CS OOC Chat
FAQ
1. There's a CS Game???
-Yes, there will be. Absolutely. It'll be the best CS game ever. It will be yuuuge.
2. What?!??
-Sorry, too much fun. Anyway, yes there will be a game, but it will be sometime in 2017 before I'm ready to roll with it.
3. So what is it?
-The names will change as time gets closer. The first chapter of the game will have you guys playing Novice grunts directly out of advanced training. You will play the part of a rifle squad assigned to the Old Chicago area - the Coalition's proving ground. As you adventure, you will open up milestones which will grant you additional Heroes Journey rolls and eventually Fortune & Glory rolls. You'll also gain experience. My goal is to take you from Novice to Seasoned (and therefore equal to any character in Rifts) over the course of the game. At that point, when everyone has leveled up enough, the assignment will change.
4. So when?!?
Game starts April 1. No really!
BTW this thread will be mercilessly pruned from time to time

Re: CS Game
So game start is April 1. Once EP is settled, those with open accounts can start making characters. Please ensure you have enough EP BEFORE you make a character.

Re: CS Game
As someone who hasn't interfaced with the original Rifts book past a certain point, the last word I've read is that the Coalition States don't allow master psychics into their armed forces...but some of the material on this site seems to indicate they do, albeit with severe limitations and restrictions.
I just want to see what would be involved with being a CS psychic with that level of potential...if it's possible, and what the repercussions would be.

Deezy,
In reply to your original question. The Coalition makes extensive use of psychics in order to battle the supernatural. They are generally regarded with suspicion and treated as second class citizens. Known psychics are tagged with an identification code (IC) and enrolled in a Psychic Registration Program (PRP).
The military has a whole unit of psychics known as Psionic Battalion (PSI-Bat) that uses very harsh methods to help psychics achieve their psionic potential in order to help the war effort.

Yar, I'm aware of that much...I was fishing for information about whether or not 'master' psychics participate in that...and what kind of measures are used to keep them in check. But I can find that out as I go.

Re: CS Game
Ahh,
Well they definitely make use of Master Psychics, that much is clear from the books. If you have a copy of Psyscape that will detail a lot of that stuff.
We can find out together, since I just put together a CS Master Psychic as well.

Keep in mind:
Two will receive the rifleman's billet
Two will receive the grenadier's billet
One will receive the marksman billet
One will be a psychic or dogboy scout and receive the scout billet
One receive the anti-armor specialist billet
One will be a power armor pilot using a PA-06A SAMAS, A smiling Jack SAMAS, or other light power armor.
But note this is to start - who's to say what will happen in the five advances, three Fortune & Glory, and 4 other Hero's Journey rolls you'll be making

Just used the specific character creation rules for this gameDeezy wrote:Interesting! Is that a custom framework, or just a modified Mind Melter?

Hello,
I made it using the Special Character Creation Rules - CS Chicago Company for this game. Essentially it is a MARS framework without all the XP applied yet.

Hmm!
It might be fun to have a character who didn't start out psychic, but 'became the enemy' at some point.
Though with all the psi-sensitives running around in the CS, that's hard to justify narratively.
Just brainstorming right now.
Thanks for all the feedback and help!

Re: CS OOC Chat
Keep in mind, psychics aren't the enemy. Because no CS psychic would ever be called a Mind Melter or a Burster. They are Dominators and Pyrokinetics. They are trained soldiers with the best interests of the CS in mind. Yes, they are psychic, so IC is a fact of life, and some people are hopeless biggots, but try to give them the benefit of the doubt. There are a LOT of real threats out there!

Re: CS OOC Chat
In Psyscape it's also made clear that the CS uses things like the Psi-Slayer and Nega-Psychich along with a few other master class psi. That said, under Savage Rifts some of those master classes are no longer master level (Such as the Burster) but still retain their classic powers. The CS has even (if you look through all the descriptions) found ways to more or less force a certain outcome in potential psychichs.

I think Seige of Tolkeen 6 has some info as well. At the very least, it does have common tools and methods of dealing with magic using prisoner.
On that note, I just realized, my cybernetics skill could be very useful. The prisoner might not like it, but It's not like I would care.

Re: CS OOC Chat
Seems to me in a CS game, a Vow to Serve the CS is not really as much of a hindrance as it should be. I would think everyone should have it at a major for no hindrance points. I could not imagine that players would sign up for such a game if they were not going to follow orders and are already prepared to serve the CS. The hindrance just does not seem like it serves the story well.
I have two suggestions:
"CS Lemming" Major Vow: You don't ask how high or think twice about jumping off the ledge if so ordered. There must be a good reason and you do not need to know it. Heck if ordered to shoot a compatriot you are most likely on board even if it is your brother. You have made a vow to protect and serve, that is all you ever need to know.
Conscientious objector Major Vow: Sure there are orders, but surely they are open to interpretation. You are the first with questions. You cannot help but to need to know the reason why. If that reason is not good enough you might try to find a different way. If there is a mutiny you might not only be a follower heck you probably are the leader of it. You have made a vow to protect and serve the coalition in a manner that lifts its ideals rather than trounces others.
Anyways just some thoughts. Thanks for entertaining them.

I am serious! However, a lot depends on how many EP my recruiting brings in. I think I recall that it counts double this month? If that's the case, I may have 10, which means I can join this AND the Black Company. Which is my hope.
If not, or if someone I brought in flakes, I will fall short...and will have a tough choice to make!

In case you don't see it in the big group Hangout,
Not sure if anyone else was having this issue or already figured out a solution, but I found it rather annoying to navigate to my Signature edit to change Bennies (and ammo would prove equally annoying). I primarily post from a phone, but even on my PC I found the 3-4 clicks annoying. I already keep 50ish tabs open on my phone at any time so I didn't really want to add another.
Taking a cue from linking my character page to my name in the signature I tried linking my signature edit page to my Bennies. And it worked. Not sure what happens if someone else clicks it, but based on the link I think it will just take them to their edit page. Either way, I'm gonna love the shortcut so I figured I'd share.

lol Nah. He'll be someone else entirely. Gary Sinese gets to be a badass in my games. If I include him it will be one the 110th can encounter as well.
BTW Solene is one of the power armor drivers he mentioned having. The invitation is there mostly for Colton who wanted to be a PA driver from the start.

Ah! Well, since you're dogging me my horde of Skelebot minions, I guess that's not too bad of a consolation prize.High Command wrote:The invitation is there mostly for Colton who wanted to be a PA driver from the start.

patience Colton-san, you will have all in time. Mud Spider is kinda in development atm, but the goal is something that can drill and cut it's way through anything and do delicate explosives work remotely. So much like the Mauler is not really great at infantry ops (so many better options), the mud spider is no skelebot, but like the mauler, it is well suited to the role.

Alright gang - working on XP/EP and then I'll get things started.
So we're aware, once this thread is done, you'll need to write an interlude to go with our first roll which we'll be making very soon. Interludes should be three to five paragraphs and explain how you got your result - within the bounds of not actually having a real mission. You'll be doing training runs, some road repairs, learning how to be a combat engineer: Demo, construction, etc.

Regarding Patron Items: All items will either be captured gear or reskinned into Experimental CS Gear.
The NEMA items will simply be CS items. GAW Gear can be captured or given through official channels. The psynetic device is from PRP and Psi-Bat. Armor will be Pre-rifts gear recently unearthed, or given a cosmetic upgrade into experimental CS Gear. Don't choose Magic gear. Just don't, please.

Re: CS OOC Chat
Just putting this here from hangouts regarding our covert task for the PA team.
For the PA Team, Bouchard has K/Electronics and Notice at d8
Colton has the same: d8 in Notice and K/Electronics
Colton has the same: d8 in Notice and K/Electronics
Marshall has Investigation and Stealth at d6
Maybe Colton takes the lead with a d8, Marshall and Bouchard can support with their d10s in Fighting and Shooting and Dansk and the Skelebots can do whatever
Not to tell Colton what to do, but I was thinking we could link our systems together to make like a "sensor net" with the PAs and Skelebots. The bots use tracking or whatever and we beat up any bad guys we come across.
Kind of like the "tachyon grid" episode of TNG, for those old enough to remember

Alright guys. I am setting Wednesdays as my GM will post day. This is a day after my GM day for EU. I will sometimes post early (like this week), but that will be uncommon and you'll have warning.
Fair warning, we will be dealing with Demons quite a bit from here on. But you will also be equipped for it.

I will not be posting a GM poll for a variety of reasons (I don't feel I've earned anything with my abysmal posting this quarter and I won't be rewarded when you guys are lacking because of me). But if you have specific feedback (aside from "Post more dammit" I'd love to hear it.
I've got XP done and will post it tomorrow before I leave.

So I am working towards retiring from the game and going out with a bang. Dina is currently at 2 wounds and has depleted 3/5 of the ammo for the railgun. Not exactly in a total rush to do it though. Just this game was not something I can just do on the drop of a hat, writing essay style posts that is. It has been fun.

THe only thing you lost out on was a Benny, it was not a hard deadline. I just knew it was going to be the last chance I could give you guys before I had to leave. Next several posts will be combat, and then RP. We just had a series of challenges first. But if you want to Blaze out, that's fine too. Where is the C-20? I was given the C-30, so I need to change that, but I can't find the C-20 in the books.

most of the weapons not in Savage Foes are in the CS profiles in Empires of Humanity.

Re: CS OOC Chat
I need a break from the CS guys. That has become apparent to me. and I LOVE the CS and its stories. But I want to delve into some stuff I've been writing when I should have been writing for this game. I will reopen this game, and I just posted the advances everyone should have, but I need a break. When I am ready, I will post it and you guys can have a shot at it. Until then, status quo really - the game is on hold. But it is not dead - not that you'll be able to tell the difference for a bit. Sorry guys.

Thanks HC.
Good to get some clarity, and even better to hear from you.
Admin voice: Players can use their character slots from this game in other places. If it opens back up we'll decide what to do then. Just update your Who's Who appropriately.

Severely disappointing, for sure. I like my guy and how he turned out, and I was looking forward to exploring the CS as more than "ooga booga, nazi nazi." Still, I get it and wouldn't begrudge anyone a break. When the reservoir is depleted, you can't force it back.
I think I might be overdrawn on slots anyway, so Ivan goes on ice for now. Thanks for the update, HC.
