A Time for Change: Briefing Room 17-Charlie

Post by High Command »

A Time for A Change
  • Date: January 1, 110 PA
Time: 0700 by end of post.
Temp: 8°, Bitterly Cold outside. A cool 65 degrees inside the complex.
Weather: Mostly Cloudy, Only a light dusting of snow and plenty of ice
Ley Line info: There are multiple ley lines in the ruins of Old Chicago, but none close to the base at Fort Resilience.
Location: Fort Resilience; Briefing Room 17-Charlie
At 0700, Staff Sergeant Templar walks in the room with a briefcase under her left arm. and calls out. "Attention!" She then steps to the side and salutes and lets a man walk in. He wears the traditional coat of the CS Army and what you can assume is an armored uniform.
Image
Captain Roger Dooly (as voiced by John Barrowman).

He strides to the podium and sets down a tablet. "At Ease. Be seated." His voice is easy, pleasing, but it has the gravitas of one knows the true horrors out there. Templar strides over to Perry and holds her hand out for the tablet. She scans it and nods. She calls out. "Platoon Indigo, 17th Special Operations Company, 14th Battalion, Fifth Brigade. Stand at attention." Once the room is standing, she nods. "Platoon assembled and awaiting orders Captain."

"Very good Staff Sergeant." He looks at the assembled platoon and lets them stand a moment. "Welcome Indigo Platoon. I am Captain Roger Dooly, but you can call me Captain. This is Staff Sergeant Templar. If you have a concern, bring it to her. She will bring it to me if it requires my attention. Before I move too far forward, let me get some book keeping out of the way. When I call your name, step to my right and wait. Staff Sergeant, if you will?" She nods and opens the briefcase and sets it on the podium.

"Private First Class Solène Bouchard." When she stands beside him, he nods. "Emperor Prozek, and High Command have seen fit to promote you Ms. Bouchard. For actions becoming of a leader in the Coalition Army, showing judgement and restraint, you are hereby awarded the rank and pay of Corporal. You shall comport yourself as such. Staff Sergeant Templar shall see to it you are educated in your new rank and its responsibilities. Congratulations."

"Private First Class Raleigh Colton." When he stands beside him, he nods. "Emperor Prozek, and High Command have seen fit to promote you Mr. Colton. For actions becoming of a leader in the Coalition Army, showing initiative and a methodical nature, you are hereby awarded the rank and pay of Corporal. You shall comport yourself as such. Staff Sergeant Templar shall see to it you are educated in your new rank and its responsibilities. Congratulations."

"Private Cassandra Maverick." When she stands beside him, he nods. "Emperor Prozek, and High Command have seen fit to promote you Ms. Maverick. For actions becoming of a soldier in the Coalition Army, showing initiative and daring, you are hereby awarded the rank and pay of Private First Class. You shall comport yourself as such. Staff Sergeant Templar shall see to it you are educated in your new rank and its responsibilities. Congratulations."

About three other privates receive promotions to PFC, and one PFC becomes a Corporal. "Have a seat," he commands as he finishes and Templar closes the case. "That all had to be done because of the advanced timetable of this deployment. Congratulations all of you. Second, you are all now part of the Special Operations Group operating out of Fort Resilience. Most call our group commandos. You are not true Special Forces. Not yet, but you might be ready after your tenure here is done. If you work hard at it. What that means is we get the hardest missions in the AO and the least amount of time to deal with it. All of you are veterans, so you have seen the real horrors out there. Well that was yesterday and the last easy day you'll have. Because we are dealing with a full on invasion by forces from the dimensions of Hades and Dyval." Involuntarily, voices murmur a mix of disbelief and scorn.

Dooly seems unimpressed, but also unbothered. "Yes, I said Hades and Dyval. Hell is not a metaphor, it's a real place full of demons and deevils locked in eternal combat simply because they hate each other. And they've made their way to our planet so we have the chance to show them all what it means to kick the hornet's nest waiting for it here in the Domain of Man. You've all heard the Emperor's speeches, I'm sure. This is not hyperbole. We are at war with supernatural creatures on a scale we have not faced before. But we've got some new toys to do it with. The Death Knight will be issued to some of you. It's a modified SAMAS frame, but redesigned for melee combat. It's a straight up beast. Which is good, because some of the enemy you will be fighting will be in excess of fifteen or twenty feet. We will be a quick reaction force. If you can't fly you will be on one of our transports. We have a collection of modified Death's Head Transports for big deployments, but we also have a good selection of Demon Locust assault choppers from Iron Heart. They will get us moving on smaller deployments. If you get to fly one, know I'll be jealous. That's a lot of firepower."

He glances around the room. "You'll all be issued a suit of CA-7 Commando Armor. Make sure it fits you well. We don't need mistakes out there. Check your gear, double check your ammunition loads, and get prepared for immediate deployment by 0830. Make sure you all have at least a silver vibro bayonet, if not more. I personally keep a sidearm loaded with silver, when I am not in my own Striker. The Armory knows to load you for demon. Let's get to why you get all these toys first thing out of the gate." He turns back and makes a series of gestures on his tablet and syncs with the larger screen and steps to the side.

As he does, aerial footage of a mass of demons and demonic looking vehicles and animals appears on the screen. "This is an advanced recon force and artillery unit now making its way into the ruins. This footage is one hour old." He lets that sink in and continues. "They are far enough away and about to hit some obstacles we put in specifically hinder troop movements like this that we have time to respond. We will be getting close and calling in a missile barrage from artillery units from Fort Resilience and the Navy. That will at least soften them up and then we will mop them up. The 17th, 28th, and 30th Companies will all be hitting this at the same time. We have one third of the AO, and we need every missile to count. The more we take out at the start, the less we will face in close quarters. Squad leaders report to the Staff Sergeant before mustering out for individual orders. Let's be about it. Dismissed."

Templar finds Frost. "Sergeant, you're to take command of bravo squad and the helicopter sitting in the hanger. Private Gregg is your pilot. You've got Colton and Phillips in Death Knights, two skelebots under Colton's direct command, and Bouchard in a Striker. Everyone else will have jetpacks for rapid deployment. This tablet has your full squad and what you need to know about them." It contains their service records.

Solène tries not wince when the Captain calls her forward. Expecting a public dressing down for one thing or another she expertly presents herself and approaches the front.

Promotion?

Keeping a stony exterior she gives the Captain an appropriate nod when he speaks to her and salutes after receiving the Corporal bars. Keeping her face like flint she returns to the ranks trying not to scowl at the thought of extra responsibilities, and attention, that come from being promoted.

The mission profile sounds bad. Invading hordes of demons. On the plus side she would face them down in a Striker. Being an engineering sqaud snuck them into this commando unit and that works for her.

After the briefing she presents herself to the Staff Sergeant, "What do you need done Staff Sergeant?"

Templar looks to Bouchard when she steps up as she is talking to Frost. "Ah good, Bouchard. Frost, this is Bouchard. Certified killer. She's your Striker pilot." She looks at Bouchard. "Get down to the armory and get fitted for the CA-7 Armor and then stow it and find your Striker. It's got your name on it. By the way, Sergeant Dansk said to tell you good luck."

Solene gives a quick nod to Frost but doesn't exchange any pleasantries. She then turns her attention to Templar's instructions.

Certified Killer. CA-7. Striker. I'm a long way from the underground.

"Understood."

Moving briskly Bouchard heads for the armory to gear up for the mission, she can't read the specs on her Striker so she hits the text to speech button to make sure she understands what's loaded on it. She also confirms it with the loading tech, "Rigged up for demon killing? Anything I need to know about how the special munitions preform versus standard?"

Steelcreek watches, stewing, while the rest of the squad gets promoted.

I'm a Ranger, dammit! He tries to keep the frustration from shining through, but may not have much success. Dad was a corporal before he was done. Had his own dog boy pack. He looks over at Augustus. Maybe that's the only way to advance?

Not for the first time, he is frustrated by "normal" human culture. He can literally see the enemies they can't, and instead of that earning promotions and accolades, they ignore him.
Hindrance
He's out here trying to make a name for his tribe, but the mean humans are making it hard!
He sobers when they start talking about demon invasions, though. He thinks back to his tribe and his home; they're well-equipped, but they don't have anything like the Coalition's capacity to bombard the bad guys from afar. He just hopes they're protected by their relative isolation; no tactical reason to send an army through the Ozarks.

At the armory, he reports in for his new kit, and one of the soldiers pulls him aside. "Steelcreek, right?" Jaren nods in the affirmative, and the soldier directs him to a rack in the back. "You're to have one of these; highly experimental, so don't frak it up. No idea why they're giving it to a mutie, but someone named Newcastle apparently raised hell about it." And without any further explanation, the supply soldier walks off, leaving Steecreek to look at his new armor.

Highly experimental? Maybe today isn't a total loss. He begins gearing up.

Frost had arrived shortly after the Captain and Templar had come into the room. Though his large frame visually made him stand out his actions did nothing but acknowledge the chain of command.

Frost noted that Steelcreek bristled at not receiving a promotion and leaned down to his co-pilot Gregg and whispered, "Someone a lot like you."

At the mention of equipment, Frost can literally feel the change in attitude. Noted. Equipment Junky. Steelcreek.

As @Steelcreek passes by, Frost gives a curt nod of acknowledgement but says nothing.

Steve pays attention to the meeting, sort of. He mostly thinks about his encounter with Lynette a few nights ago. That leads to him thinking about who he'd encounter next. Then Captain Dooly mentions something about demons, and Steve smiles ever so slightly.

'Finally. Somethin' other than taters! These demons got another think comin' if they think they can break us.'

Kaihauta Frost wrote:"The Tribal Thunder can carry six of those Striker pilots and suits. How many are in my squad?"
Templar shakes her head. "Oh no, Sergeant. We'll get the bird you came in switched over to our standards eventually, but for now, use Unit 3AEB-8343. You can't miss her. She's got a new stealth system installed. As for your squad, it's all in the pad there. You'll be transporting them, with Bouchard flying as wingman and scout. You're also carrying our extra demo packages which your team will install with assist from Charlie squad. Get yourself down to the Armory ASAP. We've got demons to kill." She turns and walks off to Sergeant Draper, leaving Frost to his own devices. If he looks at the tablet, glancing through his team, he sees all of them are at least Demo trained, if not Certified Demolition Experts - even the dogboy.

To the Armory/Hanger!
The Armory is a familiar sight for any soldier in Fort Resilience for they all look basically the same. A hanger or garage holds a cage and an armored building. The armored building holds munitions and can take some significant damage before cracking. The cage keeps people out of their weapons and includes unloaded weapons of all sorts. Every pistol from C-20 and C-18 pistols to huge revolvers and automatic pistols. Carbines and Rifles range from dart rifles loaded with knockout munitions to the energy rifles they know and rely on.

As they get to the Armory, they see it swarming with Techs. Much like with Rotation Day, full body scanners are set up to quickly piece together the various parts of the armor that make for a good, snug fit. The whole process takes 10 minutes once you start it. Those getting jetpacks also get fitted for those. Other than getting the load bearing harnesses set up and integrated with their armor, the techs leave attaching pouches and loading them to the individual soldiers. Near the weapons a supply sergeant oversees getting folks their weapons and ammunition. If anyone has any special requests he points them to a table set up where a bunch of tablets are set for requisitioning things.

Around the outer edge of the cage they see fourteen Power Armor lined up. Five Strikers are all together. Solene sees Marshal and Draper getting suited up in theirs, with a piece of tape on the forehead showing the Captain and Staff Sergeant have the other two. Two Super Sams, two Death Knights, and five standard SAMAS round out the Power Armor offerings. All have names on them.

Off to one side, veterans of Bear Squad see Wright, Klinger, Son, Maddocs, and a doggirl all inspecting hovercycles. They are all resplendent in their new Commando Body Armor. Their hovercycles, all Prowlers, are loaded with missiles and heavy lasers. Near the entrance to the hanger a modified Demon Locust has been taxied into position. The body seems to have a matte finish and the blades seem to be slightly different. They are just loading the rail guns - with what looks like silver. Those near the power armor all see that they too are being loaded with silver munitions for their rail guns. The Super SAMAS seem to be getting a modified grenade load. Whatever is in them, they seem to be VERY different visually from standard grenades.

Steelcreek returns @Kaihauta Frost’s nod. Mad or not, he understands a chain of command. ”Sargeant. Good to meet you.” He pauses a moment. ”You look... familiar.”

After being scanned and set up with his new body armor, Steelcreek replaces his vibro-knife with a silver-plated vibro-axe. He remembers using these months back during the terrorist attack on Fort Resilience. Love the weight of these.

He leaves the C-10 on the rack for this one; the Ozark Special pistol that Colton put together makes the need for a second long-arm obsolete. And if I do need a rifle, I imagine there’ll be plenty of them lying around, he considers grimly.

He grabs his CM-1902 shotgun, and pauses at the ammunition. Need silver for this one.
For High Command
Putting these questions for @High Command here so they don’t get lost in the shuffle (and I know you said you’d do a post about the equipment later):
  • What silver ammo is available for the shotgun? Slugs, buckshot, or both?
  • Where is the page that breaks down the different types of pouches, etc. available for the GEAR harness? Can’t find it.
  • Any silver frag grenades available?
  • I think we have stats for the artillery spotting scope, but I still need the mechanics for how his sniper spotting scope will work. That’s less of a rush, but I didn’t want to forget it.
  • I think I may know the answer to this already, but can a shotgun take a bayonet?
  • Are the embedded vibro-knives in the CA-7 silver-plated for this mission? That seems a stretch given the timing, but figured it would be worth asking.

Frost looks up and knods to Stephen Phillips, "I understand your concern private. But our Area of Operation will not always be a few clicks from Camp Resilience."

Looking down over the shoulder of Staff Sergeant Templar, "Phillips, you are to report to the Armory for a fitting in a set of DK-500 ... Death Knight Armor. Bouchard and Steelcreek are already down there."
“Noted and on it, sir!” Steve replies with a salute.

He turns smartly and follows the psi-stalker out of the briefing and towards the armory. They walk along awkwardly silent at first. Then Stephen attempts to break the ice.

“Good to meetcha, Private @Steelcreek. You might’a seen me here ‘n there on shit detail or peel’n taters. That’s what I do most days ‘round here. When they let me out to have a little fun, I’m usually the first in and the last out. I’m a-guess’n some-un higher up liked what they seen in their reports because they went ahead and put me in training for usin’ them fancy suits. Never thought a screw up like me would get one of those babies,” he prattles on to his fellow private, “What about you, man? What’s your deal.”

In the armory, Stephen patiently waits for his fitting and then hauls his armor over to his death knight where he piles it neatly on the floor. He looks up at the massive death dealing machine in awe.

‘Well, I’ll be. My own death knight. Pa will love to hear ‘bout this’

Private Phillips hops deftly into the powered armor, fires it up and runs through the diagnostics and loaded armaments. Everything looks fairly normal apart from the silvered additions until he sees what should be a skull sword.

Clicking through the channels, Steve attempts to hail one of the technicians, “Hey, man, no complaints here or nothin’, but I don’t suppose you can run me through the in’s ‘n out’s of this hammer? It ain’t standard issue to the best of my I knowledge. Oh, and I’m a fair hand at cornhole so some of them demon frying ‘nades would be great if you have any for me.”

One of the techs comes over and looks at the maul and looks confused. "Uh, let me check Private. I do not know." He pulls up something on a tablet, then pulls up some more stuff, then goes and gets a NCO, who then goes and gets a supply officer, who finally has to get clearance from the Captain himself, before walking back over to Phillips. The supply officer, Lt. Jacobs, is the one that explains it to the young private. "Private, this is honestly way more than should be on your suit by clearance alone, but you've got special dispensation from the highest ranks in the Special Forces Command. Anyway, for the most part it's just a big ass heavy hammer. Your Death Knight can use it one handed, but I would not try that out of the armor. It does have a special feature though. If you hit it on the ground or some other really solid immobile surface, it will send out a shockwave in a 45 degree arc in front of you. Almost like a cone. It will absolutely wreck things. If you've got a bunch of bad guys in front of you and no allies, give it a try. It's like a little earthquake going off. You have to give the handle a little twist and lift first to prime it. That releases when it fires off. It can only do it twice before recharging. it will recharge a full strike in an hour. I'll get you some video on it after the mission, but it sounds pretty basic once you know the trick."

Both. Shotgun ammo is the easiest.

It's totally been right here all along. I did not in any way JUST post this: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=3799&p=52461#p52461
Steelcreek wrote:Any silver frag grenades available?
Just for the Super SAMAS - Silver doesn't really survive in a frag grenade: melts too easily. So I'm making the CS's attempts to use them be a bit more unavailable.

It basically will add a +1 to this roll in addition to any other effects: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=231#p33641

Yes.

No, but that may change. Keep in mind the CS is scrambling to make silver EVERYTHING available for all its front line guys right now. You guys justy have priority.

He turns smartly and follows the psi-stalker out of the briefing and towards the armory. They walk along awkwardly silent at first. Then Stephen attempts to break the ice.

“Good to meetcha, Private Steelcreek.
Steelcreek shrugs. "I don't have much of a deal, really. I'm a Psi-Stalker. I hunt things that go bump in the night." He walks with the eager new private toward the armory, and watches as Stephen gets set up in the death machine, and shudders.

As impressive as the Coalition's array of power armors is, he couldn't stand the idea of being inside of one. Even just being in environmental body armor is enough to make him twitchy, let alone being sealed off in a tin can. On the other hand... it would be cool to punch a demon to death.

Once he's suited up, Steelcreek loads up his harness with e-clips and plenty of silver buckshot and slugs. Gonna be a long day, sounds like.

Dina hands over the data pad with everyone signed into it. Then she returns to her seat.

Dina watches as the others get promoted, thoughts do start to go through her mind. Why not me? But then she quickly dismisses them as other thoughts enter her mind. Nevermind that, I don't want to lead people, expletive statement goes here.

After the briefing Dina walks up to Frost and salutes, "Private First Class, Dina Perry, Target Acquisition Group Specialist, reporting. "

After introducing herself and receiving her orders, she goes on to the Armory

Re: A Time for Change: Briefing Room 17-Charlie

Post by Raleigh Ray Colton »

As staff sergeant Templar entered the room with the briefcase under her arm, Raleigh Ray's eyes danced over her curvaceous hotness. The way her form-fitting uniformed hugged her body; the way the lights of the room caressed her model-esque cheeks; the cold dispassionate look of her eyes... that of a killer's. The simple Ozark boy couldn't help but to get a semi-stiffy. Captain Dooley shortly after entered the room, but Raleigh Ray had eyes only for the sergeant.

'Focus... Focus... This is important you dumbass!', he mentally chastised himself, trying to get his mind off of baser instincts.

Then suddenly the unspeakable happened... his name was called. Worse more, he was asked to come up to the front of the room.

'Damn it!! I knew it! I knew it! I knew this was going to happen! Too much fuckin' around and breakin' the rules, and now I'm goin'a get dressed down, berated in front of everyone, and loose my one and only stripe!'

Even so, knowing for sure what was going to happen, PFC Colton stood up, walked to the front, and stood prepared to take it like a man.

And then the incomprehensible happened.
High Command wrote: Thu Apr 18, 2019 8:28 pm"Private First Class Raleigh Colton... you are hereby awarded the rank and pay of Corporal. ... Congratulations."
As Sgt. Templar placed his new stripes and insignia upon his sleves and epalets, Raleigh Ray stood there in a stupor. Even when she inadvertently brushed a boob against his arm, it didn't even register until well after the briefing.

Corporal Colton took his seat and listened to the captain's briefing. While he saw the events and reports on the news earlier, he never took it fully seriously. Raleigh Ray was well aware that most of the things they said on the news were propaganda and mostly crap; hyperbole and watered-down facts for the masses who couldn't handle the gray zones and how rough it really is out there.

But as Captain Dooley's presentation went on, he came to a very key and poignant point.
"... we are dealing with a full on invasion by forces from the dimensions of Hades and Dyval." Involuntarily, voices murmur a mix of disbelief and scorn.
Dooly seems unimpressed, but also unbothered. "Yes, I said Hades and Dyval. Hell is not a metaphor, it's a real place full of demons and deevils locked in eternal combat simply because they hate each other. And they've made their way to our planet ... This is not hyperbole. We are at war with supernatural creatures on a scale we have not faced before. "
If Raleigh Ray thought he was shocked before, this new set of facts sent him reeling! In the past he was accustomed to hearing the terms like Hell from preachers or in some form of colloquialism. But the verification of it as an actual tangible real place... the implications shot a jolt of electricity and ice through his spine at the same time.

With the realization of what was at stake and the weight of all that had been revealed weighing on his shoulders, Raleigh Ray unconsciously swallowed hard, inadvertently swallowing his frosty-mint flavored dip-pack in the process.

This was it!! Ragnarok, Armageddon, Revelations and the end times battle all rolled into one! Dooly's assurances of their new technological advantages did little instill confidence in him. But just the same by the end of the presentation Raleigh Ray had managed to summon up his courage and steel his spine for this coming battle against the outright demonic.

He thought it just as well that he swallowed his sissy-ass frosty-mint dip-pack. It was a time for bold! Reaching into his other pocket Raleigh Ray withdrew a small tin, and from it a dip-pack of "BOLD" flavored snus. Now he ment business!
"Squad leaders report to the Staff Sergeant before mustering out for individual orders. Let's be about it. Dismissed."

Not sure if his promotion made him count as a squad leader or not, Raleigh Ray played it safe and reported to Sergeant Templar first and foremost.

"Any orders before I get to the armory?" he asked, any distractions of her physicality erased from his mind... for the moment.

After Templar issues him any orders or words of wisdom, Raleigh Ray followed her over his new immediate C.O., Sgt. Frost.

When Sergeant Templar is done Raleigh Ray makes a quick introduction. "Sgt. @Kiahauta Frost." he shows his respect with a quick but formal-looking salute, though utterly butchering the pronunciation of the large man's first name (OOC: Seriously, how is that pronounced?). " Corporal Raleigh Ray Colton. When things get rough, I'm yo' man. When things get really rough, I'm still yo' man, but Bouchard will kill a lot more of the enemy."

He gives the sergeant a quick smile to let him know he's only halfway kidding, even if his words were most likely entirely true.

"Any orders 'fore I go to the Armory an' prepare to muster at oh' eight hundred?"

He listens to Frost's answer before Steve, the N.F.G., aproaches and chimes in with a question.

Kaihauta Frost wrote: Fri Apr 19, 2019 8:25 pm"I understand your concern private. But our Area of Operation will not always be a few clicks from Camp Resilience."
"Another thing..." Raleigh Ray said, adding in his two cents on the matter for @Stephen Phillips. "I don't know if you're a gamblin' man or not, but when you play Poker, you don't want to tip your hand and let the other assholes at the table see yo hand. You want to keep dems guessing. If the enemy sees a transport being escorted by four power armors, they know what they're getting into befo' the fight has even begun. But if they just see a lone transport, it's a guessin' game for what's inside. Do they attack `n` risk kickin' the beehive, or leave it be 'n' play it safe? See what I'm sayin'?"

With Team business taken care of, it was time for Raleigh Ray do take care of his own needs. First and foremost, a quick detour to grab a cup of black coffee in a sturdy yet disposable paper cup.

Next he went to the cage to get his personal gear and small arms for the fight ahead. After standing in line for a few minutes to get his measurements lasered out, he first collected his flight suit and CA-7 body armor. He slipped on the fight suit then and there (transferring the contents of his uniform's pockets into it), and had the armor packed into a small duffel for possible later use in the field (because you never know when your PA is going to get trashed).

Next at the Armory he slipped over to The Cage to load up on his personal armament. Recognizing the clerk behind the counter from his missions before his Christmas vacation, he talked to the man more casually than he normally would a man having a rank higher than his own.

"Hey Bob. How's the wife and kid? ... Anyhow, I'll be needing my usual CV-212, silver vibro-bayonet, a pair of frag grenades... Do those come with silver shrapnel? Yeah, give me those... Oh, and I had my personal C-18 mailed in from New Chillicothe. It should be in the back if it's not with my stuff already. Uuuh... Give me my usual number e-clips for all that. And of course I'll be needing my big heavy tool kit... and my secret weapon, a roll of duct tape."

Next on his prep list Raleigh Ray loaded up a small cart full of all his gear and proceeded to go over to the Skelebots. Find the two reserved for him, he quickly tore off the strip of tape on their foreheads bearing his name, and began the process of syncing his cybernetic brain implant with the robotic killers. Once that was done he did his usual personalizing touch.

"Unit 77R7474U, respond to designation Abbot. Unit 77473HFH, respond to designation Costello. Skelebots, confirm command."

Raleigh Ray then turned to a passing by Skelebot Technician and asked him, "Hey, we're fightin' demons today, so make certain these bad boys are loaded up with silver-shootin' rail guns. Okay? An' if their vibro-blades aren't silver plated, please swap them out for ones that are!""

Lastly, he went to find his power armor. On mission past, when he was assigned his own Terror Trooper power armor, Raleigh Ray practically creamed his jeans thinking he'd never get anything better. But there she stood; a fresh-off-the-production-floor, barely broken in, shiny new Death Knight!

"Dear God, please don't let me trash this thing fresh out o' the gate." he said in quick prayer.

With the clock ticking, Raleigh Ray wasted no time in getting the power armor outfitted. Around its waist in utility compartments and along its back in a utility pack, he put the heavy toolkit, duffle containing the tightly paked CA-7 armor, his personal armaments, and some provisions should he get separated... like pulled into one of the two Hell dimensions the enemy called home.

And lastly, he downed the last of his coffee, shook out the paper cup, and from his pocket withdrew some shredded packing foam. He placed a small loop of duct tape on the inside bottom of the cup and then started pressing in some of the squishy foam till it was anchored inside, filling the cup about a third of the way up. Finally, with his spill-proof spit-cup ready for action, the ingenious boy from the backwoods used more duct tape to a fix the cup inside the Death Knight power armor, perfectly located to permit easy spitting.

Ready to rumble, Raleigh Ray began to look for the others of his squad, looking to see if anyone needed help getting their shit together.

Briefing room
Morning
Round 0

Cassandra settled into her seat, a fresh coffee and a toasted bagel smeared with generous amounts of vegetable cream cheese from the break room down the hall in her hand. She quickly put them down and stood to attention when the NCO barked them to attention and an officer in an armored uniform walked into the briefing room.

When Cassandra’s name was called, she stepped forward. She beamed with pleasure as she received her promotion to Private First Class.

Her excitement was dampened when the briefing continued and it was told they would be facing the hordes of Hell. “Mother of God…” Cass crossed hers.

When the briefing ended, she went up to her new CO and saluted. “Private First Class Cassandra Maverick reporting,” she told Frost. “I’m your psi-corps soldier, sir.” She indicated the PSI-CORPS patch on her breast opposite her name patch.

In the armory, Cassandra got herself fitted out in her new armor. She moved around, practicing getting the feel for it. “Wish we had more time,” she murmured, swinging her arms to make sure she had good freedom of movement in the heavier armor.

Then she headed over to the Cage and strapped on her special, experimental CM-80 and picked up her CM-30. She wasn’t sure what good they would do against demons. The new silver bayonet was nice, though.

When she was ready, she joined the others.

“Well, that might be the smart way to play it @Raleigh Ray Colton, but ain’t no one ever accused me of that before,” Stephen replies as if he doesn’t understand exactly what he just implied, “I like to go all in when I’m bettin’. Show ‘em I mean business and then knock ‘em down if they come at me. Hell, I nearly won the Christmas tournament at the Lucky Boy that way!”

Back in the Armory:

Steve thanks the tech as he fiddles with his PA system and grabs his bundle of armor. He chuckles as he hits the button for his public address.

In a strange accent of barely recognizable American, Stephen shouts, “GET TO DA CHOPPA!”

Several soldiers jump and everyone claps their hands over their ears as the PA, accidentally set to maximum volume, blares deafeningly.

“Uh, shit—“ Steve mutters as he frantically searches for the volume control and adjusts it.

He blushes a bit, although none can see it, and mumbles, “Sorry. I, uh, turned the volume up I guess.”

He quickly exits the armory and heads towards the chopper.

Frost is standing inside the Armory noting equipment as the team members gather it together and head for the chopper. He looks over at Gregg, "You download the specs and performance data on the Demon Locust?"

Gregg nods.

"Anything specific we need to be aware of?"

Pulling up a large tablet, Gregg begins scrolling through various data and information on the Demon Locust and Frost looks on. Each time Gregg stops the scrolling screen, Frost makes a mental note of the highlighted details. By the time they have gone through the entire digital document, Frost knows what Gregg does.

"Got us equipped to hunt Elephant Seals. And all in silver. "

Flipping the tablet longways, Greeg shows Frost a proposed loadout for the squad. Everyone except Bouchard is in the chopper.

"Two PAs. Four Jet Packs. And a Pair of Skellies to top it off."

As Gregg nods in agreeance, someone blasts across a Power Armor public address sytem, "GET TO DA CHOPPA."

Frost does not make eye contact but he is certain it was @Stephen Phillips. Hope Hillbilly has had some flight time.

Operation Trainspotting: Mission Start

Post by High Command »

Operation Trainspotting: Mission Start
  • Date: January 1, 110 PA
Time: 0930 by end of post.
Temp: 8°, Bitterly Cold outside. Not snowing.
Weather: Mostly Cloudy, Only a light dusting of snow and plenty of ice
Ley Line info: There are multiple ley lines in the ruins of Old Chicago, but none close to the base at Fort Resilience.
    Location: Fort Resilience; Armory/Hangar 17Charlie-Bravo (Hangar 17C-B)
At 0915, Frost receives a incoming transmission to his tablet that tells him to go get a new tablet from the supply folks. On it is a set of battle plans and flight plans. The ones for his squad are highlighted.
Objectives for Indigo Platoon, Bravo Squad
Objectives for Indigo Platoon, Bravo Squad
  • Travel to location marked Waypoint Romeo-17-Charlie-Bravo-1 (R17CB1).
  • Deploy Sniper (Perry) and Spotter (Steelcreek) to tallest structure nearby that is not one of the marked objectives. Suggested location is Waypoint Romeo-17-Charlie-Bravo-2 (R17CB2). Whereever they are deployed should be redesignated as Waypoint R17CB2.
  • Deploy Colton, Skelebots, and Phillips to Waypoint Romeo-17-Charlie-Bravo-3 (R17CB3). Their mission is to prepare it for demolition. Goal is to bring it down over the street to the north. Do not activate explosives yet.
  • Deploy yourself, Maverick, Bouchard, and EC77 to Waypoint Romeo-17-Charlie-Bravo-4 (R17CB4). Plant explosives to bring the building down onto the street south of the building. Do not activate explosives yet.
  • Gather up your team and redeploy to Waypoint R17CB2. Prepare a LZ for the incoming automated fire support platoon (Skelebot Platoons CBA1-DFE0-891A and CBA1-DFE0-702F; 4 squads per platoon marked 0-3). Targeting priorities will come from you. All skelebots are armed with C-200 Railguns with silver ammo.
  • Those two buildings will define the killbox for artillery fire. Once the enemy enters the kill zone, contact fire control so that long range missiles bombardment may commence. Detonate the building R17CB4 just as their main force is wholly in the kill box. Then detonate building R17CB3. By the time both buildings are down and the enemy trapped and disoriented, the missile bombardment should impact them. Your squad's job at that point is to provide additional targeting and cover fire. Use all assets as needed. You may delegate automated fire support platoons and squads among your troops as you see fit.
  • Silver Ammo is available for all ballistic rifles as well.
Assignment: Brief your team on these objectives and make sure their kit includes multiple energy and silver based weapons in order to kill demons.
To anyone taking the CP-40 they are issued, one of the armory corporals says, "Hey, you might want to look at the other offerings. They are giving you guys a lot of choices. But you didn't hear that from me." He points them towards the armory.

Frost and Gregg arrive at the chopper before the rest of the squad. Effortlessly stowing their gear in the new bird, they are in the middle of pre-flight checks as the squad arrives. Frost inspects everyone's gear and equipment and makes recommendations as appropriate. When he is happy with their loadout, he shows each team member where to store their gear. Gregg continues with pre-flight checks.

Note
Please ask High Command in HO for recommendations regarding upgrades. I do not have the working knowledge he does of CS Weapons.

As, Frost, I can requisition items should High Command say that we can attempt to get them.
With the entire crew assembled, Frost gives the brief.

"Our mission has us deploying to the front asap."

"We are to secure a postion for @Dina Perry and @Steelcreek to not only cover us during phase one but to also keep us abreast of enemy movements."

Taking his tablet out, Frost draws a rough sketch of how the killzone should look. "The two demo teams should be looking for buildings big enough to entirely block the street. The demo is to be set for remote detonation."

"We will pull back to Perry and Steelcreek's position and prepare a Landing Zone for our reinforcements."

"Steelcreek and Perry, I need you to begin Lazing targets in the killzone. Those coordinates should be sent to Gregg in the chopper and then relayed to CS Artillery Command, at these frequencies."

"Demo Team Alpha or should I call you "Hillbilly Pride" will be @Raleigh Ray Colton, the Bots, and @Stephen Phillips. You will be deployed first in the North sector of our killzone."

"Demo Team Bravo will be myself, @Solène Bouchard, @Cassandra Maverick, and EC77. We will be in the southern sector of the killzone."

Motioning to his sandtable on the tablet, "We will all need to return to this location R17CB2."

"There should not be any reason for us to be in the killzone after the charges have been set. We do however want to take up positions to keep the enemy in the killzone."

Frost notices that Gregg has finished the pre-flight checks. Heading over to his position at the rear of the bird, he notes the few issues that Gregg has noted and signs off on the pre-flight check off.

"Gregg, we need to quickly identify insertion and extraction points for the primary points. I trust you to fly aerial recon and to keep us on task. You will have open comms during phases one and two. Phase three will be my call."

Back In the Arnory

Dina heads down to the Armory after introducing herself to the new CO and receiving her orders.

CA-7 Commando Armor, check
Jetpack, check
gear, check

She goes to the Supply Sargent to get directed to where she needs to go to be fitted for her armor and jetpack.

She salutes the Sargent, "Private First Class, Dina Perry, here for my gear load out. The Captain, said we should be loaded with silver as well."

"You're good, silver is already standard for your gun. Your gear is over there." The Sargent replied as he pointed at one place. "Report over there for armor and jetpack fitting." He pointed at another place.

Dina proceded to be fitted for armor and the jetpack. Then she grabbed the rest of her gear and check to make sure everything was in order. Next she went to met up with the rest of the Squad

With that she runs through her pre-flight checklist preparing for the haul into the AO. She is very grateful for the SAMAS. The idea of riding in the back of a helicopter unable to control where she is going is terrifying. Maybe that made her a control freak or maybe it made helicopters big flying coffins. Maybe both.

Frost had waited for Bouchard to respond. He noted the subtle inflections in her response. Certainly from the North.

Approaching the SAMAS @Solène Bouchard, he taps the comms on his helmet to go person to person. [In French] "Corporal Bouchard, what flight experience have you had? Solo, Formations, or Both?"

"Both," she replies curtly. Quickly she decides to make an effort at civility, "Only done mixed-helo operations in training. You don't see many Demon Locusts outside of regional state forces. Usually escorting Skylifters or Death's Heads but the doctrine is essentially the same."

"Good."

"Wait a minute or two after the chopper lifts off, then assume a position at the chopper's 10 o'clock and 20 meters out. Don't want the wash from our rotors interferring with you flight and nav controls."

Turning around to face the rest of the squad. "My name is Sergeant Kaihuata Frost. I and my pilot, Private Gregg, have been reassigned to the 17th SOG."

The 6 foot plus tall man underneath the Dead Boy armor is massive. One might say that his muscles have muscles. Although those looking closely will notice that his right leg seems to be cybernetically enhanced and no muscular motions of any kind happen there.

"Call me Sergeant Frost. Call me Frost or Sergeant. Someday if we are together long enough I might even tell you how to pronounce my first name."

"Some logistics. @Raleigh Ray Colton Colton and @Stephen Phillips Phillips with your Demon Killer PAs will sit back to back near the cockpit. Colton your two bots will sit positions 2 and 3 on your seat. @Cassandra Maverick Maverick, you will take position 2 in Phillips row and EC77 will have positon 3. @Dina Perry Perry, you have position 4 in Phillips row and @Steelcreek Steelcreek you have position 4 in Colton's row."

"Exiting the chopper is crucial. PAs and Skellies should be no problem, as we will be getting as close to ground as possible to insert you. Jet packs are a bit different. If you are in a jetpack and need to exit the chopper, weapons should be secured to your sides and front. Step off the landing skids, count to 3, and activate the jetpack to slow descent. Activate to early and you end up in my rotors and that ends bad for both of us."

Frost pauses in a moment of thought and concern crossed his face, under his breath, "The only time I lost a bird in flight."

Cassandra studied her options in the armory and then took up the CA-116A Close Combat Pump Rifle with a bunch of silver slugs and MPAS shot. Anything not demon her standard laser rifle would take care of.

Cass listened to the briefing and studied the map. Then she made her way to the chopper, taking her assigned seat as she familiarized herself with her new rifle. She went through her meditation exercises to keep her mind clear and ready herself for combat.

Once sure his gear was ready to go and no one else on the team was in need of his assistants, Raleigh Ray went over to the huddle for the mission briefing.

OOC: Frost *just* said his name In his introduction. How could its pronunciation still be a mystery?? ... Oh well. Going with it for now.

Raleigh Ray's face frumpled a bit at being told that the new Sergeant's first name was effectively classified, or worse too good for him to know. Men who go to war with each other should know at least that much basic information about each other. What kind of ego did this man have to think himself so much more high-and-mighty in the rest of them?

But then as Sergeant Frost spoke more, Raleigh Ray's ears begin to detect it; the hint of a northern accent.

`Ah! Another Frenchie! Or close enough to it. That explains the attitude.' he thought to himself as the realization came to him. With the man's assumed background accepted Raleigh Ray took the rest in stride?

"Questions?"
Raleigh Ray turned slightly to his new partner Phillips and loudly whispered, "Hillbilly... he says that like it's an insult."

He then turned his attention back to Sergeant Frost for a question. "Anyhoo... yeah, question. Demo kits and explosives weren't issued wit' our gear from the Cage. What kind of boom-boom toys are we gettin' issued?"

Operation Trainspotting: Mission Start
  • Date: January 1, 110 PA
Time: 1000 by end of post.
Temp: 9°, Bitterly Cold outside. Not snowing.
Weather: Mostly Cloudy, Only a light dusting of snow and plenty of ice
Ley Line info: There is a ley line running through the AO and no spot is more than one half mile outside the ley line's influence. There is a ley line nexus 3 and a half miles southeast that is the presumed initial destination of the demon army.
Location: Designated AO for Operation Trainspotting, hovering over Waypoint R17CB1. Map Here
As the troops gather on the chopper, they see a few crates of demo gear being lashed against the walls of the chopper's interior. An bill of lading on the crate shows enough detonators and explosives to level several buildings, at least to the trained eyes of the unit's trained combat engineers.

Looking over the area, there is one clear road through the area and it is surrounded by large buildings. Based on the information the squad has, they have been prepared by combat engineers to be largely impassable to anything other than infantry and smaller power armor (Size 2 and below). There is a ruined lab and a parking garage that could easily be used for the forward choke point. The rear choke point has three buildings that could suffice, though it is the ten story garage that is marked as the obvious target for their needs.

Operation Trainspotting - Round 1
Three tasks are on plate to begin things. This will be a SWADE style Dramatic Task. Each Success and Raise nets you a Token. Each roll should also cover some narrative as well. Explain what you intend to happen.
  • Tactical Task 1: (Colton and Phillips) Wire a building (or buildings) to bring it down to create a forward choke point. Suggested skills: K/Demolitions (One Token must be from this skill), Notice, K/Electronics (for scanning), K/Engineering, Psionics, and any other skill that you can work into the narrative. Need four tokens.
  • Tactical Task 2: (Frost, Maverick, Bouchard, Dogboy) Wire a building (or buildings) to bring it down to create a rear choke point. Suggested skills: K/Demolitions (One Token must be from this skill), Notice, K/Electronics (for scanning), K/Engineering, Psionics, and any other skill that you can work into the narrative. Need six tokens
  • Covert Task 1: (Perry and Steelcreek) Set up a good sniping and spotting position with areas for cover for multiple fire positions. Suggested Skills: K/Engineering, Stealth, Notice, Survival, Psionics, and any other skill you can make work in the narrative. Need four tokens.
Wherever they are deployed should be redesignated as Waypoint R17CB2.

The helicoptor came into the area of operations with little problem. Cassandra grabbed a handful of the demolition charges and got out with the rest of her team and surveyed the area in reality rather than just with a map. She saw her team’s objective, the big ten level parking garage on the north side of the street.

“Let’s go!” she yelled over the noise of the helicopter. “I’ll take point clearing the structure!”

Cassandra called a halt before they reached the parking garage and focused her mind, reaching out with her vision to do a psionic sweep of the parking structure with her clairvoyance ability. “Seems clear,” she reported, and the team moved in to physically sweep the building and plant the demolition charges.

Bouchard steers clears of the demo charges, instead choosing to use the optics system in her SAMAS unit to survey the target for structural weak points. The flight capabilities on her armour prove useful as she is able to ascend the building quickly, walking into the top floors and assessing the situation. Being able to fly through parts of the inside and to fly around the exterior she pieces together all the scans into a comprehensive 3D schematic that she passes on to the engineers to help determine the best place to plant explosives for maximum effect.

@Solène Bouchard does well flying at the 10 oclock position 20 meters out and 10 meters down. The SAMAS performs fantastically in hover, providing cover while Gregg and himself hold the chopper 20 meters above Waypoint Romeo-17-Charlie-Bravo-2 (R17CB2) and @Steelcreek and @Dina Perry make the free fall into their sniper's nest.

Following his instructions both Steelcreek and Perry step off the landing skids and in their feet first decent activate their jetpacks in time to lightly touch down on their OP. "Steelcreek. Perry. Get sighted in and lay down ranges to the various targets. Send me coords for plausible LZs for our assigned Skellie Squads. Frost out."

The chopper reclaimed altitude and coordinates from Perry and Steelcreek provided a feasible LZ for @Raleigh Ray Colton, @Stephen Phillips, and the paired skellies to be deployed with a short series of platform jumps starting 50 meters up. "Hillbilly Pride. Set those charges. And cover your sixes. Rally Point Charlie. Mark it. Will be back as soon as your dets are set. Frost out." At the word out, Gregg takes the bird straight up to altitude for the last drop.

Frost looks left over Gregg's shoulder where Bouchard is flying wing. Tapped into cockpit mics only, "She is good Gregg. She knows her suit well."

Switching over to general internal mics, piped to helmets of those remaining and Bouchard,
"Heads up for the last demo team. The chopper will hover over our AO and await our completion.
@Solène Bouchard I leave it to you to give us suitable demo/det placements.
@Cassandra Maverick and EC77, I need intel. Use your special senses. Give me the details we can not see on scanners and infrared.
I will set the charges once Bouchard has identified their placement.
Bouchard. Maverick. EC77. provide security while I get the charges in place and wired.
Prepare for deploy in 5. 5. 4. 3. 2.
"

Jetpacks engage as Maverick and EC77 step off the landing skids and they use the thrusters to lightly touch down in their AO while Bouchard flies a series of circuits marking locations for femo and det placement. With the chopper 20 meters up, Frost opens his pilots door and slides down to hold the landing skid in his hands. As if on cue, Gregg makes the decent down to 5 meters above the hard surface, the floor, and Frost jumps the last distance. Not that anyone would be noticing but his bionic legs engage and absorb the impact of his large frame landing.

She detaches a large case from her back and starts setting up multi gun mounts and putting them into positions to cover the LZs.

As the helicopter soared through the sky, a jubilant joy of excitement filled the heart of Raleigh Ray. The simple Ozark boy beamed with anticipation and started to hum and old classic tune; Ride of the Valkyrie by some long forgotten composer; now the opening theme to his favorite cartoon, Sky Strike Sammy.

"Bom Ba Ba Bah Baaah!♫"
"Bom Ba Ba Bah Baaah!♫"
"Bom Ba Ba Bah Baaah!♫"
"Ba Ba Bah Baaaaaaaaah!♫"

Raleigh Ray decided to outright ignore any ugly looks from any of the others. he was feeling the zone and wasn't going to let any fuddy-duddies detract him.

As the LZ in the AO came into view, he reached over and gave Phillips a friendly punch with his power-armor-clad scrawny pipe-cleaner arm. "We got dis'!" he reassuringly yelled over the beat of the helicopter blades and the whir of its engine.

Ready to get to business, Raleigh Ray spit into his dip-cup, and then sealed up his Death Knight PA helmet and quit screwing around.
Kaihauta Frost wrote: The chopper reclaimed altitude and coordinates from Perry and Steelcreek provided a feasible LZ for Raleigh Ray Colton, Stephen Phillips, and the paired skellies to be deployed with a short series of platform jumps starting 50 meters up. At the word out, Gregg takes the bird straight up to altitude for the last drop.
Thanks to the powerful power armor, Raleigh Ray descended to the Earth with a modest thunk, landing on his feet like a cat. To either one of his sides, a similar thunk sounded as his two skelebots landed to his flanks; Abbott and Costello.

"Let's get to work, Philips... an' keep an eye out fo' trouble in case we bump into any advanced scouts.", he beamed to his teammate via shortwave.

Turning to his two robotic killers, Raleigh Ray issued them he's standing orders for the moment. Abbott, Costello, keep close formation on us while we do our work and watch out for hostiles.

Once at their assigned building, Raleigh Ray got to work scanning the area looking for the proper placement of the charges. After he found the right spot indicated by the machinery, he turned his keen analytical eye to the structure to optimize the charges placement and explosive quantities. As he set the charges, Raleigh Ray was already missing his old annoying roommate, Wright may have been a pain in the ass, but the man knew his way around the boom-boom.

  • Date: January 1, 110 PA
Time: 1100 by end of post.
Temp: 10°, Bitterly Cold outside. Just started snowing lightly.
Map Here
As the teams set up their trap, more transports come in with the skelebots. They land and set up as directed. The transports then head out of the Operational Area. Only the helicopter is left and it is hidden from view in what remains of a large room on the roof of the building they are atop. Both buildings are ready to drop. There is plenty of visual cover between the spotter/sniper team and the enemy. And the firepoints for the skelebots and their squad mates are fairly well concealed as well. But neither Steelcreek or Perry can figure out how to put enough rubble in the way of incoming fire to matter. Not in the time allotted.

The two buildings (The Alpha choices of both sets) are easy enough to rig to bring down. The skelebots and Phillips end up in a short firefight with some demons playing cards at the bottom of their building, but some very simple tactics ensure the complete destruction of the four demons. Colton, for his part, simply stays a few floors up and uses the scans done by Phillips to set his charges. After the enemies are down, he also sets up some charges on the first floor, using the dead bodies of the demons and some rubble to hide them. He thinks about setting a booby trap, but instead decides on the radio transmission that had already been approved.

Frost and Augustus end up doing the large part of the demolitions work, though the scans handed off by Bouchard show her utter familiarity with the work. In fact she finds some structural weak spots that were not obvious and Maverick manages to use her psychic abilities to find yet another squad of demon scouts. It's not even a fight when Bouchard hoses them down with railgun fire. If they weren't demons Cassandra might feel bad, but they aren't and she doesn't.

As the forces of the demons roll in, the soldiers are confused to see more than a few armored vehicles in the midst of the sea of demons: A tank with a great maw that opens and roars, and a roller tank with demons mounted on its back on turrets, and a few catapults being pulled along by the roller tanks. Seeing fifteen and twenty foot demons with wings and horns seems commonplace comparatively. The first building to call literally crushes two of the roller tanks and their catapults. The rear building takes out dozens of demons that break ranks to run away, and the initial strike, edged ever so slightly at the last moment by Steelcreek, strikes at the heart of the formation, bringing down some of the buildings into alleys that the demons might use to escape. And then everyone opens fire. Several armored vehicles remain, as do several larger demons easily identifiable as field commanders of some sort. Many fall to the weight of the gun fire unloaded by the skelebots and the soldiers commanding them.

But as the sounds of the explosions from the first missile hits die, the demons surge! Soldiers sprint into the buildings, climb the side, and take to the air. One particularly large bull demon raises a banner high and bellows. On its red surface a black bull with its horns pointing down looks ready to charge. A rallying cry sounds as they surge after their attackers. The fight has begun! Every shot counts, and despite the fact demons are not usually well equipped at range, these seem to have no shortage of strange weapons attached to them. They fire destructive energy and the first to hit their cover and obliterate their dogboy reminds them all that visual cover does no good against heavy weapons. But abandoning the fire points is just as much a death sentence as it allows the enemy to move without harassment from the soldiers. Still, if anything, Private Augustus proved that one must keep DOWN.

Operation Trainspotting - Round 2
Things are beginning to happen! The Next two rounds will have the same objectives. The sooner you fill them, the easier your end battle will be. There are two tasks: Call in artillery and kill the enemy. The priority tasks for those not spotting is to take out high danger targets - flyers, armored vehicles, leaders, etc.
  • Tactical Task 3: The time is now! You may call upon the following resources:
Anyone using the fire support rules may take out one hard target with a raise. A success merely kills tons of mooks and adds to the needed tokens. Each raise takes out a hard target (in the OOC above) and adds a token.
Everyone else may use any combat type skill they'd like. Shooting takes no penalty, but if you roll a critical failure, you will take a wound (which you can soak normally with a Benny). Fighting and Throwing (grenades mostly) takes a -2 penalty, but everyone who might want to fight in close combat has the jump jets and knowledge of the terrain to escape back out of the fray (not to mention those escaping into the building you're in). Every two raises a single character has removes one hard target.

You have the following additional options:
    • Due to the skelebot squad literally everyone has working with them (there is enough skelebot squads for everyone, including the dogboy, to have a squad dedicated to them. You may sacrifice one to add +2 to your roll. In doing so, however, you will degrade the amount they can make your final battle easier. You may also sacrifice one to give yourself a +2 on a soak roll, if needed (still have to spend the benny to soak it though).
    • You may willingly take a level of fatigue or a wound to give yourself a +4 to your roll (Just remember the penalty it gives you later in the combat). You may not mitigate it this round.
    • If you shoot, you will use either one e-clip, 1 grenade, or 1/5 of your ammunition by default. You may double this expenditure for an additional +2.
You have two rounds to meet to token goal.

    You need 18 success tokens.

As Phillips dispatched the quartet of demons, Raleigh Ray Colton managed to afix the last of the demolition charges to the crucial points of the building's structure. But it didn't take long for the rest of the enemy to begin to rear its ugly head. The Demonic foot soldiers Raleigh Ray expected... the otherworldly mechanized armor, he did not!

"... what in all tarnation hell fuck are those?" the Ozark boy gawked, looking at the demon army's armored column coming up through the shambled city.

Raleigh Ray looked to his side and caught a glimpse of the team's new dog boy, Private Augustus, clinging against the cover of some loose rubble. Good thing I rubbed his head for luck! he thought to himself, hopeful the superstition would offer some protection.

A split second later burst of energy erupted from the demonic enemy column, blasting Private Augustus and his cover into tiny smoldering doggie bits. Raleigh Ray's heart sunk like a lead fishing weight in the Mississippi. "I got'a stop doing that to dogs. Apparently it's the kiss of death."

"Alright, Phillips, it's time ta punch the doughnuts! Focus on the job, and then get yo' trigger goin'!" the corporal beamed to his partner of the day via directional short-wave.

With his part done, Raleigh Ray spit into his dip cup and got to the business of soldiering. With his Death Knight's C-60 particle beam cannon primed for action (opting to save his missiles for later targets of opportunity), he took aim at the lead armored vehicle and steadied his aim from the cover of whatever the building could offer. But before opening up, the Ozark boy decided to round up his posse...

"Abbot, Costello, Skelebot Units 1 through 8. Take up firing positions and provide support fire around my point of fire. Focus on the foot soldiers with your rail guns with suppression fire. Fall back to alternate firing positions and cover when they return fire, then resume fire. Don't give them an easy target, but keep the heat on. Go on my mark."

With orders quickly issued, it was time to get down and dirty. "And... now."

Marvelling at the massive monstrous machines carrying the demons Bouchard monetariliy ignores the air radar warning beeping in her ear. Recovery quickly she scans the horizon to see an escort of flying sub-demons moving with the convoy. They were above the blast radius and remained relatively unharmed and were flying in a thick pack toward the 17th!

Taking on her role as combat air cover she rockets toward the demons without hesitation. Normally range would be her friend but these creatures appear to have adapted to human fighting styles. Magical bolts of lightning and fire spew forth from bony spears and swords in their hands, forcing Solene to take immediate evasive maneuvers. The demons may have learned some human tricks but their bat-like wings don't compare to the jet-engines of a Striker SAMAS. She quickly speeds behind a ruined building letting the derelict take the brunt of fire. Stopping on a dime behind the building she opts not to loop around the other side but fly straight up an pop over the top and fire an immediate missile volley.

The move catches the demons looking the other way and a half-dozen high explosive warheads cut into their ranks. Seizing the moment she flies on a downward angle of attack chasing her missiles with hard bursts of electro-magnetic rail gun fire. The high speed projectiles tear into demon hide and wings as she holds down the trigger while zooming right through their midst and then ducking behind another building preparing for another pass.

Round 0

Cassandra stared with surprise at the heavy tanks and large demons. “They didn’t mention those in the briefing,” she said. As the buildings came down to trap the horde in the kill zone and the others started opening fire, Cassandra began moving down the line. A light touch from her enhanced the synapses, increasing accuracy and rate of fire, making them better shooters and fighters.

“I’ll cover our rear,” Cass said, focusing on using her clairvoyance to scan the building beneath them for any demons that might be coming up even as she provided supporting fire against the fliers or took a moment to cut down any rear assault.
Hard Target?
I think I can take out a hard target here? Given the narrative, I'll take out one of the maggot demons, since Dina took out the demon locust.

Dina sees the demon army come put of nowhere and while the others seem to be focusing on ground targets, Dina sets her sights on those fliers. She aims her Rail Gun and starts firing on the fliers.

This of course gets their attention, especially when her well aimed shot drops one of the demon locusts from the sky.

"Look out below!" Dina calls out into the radio.

She keeps firing at the other fliers as they head for her and Steelcreek's location. Her persistence scores another win as the second demon locust fails to the ground.

"Second one but we got inbound."

However, those were not the only flying members of the demon army and a few of the smaller flying demons managed to reach snipers nest, putting Dina into melee combat, where her skills are not so great. Dina is wounded but she manages to fight off demons.

The sound of incoming artillery is music to the 17th’s spotter.

Steelcreek is impressed with their new commander's ability to call in fire; he's surprisingly accurate, and Steelcreek can respect that. But, good as @Kaihauta Frost, this is what Rangers do.

He lines up his Ozark Special pistol, with Colton's Frankenstein scope attached, and once again activates the spotter scope, giving him laser-point accuracy to direct that incoming fire. He calls in the coordinates, directing it south juuuuuust a little bit, catching one of those epic-looking artillery tanks in the blast and turning it into so much demon-slag.

His eyes roam the field, finding the other artillery tank, and he immediately begins shifting fire again. Artillery is his, and the damned demons can't have it. He keeps the heaviest fire on the second artillery tank until it and everything around it are rubble.

While he manages all this, @Dina Perry keeps a wave of little demons off of their backs. His heart swells as he is aware of her work, never taking his eyes off his targets.

Not for the first time, he thinks, nothing like good hunters. We've got the best, and this is a hunters' buffet. They should've brought more.

" @Cassandra Maverick Maverick, just figure that you are never going to have all the details. Somethings are in field need to know only. Now you know."

Taking down notes from Gregg's aerial assessment, "Thanks for heads up."

@Raleigh Ray Colton and @Stephen Phillips "Ozark Pride, good use of the det blasts. Pick out solid targets for those skellie squads attached to each of you. They are expendable. You are not."

@Solène Bouchard is airborne and flying tight circles around her kills so Frost takes control of her assigned squad of souped-up skellies having them train their combined fires on the ground units tracking Bouchard's aerial manuevers. "Bouchard keep those circles tight. The fliers aren't breaking as fast as you are and are flying easily past your position and into your personal arms fire range."

While his gaze is fixed to the sky he sweeps over the remaining high rise structures and notes @Dina Perry and @Steelcreek hard at work. "Steelcreek and Perry. Keep refreshing the coordinates for artillery lock. If your position becomes compromised jet-pack out for chopper evac."

Frost sent direct instructions to the two skellie squads supporting Steelcreek and Perry's positions to not fire directly into the buildings but to shoot parallel to the walls and shred the demons off the walls as much as possible.

Frost was not going to discredit intel. Command had given just enough information to keep him and his squad alive. There was certainly more to the story. There always was.

His armor snapped off proximiting warnings of incoming hostiles. Frost came back to the present in a rush and spotted the ground below his position crawling with foot soldiers. Demonic foot soldiers.

Radoing in the two skellie squads at his disposal, Frost soon had the ground salted and peppered as silver flechetted rail gun fire tore apart the poorly armored foot forces of the demonic wave crashing in on his squad's position.

After five minutes of firing and pervasive bombardment, the enemy is reeling. With the flyers down, the artillery down, and most of the heavies gone, the troopers find they can focus fire on either the two bull demons or the two grinding demon tanks in addition to the hordes of demons. They have lost about 25% of their skelebots in addition to the dogboy (though who knows how many are truly lost, and not just disabled). By contrast the enemy force is down to a mere 25% of its original force. But that still leaves dozens, if not hundreds, of demons in their way. Still, they have them on the ropes. Considering their forces, they are doing exceptionally. Still they don't have much more time where they have exclusive access to the artillery and missiles. Tighter aiming and better ability to walk the targets need to be excercised to better eliminate the enemy before mop-up can commence. Still, it seems they are teaching these arrogant bastards what artillery really means!

Shooting 12, 3 successes, scratch one hard target bitches!

The idea of demons with tanks, acting like humans, disgusts Corporal Solene Bouchard deep in her being. The only appropriate response is to wipe those abominations from the face of the earth. Keying her radio she puts her skelebots to work from cover, opening herself an avenue of attack. "Weapons free. Heavy fire forward. Cover my advance."

As expected the robots flawlessly obey orders spraying the area with heavy fire from their CV-212s and mini-rail guns. The sheer force of their volley acts almost like a shield as Bouchard pops up from cover flying her SAMAS nearly straight up above the fighting then swooping downward in a hard dive. As she careens back toward the earth she fires missiles from every available launcher her tiny form erupting with the fiery wash of jet fuel propelling the missiles to their target. They all hit their target simultaneous engulfing it in explosions. Her first billet as an anti-armor specialist pays off as her projectiles hit critical areas on the demon tank, blowing treads, turrets, and occupants in every direction.

Cursing loudly in French, Bouchard banks away from the blast toward the safety of her skelebots.

"Splash one abomination."

"Copy good, team leader. Engaging solid targets imminently."

Looking down on the explosive carnage of war below him from his high perch atop the building, the good ol' boy took in not-a-small-modicum of pleasure in what he saw. The horrors of battle that he had partaken in and witnessed had prepared him for this moment... this moment in history when the Coalition truly began its battle against the inhuman. All else before was simply prelude.

Abbot, Costello, Lil' Rascle Squad, stay up here and give me support fire. Engage the targets I designate. And if the the demon shits get up here, kill 'am all and protect the demolition charged at all costs. he commanded his Skelebot legion.

Raleigh Ray spit in his cup, clearing his throat for his mighty battlecry. He turned to his partner of the morning, Phillips, and gave him a knowing nod and a flippant, sassy two-fingered salute.

Propelling himself into the air with his Death Knight's jump-jets (and using them to guide and cushion his fall), Raleigh Ray hollered out a classic Confederate rebel yell as he sprung into battle.

"Wa-woo-woohoooooooooo!!!"

No sooner did his rocket-propelled feet hit the ground did he start blasting away to clear the path to his intended dancing partner.

With the enemy in a state of disarray and their ranks decimated, Raleigh Ray knew that now was the time to pour on the heat. Till then he was holding his mini-missiles in reserve. Not any longer!

With a roller tank in his sights, Raleigh Ray charged into the fray to close the distance and get in optimal firing range. As he did so, he blasted away at the demonic foot soldiers that got in his way, and was pleased as his Skelebots followed his instructions, amplifying his firepower with their own. Though his armor's shield took a number of blasts on his approach, the Ozark boy managed to line up his shot.

Missile Damage, AP: [dice:hes08tdz]55131:2[/dice:hes08tdz] AP 20, MD
(Not sure if I should roll more given this storied system of combat, through I have 16 mini missiles and 2/5th of that is about 6. So let me know if you need 4 more damage rolls.)
.
Though the effort took a little more out of him than he expected, Raleigh Ray's efforts and gamble was rewarded with a satisfactory BOOM as the demonic roller tank went up in a massive fireball!

With his momentary objective met, Raleigh Ray used his to jump jets to clear the way and take cover inside one of the buildings once more. No need to make himself more of a target than he already had, and he felt it best to assess the situation before going too balls deep into the demon pile.

With his team having already taken down the biggest bad guys on the field, Steelcreek directs their incoming artillery fire to mop up everything left moving that isn't wearing black armor.

Status reports come in from the various squad members and Frost is pleased. Confirmed kills are being recorded and reported by Private Gregg.

All the big targets are gone and Frost wonders what and why these demon troops were here. What were you planning to accomplish here?

Not going to be much left for intterogation.

Being in one of the few locations where the demons could actually flee from the barrage of missiles, rail gun fire, and artillery. He had braced himself knowing that they would be using his position as a means for escape.

Demon grunts were climbing and clambering up the collapsed two story building where Frost stode. With CP-40 in hand he fires into the thickening masses of crazed demons. Where one escapes he stomps on heads and crushes torsos with his bionic left leg.
