11.2. Outside of Town (Tyraxas and Norona)

Post by Pursuit »

Light’s Alive
Both Tyraxas and Norona awake in the morning of Deezy’s trial with a compulsion drawing them outside of town. Like the call of nature, they can suppress it if they choose, but relief will not come unless they go and… handle things.

Though they may approach from different paths, ultimately they each arrive at an unremarkable patch of swamp far enough outside the outpost’s borders as to be secluded, but not so far as to feel unsafe.

There, the blue light of genius locus the swamp appears to them again, alighting briefly on Norona’s shoulder. It pulses in what you can both feel is a happy kind of a greeting, and then images and feelings begin to slip into each of your minds.

First, you see a vast strip of land, full of concrete and tunnels and odd, old construction, with the swamp growing all throughout. Shapes and creatures are moving about among the buildings, and a feeling of unease and decay permeates from the place. Your point of view shifts and soars above the gound, and you can see the remnants of an old castle with humanoid shapes all around. The light of the moon shines down, and you can see something light up a brilliant blue. You cannot be sure, of course, but it has the same look as one of Kuikku’s psi-swords. Something strikes you, and your view goes dark.

Then, your point of view abruptly changes. You are hovering high above the ground from a humanoid perspective, but a bit lower than Tyr is used to while in dragon form. Brush flies past you as you bob and speed through the swamp, and you can hear the sounds of something monstrous pursuing you. Giant footsteps reverberate… wait, those are your footsteps!

You have somehow been given the point of view of a dinosaur, fleeing from some predator. A fierce roar comes from behind and a familiar blast of shadow, as if an inky comet, enters your view, crashing through the foliage around you. Your point of view falls, colliding with the ground and twisting around until you see something resembling the shadow beast you last saw flying along a ley line and away from the party.

Much larger than the remnant you last saw fleeing, this version of the beast is more solid, more scaley, and all-in-all, more draconic. It snorts in derision, opens its maw, and unleashes a gout of shadow that shuts your vision off for good. As things go dark, you notice that same castle in the background, looming off in the distance behind the shadow beast’s bulk.

The light pulses feelings through you of fear, anger, and loss.

Norona hears, The Usurper is dead. Another means of decay, now. Not so strong. But very strong.

The light makes a confused sort of pulse, and then goes still, awaiting your response.

Your Turn!
Let the light know how your characters react. This is meant to be a back and forth, so don’t feel pressure to put up long posts (unless you want to).

As always, please include a Notice roll in your first post after this one.

Feeling the call of the swamp deep within his soul Norona answers with no hesitation. Seeing the glowing spirit of the genius loci puts a smile on his face, but it is short lvied as the visions of darkness and dragons fill his mind. The sight of the shadow creature give the old elf serious pause. It seems the danger to the swamp has not yet passed. Knowing his fate is now tied to the ecosphere forever, Norona gives a grim nod.

"The trial distracts us from our mission. Let us finish and assist before this new creature grows in power."

The little blue light pulses contentedly at the emotions it senses from its champion.

The light pulses again at Norona, sending more images his way of the Jungle Castle compound and the surrounding swamp. Norona gets more of the sense of wrongness coming from the images, and it feels very familiar.
Roll Common Knowledge or K/Arcana
With a simple success on either, you recognize the feeling of wrongness as being exactly how you felt when confronting the vampire horde back when the team was still making its way down to the swamp.

Tyraxas basks in the comforting essence of the light. As the images turn to darkness and dragons, his eyes narrow. Norona's suggestion of their true task being derailed sticks in his mind. "Norona, is it possible that, whether known or unknown, Ford, and maybe his Termite accomplice...turmadore? Ah. Trimadore. Could he, or they, be thralls, or agents of this dark force, sent to hinder and delay our efforts to drive the evil from the swamp?"

Communing with the spirit of the swamp comes easy and naturally to Norona. The connection that binds his life to the swamp almost makes them of the same mind and heart. As a result, the champion is able to deeply grasp the meaning of the flashing lights. The sense of evil is overwhelming, and familiar, to Norona but also confusing.

"Vampires?" He muses out loud. "It seems very unlikely they would convene surrounded by so much water. Unless, it is a similar evil or they use minions to traverse the swamps for their victims." He ponders for a moment, "Regardless, the castle is a den of evil. But powerful evil and we must be wary."

At this question, Tyraxas gets a feeling from the pulsing light like confusion, or perhaps indecision. It is clear to Tyr that the swamp, at least, doesn't have a good handle on what Ford is up to.

The swamp sends Norona a cautionary feeling and pulses in a way he understands to mean "Cunning." It then shows an image of running water, essential to life in the wetlands, diverting around large swathes of land at and surrounding the Jungle castle, as if of its own volition. There remains plenty of water at the Jungle Castle compound, but it does not flow the way it once did.

Seeing the diverted waters Norona nods in understanding, whatever is there has created an "oasis" for itself. Truly there is much darkness at play and as champion of the swamp and natural enemy of flame and darkness Norona is incensed to respond.

"Tyraxas. We must free Deezy now and proceed to the swamp castle. We will require her skills in equipping us to properly deal with this threat. If Ford's action are not connected to the castle, he is aiding their cause nonetheless by isolating our versatile friend."

Norona briefly considers asking the swamps to swallow up Ford whole, but that - while expedient - would be unjust. Looking to the genius loci the half-elf smiles weakly, "We will assist you but we need our friend. Can you assist us? What happened to the man Lincoln?"

The light sends you an image of Lincoln meeting with a handsome man near a campfire, and then of blackness as if something had impeded its ability to see.

When the vision returns, there is fire, and the point of view is fleeing away from the campsite. Again, the genius loci has shown you images as seen by one of the swamp's many creatures.

Tyraxas nods. "How important is this proceeding? I daresay there is little in the town that will interfere with me if I choose to simply take Deezy and fly towards the castle. If this interference will complicate our stay in Avanzada Seca, then perhaps it is best if I don't."

Norona smiles at the dragon's consideration, "You grow in wisdom even more than stature. It is important to respect local customs whenever possible, and see to understand. Even if people like Ford make a mockery of it. That being said, we must see what we can do to move things along so we may conquer evil."

He steps toward the village, "It is time for our day in court. Keep your Dragon form, perhaps we can influence things."
