Arachitix
  • Positive Racial Abilities (11)
Adaptable (2): Like humans Arachitix are naturally adaptable and have many roles. They may select a novice background edge of choice.
Insectile Awareness (4): Arachitix have amazing perception able to see ultraviolet and infrared spectrum, as well as smell and hear beyond human limits. They ignore illumination penalties and receive +2 to notice rolls.
Prehensile Tail (2): Arachitix have a supernatural prehensile tail, the thing is incredibly long and naturally used as a weapon. They have reach 2 with the tail, and it counts as a natural weapon.
Extra-Limbs (3): Arachitix have four limbs and a prehensile tail. They ignore 2 points of multiple action penalties.
    -
  • Negative Racial Abilities (-9)
Alien Nature (-1): Arachitix are strange and alien in nature. They are suspicious of what to them is the alien emotions of most mortal and allies suffer -1 to support rolls to aid them unless they are also Arachitix.
Biological Incompatibility (-1): Arachitix cannot have cybernetics of any type.
Bizarre Physiology (-2): Arachitix strange insectoid physiology is entirely bizarre, those unfamiliar are −4 to Healing and cybernetics checks—Juicer and Crazy augmentations don’t work for them, and compatible cybernetics and medical supplies cost double the listed price.
Cold Blooded (-1): Arachitix are cold blooded and resist cold based attacks at -4. For damage dealing attacks, this is treated as +4 damage.
D-Bee (Major) (-2): The initial Reactions to nearly man-sized insectoids are rarely if ever good. Human supremacists are violent unless a social skill check is successful.
Non-Standard Build (-2): Arachitix proportions make common equipment problematic. Subtract 2 from Trait rolls when using equipment not designed for them (including weapons and vehicles). They cannot wear common armor or clothing, it must be custom designed and fitted—tripling purchase and repair costs. Glitter Boy armor (and the Iconic Framework) is not an option, neither is most power armor. Equipment and food cost double the listed price. Starting Gear is assumed to be custom-built for the character.

Will either be a Combat Mage, Psi-Warrior or Vampire. Plan on building as far into Puppet as possible.
  • 2D6 EFFECT
2 Catastrophe: Something goes terribly wrong. The GM must decide what, but some ideas are a new and permanent Minor Hindrance, the inability to use powers for several days, or an explosion of some sort. The backlash should be thematic if possible. If the hero tampers with dark forces for his abilities, for example, he might become corrupted or summon something sinister into the world. If he’s a weird scientist the device might explode for 3d6 damage in a Medium Blast Template, or he might develop a Quirk, Phobia, or other “madness.”

3 Backfire: The power succeeds as with a raise but affects a different target with the worst possible results. A bolt hits a random friend, boost Trait increases an enemy’s skill or attribute, etc. If there’s no likely target, he’s Stunned instead. If the power has a Duration other than Instant, it lasts its full term and can only be negated by dispel (the caster can’t voluntarily end it herself).

4–5 Short Circuit: The power fails but the Power Points allocated to it are spent, along with an additional 1d6 Power Points.

6–8 Stunned: The caster is Stunned (see page 106). She subtracts 2 from arcane skill rolls for the rest of the encounter (the penalty remains –2 even if she gets this result again).

9–10 Overload: The character’s synapses crackle and overload with power. He takes 2d6 damage plus the cost of the power in Power Points, including any Power Modifiers the player declared.

11 Fatigue: The character suffers Fatigue.

12 Overcharge: The power draws ambient energy from the air, automatically succeeding against the target with a raise and costing the caster no Power Points!

This race is a lithe insectoid race from an alternate dimension. Trapped on rifts earth they are struggling to catch up to the earth customs.

i would like help rounding this guy out, going the the strange lack of empathy and apparent alien nature as key.

Some quick math puts you at +3 points before accounting for the tail.

First, I'd either drop Natural Coordination (Extra Limbs partially accounts for this, and not sure they need to start out just one Edge away from operating MAP-free) or add an appropriately alien Dependency for -2 points, to balance it out.

That puts you at +1 total. Treating the tail as a Bite (1 pt) seems appropriate. Normally Reach 2 would be 2 points, but since it only applies to the tail I'd reduce it by a point ... so Prehensile Tail ends up being 2 pts total, putting you at +3, just 1 point over.

I wouldn't give any more social/psychological Hindrances. Probably just add No Cybernetics (-1) or Restricted Path: Magic (-1) or a Weakness that fits with the alien physiology.

Thanks a lot for the feedback.

Generally I think the rules discourage GMs from letting you add restricted path for characters built on the spot. It because to much like free points.

But otherwise how about the update?
