character’s response to Sir Sayeen’s passing, it can be actions (like Fell at the Outside Inn), internal monologue, a flashback story, greatest memory, whatever. I am also looking for any appropriate hindrances to come into play for how you might deal socially with loss/bad news.

OOC Comments
Sinder's IC statement about securing the CS video logs made me think of this....in the end Fell will have a new Major Hindrance.
Devils Archway, St. Louis, Missouri.
  • A Coalition soldier’s worst nightmare was assignment to the military confinement forces at the Devils Archway in the former state of Missouri.

Soldiers assigned to the Coalition States Military Confinement Force were generally there for one of two reasons; either they had angered someone higher up in the chain of command and thus given the dreaded orders to report for duty at the MCF, or they were crazy enough that they wanted to be there.

In either case they were a violent and often out of control force, given high tech weapons and armor to fight the steady stream of hordes of demons that regularly appeared out of the great Rift of the Archway.

The few CS members who wanted to be assigned to the Arch, and were not necessarily counted among the crazy, were the members of the Coalitions Rifts Control Study Group.

Lieutenant Thomas Throne was a RCSG officer who had spent the majority of his career assigned to the Arch by choice.

Over the last year Lieutenant Thorne had spent almost every day hunkered down in the subterranean CS base of operations two blocks away from the Arch. His studies had enraptured his attention and given him his first major breakthrough in regard to ascertaining some sort of pattern to the dimensional attacks of a group of Raiders known as the Delvers. These damned Delvers were somehow linked to Castle Refuge. Throne wanted to know how.

Lieutenant Throne had taken great pains to employ the MCF towards snatching several intruders from the Arch for enhanced interrogation and applying what he could learn from these captured mages to his own scientific data collected on raids and studying the seemingly random fluctuations of the Arch and subsequent Ley Line storms in the area.

Whether it was luck, which he did not believe in, or the collective research and planning which culminated his careers work at the Arch, when the Delvers next arrived at the Devils Archway the Coalition would be ready for them. It had helped that someone higher up in the CS chain of command had taken an interest in Thorne's scientifically based prediction of the next attack.

Alongside the regular MCF troops who were flying about the area in SAMAS power armor units and the ground assault troops, set up in a wide outer perimeter around the Arch, a large detachment of Coalition Special Forces troops had arrived in the area from Chi Town.

The SF troops consisted of a full battalion of highly trained and dedicated Special Forces operators with a vast amount of combat and field operation experience. Thorne was ecstatic to be heard by his commanding officers and to have the overwhelming force stationed, although temporarily, to the Arch.

From within the subterranean command post Thorne oversaw the joint operation to stage an assault on the dimensional raiders alongside a SF Major named, Nolan Ng.

Major Ng paced back and forth across the steel floor of the command post quietly watching a myriad of monitors which displayed the Arch from dozens of different directions.

Lieutenant Thorne recalled the SF Majors arrival, Thorne had been in the interrogation room with a half dead Line Rifter Mage suspected of ties to Castle Refuge, named Sammy Kensington.

Sammy was a young Ley Line Rifter who hailed from Lazlo and had arrived through the Archway and was captured by the MCF.

Watching as a genetically created Dog Boy slowly punched the kid, Thorne sat back in his chair in front of the interrogation table eating his lunch. A knock at the door sounded and Thorne grumbled.

Standing up Thorne saw that the Psi Hound had stopped hitting the young Mage.

Annoyed Thorne said, "Remove a few of his teeth while I see who is interrupting my lunch. When I come back we'll remove the lads tongue if he still refuses to cooperate".

Turning away from the prisoner Thorne grinned and opened the room’s door. Stepping outside into the hallway he was met by another Dog Boy.

    Thorne asked, "What!"

The Dog Boy stood a full foot and a half taller than Thorne but looked down at his feet and in a guttural voice replied, "I am sorry to bother you Sir. A Major Ng of Special Forces has arrived and wishes to speak to you Sir. Some sort of video broadcast is being sent here. Its...bad Sir. ".

Thorne nodded and said, "Fine. Take me to him Corporal Bark Lee".

Making their way to the main communications room of the underground bunker the Dog Boy stepped aside to allow Lieutenant Thorne to enter first. As the Dog Boy took a position of attention along the interior rooms wall Thorne walked over to his desk station.

Thorne saw the Special Forces Officer watching a bank of massive monitors. There was some sort of battle in process. As Thorne moved closer to the bank of monitors he saw that in fact there were a bunch of CS soldiers fighting one man. An old looking Cyber Knight.

Every soul in the Ops Center was in awe. Thorne noticed two things about the video feed. First it was being broadcast from CS forces, likely miss fed to his Command. This video should be being sent to Chi Town. Someone miss coded the feed and the Ops Center in the Devil’s Gate area was receiving it. Second, the old man was absolutely obliterating the CS troops. One old man was cutting through the CS soldiers like a hot knife through butter.

Stepping closer to the video screen Thorne said, “Are we recording this? If not start!”

Only moments later the sole elder Cyber Knight had cut down all but one CS soldier. The CS personnel in the Ops Center mostly stood by with jaws open wide in disbelief, one or two aids cried. So many CS soldiers killed, it was horrible.

A collective cry of hope went up in the room as the CS personnel saw one CS Officer carefully and quietly make his way up behind the tired looking Knight.

Major Ng pumped his fist in the air and stated, “That is Major Jon Neeper! I was his roommate in OCS Academy! Come on Jon, kill that dirty Cyber Knight D-Bee!”

Every CS Officer, Enlisted and Dog Boy in the Ops Center simultaneously cheered as Major Neeper cut the head from the Knight.

Thorne shook Ng’s hand excitedly. Ng hooted. Bark Lee barked with glee.

Much cheering and back slapping ensued.

    “Wait! Look!” bellowed Thorne.

All heads turned back to the screen. Blood everywhere. Smoke and destruction. Suddenly two figures burst out into the open.

An obviously chemically enhanced warrior, a Juicer, and a young looking female Mage came out into view on the screen. The woman used vile magic’s to catch Major Neeper on fire. Many present in the Ops Center gasped in horror. How awful, but the worst part was to follow.

The Juicer grabbed Major Neeper, thrust his head down into the pavement and proceeded to violently slash, cut, pummel and crush Major Neeper into a bloody pulp not even resembling a human being. The vicious Juicer killed Major Neeper with utmost disdain and evil heart.

Tears streamed from many in the room as Thorne slammed his fist down on the table before him. The video feed suddenly stopped, all screens going blank, right as what appeared to be a Dragon appeared behind the Juicer.

Thorne bellowed: “I want that damned Castle Refuge murderer on every screen in every CS office, now! This! This is the kind of evil we can expect to face from the human and inhuman forces of the Legion!”

Major Ng shook then nodded, “That Juicer is my next target! Damn the Legion and their lies. I will kill that Juicer! For Neeper, for the CS, for humanity!”

Thorne directed his CS personnel to broadcast the murderous Juicer’s killing blow on the CS hero, Major Neeper, to every CS facility in North America.

Thorne thought: This Juicer is going to be the new Most Wanted by the CS! I need to get Ng to dispatch a few SF guys to figure out the old bastards name. You are mine Legion Juicer!

REVENGE FOR MAJOR NEEPER! FELL MUST FALL!

INTERLUDE
Remember when AFI wasn't a sellout emo band?
Cory doesn't have much a music collection anymore. All of that was left behind. What it was to begin with wasn't that special. The town had a community Zune that had survived hundreds of years and had a whopping 300 songs stored on it from the Golden Age. Thankfully the original owner had diverse tastes, so Cory's community was exposed to all sorts of sounds, some only generously called music.

At least, it seemed to be quite varied. On retrospection, many of the lyrics were about death and tragedy. Others on loss and despair. Very few were about joy or love, and even most of those were twisted in some way. There were little pictures on the screen showing what the bands looked like. That was one of the best parts of the device. Cory and her friends would gather around and look at what the artists (they knew they were artists because that's what the little label said) were wearing, what they were using for instruments and whatever other details they could glean from the tiny image.

You kids will dance to anything!

But they didn't have the means to recreate the music, with guitars and drums and bass, but they had some computers. That became their medium of expression. They remixed, combined, over dubbed and took what they had and made something new, their own. Cory and her friends took the dark music and turned it in all sorts of directions, speeding it up, slowing it down, making it lighter, making it darker, making it happier. It was a town wide phenomenon. Young and old. It was a tradition, each generation taking the same raw material and leaving their mark for their children and grandchildren.

Damn kids! Respect the classics!!

Her town, more or less nameless, had a few high-tech devices that allowed it to be self sufficient through the dark times. There was a distinction between the tech workers and the field workers, but everyone came together as a community, it was fairly harmonious, all things considered. When a kid showed aptitude for coding, they went to apprentice to a computer operator, same with laborers and those with unique abilities. Cory was identified as a magic user early on, but never manifested any actual ability, so being reasonable smart and no where near big enough for the more physical work, Cory trained with the computers that kept the town functioning. It wasn't that exciting, but it gave her access to the hardware. She and her friends would use it (often asking forgiveness, not permission) to compose their own music. Without any portable playback devices, everything was either performed live, or stored for broadcast on the town's radio network.

When the town was destroyed, it was all erased. As she wandered lost and hopeless, the strangest songs would float up in her mind, and she would find herself singing out loud in the forest the most incongruous songs.

We'll dance tonight.

The time with Sun and Moon was without count, there is no way to know how long she was gone. But when she came back, she'd forgotten many of the details of her former life, she could not remember the words to all the songs. She would hum them incoherently, a snippet of a rhythm or a single word with a note as she made her way through the world.

Once at Castle Refuge, she sought out the different music of the eclectic inhabitants. She was always curious.

But that wasn't enough really. Missing part of her life, years maybe, was a vague discomfort. Cory became more and more obsessed with finding out "what's in the box". Her computer security skills were more or less unknown to the people of Castle Refuge, so on the odd occurrence when she had to be a bit creative to sate her curiosity, she wasn't a suspect.

It wasn't all nefarious. Cory would spent lots of time poking in the dark corners to the Castle and the markets. She would explore anywhere that was open, and try harder to explore those that were closed. She never took outrageous risks, or placed anyone else in harms way. Some people knit. Some people smoke. Some people snoop.

Throughout it all, Cory was especially interested in music, and by extension other types of performance. To her though, it was never an ending point, the performance or recording was just the first step in the process, a song or a tune was something that continually evolved. However, she is especially curious about the initial creation process, that seems more like magic to her than the spells she can cast. And music unfiltered by any electronics is one of the most foreign and amazing things she has experienced since coming to Castle Refuge.

True art!!!

Post by Sayeen Gabbersleaf »

Sometime prior to the mission to hammond.

Sir Sayeen is standing on a balcony over looking the grounds of castle refuge as the sun sets. From behind him a stern voice and an unknown figure speaks to him. " So you lost one team, and litterally another found you.". Sir Sayeen nods in silience watching the people move below in the last of the day's light.
The voice behind the elderly knight cuts into his thoughts, " You have requested to remain with the first"
Sir Sayeen looks up at the sky watching a large Flame Wind Dragon soar. Such freedom is worth the price.. Sayeen responds abcently, " Yes the first, it would be good to remain with them."
The figure's stern voices bites back, " I cannot make you their leader, not after last time."
I cannot beleive I got my whole team killed!. Sir Sayeen nods in aggreement and sadly says, " No last time was the last time. Fell reminds me of a son, after three daughters, it is refreshing.". The elderly knight continues musing about the team. " There is that brilliant Quik-flex umm Q something. Cory is such a moody hot head but deep down there is something very special about her. There are those two metal cyborgs, noble and true. We met a mindmelter of genius ability. We also discovered a young dragon, look at him soar!"
The figure reaches out an armored gauntlet gripping Sayeen's shoulder tightly cutting him off, the voice is still stern but an unspoken fury has given it an edge, " Listen, you have done your part. It is time to quit. I will not be the one that etches your name into a chair in that damnable pub!". Sayeen turns and looks at the figure. Continuing on the figure's fury is almost at the boiling point, " Why? Damnit why keep this up?"
Sir Sayeen Gabbersleaf in turn grips the man with his own hands on the shoulder. " You know why my friend, I need them as much as they need me, probably more so. The 1st are a remarkable group of individuals and I would see that my last jouney is with them, my Lord". Sayeen stresses the word Lord in a friendly playful Jab.
The figure steps back at Sayeens words and gives a slight chuckle. In a playful boast says, " So here in lies Sir Sayeen Gabbersleaf's last ride with the 1st, ironic no?"
Sir Sayeen gazes down into the court yard below watching folks come to and fro, he spies the midmelter Gale Windstorm sparring with Timothy, many of his new team are watching with enthusiasm. A new family.. Softly Sayeen muses, " A last ride? I beleive I have one in me. Ironic? No, destined.

Sinder is quiet, on the ride. The trip back is a blur, he remembers canceling his flaming wings before climbing into the vehicle. His mind wanders between his early years with Uncle Sayeen, his becoming a man and the influence of Sayeen, and then his last days with Sayeen. All of these bring tears of his favorite Uncle.

Sinder quickly pens a letter to his Mother and Father.

    "Dear Mom Dad,
Sad news, Uncle Sayeen died today. The same day I joined the First. He remembered you both, and me. It was an honor for me to be with him on his last mission. I’ll be OK, it will take some time for me to…. I don’t know the words. I’ll never be the same, I just have to continue. I will try to gather up the strength some time to go through the whole story. You need to know he died a hero. Like he could be otherwise. He was proud of me when I did my thing, He called me little hotfoot. Sorry for this being short, I’m tearing up. I love you both be safe.
    Sinder Little Hotfoot.
    Phoenix "

He searches for someone to deliver it magically.

Journal Post the death of Uncle Sayeen

“I barely remember arriving and getting out at Hammond. Things are a blur, after that just slight glimpse of people moving around. Trying to help, but knowing they can’t. I look at the others civilians when we arrive at Hammond their tears make mine come on again. I wonder how Uncle Sayeen knew them? Yes, he isn’t my private grief. Occasionally I dare look at the others of our team, they are quiet too just going through the motions. I can’t read Timothy the Metalman. How is he coping. No tears, I wonder if coping for him is especially hard. The blood is still on Fells fist. Merl is taking this hard too. Cory is showing less emotion. I think she has seen to much, in her life. Gale and Qoat seem to be grieving in their own way."

"Eventually a Rift Runner arrives he gathers us up and takes us back to Castle Refuge. More of the same grief as we arrive."

Then there are the debriefings, some of the people, dwarfs, kept asking questions like how many Reapers died and in what blast. Were there different colors. I blew up at the point. “They were dead, I blasted them to hell, flaming hell, their color was burnt charcoal, do you want to see the color. Then there were charcoal cover brodkil, Infantry Bots and charcoal colored Infantry. Not to mention the charcoal colored Enforcer and charcoal colored dead outside, No I didn’t do the charcoal colored the ones outside. But I wished I had. Maybe a great man would still be here.” “I stood up kicked the chair, flames were starting to form, I stormed out I had to blow off a little steam. I took off to be alone. It took an hour until I got myself under control. I reported back but Captain said it was OK, I don’t know how the others did. I wonder if Timothy had videos of everything from his eyes.”

"I wonder what is to become of us. I want to stay with the first. I continue going through the motions of daily routine. Breakfast, lunch, dinner what I had I don’t remember, maybe I didn’t eat."

“Sad news seems to continue, I meet a new team member, Lail Gabbersleaf - Sir Sayeen’s daughter. What do you say to her, nothing about Sir Sayens death unless she ask. I introduce myself as Sinder and comfort her in our mutual grief, I remember the Neural Mace."
“This was his I believe, I picked it up to remember him. But it is yours now.” "I hand it over to her, I touch her hand and feel better.”

"The remembrance, we were in front along with his daughter. It was filled with dignitaries, I knew a few, others I knew about. Some remembered me through Mother and Father. It was a nice gathering for Uncle Sayeen, but I wish it never happened. Really it felt like everyone was looking at us, I could feel their piercing eyes judging us, maybe it was just me."

I will try to keep Uncle Sayeen's views. He was honorable, I will not turn to vengeance! He did not start this fight, we were attacked by the CS, but I will not go out of my way to destroy them."

"From this day on I shall act like a Knight to the best of my ability, I realize that I am human and I may fail at this but I will to the best of my abilities be a Knight. I might not be a Cyber Knight like Uncle Sayeen. But a Knight all the same."

Quick-Flex are known for their short attention spans, so by the time the team gets to the Q-mobile and the drive home, Qoat pushes the memory down to focus on what is in front of him and drive home. He looks over at Fell with his all white hair. It's like he's older in seconds, juice will do that. He throws out a few one liners and quips while driving to no real effect, everyone lost in their own thoughts.

Back at Castle Refuge, Qoat unloads with the rest of the team and with them sees that their fallen comrade is laid to rest. Afterwards, he goes to his quarters, showers, pulls out a clean set of clothes and heads back down to the motor pool.

He carefully washes the Q-mobile to rid it of the road grime. He goes inside and takes inventory of what is still there.

Merlaggon has the Great Sword and pistol, Gale took 2 of the smaller chain swords, Qoat thinks as he goes through the stuff. He looks in his own locker and sees the C-18 Pistol and C-12 Heavy Assault Laser Rifle, "Those should go to someone else who needs them more than me." Unbidden, a thought comes to Qoat, It wouldn't have saved that crazy old knight anyway. He looks at his devices, Maybe I could have saved him if he hadn't rushed past me. I could have boost his abilties or strengthened his body. Man we are dumb sometimes, folly is the right name for us. He negotiated a peace for us to go down that hole, why didn't he do it again?

He takes the remaining items over to the quartermaster. "I have some salvage I'd like to sell back." (OOC: The stuff described above.)

Heading back down he sees the girl, Lail, wandering the hallways. I should say something to her, Qoat thinks. "Hi." Qoat says to get her attention. "Lail, right? I am sorry about your dad, I don't think I understood him until the moment he was gone. If things had gone a little bit differently, I could have saved him." On an impulse, his confidence waivers about his own abilties, and he impulsively says, "There's something I want to give you if you're willing to come with me."

Qoat leads her back down to the Q-Mobile and opens the driver's door. He opens a compartment and pulls out a long wrapped object. "It's my understanding that your not a cyber-knight, but this might still be useful. I was going to try and find away to modify this to work with my devices, but if this could save your life, I'd rather you have it." He unwraps the Fury Blade and holds it out, "Take it and use it well."

    Post by Lail Gabbersleaf »

Lail is a slight diminutive half elven women, she has brown-redish hunstman armor on, a vibro blade, and laser rifle well used hand on her back. Her face is often blank, like she is think of some place off in the unseen distance or she is crying for unknown reasons. Her flowing hair does little to hide the 13 M.O.M. implants sticking out of her head.

Lail Gabbersleaf arrives just as the funeral starts, she had a rough night in the infirmary! She stands at the back a small diminutive wallflower trying to catch a glimpse of the hero that died. It does not immediately click in her brain that the hero and her father are one and the same.

SD_Aurora, in command: This environment is rich with subjects, prepare implantation teams!
SD_Arrel, implantation room, left hand: Extend hand, go , go , go!

Something unknown propels Lail into the crowd, grabbing folks with her left hand and asking a terribly awkward question, “ Have you seen my father? Sayeen Gabbersleaf?” Most folks look at her with either disdain for such an untimely joke by a crazy, or with pity as her eyes are unmistakably her father's. She bumps into Sinder grabbing him with her left hand repeating the question.

SD_Aurora, in command: Like the elder Baron this one is resisting initial implementation. Commence wetwork team 1 and 2.
SD_Ana, Captain of wetwork team: All right you men and ladies, our objective is 1 foot down and straight ahead we do not stop until victory is achieved! Dive, Dive, Dive!

Lail suddenly bursts into tears crying into Sinder’s chest. This close the emblem on the shoulder plating of the huntsman armor is strikingly familiar to Sinder. He has seen it many times hanging in his father’s closet.
“ Its my father isn’t it? He is the one gone? Oh no..” She looks up at Sinder, her piercing blue eyes look eerily like Sir Sayeen’s staring up at him. They seem to be looking into his very soul judging something.

SD_Aurora, in command: Report wetwork team, report!
SD_Ana, Captain of what is left of wetwork: We need to retreat! Ahhh, no no… It's boiling down here, I am all… All that is left.

She grabs onto Sinder tightly during the rest of the ceremony watching in silent awe what kind of man her father was, and what he meant to those in the Tomorrow Legion. When Sinder gives her the neural mace, she clutches it tight. “Thank you so much! I can feel a part of him in here, is that normal… I am some memories of him in here...” She taps M.O.M. implant number 7. “ You seem like a good man, from what I remember, and from all those here today so was he…” She takes the neural mace and presses it back into Sinder’s hand, “ I will take it if that is your wish, but he is somehow part of it…” As the mace hits Sinder’s palm it flashes with a white light brighter than the sun, she lets it go resting in his hand giving it back… “ A fitting match, he must have loved you.”
There are so many people here. It seems like it was yesterday when my father was telling me stories written by the great Walt. Faraway lands, dainty princesses. He used to call me his dainty princess. I can never be him, but I think I can carry on his good work. I would like to understand what he died for.

After the ceremony, Lail takes to the hallways looking for someone who can help her join the Tomorrow Legion. Turns out she runs into a confidant Quick-flex named Qoat. After a brief exchange she follows him to the Q-Mobile.
She gets up enough courage to ask him about his name, “ Qoat, did my dad ever say your full name?” She laughs slightly somewhat nervously, “ When I was growing up, he always had trouble remembering folks that had Q for a first name…” She smiles meekly at him… “ You said before you could have saved him… He saved a lot of people, perhaps it was his time to save you… I think I need to join the team he was on, it was the 1st right? I just do not know who to speak too...”
When he shows and gives her the Fury Blade she looks down at it in reserved silence.

SD_Chernabog, in command! Ahh the power of the blade is ours, the fury, the blade, the power, the power! Mwahahhahaha!

When Lail looks up at Qoat, he has see something is different about her eyes. A dark foreboding power lurks within, and a ferocity much like a caged wild animal bubbles near the surface waiting to be released. But the moment passes, and her too familiar blue eyes are back. Softly with great reverence she murmurs, “ Thank you Master Qoat, I promise you it will be well used, to save my life and those around me.”

When they arrived back at Castle Refuge, Merlaggon spent quite a bit of time by himself trying to get his head around loosing Sayeen. He had known that he should outlive all of his friends, but had not realized that he could lose them at any time.

When it was time for Sayeen’s funeral, Merlaggon assumed his human form and, wearing his freshly cleaned Legion Uniform, made his way to the funeral. Due to his lack of knowledge on how humans, elves, and half-elves burial rites, he stood in the back where he could watch everyone. The old gentleman standing next to him should be knowledgeable about this.
“Why do they have him up there laying down on that stone block? He didn’t like sleeping on stone blocks. He much preferred feather beds, or at least a nice bedroll.”

    “Shhhh!”

“Where did his helmet go? It finishes off his armor and makes him look even more heroic, and if it wouldn’t be on his head, they should at least have had him propped up so it looked like he was holding it.”

    ”SHHHH!”

”Oh, what language are you speaking? I don’t believe I have ever heard it before. Do you know how to speak American? If not, I can also speak Dragonese, Gobblely, Euro, and Faery Speak, and a couple others. Can you speak a bit more in it, I am VERY good at picking up new languages.”

    ”SSSHHHHH!!!!!”

”I still can’t even start at noticing the differences, except for the volume and length. Is that how your language is?”

”BLOODY WELL SHUT UP!!! Are you daft, or do you have no respect for the man? He was a Great Knight who spent his life protecting others, and gave it in the end to protect his team. If you can’t stay quiet and at least PRETEND to know how to behave in polite company, LEAVE!!!”

With tears now streaming down his face, Merlaggon runs a few steps away then transforms back to his normal form and takes to the skies.

The trip back to the castle is long and quite depressing. Everyone is either crying or deep in depression. Timothy tries to write up the after mission report.

Cindr keeled luts of trups and skel bots 2.
When Timothy is done with the written after action report, he'll pass it onto Fell for review.

Fell looks at the report. "Timothy, I don't know how to say this, but do you have any other way to submit an after action report?"

Timothy facial features turn to disappointment as much as they can. "I can use my letter writing program."
    After action report.

First mission out in the field. The target location is a old power plant. Pre-dark ages. There is something down there. (Audio recording attached). En-route was quiet. There is a let line by the plant. We took advantage and recharged. When we arrived, there was a fire fight between the Coalition Company, Identified as the,3rd and a feed magic unit. There where serious fire power on the field. Two UAR enforcers on the Coalition side and two of those demon things on the fed side.

The cyber knight walked right between both sides and got them to cease fire. The cyber knight and Fell meet with both sides. The feddie did as I would expect, sorry and wanted blood, however we did secure enterence into the building unmolested.

It also appears both teams have lost teams in this empower forsaken place, so we are now trying to rescue everyone.

The trip in could have gone better. I took point and stepped on a mini missle. The mind melter came buy and made it fall through the ground.

We moved forward. Came to a ladder. I started to climb down the ladder. It couldn't support my weight and I fell through the floor into a room with junk. We did find a map of the plant and a computer that is older then the cyber knight. As the map was being uploaded into my computer, it caused a glitch in my eyes. This is the third or fourth time I have had problems with my eyes. I'm going to have to get replacements soon.

After I recovered from the ladder, we proceed down the ruins some more. We encountered a magic circle that was used to summon some demonic creatures. Several CS troops and Fed Mag troops where used as sacrifice. It didn't take long for us to find out what was summoned. A herd of Spiny Ravagers attacked us. We were able to kill these creatures quite quickly and efficiently.

The Dragon is in the experiment phase right now, much like a two year old. He's willing to try anything once. After the fight we found out what happened to the summoner. We recovered his spell book. The team was rather more willing to destroy it, rather then use it. We had a brief discussion on what to do with the spell book, It would appear my emotion was a little too much for my eyes to handle.

On the way back, we encountered some broadkill employed by the FOM. The leader of this squad of troops spoke with us and requested the spell book we recovered. Of course the team did not trust her. We had some banter and back and forth with Mrs. Winters. She offered to portal us out of there, and we didn't take it thankfully. While the team moved on, Fell took care of her while the rest of us moved on.

As we moved forward out of the ruins, we ran into skelebots. Mel and Sinder took quick work of them as well. I was teleported to behind them to provide cover, when we where shot from behind. The squad was farther behind that we couldn't see. they also brought an enforcer into the ruins. That damb thing almost brought the building down around us. The grunts where taken care of quickly by Sinder. Mel, myself, the old man, and Q took on the enforcer. Apparently, they where not expecting the dragon. We got in close to neutralize many of its weapons, and attacked it full force. At some point, i'm not sure what happened, the cyber knight accelerated faster then I could register. Next thing I know he's standing in front of me handing a magic marker and just runs outside. After the dragon tears the enforcer to shreds, we head out to the entrance to the power plant. There we found the cyber-knight in a death grip with the commander of the 3rd Battalion Chicago Company. The team is not taking this loss well. There where no survivors. Enclosed are the names of all members of Chicago Company lost in the line of duty. Once we returned to Harmond, we received orders to report back to HQ for disposition.
Timothy transfers the file to the tablet for Fell to review. "Hows that?"

Fell is impressed with how well Timothy can actually speak. "This is very good."

Once back at the castle, Timothy will locate the Drs. office. "I need replacement eyes. My current eyes have malfunctioned and our tech can not repair them any more."

    "Sergeant Severin Fell reporting ma'am."

The Juicer salutes Top Chief Elle of Owls, a beautiful humanoid with owl-like features and wings. She nods at the chemically augmented man noticing how much he appears to have aged since she first sent the Juicer to Illmash. "You are well Severin?"

Caught off guard by the question Fell looks around the room suspiciously, then thinks she must be referring to the recent loss of Sir Sayeen, "I am well ma'am. I will greatly miss Sir Sayeen...Thank you."

Pointing to a chair across the desk from her she motions for Fell to sit. Having a seat herself she misses the uncomfortable dread look on Fell's face. I am not good at sitting still. Dial down, a little, sit man, sit. Sitting and pulling a small coin sized black token out of his pocket Fell toys with the token to relax.

The chair beneath him the large Juicer is thankful he isn't wearing any weapons across his back right now. The only weapon he has on him right now being the TW Flaming Blade. It amuses him to carry it, after taking it from Fatima Winters.

"I asked you to see me Severin because I need to replace, well, fill Sir Sayeen's spot in the First. Additionally I thought it would give us a chance to chat about how team dynamics has been. Everyone getting along?"

Fell frowns. Do I tell her I suspect a Spy? Tell her Cory shuns my personal advances, always. Tell her Qoat is probably a better candidate for being in charge than me.

"Everyone gets along great!" I guess.

Elle of Owls nods, "Good to hear that Severin. I have a request to join the First S.E.T."

Holding up a file she motions to it.

Fell nods. We need a Glitter Boy. Or a Battle Magus. Maybe a new...err another Cyber Knight?

Opening the file Elle sets it down, in order to show the attached photo inside the file. Fell looks down, eyes going wide he stops his first statement, coughs, and then says, "Why this, young nutty girl?"

Elle sits back in her seat eyeing Fell. "She is not so young actually. She is Sir Sayeen's daughter, Lail Gabbersleaf."

Fell drops the token he was holding, reflexes kick in and he catches it before it hits the ground. Looking at the black token for a moment the Juicer slowly sits up straighter and looks the Top Chief in her eyes.

    "Are you serious?"

    "Yes Severin."

"We almost killed her....shi..sure. Daughter? If that's true ma'am then this, Lail is welcome any and every day in the First."

My gods, daughter. Crazie to boot. Wow.

Nodding as Elle of Owls asks the Juicer other additional questions about the activities of the First Fell listens, answers and longs to leave the meeting. After almost an hour, telling his version of events, passing on other team members reports, and requesting a few items for team members Elle of Owls thanks the aged juicer and lets him go on his way with news of a new mission in the works, real soon, for the First SET. Reading up on the few details Elle gave him, Fell makes his way down the hallways of the Castle. Stopping when he hears teh conversation between Qoat and Lail, the Juicer remains out of sight and in earshot.

That is one fancy sword Qoat.

As Qoat and Lail part ways Fell moves out to speak to the girl, woman, she is a young woman.

"Excuse me Lail. I hope your head is feeling better ... after those rascals ran you over, glad we were there to get you medical aid...uh."

Fell holds out the black token, coin he has been carrying, giving it to Sayeen's daughter.

"Its official Lail, you are one of the First SET now. Here is your token. Welcome. I gave this exact token to your father, now I am passing it onto you. I also. Also I have a set of whats called Techno Wizard Battle Mage Armor I think you might like it you want it. I'll wipe it down, clean it, and bring it to you in the morning. I am calling all members of the First to a meeting in the morning. So, see you then. Its getting late so unless you need something I will let you be."

Fell reaches out to pat her on the shoulder, freezes, oh please do not recite any poetry to me. Fell then holds his hand out to shake hands with her before heading to his quarters for sleep.

Unknown Micronian soldier, location Fell: I don't know man, this guy has somthing going through his system... it just wiped out team 4 and 5... I just want to go home man...

Lail shakes her head for a moment, her 13 M.O.M. Implants glisten beneath her hair. Her young face looks pained for a moment before she speaks quietly to Fell, " I will do what I can for the 1st, so many folks loved my father, I think he would want me with you... Thank you so very much for the gift! You should know I might need some help...". She laughs walking away from Fell, " I just got back to the world."

She heads outside, and climbs up the castle walls and finds a perch near the top. She sits there watching the sunset. If she catches sight of Merlaggon she howls at him in glee. what wonderful freedom!

    Sinder meets Lail Gabbersleaf
Something unknown propels Lail into the crowd, grabbing folks with her left hand and asking a terribly awkward question, “ Have you seen my father? Sayeen Gabbersleaf?” Most folks look at her with either disdain for such an untimely joke by a crazy, or with pity as her eyes are unmistakably her father's. She bumps into Sinder grabbing him with her left hand repeating the question.
Sinder supports her he can’t help but have tears roll down his cheeks, “I’m Sinder, Sinder Baron."

Sinder holds her tightly, and rocks a little he doesn’t know why it seems to be part of genic conditioning he has, “I was one of those that loved him and was with him when he died, this is Sir Sayeen Gabbersleaf’s funeral.” “ what has happened to her all these implants , they must have been monsters, poor girl.”

"Feeling the part of him in there might be a psychic connection, something drew it to me, I wasn’t sure why."
“Sir Sayeen she is back, You have not failed, I shall try to make her happy.”

When the mace flashes Sinder is in awe, “I will take it, and thank you.” Sinder smiles at the gift. “I think he loved. me as he loved you. He was considered part of my family and now you are part of the family.”

Sinder supports her for the rest of the ceremony making sure she is OK to stand by herself. He stays in the background until he is sure she is OK. When she sees her talk to Qoat he sees a different lady or young girl. she seems to have adjusted to this part of her life..

Sinder heads out to get some fresh air. He doesn't want to be alone but doesn't want to be with loud groups.

    Re: Interlude: A Fallen Hero

    Post by Gale Wingstorm »

Gale never strays too far from the group, but he remains somber and seperate on the journey back to Hammond, flyng within view and paying the attention he needs to pay while looking out for threats. Birds can't cry but his feathers are tight against his body and his posture shows how deeply troubled he is over the turn of events. More than anyone else on the team, Gale liked the knight, even when he was a noble and doddy pain in the ass.

When it comes time for a memorial Gale finally breaks his silence and solitude for a brief eulogy. "All who live die, and some are quickly forgotten. Not all live long, and not all live well." He pauses and lowers his head to take a breath and steady himself before standing tall. "You lived long, you lived well, and though I only knew you briefly you will not soon be forgotten. May you find peace and joy in the hereafter, Sir Knight."
