    Zed's first - and last - foray into biotech. This device is attached to her armor behind her right shoulder, and a number of cables run up to her right temple. It uses trans-cranial neural monitoring and stimulation to connect a large library of skill chip cyberware to her without an internal interface.... or at least, that's what she says. That it can affect others as well without the need to connect the cables to them speaks to some other means of data transference...
  • Null Cloak (aka Personal Cloaking Device with Sonic Dampener): [True] Invisibility (Absorption trapping)
    Zed's prototype design for a Shadow Cloak, but with active noise cancellation and none of that creepy darkness stuff.
  • Efficiency Maximizer (T-Axis Relativity Modulator): [Exalted] Quickness (variant Jazz trapping: +1 PP, +1 toughness, +1 Vigor die type on raise)
    Something that academics and soldiers both wish for is the ability to get more done in less time. Zed, being both, decided to do something about it. This tube-shaped device is mounted to the back of Zed's armor, and when activated projects a field of energy that distorts the flow of time itself by altering the relationship between the time axis and the three spatial axes of her local space-time region. Now, the basic laws of physics still apply, so it takes more energy to move within the field than it would in a normal time-scale space. That has the convenient bonus that objects moving into the field (like, say, laser-photons or a knife) do not hit as hard as they otherwise would. Of course, that would apply to her movements as well, so to compensate the device also imbues her with energy, which has the beneficial side effect of negating the advanced aging that would otherwise occur. Zed's not exactly sure how much energy is appropriate though, so she used the typical engineer's tactic of calculating an approximate minimum safe value and then tripled it... so she might actually age a little slower than normal while in the field, but that's a risk she's willing to take.
  • The Little Doctor (aka Molecular Detachment Device): [Greater] Smite (Corrosion trapping mechanics on basic smite, various for Greater smite as per power)
    Despite her innocuous nickname for this device, it's really one of her more terrifying creations, almost as bad as the true workings of the Brain Booster. The device is a small box which can quickly attach to any weapon. It creates a field around the weapon's striking surface, or that will wrap around any projectile fired from it (shes a little unclear why it works on a laser, as photons are smaller than should be able to carry the field, but she doesn't complain). This field has a simple but terrifying effect: it disrupts the molecular bonds of whatever the weapon (or projectile) hits. If untuned, it simply disrupts the target's molecular bonds, increasing the destructive capacity of the weapon by causing whatever is struck to just.... melt a bit. However, Zed can also tune the field to arrange the bonds in a a particular manner, enabling all sorts of transformations - exothermic reactions can cause fire, endothermic can freeze the target, and so on. She has pre-programmed a number of settings, but is also quite adept at coming up with what best serves her purposes on the fly.

Background
Zed Zdyb, or as her parents named her, Sasha, was born in Chi-Town. Both of her parents were extremely talented engineers, specializing in arms and armor. This earned them a rather fine living, all things considered. Zed inherited her parents intelligence and aptitudes, and started making herself toys out of scrap materials at 5. At 7, she started making things that worked in ways her parents couldn't understand, that seemed to defy the laws of physics.

Fearing (correctly) that the young Sasha had somehow learned to tap into arcane energies, her parents took Sasha and fled with the help of Erin Tarn. While initially moving to Lazlo, the Zydb family had a difficulty finding employment - there was little call for the design or manufacture of armaments. They left and moved to Tolkeen, a decision that would be ultimately disastrous, but for almost fifteen years was an absolute dream for Zed.

A rising star in the TW College of Engineering, Zed spent her days developing new an exciting ways to meld arcane and machine for the good of her people. When the war threatened, though, she decided that rather than just make weapons for others to fight she should do her part. Claiming her latest prototype arms and armor for her own use, she drilled alongside the Tolkeen forces and proved to be an apt sharpshooter, skills that would serve her well, often acting as a sniper or an anti-air machine gunner - ironic, considering that her parents had worked on advancing the SAMAS.

The war, as many know, did not go well. Largely (and willfully) ignorant of the more extreme measures taken by the Tolkeen, she places full blame on the coalition. Fighting to the bitter end to protect the last of the civilians, she left with one of the last refugee groups bound for Castle Refuge. When she arrived, she was surprised to find a number of familiar faces. She had at times fought alongside members of the Black Company in Tolkeen, and she knew she could trust them. The Tomorrow Legion talked a good game, but Black Company members had put their lives on the line for her people. That meant far more to her than vague ideals and a castle.... though admittedly, the castle is pretty cool.
