Laura Reis
Rank: Novice Experience: 6 Advances Left:
Race: Human
Attributes: Agility d6, Smarts d10, Spirit d6, Strength d4, Vigor d4
Charisma: -; Pace: 6; Parry: 6; Toughness: 6 (2)
Essence: 10
Skills:
  • Fighting d6
  • Investigation d6
  • Knowledge (Dark Creatures) d4
  • Knowledge (Flame Creatures) d4
  • Knowledge (Magic) d8
  • Lockpicking d6
  • Notice d6
  • Sorcery d10
  • Stealth d6
  • Streetwise d6
  • Throwing d4
Hindrances:
  • Curious (M): Always intrigued with new things
  • Quirk (m): Constant fiddling with jewelry or hair
  • Loyal (m): Always willing to help her friends
Edges:
  • Education: 5 additional skill points on the Hero, but these points must be spent on the following: Healing, Investigation, or Knowledge skills +additional language
  • Epic Destiny(Mage):This confers the Wizard Edge on the sorcerer (renamed as the Mage Edge). In addition, he is no longer subject to the automatic wound effect for a “snake eyes” roll during casting, though he still suffers normal Backlash results.
  • Fast Learner(Balancing Act): They may raise one skill that is at or above its linked attribute, and also raise a single skill that is currently below its linked attribute
  • Sorcerer: Have “Aura Sense;” they are able to detect arcana at will, using their Spirit. A Knowledge (Magic) check is required to identify what type of magic is at work, and a raise will tell what power is in effect (if any). Sorcerers gain a +2 to identify powers of sorcery.
Powers: Bolt, Boost Trait, Deflection, Cantrips

Gear: Partial Scale (+2, -2 Coverage), Staff (Str+d4; Reach 1"; Parry +1), Dagger (Throwing; range 3/6/12; Str+d4), Backpack, Bandages and Poultices, Bedroll, Flint & Steel, Parchment & Inks; Scrolls of Various Information, Travel Clothing, Water skin, Lockpicks

Tome of The Sorcerer
This tome was once gifted to the Grand vazir Dantrenious in recognition of his service. However upon learning of his deception his possessions were surrendered to the throne and his life taken by Rangers in defence of the throne.
The tome is a large and very heavy looking one, however the enchantments on it mean it only weighs a little over a pound. When opened and used for casting any spe cast can be refined through reading from the tome allowing them to be used more efficiently.
All spells cast with the aid of the tome cost less essence on a raise. This effect can stack with the Mage edge (Wizard from SWD).

Looks good.

We will work out with Venatus Vinco when you can start.
  • 2D6 EFFECT
2 Catastrophe: Something goes terribly wrong. The GM must decide what, but some ideas are a new and permanent Minor Hindrance, the inability to use powers for several days, or an explosion of some sort. The backlash should be thematic if possible. If the hero tampers with dark forces for his abilities, for example, he might become corrupted or summon something sinister into the world. If he’s a weird scientist the device might explode for 3d6 damage in a Medium Blast Template, or he might develop a Quirk, Phobia, or other “madness.”

3 Backfire: The power succeeds as with a raise but affects a different target with the worst possible results. A bolt hits a random friend, boost Trait increases an enemy’s skill or attribute, etc. If there’s no likely target, he’s Stunned instead. If the power has a Duration other than Instant, it lasts its full term and can only be negated by dispel (the caster can’t voluntarily end it herself).

4–5 Short Circuit: The power fails but the Power Points allocated to it are spent, along with an additional 1d6 Power Points.

6–8 Stunned: The caster is Stunned (see page 106). She subtracts 2 from arcane skill rolls for the rest of the encounter (the penalty remains –2 even if she gets this result again).

9–10 Overload: The character’s synapses crackle and overload with power. He takes 2d6 damage plus the cost of the power in Power Points, including any Power Modifiers the player declared.

11 Fatigue: The character suffers Fatigue.

12 Overcharge: The power draws ambient energy from the air, automatically succeeding against the target with a raise and costing the caster no Power Points!

Background
I don't remember my parents. I grew up in the streets minding my own business. Being small made things easier. I could get into places most of the older or bigger kids couldn't go. I found food and clothes where I could, but my favorite place to sneak into was the libraries especially the ones mages would frequent. Their powers always excited me and I knew that one day if I studied enough I would be able to cast amazing things. With that kind of power I could explore the world with no one to stop me. I became more bold each day and found a sorcerer's repository where he kept his books. I would sneak in each night after he was gone and spend the whole night practicing and reading until I perfected each spell I learned. I would clean up before the morning so that he wouldn't know and sneak in the next night again right after he left. Just recently he came back in after forgetting something and caught me reading at his desk in the evening light. He cast a spell which held me in place. I couldn't do much but he just stood there smiling. He told me he began to wonder and took note that things never quite made it back where he put them. After a long chat he sent me to the Gray Wardens as a recruit. He said there I would learn and see the rest of the world. I look forward to seeing what becomes of this and the group they are going to put me with.

Looks good. Can you please include at least one relationship bond and name the person. That will give me something down the road to work with.
Perhaps whoever taught you (an street orphan) to read in the first place so she could read the magic books?

A female dwarf named Hilda. She ran a nearby magic shop. She would teach me words in exchange for running errands. She was also good to work for when food was hard to come by.
