Bugged: Life in the Quarantine Zone (All Jokers)
Bugged: Life in the Quarantine Zone (All Jokers)
At the end of the day, you're all able to touch base with one another and talk over events, vent about problems, or brag about moments of brilliance.
Re: Bugged: Life in the Quarantine Zone (All Jokers)
Chok'lat grabs the tall, frothing glass in front of him. "Chok'lat feels bad for these people." He downs the stout, then lifts his finger for another, a new trick he learned while in the quarantine zone. This was different than his former tactic of grabbing the bartender by whatever limb or neck was within reach and screaming for more. "They can't go nowhere, don't know if they're about to get sick, and scared of what happens if they do." He nods at the bartender; again, a departure from the old Chok'lat's tendency to throw the bartender down the length of the bar once he was served.
"Chok'lat is making lots of friends here. They say Chok'lat is scary to look at, and scary to think about fighting, but when Chok'lat is nice...people like Chok'lat a lot. They tell Chok'lat what's happening now." He paces himself on this glass, taking only half in a gulp. "Chok'lat was doing rounds. Everyone knows how dangerous Chok'lat is, so nobody crosses Chok'lat. This one boy, though, likes Chok'lat. He heard about a group of mercs that were talkin' about a breakout. They figured if they're gonna die, might as well be free when they do it, right? This kid walked right up to Chok'lat in an alley. Chok'lat ain't had anyone do that ever. He tells Chok'lat all about it. Chok'lat sent him on his way with some chocolate covered peanuts. Went to where he said they was, and sure enough, they had some gear they hid from the sweeps. They woulda busted right through the gates. Chok'lat barged in like they meant to invite Chok'lat. But Chok'lat didn't start shooting. Just sat down and made jokes. They were all scared."
He finishes the drink, then orders one more, and points at a bowl of shelled peanuts.
"They didn't shoot Chok'lat. They maybe coulda killed Chok'lat right there. But they just gave up. Told Chok'lat that they didn't want to live in a cage. Chok'lat don't blame 'em." He shakes his head. "Chok'lat used to be in a cage. Cray Cray's cage. Everyone was scared of Cray Cray. Didn't have no bars on the cage, but nobody got out alive. That's probably what these people feel like."
The bartender lingered, then asked. "Well, what happened?"
Chok'lat shrugs. "Chok'lat took their weapons, said not to do that again or else Chok'lat would come back with Growler and Happy and smash their house in. Then told them they got people workin' on it, so don't be afraid." The bartender wonders for a moment, then moves down to take another order. "It's not as bad a cage if you're not afraid." The demon jams a few peanuts into his mouth, and washes them down with another gulp of stout. "How you guys do?"

Roy, was not allowed to leave quarantine, but he was able to communicate over the electronics. Most of @Chok'lat's story was to broken up over the portable tablet for Roy to follow. But he clearly understood and was willing to seize on the opportunity to complain about his own situation.
"Well, turns out my lazy brother who never wanted to do the hard work of really studying, has somehow been entrusted with being in charge of this thing." Shaking his head the image on the tablet buffers a little. "So now he is taking this as a personal opportunity to make my life miserable. The guy is rude, crude and has the bedside manor of a tick. I am trying, but having a real hard time cooperating with him."
"This morning he wanted to induce vomiting. So after I deal with the dry heaves for 20 minutes he shares that was not related to this investigation! I am half tempted to beat him to a pulp. But I think we learned from Cain that though tempting it may be, one can never truly escape the consequences of family."
"Glad to hear you missions are going better, especially glad to hear you managed to get some people turned in without harming anyone @Chok'lat. Must be a real task learning the new ways of doing things."
