  • Getting rid of meat in place of artificial systems dramatically enhances a cyborg’s overall resilience. This raises the character’s Vigor; each step past d12 adds a +1. (Strain 1; 100,000 credits)

  • This combination of radar, sonar, and motion detectors grants the cyborg 360 degree awareness of his surroundings. This grants a +2 to Notice checks and the Danger Sense Edge. (Strain 2; 33,000 credits)

Background

The faint beep of a heart rate monitor and a conversation drifts through the haze.

"Patient is one Aiden Merrick - friendly fire incident - miss-directed artillery barrage"

What's going on? I can't see... where am I?

"Extensive trauma to Thoracic Cavity; shell fragments embedded throughout, Amputated left leg. Recommendation is bio-system replacements to damaged organ, cybernetic replacement to leg. Anticipate a quick recovery and return to active duty."

Why can't I move? Can't feel my legs

"Recommendations noted; and duly rejected. We will not waste this opportunity. Private Merrick's entrance examinations showed an excellent candidate for full bionic conversion. Stable psyche profile and zero familial ties; the military will be his life. Prep the facilities and have Dr. Elliot prepare a counselling regime, we will ensure that he knows it was the Coalition forces who gave him this second chance at life"

The next several weeks were a blur of counselling sessions, acclimatisation tests, and systems training. A slow rage built in Aiden; fed by the lies told him daily, the truth of his situation having been leaked while he was supposed to have been unconscious awaiting surgery. The counsellors heard what they wanted to hear, and the technicians were impressed with how quickly Aiden adapted to his new bionic chassis. Green lit for active duty, Aiden was placed with a reconnaissance team embarking on a mission to scout the area near Tolkeen in anticipation of the offensive. Tasked with providing the unit's heavy assault capabilities and enhanced surveillance; Aiden knew this would be his best chance to escape.

By the third night the reconnaissance unit was well beyond the border of the Coalition territories and out of radio range with command. The unit commander had placed Aiden on guard duty, his security array being their best chance of detecting any incursions. The rest of the unit had turned in for the night, leaving him alone atop the APC. Sensing this was his best, and perhaps only chance to make his escape, he slowly climbed down off the carrier. A single Fusion block on the tracks of the Mark IX EPC would give him a considerable head start, without crippling the unit beyond repair. A quick tug of a bionic fist removed the communications array, ensuring that it would be quite some time before any aerial units came searching for a rogue cyborg. Aiden gathered his gear, and made his way out of sight of the camp before triggering the detonator on the block. The explosion giving sufficient distraction to cover the sound as he sprinted off into the night.

It was weeks later that Matthias found Aiden in the wilds near Tolkeen. His railgun ammunition depleted and armor rent, Aiden stood over the bodies of a group of Brodkil. Fearing another group of attackers he pulled his ion pistol from it's holster and took aim at the approaching group. Recognizing the cyborg from intercept Coalition transmissions, and believing them to be of like mind, Matthias ordered his men to stand down. His arms raised, he approached. "Stand down soldier, I have an offer you may want to hear."
