Hindrances
  • • Giri (Major): Getting established in Chicago with a new identity was expensive. You owe 60,000 to a “generous” benefactor. He remains generous as long as you pay your payments, like clockwork. 1000 cyptos a week.
    • Heroic (Major): Helping save the day is simply in her DNA. Whether its from her original imprint or some quirk she picked up, Kassandra is known as the kind to save the day.
    • Ruthless (Minor): Bioroids have very limited empathy programming. They do anything to accomplish their goals, but usually avoid true harm to those that aren’t direct opposition.
    • Secret (Major): You’re a bioroid. This usually changes to Wanted (Major, Section One or Manticore) or Enemy (Major) when revealed.
Phobia: Bio-Horrors (Minor) (GM given Hindrance)
Edges and Racial Abilities
  • • Street Samurai: Street Samurai are mercenaries with hearts of gold (not literally; golden hearts are heavy and inefficient). They aren’t as common as fiction claims, but they are trustworthy. A samurai starts with Street Cred d8 and gets a free Reroll on failures when using Street Cred
    • Attractive: +1 to Persuasion and Performance.
    • Low Light Vision and Visual Magnification: Eyes are altered to work better in low light conditions, eliminating the penalties for Dim and Dark illumination (but not Pitch Darkness). The user’s vision can also focus from incredible distances, magnifying images up to 50 times.
    • Martial Artist & Brawler: Toughness +1, Unarmed Fighting +1, fists and feet count as Natural Weapons, add d6 damage die to unarmed Fighting attacks.
Common Bond: Share Bennies with the Team (GM given benefit)

3/3 Bennies, 0 Conviction, 0 Wounds, and 0 Fatigue
Beginning 3 0 Conviction
  • Expenditures
Wounds: 0/3 (-0 to all rolls)
Fatigue: 0/2 (-0 to all rolls)
• Tier 2 TAP
  • • IDS Tier: 2
    • Active Memory Sectors (AMS): 4
    • Hacking Penalty: -1
    • PAN Range: 6” (36 feet)
    • Toughness: 5
    • Hardness: 7
    • Modules: 4
    • Skill Die (IDS base skill die for Hacking and Notice rolls): d6
Basic VR Headgear
Requirements: Characters must have a Tendril Access Processor rated at Tier 1 or higher.
Performance: Standard headgear will get you there, but you’ll likely wish it didn’t. The VR experience with this tech is baseline. Many areas are pixelated to such an extent that it’s sometimes hard (at the GM’s Discretion) to determine what they are without a successful Notice roll. Digital food tastes off; it’s like the neural processors can’t figure out how something should taste, so everything tastes like chicken. Oftentimes characters will experience lag, especially if they are in heavily populated worlds such as The Deep, or any of the worlds which make up the Deadlands Universe. There is an upside to having this gear, though. You can’t feel pain and thus, you ignore any instances of Fatigue (Bumps and Bruises) while in VR.
Lag: Any time a character with this headgear engages in virtual combat or other activity (such as Chases or Dramatic Tasks) which stresses the headgear’s processors she runs the risk of incurring lag. If her Action Card is a Club, she has become lagged. She has the Hesitant Hindrance for the next 3 rounds.

Cryptos on hand: C$125

Lifestyle (d6)
Lifestyle - Getting By: Decent clothing and a handful of nice outfits. Built in shower. Mostly fast food or bar food, but enough to stock a fridge and cook a decent meal now and then. Closed in Garage for car.
Home: You stay in a two story townhouse where the bottom floor is a basic office and the top is a one bedroom studio. It has a one car garage out back where the car is kept. There is an elevator that allows the bicycle to be stored upstairs. Located on the edge of Naperville in a commercial district, coming and going at any time of the day is more or less expected. The office has no hours posted, but you use it to handle meetings with clients you can’t get to meet you elsewhere. You do not advertise that you have anything but basic storage upstairs.

Kit, Downside Bartender
Image
Kit is a chatty neko girl that has been bartending the Downside for the past several years. She's also the only staff member most regulars are familiar with. She has cat ears and a tail in typical neko fashion, but she is also fully decked out in trendy 'nique. For a small woman working a bar alone in a bad neighborhood, she seems completely at ease with her job.

Background

Post by Black Swan »

Manticore is a hidden subsidiary of Chimera with a particular subset of customers - government black ops programs. Kassandra was a part of Section One. Ostensibly it was a counter-terrorism organization, but none of the operatives were volunteers. All were kidnapped, usually as children, until Manticore entered the picture. Utilizing hypnotic training backed by information input by TAP, they conditioned their operatives minds and taught them a good core of instinctive abilities. And then they let Manticore copy those poor souls into custom made bioroids.

Kassandra doesn’t know whose memories she has, and given how much of a jumble they are at times, she doesn’t much care. She gets the random nice memory of a birthday party or sneaking off to enjoy a recreational chemical and the company of a hot boy or girl and it gives her a warm feeling. But she’s too busy surviving to worry about that crap. Besides she’s not sure it’s not just an implant. She also gets flashes of rigorous combat training as a child and subliminal and hypnotic training, plus data pouring into her TAP. The past is such a jumble, she has moved on. She has clear memories of her time since “awakening.”

Kassandra was a part of the first “graduating class” and was considered a success. Until she was put in the field, where she constantly questioned (though followed) orders. When Kassandra met Emi, the new infiltrator had just been added to the training regimen. As a potential partner the two were paired for training. They proved to be quite good together. Despite prohibitions to the contrary, the two became as close to friends as one was allowed to be in Section One. Kas genuinely like the small assassin, and cultivated her to view loyalty positively. Basic human decency was all it took. No masterful deception, just being nice to the new kid.

The events leading to her fourth and final mission are jumbled in her head. She blames the broken conditioning and trauma from the explosion (she did a header out of an exploding helicopter into Lake Michigan, right after her target and companion). Faces are fuzzy. She remembers talking to Emi about getting them both out, but she doesn't remember what she did. She knows she was just about to complete her objective when the helicopter blew. She even knew she was prepared for the drop into lake Michigan with a wet suit on under her dress. And yet, its clear she did not come out on top. She barely made it to shore, and passed out from wounds sustained. Had it not been for her self repair abilities, she likely would have died.

The ordeal broke her conditioning and Kas is trying to find a way to survive and thrive. And maybe figure out who tried to kill her, and why. She’s figured out her “companion” was not the target. She's heard Emi's version of the tale, and it even seems right. But it's not - there is no exploding helicopter, no swimming to shore. THAT she knows is right. It's not like she had an active part in Emi's actual escape. But if she did anything to help her lithe friend, she can't remember it and its frustrating.
Despite her seeming biological origin, Kas IS a traditional bioroid - implanted personality and all. But she has those memories for a reason, and is a spitting image of the "original." Is she the original, reuploaded, is she a brainscan of the original that went native, or has she been allowed to go "rogue" so the folks watching her can see what she would do in that situation. Regardless, her memories of Emi are real, but incomplete because of the brain scan implantation process.

Since joining the community in the shadows of Chicago, she has made inroads. Using her ability to infiltrate has turned her into a fixer of some repute. Her moniker of Black Swan is a reference to the one particularly spectacular ass kicking she gave a tourist. With her ability to jump and her athletic and martial prowess, people who watched her fight referred to her as a raven or crow until someone scoffed. "If you haven't ever seen a swan kicking ass, there it is: graceful, beautiful, and will fuck you up if you forget that swans are the meanest birds that exist. No way am I screwing her over without one hell of a lot of backup." Black Swan is ruthless, efficient, honest (as much as anyone can be), and truly likes helping people. She's also resourceful and a bad ass. Some call liken her to an honorable street samurai, but Kassandra herself just presents herself as what she is: a force to be reckoned with.
