Finding any vamps had proven harder than @Peta Chante thought it would be. Either there were none in the city or they were hiding themselves very well. Just when he was ready to give up, he caught a funny taste in the air. Blood. That unmistakable metallic tang of blood was in the area. As he scanned around and tried to find the source he saw movement in a dark alley. Giving pursuit he soon spots a vampire fleeing down the alley. Following the vampire for several twist and turns he finally corners the vampire in a dead end. As he closes on the vampire, he senses start screaming at him. He can sense a lot of vampires all around him.
It was a trap.

Notice Crit Fail. Fighting 6, success
Hunger is good. It drives you. Makes you sharp. Except when it consumes you. Then it overrides your good sense.Half starved from the lack of pickings Peta leaps earnestly after the single vampire like a hawk swooping on a rabbit. Unfortunately he was a little too earnest, the blood lust drowning out his good sense as he suddenly finds himself surrounded by mists. As the mists turn into humanoid form Peta is hit hard from behind and throw into the alley wall. He collides with a deep thud, his head snapping back and banging against the adobe structure.
Slightly dazed, he scowls, counts his enemies and roars in frustration. Then, suddenly, smiles. His hunger overriding his danger sense. Instead of seeing his demise, the psi-stalker simply sees a buffet. Leaping into the fray a ferious battle of tooth, claw, gun, and will erupts as the expert vampire killer is challenged like never before. A stupid mistake almost his undoing.
However, the snarling soon subsides and mystic energy is leaked into the night. Peta is invigorated by the sudden rush of energy and howls loudly. Blood from his wounds trickles down his face, and blood from the decapitated vampires covers his armor and weapons. It is a grisly sight.
Sometimes it's hard to tell who the monsters are.

Watcher follow Peta, occasionally asking question when needed about what he looks for and what things are relevant. He was curious about these things worked having very little experience with hunting prey inside a city. As they are ambushed by the vampires Watcher ignores them at first Watching Peta perform his art. But then four of the vampires somehow mistook Watcher for prey.
As they leaped at him to attack, their claws and fangs unable to pierce his skin he was impressed by their bravery. Pinning the vampires under his body, the magical being grins down at them. "Now why would you attack me? Are you so foolish as to mistake me for prey?" Looking over towards Peta as he fights the vampires Watcher wonders how many times the warrior has hunted this prey. It seemed this time he was as aught off guard as Watcher, and yet he is easily turning the tables on them. "Should I kill them or save them for you?" He asks as the vampires foolishly try to escape by turning into mist, only to find the magical nature of the Sphinx allows him to maintain his hold as easily as when they where corporeal.
Eventually after Peta was ready for the meals and the vampires scratching at his paws grew tiresome, Watcher snapped them in half before tossing them to the psychic devourer. "Do you enjoy the taste, or are their other prey more desired?"

Re: The Predator and The Prey
The moment Peta said he saw a vampire, Vela transformed into her human/jaguar hybrid form. In this, the 'true' form in the tradition of her people, Vela was still recognizable but her skin grew a thin covering of fine fur with dappled markings typical of the arboreal great cats she had affinity with. Her ears lengthened and pointed, becoming more similar to cat ears while her teeth lengthened and sharpened...as did her nails, becoming hooked talons. A flexible tail grew out, suitable for helping balance her on precarious perches. In the process Vela became physically somewhat larger, and considerably more muscular as well. Her eyes, already unusually colored, became true cat's eyes, with vertical pupils and eerie luminescence.
Long before her teammates pursued their quarry into that alley, she had vanished though, ducking down a side street. Would working with her be like herding cats?
The vampires sprang their trap then, and poured into the alley, surrounding the Legionaires with a forest of pale skin and gleaming red eyes! As the battle was joined there was a blood-curdling yowling roar from above...and something fell into the midst of a large group of vampires, cutting their charge abruptly short. What followed was a blur of spots, screams and blood. It ended with Vela standing hunched over a small heap of partly dismembered, decapitated undead as she set fire to them to keep them dead...all the while staring down a small circle of other vampires with gleaming yellow eyes, snarling deep in her throat as her tail lashed agitatedly to and fro.

Re: The Predator and The Prey
It was a bloody fight but @Vela managed to change the tide and after several minutes the last 2 vamps misted into the night. Peta is sore and will probably hurt tomorrow but he is alive and the head wound has slowed to a trickle. The three of them make their way back to the inn for the night, cleaning themselves up as they go.
When they get back to the inn their is a pie sitting on the counter with a note from the inn keeper. "Hope you kids had fun tonight. I know hunting is always hard work, please enjoy this strawberry rhubarb pie. See you in the morning at breakfast."

Re: The Predator and The Prey
Glad to be hunting with a pack, Peta feels no shame in their assistance. Lone wolves got eaten by bigger predators. It was the way of this world. Heading back with the others he still feels invigorated from the fight and the flush of magic energy.
"This city has a large problem. We could hunt here for many nights. Let's come back and finish the job when we are done with our legion business."
Wearing his wounds like a badge of honour the psi-stalker grunts at the inn keepers offer of pie, "Very full. Sorry."

Watcher nods at the comment thinking if they are all alive when it is done, he would enjoy helping hunt vampires here. The foul things could be frustrating though as no mater how many you kill, there always seems to be a few waiting to replace them.Peta Chante wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 5:36 pm
