Automaton Race - econ and Observation Drone Model N3 (ROD-N3)

Post by Ndreare »

New Race
Recon and Observation Drone Model N3 (ROD-N3)
ORD’s are some of the most advanced robots manufactured in the three galaxies. They are designed with high level reconnaissance and adaptive mission profiles in mind. The AI in an ORD is so advanced they are considered Sapient and built with a combination of advanced sciences and Techno-Wizardry taken from the UWW these drones are rarely seen due to their obscene price.

Positive Racial Traits (11)
  • [2] Adaptive Intelligence: ORDs are designed with an extensive sets of problem solving designs and begins with Smarts d6, in addition their maximum intelligence is d12+1.
  • [5] Constructed Body: ORD’s are constructed, they do not breath, are immune to poison, immune to disease, and do not sleep.
  • [2] Flight System: The installed hover system in the ORD gives it a base Flight Pace of 6.
  • [2] Sensor Suite: ORDs are equipped with advanced sensors suites and add +2 to Notice rolls.
Negative Racial Traits (-10)
  • [-2] Alien Technology: Working on an ORD suffers a –2 penalty to Healing and cybernetics checks. Juicer and Crazy augmentations don’t work for this race. Compatible medical supplies/services and cybernetics cost double the listed price.
  • [-3] Limited Utility Arms: Suffers -2 to all strength rolls.
  • [-2] No Legs: The ORD has a pace of 3, running die of d4 and suffers -2 to athletic rolls related to movement when not flying.
  • [-2] Non-Standard Physiology: The ORD's unique shape means that it takes extensive alterations for it to be able to integrate armor, and such alterations raise the cost to 3 times the normal value. He suffers -2 to Trait rolls to interact with equipment designed for humans.
  • [-2] Outsider: Even sentient robots are not recognized as sentient by most nations, they do not have assumed rights and are often treated as nothing more than objects.
  • [-1] Small: ORD's are small by nature, averaging about 20 kilograms before attaching special features. Their Toughness is reduced by 1 and their size is considered -1.

  • 2D6 EFFECT
2 Catastrophe: Something goes terribly wrong. The GM must decide what, but some ideas are a new and permanent Minor Hindrance, the inability to use powers for several days, or an explosion of some sort. The backlash should be thematic if possible. If the hero tampers with dark forces for his abilities, for example, he might become corrupted or summon something sinister into the world. If he’s a weird scientist the device might explode for 3d6 damage in a Medium Blast Template, or he might develop a Quirk, Phobia, or other “madness.”

3 Backfire: The power succeeds as with a raise but affects a different target with the worst possible results. A bolt hits a random friend, boost Trait increases an enemy’s skill or attribute, etc. If there’s no likely target, he’s Stunned instead. If the power has a Duration other than Instant, it lasts its full term and can only be negated by dispel (the caster can’t voluntarily end it herself).

4–5 Short Circuit: The power fails but the Power Points allocated to it are spent, along with an additional 1d6 Power Points.

6–8 Stunned: The caster is Stunned (see page 106). She subtracts 2 from arcane skill rolls for the rest of the encounter (the penalty remains –2 even if she gets this result again).

9–10 Overload: The character’s synapses crackle and overload with power. He takes 2d6 damage plus the cost of the power in Power Points, including any Power Modifiers the player declared.

11 Fatigue: The character suffers Fatigue.

12 Overcharge: The power draws ambient energy from the air, automatically succeeding against the target with a raise and costing the caster no Power Points!

The numbers and abilities don't look bad, but what does this look like, and how will it interface with the world? I mean is it a sphere with arms, a sphere with retractor beams that act as arms? I mean aside from being pretty expensive, nothing in the list concerns me, but I'd personally want more from the description (which I grant, you seem to not be done, but you asked for feedback).

This is a remake of Rodney from Vampire Kingdoms. Unfortunately the art is now a broken link, so I need to find it again.

something like this. I preferred the slicker looking one from before. But this will do for now.
