Status of the Game

Post by High Command » Wed Jan 01, 2020 11:13 pm

Hey guys.

I have been a total slack ass as far as the game is concerned. You guys sensed it early on I think. Thank you for your forbearance. I do intend to keep the game going. But I need your feedback. That will likely NOT include this quarter, however. Sorry. I may run some Roll20 games on occasion, but this quarter I am just not able to run the game like I should. I'm really sorry.

Going Forward, starting April.
No one has been happy with how their characters turned out. At least no one has been 100% happy with it. So I need to know which of these you'd prefer. All are on the table. Rate them from 0 (no, thanks) to 5 (hell yes). Try not to give EVERYTHING a 5 :P
  1. The 17th SOG continues to hunt demons and federation of magic terrorists in the Old Chicago Ruins. Character Rank: As current
  2. PGM-42 Midway, based out of Greenville, explores the Mississippi, fighting pirates, river monsters, and waters around the St. Louis Arch. Character Rank: Likely to be Zero to Hero, but I'm open to ideas.
  3. The 345th Exploratory Group ranges into the Xiticix Hivelands recovering stranded soldiers and civilians, fighting Tolkeen Avengers, and yes, encountering Tomorrow Legion groups occasionally. Character Rank: Standard
  4. The 86th Covert Infiltration Company heads into the Magic Zone after a range of targets on a long range probe against the Federation of Magic in its own territory. This is a disavowed style game, and will include the option of Vanguard.

    Or switching tact entirely:
  5. 45th European Task Force: The Coalition and NGR join forces to break the backs of the Gargoyle Empire in this historical game (set in the lead up to Triax 2).
  6. Crusaders of the Eternal City: A group of knights, adventurers, sages, and mages fight against the evil human and goblin kingdoms around them and deal with the reality of Camelot.
  7. Comrades of the Frozen North: A group of soldiers from New Moscow, in the Sovietski, fighting Brodkil, demons (traditional and russian), the Warlords, and the weather.
  8. Sentai of the Rising Sun: A group of adventurers, Samurai, and ninja converge in the outskirts of the Republic of Japan to survive in the shadows of the skyrises, zaibatsus, and ninja clans of Rifts Japan.
  9. 134th Marine Veritech Squadron, Based in South America: Yes, Robotech. Its on the table.
Things not chosen may show up as Roll20 one shots.

1The 17th SOG continues to hunt demons and federation of magic terrorists in the Old Chicago Ruins. Character Rank: As current
Potential Woody Rating: 2 (semi at best)
2 PGM-42 Midway, based out of Greenville, explores the Mississippi, fighting pirates, river monsters, and waters around the St. Louis Arch. Character Rank: Likely to be Zero to Hero, but I'm open to ideas.
Potential Woody Rating: 4 (firm and functional)
3 The 345th Exploratory Group ranges into the Xiticix Hivelands recovering stranded soldiers and civilians, fighting Tolkeen Avengers, and yes, encountering Tomorrow Legion groups occasionally. Character Rank: Standard
Potential Woody Rating: 3 (curiously stiff, though there would be concerns about variety)
4 The 86th Covert Infiltration Company heads into the Magic Zone after a range of targets on a long range probe against the Federation of Magic in its own territory. This is a disavowed style game, and will include the option of Vanguard.
Potential Woody Rating: 5 (rock hard, baby!)
5 45th European Task Force: The Coalition and NGR join forces to break the backs of the Gargoyle Empire in this historical game (set in the lead up to Triax 2).
Potential Woody Rating: 6 (STOP!! My penis can only get so erect!)
6 Crusaders of the Eternal City: A group of knights, adventurers, sages, and mages fight against the evil human and goblin kingdoms around them and deal with the reality of Camelot.
Potential Woody Rating: 0 (Total windsock, dude)
7 Comrades of the Frozen North: A group of soldiers from New Moscow, in the Sovietski, fighting Brodkil, demons (traditional and russian), the Warlords, and the weather.
Potential Woody Rating: 3 (curiously stiff but not entirely there due to my lack of familiarity with the Russia books... wasn't my favorite when I bought them many moons ago)
8 Sentai of the Rising Sun: A group of adventurers, Samurai, and ninja converge in the outskirts of the Republic of Japan to survive in the shadows of the skyrises, zaibatsus, and ninja clans of Rifts Japan.
Potential Woody Rating: 4 (overworked-porn-actor-hard; will get the job done, but I will depend heavily on every anime trope I know... not that that's a bad thing)
9 134th Marine Veritech Squadron, Based in South America: Yes, Robotech. Its on the table.
Potential Woody Rating: 6 (PRIAPISM ALERT!! Proof that there can be too much of a good thing!)

For my part, I’m pretty happy with Steelcreek.

That said, a disavowed-style campaign would be lots of fun.

I don't know enough about the wider Rifts Earth to really judge the last batch. I was happy with how Cassandra turned out. That said, I would put my interest in the pirates/riverways, the hivelands, and the disavowed campaign. Cassandra could easily slide into any of those, or I could make someone new. Maybe stat up Nici Maverick LOL

Funnily enough we had a guy in the original Brown Water Blues game on RPOL that had every character that was some form of luck/fate. His primary last name for characters was Murphy. His character in BWB was Karma Murphey - she's a NCO in the Brown Water navy somewhere :D

Leading Contenders so far, with a smattering of support for multiple others. Didn't expect Knights of the Eternal City to flop so hard lol. For reference, that's the same setting Sarge ran for a while.

The 17th SOG continues to hunt demons and federation of magic terrorists in the Old Chicago Ruins. Character Rank: As current

The 86th Covert Infiltration Company heads into the Magic Zone after a range of targets on a long range probe against the Federation of Magic in its own territory. This is a disavowed style game, and will include the option of Vanguard.

If we do not keep our characters we’ve converted (I’m happy w Stephen, actually), I would prefer to start something new elsewhere out of the second list at the bottom, preferably the second option crusaders or what have you. Specifically, though, not the robotech game.

I would play whatever the consensus shakes out to be but Stay the Same or Goblins-R-Us are my preferences. Neither more than the other - I assume magic and weirdness are options in that game. And while I don’t mind ass-kickin Stephen’s mundane self, I do like me some magic weirdness.

I admit that Frost needs some tweaking but he is still playable.

My selections are SOG, The Disavowed, The Eternal City, and the Rising Sun.
