Howdy!

As I mentioned on the discord, I'm considering running a pbp game of SWADE Supers using the SPC3. :) I wanted to put this thread out there to get a feel for what kind of a theme/game folks might be interested in.

Setting: Major metropolitan area (likely the West Coast)
I'm considering a couple of options. (because of work schedules, etc it helps to have pre-existing city info. :) ) Power Level: Power Level 3-4 with Four Color settings.

Adventure Styles: What would you like to see? :) I've got a couple of ideas from converting existing stuff that's out there, but I would definitely like to know what would interest folks the most.

Open to any other comments and suggestions too. :)

Thanks!
TC

Would the Bay City one include the background about all the heroes being killed and the players are all the "new kids on the block".

I really liked the Gate Keys plots and the idea of the heroes all being new after the big showdown in Detroit.

PS: You should check out @Technospawn's post he is also talking about a supers game. It could be cool to coordinate.

But I think a classic supers game would be the awesome.

I think that is the one. :)

Even if didn’t use the specific circumstances, I like the idea of the players being the NKOTB. That’s something I liked too about Emerald City for M&M. Like the Emerald City Knights series for M&M, I also find the idea of the players just discovering or only recently having come into their powers as fascinating.

That’s one reason I wanted to throw this thread out there. To see what folks might be interested in in terms of themes, etc. :)

I am a fan of 'origin stories' in a new Supers game. That doesn't have to be a literal origin story, as in 'how I got my powers.'

More like...origin of the team, maybe origin of our careers as superheroes. That kind of thing.

Sounds like that's where you're already going.

Though I will say one thing that's cool about PBP format is the opportunity to do solo stories for each PC, where you can actually have the 'how I got my powers' stuff too. Either as interludes, or as short GM/PC interactions.

I think the first bit will definitely lean into the "origin of the team" a bit and I like the idea of giving everyone a thread for interludes/journals/mini-encounters, etc.

One thing I liked about the Smallville RPG was that everyone helped build everyone's connections/history. My thought is that each hero will know at least one other hero, but whether they are friendly/frenemy-like would be for discussion. :)

Setting: Timeline

Ok, I think for sure I'll be going with Bay City as a setting. Right now, the timeline of events provided ends at 1/1/2000 with the end of the war that cost the lives of most heroes and villains.

What other Real or Fictional events should span across the 20 years? Should the entries related to CV remain?

Partial Timeline
Date - Event
Thursday, January 12, 1995 - Bay Quake. San Francisco Bay Area wiped out by 7.4 magnitude quake.
Saturday, January 18, 1997 - San Francisco Bay Area reincorporates as "Bay City".
Friday, October 22, 1999 - Proprietor War begins.
Saturday, January 1, 2000 - Proprietor War ends. The War costs the lives of the majority of Earth's heroes and villains who participated.

Friday, December 21, 2012 - The accepted end of the Mayan "Long Count" calendar.

Thursday, November 8, 2018 - Camp Fire in Northern California begins. Unusually dry weather and a problem with a PG&E power line near Poe Dam in Northern California helps spark a fire that develops into the Camp Fire, the worst wildfire in California History.
Friday, November 16, 2018 - Smoke from the Camp Fire causes closures of public schools in Bay City and portions of the Sacramento metro area. At this point, smoke from the Camp Fire is reportedly seen as far away as New York City.
Wednesday, November 21, 2018 - Sightings over the next few days of a native-american paranormal calling themselves Thunderbird coincide with the beginnings of heavy rainfall all across Northern California, helping increase the containment of the Camp Fire to over 90 percent.
Sunday, November 25, 2018 - Camp Fire declared 100 percent contained. Overall 154,000 acres of land were burned and over 50,000 people were evacuated.
Coronavirus-related events
Sunday, October 27, 2019 - Closing of the 2019 Military World Games in Wuhan City, China.
Thursday, October 31, 2019 - Large swaths of Wuhan City, China disappear after the appearance of a ghostly city in the sky over it.
Monday, December 30, 2019 - Regions of Wuhan City, China reappear. Ten percent of the city remains missing.
Tuesday, December 31, 2019 - World Health Organization (WHO) informed of cases of pneumonia from unknown causes in Wuhan City, China.

I am personally ok with the real-world pandemic being a feature of the game, but I think we should get buy-in from the players before it's made canon. I've been very lucky not to have suffered much personally, nor have I lost anyone close to me. Others might not be so lucky, and might not be eager to invite that into their entertaining past-time.

Just a thought.
