SPC Vigilantes

Post by Technospawn »

OK here are the proposed setting rules for the new game.
Start Date is July 1, 2022.
8 open seats

GRITTY
Campaign Power level = Modified level I (24 SPP 8 PL)
Setting = Earth 2030. For some unknown reason a small number of people have started to develop super powers. The cause is unknown. Some are more powerful than others and the power never manifest the same way in two different people. Some of the new supers are ruthless criminals. No one is willing to bring them to justice and when they do nothing happens. Maybe it is because of fear or just the old adage about power and money. Either way your group has decided to solve the problem and taking matters into your own hands. No reason to involve the courts.

SETTING RULES:
  • Born a Hero (SW)
  • Comic Book Combat (SPC)
  • Conviction (SW)
  • Creative Combat (SW)
  • Death & Defeat (SPC)
  • Fanatics (SW)
  • Gritty Damage (SW)
  • Hard Choices (SW)
  • High Adventure (SW)
  • Larger than Life (SPC)
  • Never Surrender (SPC)
  • Throwdown (SPC)
The most important thing is this game is about having fun and playing concepts. All characters must have a defined concept and the powers and skills are limited to that concept. Characters that break the system will be vetoed.

Count me in for the Deadpool rip off.
  • 2D6 EFFECT
2 Catastrophe: Something goes terribly wrong. The GM must decide what, but some ideas are a new and permanent Minor Hindrance, the inability to use powers for several days, or an explosion of some sort. The backlash should be thematic if possible. If the hero tampers with dark forces for his abilities, for example, he might become corrupted or summon something sinister into the world. If he’s a weird scientist the device might explode for 3d6 damage in a Medium Blast Template, or he might develop a Quirk, Phobia, or other “madness.”

3 Backfire: The power succeeds as with a raise but affects a different target with the worst possible results. A bolt hits a random friend, boost Trait increases an enemy’s skill or attribute, etc. If there’s no likely target, he’s Stunned instead. If the power has a Duration other than Instant, it lasts its full term and can only be negated by dispel (the caster can’t voluntarily end it herself).

4–5 Short Circuit: The power fails but the Power Points allocated to it are spent, along with an additional 1d6 Power Points.

6–8 Stunned: The caster is Stunned (see page 106). She subtracts 2 from arcane skill rolls for the rest of the encounter (the penalty remains –2 even if she gets this result again).

9–10 Overload: The character’s synapses crackle and overload with power. He takes 2d6 damage plus the cost of the power in Power Points, including any Power Modifiers the player declared.

11 Fatigue: The character suffers Fatigue.

12 Overcharge: The power draws ambient energy from the air, automatically succeeding against the target with a raise and costing the caster no Power Points!

To be clear I am not making Batman. I am thinking of possibly doing Frank Castle’s brief stint as Captain America

Color me interested. A couple questions.
1. Starting as Novice? My initial assumption is yes.
2. Starting funds?

Current Theme: Undead Spirit of Vengeance. No not that one.

So not Blade, then you must mean Ghost Rider.

OK starting level is the Novice 3. You have been a group for awhile and kinda know what you are doing.
Funds is gritty too.
You have a base that is in the sewers, or abandoned warehouse, or back of a boxing gym type vibe. No rolls, group can decide the advantage and I will decide the complication.
Your personal items include a place to live on the cheaper side of town, a older used vehicle, an average smart phone, basic computer and basic clothes.
Actual money is $750
This can be changed with the rich or very rich edges.

Basically think Punisher or Casey Jones style.

Also the group will need to think of a group name because all groups of super heroes have a cool name.

I do not want to discourage you but do you have enough character slots to join the game.

New players get 1 slot. Then Patrons get 1 free slot. So anymore than 2 active characters have to be bought with EP. viewforum.php?f=263
The free slot does not affect the price so your first bought slot is 5 EP. Also careful do not post in the EP forums unless you want to spend the EP because it auto deducts the EP for every post you put there.

I am a patron and I will definitely find a way to get my next slot by July 1st.

P.S. I just earned 2 putting me at 3 so I just need to get 2 more and I am sure I can do that soon.

Got a couple ideas kicking around.

I think I'll develop a brawly sort of tekekinetic though.

Or maybe a teleporter?

I need to play with the rules a bit, see what looks more fun.

Maybe a 'why not both' situation lol...

Hmmmm….. so, I need to come up with 3EP before July….. possible.. lol

Are there any limitations on origin sources? Would it have been possible for the character’s parent(s) to have been part of some experimental drug trials and he (and maybe parents) developed abilities because of the drug?

(Watched the new Firestarter movie last night so something like that kind of origin is fresh on my mind… lol )

As this is a modern setting can we get the "More skill points" setting rule from SWADE?

If the power has a Duration other than Instant, it lasts its full term and can only be negated by dispel (the caster can’t voluntarily end it herself).
