Black Company Pay and Salvage.

Post by Hans Greuber »

Now that we are getting in some new recruits that are not just working to clear the Black Company's Name, we need to come up with some rules. These are my proposed ones.
  • The Black Company itself gets 50% of all pay and salvage value.
    • The Salvage Value is what the Black Market would pay for the item... normally a 30% value, if I remember right.
  • The remaining 50% value is split between the participating members of the Black Company in the following manner
    • Each Primary Combatant (PC) = 5 Shares.
      • Special Considerations can yield additional Shares.
    • Green Recruits = 1 Share
    • Trained Recruits = 2 Shares
    • Experienced Recruits 3 Shares
The company provides all basic needs (Accommodations, Food, etc.) and all expenses incurred while on Black Company Business, including if off duty in any BC Facilities.

Pay can be withdrawn as credits (if available at the time) or equipment (valued as at the above salvage rates), or kept within the Black Company Stores to be withdrawn at a later date. Further equipment may be issued as needed for a mission/task, but is to be returned unless paid for as above.

Thoughts?

I think it is rational and simple enough to work.

I would suggest a parachute clause. For example...
A Primary Combatant or Executive Member leaving the Black Company takes a credit value of 1 divided twice the number of Primary Combatant or Executive Members.
This means that while you may be 1/8th of the team if you leave you only take 1/16th of the cash value.
Not uncommon to have in limited partnerships so people do not take a crippling portion of the company.

Looks pretty good. Is the Primary Combatant option reserved for player characters only (hence the PC designation)? While I like the idea of that, I can't think of an in-character reason for Hans, Thrudh, Humble, and Vello to get a higher share on the same mission that Lt. Jimmyjames and Sgt. Laffy get 3 and 2 shares, respectively, except maybe rank. Then again, if the 8th slot fills up with new recruit Daniels, now we have a PC getting 1-2 shares, but as a PC, should be getting 5. Does that make sense? Honestly, this probably works better than my mind makes it work. I guess it's just the OOC identification of a PC getting more who might not have the rank to justify it.

This is due to the PC's in the BC being just so awesome!

This is a higher rank. There will be a few NPC's who are also the Primary Combatant level... such as Frost, etc. These shares are for those participating in the mission that brings in the pay and salvage. Support workers at the camp will get paid from the company's share.

So it is unanimous with all participants and two abstains.

Humble is officially rich now, excellent. Because he has a shopping list to be about!
Why settle for one hammer, when you can have two!
  • 2D6 EFFECT
2 Catastrophe: Something goes terribly wrong. The GM must decide what, but some ideas are a new and permanent Minor Hindrance, the inability to use powers for several days, or an explosion of some sort. The backlash should be thematic if possible. If the hero tampers with dark forces for his abilities, for example, he might become corrupted or summon something sinister into the world. If he’s a weird scientist the device might explode for 3d6 damage in a Medium Blast Template, or he might develop a Quirk, Phobia, or other “madness.”

3 Backfire: The power succeeds as with a raise but affects a different target with the worst possible results. A bolt hits a random friend, boost Trait increases an enemy’s skill or attribute, etc. If there’s no likely target, he’s Stunned instead. If the power has a Duration other than Instant, it lasts its full term and can only be negated by dispel (the caster can’t voluntarily end it herself).

4–5 Short Circuit: The power fails but the Power Points allocated to it are spent, along with an additional 1d6 Power Points.

6–8 Stunned: The caster is Stunned (see page 106). She subtracts 2 from arcane skill rolls for the rest of the encounter (the penalty remains –2 even if she gets this result again).

9–10 Overload: The character’s synapses crackle and overload with power. He takes 2d6 damage plus the cost of the power in Power Points, including any Power Modifiers the player declared.

11 Fatigue: The character suffers Fatigue.

12 Overcharge: The power draws ambient energy from the air, automatically succeeding against the target with a raise and costing the caster no Power Points!

From this system, can we get a count of our current loot? Or...oh, this is a system that is in place moving forward, but doesn't modify what we've already gotten?

That'd probably be a lot easier to deal with, hehe.

I was thinking this was the case from the battle with the Hammers. Because without a contract then dividing spoils would be even shares, and I do not think that actually profits us as much as an administered business.
