3.1 Crushing it in the Blood Dome (Interludes)

Post by Daniel »

  • Time for a new Quarter

Please write your Interlude as detailed below. It grants Conviction. If you have conviction already it gives you a Zombie bennie (bennies that carry over between sessions).

I am also presenting ways to get an additional two bennies with additional writing. You might need all these bennies in the dangerous and hopefully fun upcoming adventure in the 3 Galaxies.

You will be awarded EP once I calculate it up based upon your posts etc within the first few days of April.

Also, everyone earns one Advance for the quarter we just played. You can add that now. I am not going to restrict Advance from anyone based on post rate. Not in our world we live in these days. We Advance as a team. Besides if you were joining the team you’d just be pulled to currant Rank. Nah, only thing Post Rate will determine is earned EP.

Crushing it in the Blood Dome (Interludes)
  • Interlude
You are in the Blood Dome. Conscripted as gladiators. You each owe the crowd 3 fights. (6 if Bonecrusher is not resurrected). We won’t be playing out each fight. You will have an opportunity to write out how some go below. You should be creative in the choices of what kinds of fights/events you are going to do. It can be typical fights or unique things. Note: Fighting to the death requires you to sign a waiver, it also does have the possibility of you earning local credits. If you write about fights to the death you can earn 1d6x10,000 in credits. Otherwise you earn only 1d6x1000 for the three "fights". As part of you Interlude, somewhere, make these rolls. Are you the type to fight to the death?

For Conviction / or zombie bennie
NO ROLLS NEEDED
Write about a time spent with another fellow slave/gladiator in the arena, either in battle or down time talking. This could be how you learn the information presented about the Blood Dome. Or possibly you learn other information about the planet or city. This is the main focus of the interlude, you and another gladiator and your time in the arena. Consider this to be a few weeks of time. You don’t fight every day. There are other things to do as you are here. Bathing in awesome bath houses. Eating amazing food. Wink wink stuff. Digital entertainment. You may overhear whispers of an upcoming escape that a group called the Deliverers is a part of. There are volunteers and not so voluntary gladiators here. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of outright slavery more like a debtor prison thing. (Not that I Dan condone that mind you).

Whatever you want to write about. While here you are allowed to keep your gear and such. Only the utmost dangerous weapons (stronger than a E Pistol) are kept in a gladiatorial armory when you are not fighting. The main thing is to bring to life your experience here and bring to life a new friend, or enemy, or annoying fellow gladiator you encounter. (Sentient or animal intelligence - pretty open here).

For a bennie
NO ROLLS NEEDED
Write about a conversation and or team up against other gladiators you have with Victoria Geist. Seriously. She’s being kept here too. As far as Lord Klynncryth is concerned she’s part of your group and in debt as much as you are. While here you see her in a weakened state. She is recovering from a near fatal head wound after all. The guards will step in and stop fighting between gladiators - save it for the arena. Consider her to be a Heroic Rank Ley Line Walker while stuck being a enslaved gladiator. She seems to be bidding her time and getting stronger and enjoying the fights. If you talk to her she will admit she had been trying to dimensionally portal the pyramid to Center. But not here. Being shot knocked her “landing” off. She will admit that Lord Klynncryth took her Rift Doninator device but didn’t seem to know what it does. As far as the whereabouts of the Legionnaires she is absolutely tight lipped. She says she’ll work with you all for now but she hints at the coming of something she calls the Outbreak. “We won’t be here too long. The Outbreak is coming.” She doesn’t seem to care about getting her device back. Not now. Again she doesn’t want to talk about the Outbreak but you get the idea it’s not the so called Deliverers that she is talking about.

Example Interlude
Quick Stats on a Gladiator I met in the Arena — from Geist’s point of view!
Image
Name:Zan’Grith
I.F.: Phase Mystic (Modified thematically from Mystic)
Race: Human Male
Born: On Phase World in the city of Center
Physical Appearance: Black and grey (peppered) hair, pale white (not albino, just sun deprived) skin. About six feet tall and stocky (well muscled).
Disposition: Quiet. Moody. Intelligent. An observer with little to say usually but when he does talk it’s often important.
Gladiatorial Notes and history: Born in Center he has lived his whole life here. At 44 years old he has spent a long time learning Phase powers which is rarely taught to non promeatheans (the “native” race on Phase World). He is rumored to have betrayed the promeatheans and was caught smuggling weapons off world and was handed over to the arena to die or try to earn his freedom (pay off his debts). He has proven to be an adept killer and gladiator and has stayed alive near a year now in the Blood Dome. He primarily uses his psychic phase powers and a gravitonic blaster in combat. He is also quite good with a energy trident and mounted on about anything from a hovercycle to most mounts.
  • ↠↠↠ For Conviction
Victoria followed the moody man she had just been paired up with in a combat into the Dome tunnels and to the armory to return weapons. She carried no weapons, relying on her magic instead. She watched as Zan’Grith handed the gravitonic blaster to the Conservitor armory quartermaster.

”What the fraq’n Kreggor balls was that lady?”

Zan held his trident out to the quartermaster next and looked at Geist.

Tall. Skinny. Blonde. Female. She looked tired. She had reopened the temple wound she had arrived with in the fight they just won. Fresh blood dripped down her right side from her head. They had just won, barely, a two on two battle in the arena.

For her part her look could have killed lesser men. Daggers shot from her eyes. Anger. Frustration. She was livid herself.

Victoria Geist spit at the floor by the Phase Mystics feet. His eyes followed the spit to the ground.

Zan’s eyes raised to look at the blood soaked woman.

He bolted at her. Fingers wrappings around her throat.

Both screamed. Grunted. Grappled. Her choking cries - his angry growls.

Falling to the ground, punching, scratching, breathing heavily.

Two Kydian guards pulled them apart.

”Stop it! Do not fight!” a guard yelled.

Zan and Victoria allowed the larger guards to separate them.

Marched separately to the gladiator barracks each was pushed, manhandled and thrown into the main gladiator down time area.

Around a half hour later they met up.

Victoria Geist had a tray of delicious food set out before her at a table when Zan’Grith sat down across from her. Zan was holding a fruit and taking bites out of it.

Both sat quietly for a while.

”Get it?”

”Hell yes. You doubted me?”

”Noooo. By the Ancients woman. You are one tough bitch.“

Victoria Geist smiled.

Then stuck her tongue out at the other gladiator.

”I got it you dope. Here. Under the table. Take it.”

Discretely the Phase Mystic took the key card from Victoria under the table.

”Thank you. I’ll get into the armory and get the weapons. Then I can hide them around the barracks. When the Deliverers arrive. We will be ready. We will escape this damned place.”

Victoria nodded. Then leaned closer to the man.

”I don’t care. Like I said. I got plans. Just remember our agreement Zan’Grith.”

Both gladiators stared at each other until Zan nodded.

  • ↠↠↠ For a Bennie / Time with Geist
Zan’Grith stood in the pool. Nude. Hot, hot water cascading down over him. This part of the bath house was designed to look like a underground cave with a hot waterfall.

Unreal yet relaxing sounds of tropical birds chirped quietly in the background of the falling water.

Zan stood still. Enjoying the hot water but oblivious to the sounds. He wore waterproof sound buds in his ears and listened to the newest album from Dres Marbles Left. Their new Intergalactic Acoustic Werks album.

Eyes closed he stood relaxed, mid chest deep in warm water. His minds eye replaying the most recent battle he had just had an hour ago in the Blood Dome.

Mounted on an alien beast he had wielded his typical weapons. A enchanted trident and his grav-blaster. Using his legs to control the beast he’d charged the larger Bio Borg monstrosity he faced. A pretty mild mannered being actually, he’d spoken to several times in the mess hall, who went by the name Hellbinder.

Ten minutes of clashing against each other and Zan had ripped the bio Borgs head off. Bloody. Deadly. Final. Unfortunately a stipulation of the fight. To the death.

Breathing deeply the Phase Mystic tried to only sense the hot water.

Hard to do when his inner eye screamed: You are being watched!

Opening one wet eye he looked around the pool.

There.

A seemingly human woman. One of the newcomers. The one with a head wound.

She was across the pool, also nude, hip deep in warm water, staring at him.

He felt an odd sensation. It was only odd because of where they were and the amount of death here. He’d not thought to be aroused while held against his will in a gladiatorial arena.

Closing his eyes Zan tried to ignore the feelings of being watched. He could still see her in his minds eye though. Temping. Tall. Thin. Long wet blonde hair covering her upper body.

Zan pushed such thoughts away. He had another to the death fight in an hour. The pools were designed to help a gladiator regenerate both physically and mentally. (O.O.C. An hour in the pool grants one free daily heal and provides the benefits of Improved Rapid Recharge of PP).

Several minutes later he felt the water moving near him. Removing the buds and opening his flint eyes he just looked her in the face unemotionally until she spoke.

”I’d like to talk to you. Please.”

Zan frowned at Victoria Geist. He was interested in what she had to say but made a point of not looking interested.

”Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat?”

  • ↠↠↠ For a Bennie / a fight
The devil unicorn stood on its hind legs and croaked out a horrific belch. Zan held its reigns as it charged the Deevil mounted on a Devilish beast.

He and his mount were only half the size of the larger Deevil and Deevil mount.

He and the Devil Unicorn were twice as fast, half as powerful.

As the Deevil rounded in on Zan it blasted bolts of death-blood-magic energy at the Phase Mystic. Years of training and dedication to the arts of Phasing negated the effects of the Devils attacks, the deevils magic was pushed away by the Phase Mystics power.

It had been a distraction. Giest rode a second mount and had the "ball" that was made of ice that occasionally erupted in electricity. She rode hard for the basket at the far end of the competitors areas.

Need Inspiration for Gladiator Ideas

You can come up with your own Gladiators for the Interlude. If you’re feeling stumped. Here are two images to give you inspiration lol.

A Tattoo Warrior — Scven He’s a true atlantean nomad who’s been around. He’s 150 years old and looks 25-30. He’s been around the 3G’s and is here for glory. He can leave anytime he wants. Well sorta. He has a contract to do 10 more fights or he has to purchase off fights (and he has the credits to do it, but won’t). He’s nice enough. Macho. Gruff. But nice enough. He is covered in tat’s and has a love for new things and adventure.
Image

12 ft tall female Bio Borg — Mags (Magitha)
She is here because her crew got caught in the old space piracy acts. She’s been a mercenary and a pirate for a decade. She’s glad the authorities didn’t just kill her. They killed her old pirate captain when they got caught. She has about 15 more fights, done 15 already then she’s free. Mags is into danger and intends to return to a space pirates life when done here.

You can also if needed, interact with Zan’Grith from my example post.

These are just ideas. You are very welcome to come up with your own NPCs!
Post you Interludes in this thread. You can do as many or as little of the topics as you like up to 1 Interlude, 2 bennies.

You have until April 9-10 (Sat/Sun) to post in the Bring Back Bonecrusher Thread, and to post here 1-3 topics as you desire. Thats two weeks. Then we will jump back into our game.

Thanks for playing!!

I REALLY could use the credits for fighting to the death, but I don't think there is any way I would be able to justify doing so to my fellow company members.

His first fight was a summoned creature fight. The creatures would fight to the death, but their summoners would be fine. After some discussion, it had been agreed that Golems would count as summoned creatures, so they sent Gargamel up against a summoned Alu. The outcome of this battle would come out from luck and the strategy of the summoner.

Gargamel flew out from his entrance while the Alu was only briefly visible before turning invisible as it entered. Knowing that his Golem wouldn't be able to see its foe until it attacked, Hans had Gargamel walk into the centre of the arena, opening its wings and throwing its arms wide, to the roar of the crowd. As expected, the Alu jumped onto the Golem and dug deep furrows into its clay, thinking its ability to ambush would be enough to take down its foe. Gargamel, however, was tougher than most Golems. The Golem was able to withstand the initial onslaught enough to start reforming its clay flesh, and Gargamel responded by... grabbing the Alu. Knowing that a Alu's, or Demon Hounds', biggest strength was attacking from ambush, Hans was able to neutralize that ability... and Gargamel started flying up. Higher and higher the two flew up into the air. The Demon Hound was eventually able to escape the Golem's grasp, and was seen to stagger before it again disappeared from view. When Gargamel was again fully regenerated from the Alu's attack mere seconds later, the Golem again started playing up to the crowd, arms and wings wide open as it invited the next attack.

Again and again the two repeated the scene... the Alu ambushing the Golem, the Golem attempting to grab the Demon Dog... flying up whether or not successful until fully regenerated... then coming back down for another round until one time the Alu was able to tear enough off of the Golem that it was downed. The Alu howled in victory... taking its eyes off of its foe... who then grabbed the Demon Dog with both arms while it was distracted and flew up into the sky. This time, however, the Golem was able to hold onto the Alu for longer, and by the time it was able to free itself, the fall was enough to incapacitate it.

As it had done after each of the previous times, the Golem raised its arms to the sky and opened its wings wide... this time with its foot on top of what remained of the summoned Alu.

Collecting his
1d6: [6] = 6 x1000 credits
credits, Hans could only sigh at the idea of what he might have been able to make.

  • Exploring the living quarters and amenities for the gladiators, Hans comes up to something that looks out of place... a pile of scrap. Knowing that Gargamel at his back can protect him from many threats, he starts investigating the pile... and finds out that it is actually a brutally mauled machine of some kind. It seems to have powered down due to almost running out of energy, after having been mauled in the arena. It also seems to be of Techno-Wizardry construction.
This was the sort of problem he could deal with, unlike figuring our how to secure Geist and bringing her back under their control. Working with his hands, and fixing or making things. Time to get to work.
Using his Universal Energy to Matter Converter only where absolutely needed to conserve its charge, Hans uses the tools in his Salvaging Armor to great affect. After a day's work, Hans had fixed the being, almost rebuilding it in the process with the help from his Converter. He focused the energy stored in his Silver Rings as well as all of his internal Psychic Potential Energy into its core, the only part of it that he did not have to fix... where it seemed that it kept its consciousness.

    And it started moving.

    And Talking.

    "Hello, I am

    Disposition: 'Helpful' and ANNOYING
Gladiatorial Notes and history: Never did get to fight yet due to pissing off the wrong lady Grackle who tore it apart and left it to run out of power.
, protocol unit. I specialize in inter-species relations. I am fluent in almost all known languages. Let me say thank-you for putting me together. Let me say that you do seem to be from a rather... rustic... world. You must be talented in repair due to being able to fix me up from all of the wounds that that nasty Grackle inflicted on me in spite of the complexity of my design. I do not know what she did it to me. I was just starting to tell her about all of the easy ways she could improve her status by changing how she dressed, walked, talked, and how she presented herself. Now looking at you, I can see that you have a lot that I can improve too..."

With that, Hans got Gargamel to puck up D3-P0 and fly off with it to the other end of the gladiator enclosure while intentionally tuning out Gargamel's hearing.

"Mister Dwarf... MISTER Dwarf!!! How can I help you if I am not near you... Mr. Dwarf... MR. DWARF!!!!"

Some times trying to be nice does not work out in the end. Being around the do gooders in his current company seems to have rubbed off on him a bit... until that ANNOYING protocol unit cured me of it
Write about a conversation and or team up against other gladiators you have with Victoria Geist. Seriously. She’s being kept here too. The Outbreak is coming.” She doesn’t seem to care about getting her device back. Not now. Again she doesn’t want to talk about the Outbreak but you get the idea it’s not the so called Deliverers that she is talking about.
  • "You know that if you help me escape your teammates, I can make it worth your while, Dwarf. I know you, Hans. I have known MANY versions of you, and they all have one thing in common... they want more and MORE credits. I heard you and your friends talking earlier. You want to get a spaceship. Once we get back to my associates, I can get you enough credits to buy you an interstellar patrol boat... small enough for you to run by yourself, yet big enough for you to live in comfort... and then send you back here to purchase the ship. There would even be enough room for you to set up a workshop for you to work on your Technowizardry. You could fly away in your personal ship and chase whatever business opportunities that you would want. Without the Tomorrow Legion, Black Company, or even the Megaversal Mercenary Force being in any position to chase you, you would be able to leave all of your problems behind you as you explore the Three Galaxies. I think the United Warlock Worlds have a few worlds that would very much welcome you as a citizen."

With a dirty look, Hans shakes his head in reply. These other versions of him that she knows must also include many that also have his loyalty to his companions. There was no way he could just leave his new friends behind... for however many credits... and there was no way Humble would leave this mission, nor would the rest. They were all do gooders... and as for himself... he was just too loyal to his companions.

"Sorry, Geist, even if I trusted you to uphold your end of any bargain, there is no way I could abandon my compatriots and there is no way that they will abandon this mission. You will have to see what ends up coming your way. I will not be betraying my companions."

"I will make sure you get enough credits for 2 of those ships... enough to customize the ship you buy plus lots of seed money for setting up your business. Think about it. You know it is in your best interest to agree."

Just turning his back on her, Hans makes his way back to his friends. Existence was dangerous, and it was best to have people that you could trust watching your back.

Re: 3.1 Crushing it in the Blood Dome (Interludes)

Post by Humble »

First Battle

Humble looked around the massive arena. This one was much larger than most he had fought in. Last time he was here it was while under the control of another being. The memories angering him just to think on. This time he was free, but that “freedom” felt sour in his mouth.

Who or what would they force him to fight, he wondered as he awaited his release. As the door slid open and he slowly strolled out onto the field he looked for enemies and saw none. Then small pins from around the building opened as strange creatures with serpentine bodies and insect like carapaces come out. Moving as one they began to circle Humble slowly.

Then suddenly they attacked, each moving on its own racing for him biting and moving on, then another. Each time they struck Humble grew in strength the essence of war empowering him until finally he caught one of the creatures as it lunged. Lifting it over his head he tore the creature in half only to find its acidic blood burning him. Layers of skin melting away from his head and back.

The others saw this as their chance and immediately moved in as one no longer strafing, this time dog piling on him each biting and pulling on him. Humble’s body healing as fast as they could injure him. Each time he crushed on in his hands or sliced one with his enchanted blades he would again be bathed in acid, the burning pain of his skin melting angering him even more.

When it was done Humble was exhausted, he had lost count of how many of the creatures he had killed and how many times he was burned by them. But the crowd was in a roar of excitement. Each viewer of his battle enjoying what they had scene.

Post by Ducky »

Ducky was chained to the wall. She had been like this for days. Some kind of punishment for mouthing off the splugorth. Being blind she could not see the large gash above her eye brow but she felt it. The light of the forge was dim in a place like this, she could barely feel her connection to it. A soft voice whispered through the rock. It sounded old and well weathered. “Don’t give up knight. Be the light in the dark places. Kiakaha.”

Her head swirled. Is the rock talking?

She whispered back, “I can’t go on…. The cosmic forge…. It has no reach here. I will not survive.”

Silence for a moment and then the rock whispered worlds of encouragement again. “Do not despair, your first fight is against Killgoth of Phaseword. A great guardian Kreeghor, he will kill you if you do not bring your hope into the arena.” The rock chuckled softly, “He cannot see out of his right eye and will always strike on your left.”

Ducky was soon dragged out and then soon after admist thunderous applause dragged back in. She was again chained to the wall whipped and then left to bleed.

The rock continued it’s parley, “You did good knight. Kiakaha.”

Ducky spat blood onto the floor. He arms felt like Uru weights. She would have collapsed surely if she was not chained to the wall. “I can’t… Go on. The forge is so dim here. It was a mistake to submit to this so called contest.”

The rock wall tried to bolster her spirits, “You did well. Killgor was no easy foe. Your next foe is will be far harder. Knight you must summon your eye blasts! Your foe, Mag Mor the unbearable will not be able to stop them.”

Soon Ducky was dragged again from her cage and tossed unceremoniously into the arena. Her captor’s brought her back soon after. Her eyes still glowed red and her fingers were blackened. She breathed and strained against her restraints wondering if the reassuring voice from the rock would return.

It did, bolstering her spirits once more, “Kiakaha! You were amazing. Your forge burns bright in your chest. You have one more foe knight. A true Atlantan earth shaper. He is old and frail. One direct blow from your mighty fists will end him. Go forth cosmo knight and be a champion!”

Ducky hung against the wall her chains slick with her blood. But inside her the voice had brought the dim light of the forge to a roaring inferno. She grimaced glad for words. I got this… “Thank you. I was so lost here but now…. I know I can make it.”

The rock was quiet. Her captors threw her back into the arena. It was a dirt circle surrounded by a raised terrace of seating. Creatures of all sorts cheered when she stood brushing the dirt from her face. Before her was a diminutive old man, rocks swirled around him. ”Kiakaha knight. It is time for you to be a champion.”

Later Ducky walked out of the arena carrying the broken old man in her hands. Her voice was wrought with emotion as she lay the body down in her cell. She knelt next to him and asked softly struggling to find her voice, “Why? Why help me if we were destined to meet in that arena?”

The old man’s eyes rolled into the back of his head as all strength left him,”Kiakaha…. Live forever strong so you can be a champion…” As his last words left his lips so did life leave his body. Ducky was alone and the rock wall no longer spoke.

Second Story about meeting someone
Quick Stats on a Gladiator I met in the Arena —
Dalgana.png
Name: Dalgana
Iconic Framework or MARS: Veteran Tattooed Monster Woman
Race: Ogre
Born: Unknown, she has been in the pits and an arena warrior for 20+ years, even after having earned her freedom.
Physical Appearance: A small and compact Ogre. Dalgana's build is one that even many humans find attractive. Her constant drive for action leaves no doubt that she is in shape for fight.
Disposition: Friendly, even in combat tends to joke and be light hearted.
Gladiatorial Notes and history: Humble does not know them all, but she has been in many battles.

Heading back to the pins where the fighters would wait, Humble’s eye caught on a familiar looking face. The attractive Ogre’s was an impressive specimen, while small for an ogre she was known for her intelligence and cunning.

One a slave the tattooed warrior had earned her freedom, but rather than giving up on the arenas still did fights to advertise her skills as muscle for mercenary crews. Humble immediately went over to see her. “Dalgana” He said as he approached.

“Humble Brokenchain? I thought you were freed and your master killed? Why are you in the pits again?” She asked, apparently pleased to see the giant warrior.

“I fight with friends. We were in the pyramid that crashed and the overseers have said we must pay for their losses.”

“Sounds right, one thing the splugorth do not like is losing money.” As they began the conversation soon developed into a relaxing one. As they each shared some of their adventures and enjoyed some drinks.

From the sounds of it she had been to a dozen worlds in the 10 years since he had last seen her. Some engaged in fierce battles and others simply to look tough so some slob of a boss can avoid a fight. “Its had its ups and downs. But I am still here and we are still in the fight.” She finishes as they drink a last toast.

As they parted Humble was disappointed she chose not to bed him, saying she needed to conserve her strength. “I am going to some backwards planet that does not even have magic. Working a job for some rogue CCW Officers. I need to be in the best condition. You know how they get about pompous shit.”

“CCW, eh, they like to keep themselves clean and let others do the work. The worst kind to work for. Watch your back, they like to leave assets in the field if they are not CCW also. Humble as they part ways.

Quick Stats on a Gladiator I met in the Arena —
Name:"Needles"
Iconic Framework or MARS: Cowboy
Race: Clszymllxbrrxxyfwrr
Born: PA 90
Physical Appearance: A humanoid cactus
Disposition: Exuberant, outgoing (for someone who can't talk--uses gestures)
Gladiatorial Notes and history: Needles is a flashy fighter, typically appearing in "Submission" matches. While such matches are usually of less appeal to the bloodthirsty crowd at the Dome, Needles usually has a good draw because he puts on an amusing show. He uses an electrified lariat (combines the effects of a thrown net with those of a neural mace).
Beyond that, when the match rules permit it, Needles rides Stretch, an alien mount with six legs and a pair of long tentacles that emit a mild contact poison. Both Stretch and Needles are capable of acrobatic antics that would make a Flooper take notes, and since Submission Matches usually favor tricky and spectacular terrain, the duo can turn almost any such setting to their advantage, again upping the entertainment value of the show.

Re: 3.1 Crushing it in the Blood Dome (Interludes)

A fight for a benny.

Having spent the previous couple months surrounded by curious nomad teens and busy preparing for a battle that might have killed her, Tula is frankly bored in this debtor's prison. The foe they had been told was nigh unstoppable was now bathing in the same warm springs as the dwarf and her teammates. What’s more, there was talk of working with her.

Tula cringed at the thought. Every time Victoria Geist entered a room she was in, Tula quietly left. She didn’t trust the woman as far as she could throw her. But the thought of throwing Geist, preferably over the lip of an active volcano, occupied many of Tula’s daydreams.

Tula wasn’t interested in fighting to the death. She saw Hans contemplating the reward scales and could imagine the coins stacking up in his head. The team, however, hadn’t been tasked with padding their pockets. They’d been tasked with entertaining the audience. Tula knew her skill set and she knew that most tended to underestimate her due to her stature and lack of magical powers. She decided to use those to her advantage.

After a couple days of people watching around the mess hall and training grounds, Tula picked out a couple of likely targets. One of them was Mags, a 12 ft tall BioBorg. She had a history of violent piracy and insectal armored plates growing all over her body. She was looking for fights of any kind to meet her quota and get back to her life of crime.
Tula made her pitch in the baths one day. Fight to submission, unarmed or barely armed. To Mags’ credit, she didn’t simply swat Tula away, but laughed at the proposition.

”I. Would. Crush. You. Like. Zerx. Small. Hu. Man.” Mags scoffed in her slow speech.

The dwarf smiled back, aware of how she looked to the larger creature. She had learned last week that Zerx was a soft sweet fruit that started to ferment while still on the tree. By the time they were served in the dining hall they were like little water balloons of sweet wine. They were very squishy.

”You’ll find I have more grissle than a Zerx.” Tula quipped.

It didn’t take much convincing and they scheduled their time slot for after a water creature fight. Action Stan had told Tula that sometimes for entertainment events women would wrestle covered in oil, mud or something called Jello. Mud was available and Tula enjoyed the historic homage.

When the time came, the two disparate women faced off. The crowd roared, Tula could hear the jeers and see the fingers pointed in her direction. Mags had agreed to one primitive weapon each and clasped in her sword hand a stout club. Tula appeared unarmed with only a rope coiled across her torso like a bandolier. As the bioborg strutted around the far side of their chosen mudhole, Tula stretched out her neck and fiddled a bit with the rope. When the claxon rang to call the action to the fight, she had a few loops dangling from her hand. Mags took up a combative pose, her club held high, ready to swing for the fences.

Tula tucked her head, hunched her shoulders and charged. Mags took two steps forward, excitement more than strategy, fueling her movement. Her narrow, spider-like legs slid deep into the mud, but slid back out again with no trouble. She laughed as she swung her club, intent on landing the crushing blow she’d told Tula about. At the last moment Tula dropped into a roll and the club missed her skull by millimeters. Mags pivoted on one muddy leg to find her target again, but Tula was already scrambling out of reach.

The two danced like that for a while. Tula ducking and rolling, now completely covered in mud, and Mags swiping wildly while her slender legs poked deeper and deeper into the muck. Every time she missed, Mags smacked the club into the mud, splattering it everywhere.

”This.Is.Not.Wrest.Ling! Face.Me.Cow.Ard!” Mags roared as she finally threw her club at Tula’s running form.
The blow landed, knocking the dwarf face down on the edge of the muddy space. Tula groaned as she pulled herself to her feet and onto dry land. She leaned over, hands on her knees and panted. Mag’s eyes twinkled as she saw her opportunity. She started moving, barely sliding her feet high enough to clear the mud as she made her way toward her quarry. So intent was she on getting to the seemingly exhausted dwarf that she didn’t notice Tula pulling a stip of mud away from her leg and seemingly attached to her waist.

Suddenly Tula gripped the strip in both hands and snapped the muddy rope taught. She hauled on it with all of her weight, her muddy feet slipping on the dry ground. Water sprayed from the rope as the first length snapped up over the ingrown armor plating of Mag’s upper thigh. As the bioborg pulled that leg higher, the rope rose up out of the mud, tightening that loop around her thigh and the others around her other leg. Each step and grab for the rope entangled her more. Tula put on one more burst of energy and ran clockwise around the mud pit, pulling her rope over her head and tighter, until she could scramble up onto Mag’s back and hog tie the giant’s grasping hands down to her torso.

”Yield!” Tula stood on the taller woman like she was rappelling down a wall, feet braced on Mag’s pelvis while her hands pulled hard on the rope.

Tula waited as Mags continued to struggle. She was just about at the point when she thought she would need to reposition for a sleeper hold when Mags finally slumped in the ropes.

”I.Yield” the bioborg growled.

Not everyone has had a chance to finish their Interludes. That’s fine. Technically, as far as I am concerned, you have all Quarter to do them. When you finish them you get the rewards from them. If you don’t want to do them that’s perfectly fine too.

In the mean time I’m going to carry on with this story arc.
