No one rolled for this required roll. I’ll give it to you but it’s going to cause a problem.
Turning onto the Oka River at the ruins of Nizhniy Novgorod is more difficult than expected. While the rivers are much wider since the Great Cataclysm the ruins of the once great city peeks out from beneath the surface creating a treacherous mega-crete reef. Fortunately, Steelbrok and Radeclife are able to help find a way through but the going is extremely slow. On a few occasions the boat gets stuck in a narrow canal or scrapes bottom.

Just as the group is about to clear the outskirts of the former city and settle into more smooth sailing the ship shudders as one of the rotos hits an old steel girder with the horrifying screech of metal on metal. The ship still moves, but makes a terrible racket. Palach can feel the boat list slightly to the left as the mangled rotors spin unevenly.
Vehicle Fatigue
The ship takes one level of Vehicle Fatigue. Fatigue affects vehicles as it does people, with recovery requiring an hour of work and a Repair roll.
It’s possible to press onward, but the damaged rotor does need some work.

The boat running over the metal throws Alexander to the deck. Chto za chert? (What the hell?) Getting, up Alexander checks the immediate area for leaks. Po krayney mere, zdes' nichego ne slomano (At least nothing here is broken). Alexander proceeds to get with everyone else to see what needs to be done.

Once the team locates the broken rotor Alexander assesses what he can do to help, i yesli vy ne vozrazhayete, my mogli by vytashchit' metall iz vody i ispol'zovat' yego dlya drugikh remontov.YA ne mekhanik, navernoye, ya mogu pochinit' shest. (I'm no mechanic, I can probably fix the pole, and if you don't mind, we could probably take the metal out of the water and we can use it for other repairs.)

Alexander will help lift the heavy pieces and help with any repairs.

If the party agrees to grab the metal piece out of the water, Alexander will set it aside in the hold next to his work area for when it's needed.

Bryan helps as much as he can. Mostly he uses his jetpack to bring materials from one end of the ship to the other, helping cut down the time it would take to move everything, and helping those doing the repairs avoid fatigue from all that walking around as well.

Passes the last bits of the obstacle up to Bryan them hauls himself back aboard.

"Right, lads, maybe we need to start paying a bit more attention to the route from now on. Next time that shapechanger and his mutt come back aboard, they need to be told we want regular reports on what's ahead. I'll take over Navigation, should have done earlier, apologies for that. Rockin' the Boat

Setting to shore for a moment to repair the group fans out for a security watch. As Palach works he feels the ship shift underneath him as if a storm surge was pushing against the hull. Suddenly massive tentacles burst up from beneath the waves, one stanches Par into the air before anyone has time to react. The writhing things probe about the deck looking for others to pull beneath the icy Russian river.

Palach hears the scuffle above and drops everything, moving quickly to the deck. @steelbrok is already swiping at the tentacle holding @Par, so Palach moves to defend @Makenna Griggs. He pulls his vambraces and charges, taking two vicious swipes at the subaquatic horror. The

Alexander being focused on hammering the propeller didn't notice the tentacles until @Par was taken. Chto za chert? Kakoy-to rechnoy monstr plotiny? DLYA VAS BOL'SHE NET !!! (What the hell? Some dam river monster? NO MORE PEOPLE FOR YOU!!!) Alexander grabs his Giant Golden Hammer and swings on the tentacle that grab @Par.

The beat of Radcliffe's wings falter a moment as he sees the huge tentacles burst out of the water and snatch up the strange wooden man. Tucking in his wings he dives towards the bow of the boat, leveling off to streak down the length of the ship gathering his energy.

This beast lives in an icy river so let's see how it likes a little desert heat! As he reaches the center of the ship Radecliffe unleashes elemental fury on whatever it was while also taking care to spare the others

So if I understand the power (and modifiers) correctly everything up to 40 yards (20 inches) from the center of the ship will suffer a -2 for all trait rolls for the duration. Everyone in the party that is still alive is excluded from the effect. :)

Almost immediately a hot wind begins to blow across the ship and over the surface of the water while the water itself steams as though they suddenly were sailing through a hot spring. Launching himself back into the air Radecliffe launches the full force of his desert storm at the third tentacle in an attempt to distract it from snatching anyone one else

Oof, Right in the Tentacles

The group fights back with ferocity as Par is dragged toward the icy waters of the river! However, the massive tentacles seems to be able to take a beating and food is scarce in these wastes. Driven by hunger the beast beneath the surface drags Par under the water toward an unseen maw!
Dramatic Task, Save Par
We will do this quickly over 3 rounds. Roll 1d4 for your card, a 1 is a club, on a four roll again, if it is also a four take a Joker. You can use any skill at -4 and need 1 token per player each round. Token represent tentacles you manage to kill, destroy, maim, etc. enroute to pulling Par from the waters. Failing the task means par is eaten alive by the river beast!

Bryan takes to the air, the flame from his jetpack leaving a trail of melted ice on the ship's deck. He makes a beeline towards the closest tentacle, but for a scary moment the jetpack just stops, sending him falling towards the frozen waters. By some miracle it kicks back on at the last moment, and the erratic movement seems to confuse the creature, a tentacle zigging when it should have zagged.

Palach races around the deck, hacking this way and that at the writhing tentacles. A

left by @Bryan's jetpack exhaust causes Palach to lose his footing. In a stroke of luck, this caused a tentacle to miss a certain death grab as Palach's torso dips below the swipe. He takes full advantage though,

At the Castle

Jose brings his gear and other belongings. The well-muscled, tall, human is ready to go meet his new team members. He was briefed on them. Or who went out.
I should be ok with them.

As the Shifter at the Castle looked at a pool of water, to make sure of the location of the 1st SET, mages from high above came into view in the pool of water. Suddenly in the pool large tentacles appeared grabbing people on the boat or at least trying to.
Jose speaks up as he starts to transform to his Were Panther form, “Get me down on the deck so I can help. Then push my gear thru after me.”

A smile comes across his face, if you tell when a panther is smiling. This is going to be a good fight and against a monster! I heard the 1st has a reputation of finding trouble, and now their reputation it seems is going around the world.

Jose Jumps through the opening and onto the open deck when the Shifter tells him. Followed by his gear.

Radecliffe's efforts work better than expected as his hot winds begin to interact with the native cold air. More and more debris are picked up by the increasing winds pummelling any exposed portion of the monster. I'm going to end up with a damned tornado on my hands if I'm not careful!

Feisty Food

Tentacles write and grasp but this predator is not used to prey with teeth of their own! Debris flies around, making things miserable for the tentacles, and thena rift opens above the ship and a giant cat-man falls onto the deck. Accustomed to the bizarre the group fights on and manages to hack, slash, shoot, and bit their way out of trouble. The tentacle holding Par reels in pain, loosening its grip on the wooden man who falls onto the deck of the ship with a loud thunk and the sound of snapping twigs.

The tentacles withdraw into the water and Par lies motionless on the deck, a tangle of branches. Also, a new beast stands on the deck then in the sudden silence another thud his the deck as his gear falls down from the closing portal.

The tree man is badly mangled it will take some healing to stablize him but he will need a magical healer of some renown to rouse him again.

On the Deck

(Speaks English with a Spanish Accent)

Jose, the hulking Half Human and Half Panther looks around as the tentacles wiggle around the deck and then start withdrawing in to the dark water quickly. He chews then swallows the little bit left in his mouth and his claws retract and he wipes his mouth off with his paws. He looks around at the others. Then he quickly spots the Walking Stick, Par, and ask, “Is he going to be, OK? It looks like he needs help Quickly!, and I know I don’t have that training or abilities to fix him. I do have a first Aid kit in my bags there.”

Jose quickly goes fore his bags and starts getting the survival First Aid kit Out. “Here it is.”ith other animals but Hate Were Wolves He hands it to anyone that can use it.
“I’ll hold off on the introductions until he is stable.”

After they do whatever they can to get the Walking Stick stabilized, Jose will explain things. he changes over to his human form He starts off with his name, "My name is Jose Kerske Martinez, the Lady Owl sent me here to be part of the 1st SET. I tell you I found it vey Hard not to attack the Owl, her looking so much like a Bird but I digress. I have heard a lot about the 1st in the Colorado area but alas our paths have never crossed. I think they sent me here to help but you all seem quit capable of taking care of yourselves. So, As you saw I am Human but also a Were Panther, Puma, Mountain Lion, Catamount, Cougar, Ghost Cat and several more names. I am a fighter and hunter and also a linguist. A finder of lost items usually the enemies." a smile and a wink come to his face as he continues. "Ah I am good at sneaking into their areas."

"So What are we doing here? Not on a fishing trip true?" He pauses and looks about, "Oh I don't like Cities and I might need to wander off and hunt, how is the boar here?" No, I don't use a litter box. Yes, on the cat nip and Alcohol. No Roaring, that is the big Cats mine is a loud growl. Yes, I go in the water. I get along w other animals but hate Were Wolves. As the monster's tentacles retreats into the water Radecliffe glides back down and alights on the deck before resuming his human form. I am going to like this gift from the old mystic I think. Taking a moment to stroke the pendant fondly he then cocks an eye at the newcomer. "Do you always talk so much? You should try taking a breath once in a while. I'm sure it would help."

Leaving the cat man to the others Radecliffe turns his attention to the wood man's broken form and he's grateful he still senses a lifeforce flicking within. Sinking to a seated position on the deck next to Par he takes Par's hand in his own. "Don't worry wood man I don't think the Earth Mother is done with you yet."

Closing his eyes he reaches into Par's form feeding him Gaia's healing energy.

Par for the Course

Having fended off the river monster for now, the group takes a moment to get acquainted with their sudden arrival and Par's situation. As the boat meanders down the narrow river it slowly sinks in that their quest could be in jeopardy as Par's mystical abilities were needed to forge the manacles to hold the Nightingale. He will need to be woken, or another means found to perform the creation ritual. Pondering these things in silence the crew spots a small village on the river. Small water vessels are dock and the buildings and structure are a hodgepodge of salvaged materials, stone, and wood as if someone dropped a twenty-first century junkyard on top of a fantasy village.

A bell tolls from a small church and people begin to come onto the streets to gawk at the boat. A few villagers rush to gather weapons and armor, nothing that can really threaten the group but enough to be troublesome. The villagers step back as the doors to the small church open and a fat man in a long black cassock and funny hat emerges and waddles down toward the riverbank.

Palach maneuvers the ship towards the shore, reversing the engines to stop their momentum, and finally shutting them down when the boat is stable. The fat priest eyes the group, eyes widening as he observes the group with his mystic senses, and widening even further at the sight of Thursday. He gulps deeply the breathes a heavy sigh of relief when Palach asks about trading. Apparently he is more used to things being taken by force.

He utters some words, then speaks to the group - each hearing him in their own language.

"I am Basil the Blessed. We have precious little trade I am afraid. Most of what we have has been carried off by demons. A pack of them have been tormenting us for months, stealing our food and taking our women. My hope is that you, mighty warriors, are the answer to our prayers. That we might be delivered from this torment and find food enough to last."

He sighs deeply and points to the church, "The demons cannot enter there. What food and valuables we have are stored there if you wish them as payment." He bows deeply, "But it is my fervent prayer you have arrived not seeking payment but the opportunity to do good."

Basil the Blessed looks pleased at the group's enthusiastic response to slaying demons. He claps his hands and a few villagers scamper off to collect some measly potato vodka. It is terrible and strong!

After drinking to seal the deal Basil invites the group into the small church while he does his best to describe the situation. The church is well maintained done in an orthodox style with lots of colour paintings and iconography. Basil brings out a tome and leafs through it before landed on pages with illustrations.

"Before the great winter people thought these books were myths or silly religious tales for the weak minded. If the people of the so-called golden age could see these things walking their faith might be increased!"

He points to a large wintry looking figure.

"Old Man Morozko is a demon lord and King of the Frost Demons. He does not deign to bother with mortals most of the time, but his children do. One of his children has gathered the rabble of the area and made a strong group. Too strong for us. Before the The Morozko arrived we could fend off the occasional lesser being. Now, they hunt in a pack and we are powerless to stop them. They demons not soldiers and The Morozko only gathers them for attacks. Mostly they roam about the eastern forests attacking travelers."

"The Morozko is powerful being of cold, but he will burn brightly under the torch!"

Radecliffe attempted to frown as he heard @Jose Kerske mental voice until he realized a bird's beak doesn't work well for that sort of thing.

"Yes, I am here. I will scout the woods around the village for the demons while the rest of you talk to the fat one unless the metal one would rather try to shoot me."

In his own thoughts Radecliffe wonders if he would ever get use to dealing with so many people all the time. In the past he spent so much of his time alone being around others so much is very difficult to get used to. Pushing aside those thoughts for another time Radecliffe glides back and forth

Listening to the holy man, Alexander quietly considers his options. We could use one more weapon, let the recon do their job, I will attempt to make another flaming weapon.

Alexander produces a flaming sword. "Predstavlyayu vam zapasnoye oruzhiye." (I present you a spare weapon of mine to use.)

After the sword is taken, Alexander will look at the priest. "Ne mogli by vy ukazat' mne na vashu mestnuyu Kuznyu? U vas yest' med', bronza, serebro ili zhelezo?" (Could you point me to your local Kuznya? Do, you have any Copper, Bronze, Silver or Iron?). The list was asked in order of preference as far as Alexander knew. With Copper and Bronze, a flaming weapon can be made. Silver and Iron could be metals the creatures are possibly weak to and would be just as useful.

With the Holy mans response, Alexander will look at the party. "Yest' li u kogo-nibud' predpochteniya v otnoshenii oruzhiya? YA sdelayu odin, i my smozhem ispol'zovat' yego zavtra."(Does anyone have a preference for a weapon? I will have one made that we can use this time tomorrow.) With the response from the party, the mystic smith will go to the forge.

If there is a black smith that is working Alexander will get his attention. "Prostite, ser, ya Aleksandr, stranstvuyushchiy kuznets Savroga. Moya partiya soglasilas' atakovat' demonov. Nam nuzhno bol'she oruzhiya, kotoroye naneset im vred. Alexander will allow the Smith to watch and help if he wishes to.

Taking the materials that the town is willing to give and the weapon of choice being chosen by the party, Alexander will start his fast forge with a prayer. "O velikiy kuznets bogov. Pozhaluysta, naprav' menya i blagoslovi eto oruzhiye, chtoby zashchitit' etikh smirennykh lyudey ot demonov, kotoryye kradut tu samuyu pishchu, v kotoroy oni nuzhdayutsya. Pozhaluysta, ukrepi moyu ruku i zakachay metall, chtoby on stal ostrym orudiyem pravosudiya."(O great smith of the gods. With the blessing pray said, Alexander will spend the next 24 hours toiling at the forge making the weapon of choice to bring justice to the demons.

Basil is pleased that the group will help and offers what meagre resources the town has at their disposal.

”We do not have flamethrowers or military hardware. This is not America where everyone has a bunker in their basement. I can offer a humble blessing on some of your weapons, if your faith is strong then the weapons will be too!”

The rustic village does have a rudimentary blacksmith who seems a little perturbed about sharing his forge but relents. Copper is actually in supply as the town is built on the bones of a Golden Age village. Pipes, wires, and other copper scrap is melted down and combined with tin to create a suitable bronze alloy for Alexander to work with.

Getting the Bear off the boat deck takes a while, but the villagers pitch in. There are definitely some strong hewers of wood and drawers of water in their midst. Just as the ATV is readied the skies open up and it begins to rain, lightning flashes, and thunder rumbles.

All the villagers make a sign of the cross in unison.

Thursday looks to the sky as the storm begins. Eyes looking at the sky, nose pointed up to smell the cold water falling down. Being a Dragon, usual weapons aren't really necessary - but he does like his shinies. Thursday does have the fancy shiny claws he was given to enhance his attacks. It would be nice to have a bunker, I could hide all my shinies in there and sleep all day. Does that mean other bunkers could have hoards?! We need to go bunker hunting when this is all over!

I am usually the one that will go up to the enemy and try to cause as much damage as possible, Up close and personal like." A feral smile crosses his face. Beside having ones Teeth and Claws with flames might detract me , I might even cough up a furball!

Radecliffe returns to the village and resumes human form with the others. "I have scouted ahead from the air and demon trail easy to follow in the open. Once it leads into the forest I couldn't see any sign of them. Will have to follow them in on foot."

He declines the clerics offer to bless his weapons. Gaia will give me the weapons I need when the time comes. If it comes to it the silver buckshot loaded in his shotgun should do the trick.

Par groans in his mind, nd out loud a small sound escapes his mouth. The sound of rain on the roof of the house and a small bit of light hitting his eyes was warm. He could sense some energy around him and thought it must be mom baking something...

But as his head begin to clear he remembered something more. He joined the Legion, was assigned to a set as an arcane specialist. The last he recalled was traveling to a frozen demon land. But all the memories where so confusing. As he tried to sit up, he realized someone has secured him in a bed, secured him so well that it took him quite some time to clear his head and sit up. Tary stares blankly at Jose. Mostly it's because he did not expect to see some sort of mutant were-cat whatever in Russia, and that the mutant were-cat whatever spoke Russian just took things to a whole other level. He should know better by now, of course, this is the world he lived in. And for that, he was extremely grateful for DB-B1.

Humanoid, human adjacent even, Tary stands roughly 6' tall with a full face, it has cheerful written all over it. Shaggy blond hair covers his ears and occassionally gets in his eyes. It's not thick enough to fully hide his pointy elf ears. Sure he's wearing armor, but Tary holds his helmet in his left hand and talks twice as much with his right had to make up for it. His voice is smooth, charming and most people find it pleasant, even when he's rambling off about extrusions or rare earth metals.

No one would call DB-B1's voice charming, he's far to mild mannered and cautious even as a speaker. But it still is friendly and generally helpful. It looks goofy though. Normally, DB-B1 is a small brushed aluminum droid with an oblong head, spindly arms and legs and a bulky torso. But currently, Tary has fashioned a custom suit of traveling armor for the droid. It now looks swaddled in ballistic cloth and armored plates.

The droid responded first in Russian with a greeting, then proceeded in American. "Hello, thank you for not shooting us. Yes, well, we are not at all looking to cause trouble..."

Tary cuts DB off at this point, launching into his standard messaging, "I'm Tary, that's my partner DB-B1. We are in fact here to fix trouble. Mechanical, electrical, any combination, robots, cars, trucks, bikes, we can fix it. Beat it into shape or fine tuning, we can do it." He puts a hand up to his face like he's telling Jose a secret, "I like to think we left all the trouble back in America, know what I mean? These damn pointy ears are not worth the trouble they cause, right?"

DB-B1 hovers a few feet higher, getting eye level with the average humanoid. It waves a spindly arm towards the Mountaineer and says, in its slightly mechanical voice, "We have several people traveling with us as well, they have proven useful companions, and should they choose to continue in our company, they will be happy to lend their assistance as well. Unless that causes a problem, of course."

The somewhat scruffy looking fellow standing quietly by Tary and DB-B1 nods several times in agreement, a serious look on his face.

Hovering back to just a few inches above ground, DB-B1 looks at the wolves standing a few feet away. "They follow me and generally obey, but they are wild animals and I find their connection to me very strange."

Next to DB-B1, Tary is trying to look cool about the whole thing, but he knows (DB-B1 also knows) that the promise adventure and even more so the promise of Simply Doing the Right Thing, has him supercharged and ready to join this quest. Finally, he says as much, "I, we, would love to help. Sign us up. By the way, who's in charge around here?"

He and the droid have a quick sidebar after the weather warning. "We'll pack our people up in the ATV and move it close by, if there's a place to park it, okay? DB-B1 uses his communicator (it looks kind of funny perched on his head, but it works) and radios back to the vehicle. A few moments later, they start packing up and break camp.

Jose listens and watches the group, he has a good feeling about them so far but time will tell. Jose is in Heavy Enchanted Armor, with Branaghan Special Armored Overcoat over it. He seems youth full and is tall 6'3', and he seems to be well built or the armor seems really large. He is clean shaved with light brown hair medium length,no scars visible (there aren't any).

After Tary finishes, "Elf I help some get out after the Tolkeen fiasco. Trouble Yea it tends to follow me also. You're a fixer? That might help on the barge we have. "

When DB-B1speaks about his friends, "Yea it is better they get closer to us. No Saying what might be luring in them there Woods."

When he says sign him up, Jose replies back, "Well I'm the new guy on the team I think the others will want all of you."
Jose clicks the Radio on, "Hey Steelbrok, Radecliffe, Palach, got some new comers wanting to join us we're coming in don't shoot and tell the others we are coming in."

Rainy Day People
Two groups of Americans, and one Brit, collide in the Russian wilderness. Something unprecedented perhaps, or a common occurrence in the topsy turvy world of rifts, monsters, and demons. As the crews exchange pleasantries Palach spots someone running toward them, a young woman dressed as the others in the village. She is making no efforts to disguise herself and, in fact, looks quite distressed and panicked.

Radecliffe knows little of Russian lore, but what he does know is their main piece of advice, especially during storms, is "be wary of strangers". Often times demons pose as others to get close and strike. Now here is a group of strangers and a young woman in distress approaches.

Having gotten dressed Par walked out looking for the others. The fog clearing from his mind was refreshing, in a way as Par looked around trying his best to orient himself.
He begins to ask. "What happened, did I miss something..." But the question lingers as he notices someone running forward towards the party. His mind divided, who are these others, what is happening.

Palach smiles at @Tary Jones, a smile that doesn't quite reach his eyes. He stands about 5'10 with an average build. He is clad in warm clothing typical of a resident of Russia. He has a particle beam rifle slung across the front of his body. Interestingly, he doesn't appear to be wearing armor. His English is fair, but his Russian accent is thick. "Is no trouble. Welcome to Russia! I am Palach. Is no leader, but cyborg talks most." He points at @steelbrok as if you couldn't differentiate the only cyborg in the group. "We go looking for demons bothering village. You come with? Will be fun. More guns are better."
He spins around to address @Par. "Hey! You are not dead. Is good. Maybe plant just need good Russian sunlight..." He stops short of an extended diatribe on photosynthesis when he spots a woman running from the woods. He scans the woman both with his normal senses, as well as his new magic goggles, but

Typical, all these magicians with their so-called special senses and none of them sings out time to do some damage at a distance, Steelbrok gives Vera and affectionate pat and slings her, drawing Vlad, newly blessed by the local priest, and preparing for battle.

After glancing to make sure the Americans are doing as they're told, Steelbrok raises Vlad, hearing the great sword hum as it cuts through the air, the extra length going to be handy against whatever's coming.

Tary and DB were getting a pretty good feeling about this group. It takes a lot for them to not like someone, but these travelers seem a pretty good bunch. DB-B1 screeched a little when Palach mentions more guns. Tary shrugs it off, "We've got a couple gun folk with us, but we're really much better at fixing things."

Introductions are cut short!

"DB! Finish up with Jose and his people," Tary says. He then taps the vagabond's shoulder, "Come on Wade, let's go check on that person! She needs help!" Tary can only interpret the woman's behavior as someone in need, and aiding those in need was never in question.

DB-B1 hovers quickly back to the Mountaineer and starts gathering the followers. They aren't well coordinated, but everyone moves with alacrity. The camp is broken quickly and the big vehicle on the move towards the small settlement.

Tary and Wade stop short and wait for the woman to approach. They don't want to spook her more. Of course, Tary's Russian is pretty much non-existent. So he does the best he can, talking slowly and loudly, "DO...YOU....NEED...HELP...?" He gestures with his hands in big motions meant to be comforting.

Par looks at Palach, before saying outload to everyone "How long was I out of it? I do not even know what happened and am just trying to figure it all out." Not having gained his bearing yet, the whole scene felt surreal to Par in a way he was not familiar with.
