Welcome to Hammond

Post by Venatus Vinco »

Parting Ways
Qooat is quickly able to locate and disable the transponder on the Mark V, giving Crunch and the group of d-bee refugees a sporting chance at making it back to Castle Refugue in tact. A quick raid of the storage area finds the Mark V a little under equipped. Obviously this unit was under supplied - either because they were unimportant or thrown together in a hurry. Nonetheless, the group nets a good haul of CS weapons and equipment. So much, in fact, that it can’t all fit into the Q-Mobile and will have to go back with Crunch.

3 C-27 Plasma Cannons
4 C-12 Firebreather’s
12 C-12 Laser Rifles
12 C-18 Laser pistols
48 Fragmentation grenades
8 Neural Maces
2 sets CA-1 Heavy Deadboy Armor

OOC: Realistically you can only choose one or two things each.

The Embassy
Arriving in Hammond the group is hassled by some mercenary thugs looking for an entry fee, but manage to get into town unscathed. It doesn’t take long to meet up with Tyson Turk the head of security for the community outreach team.

He is a big lad with a cigar hanging out of his mouth and armed to the teeth.

“Welcome to the beautiful lakeshore hamlet of Hammond,” he says with a grin. “Good to have you here. The boss is a pacifist but the pirates in these parts sure aren’t. We can use the extra muscle. Especially with half my guys MIA in the ruins. C’mon we’ll get you a rack at the embassy.”

While he doesn’t say anything outright Turk leaves the impression that the embassy is not exactly what it sounds like. And it isn’t.

The “embassy” is an old warehouse near Hammond’s myriad of docks. From the outside the warehouse has seen better days, and the inside isn’t much better. However, Mayeena - a Quickflex operator - has managed to put in a few amenities including running water, kitchen facilities, rudimentary bunks, and a big “ops centre” featuring giant monitors displaying a variety of information concerning the Great lakes area.

Turk introduces the 1st SET to everyone on the http://savagerifts.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=109#p1016]Community Outreach Team.

After the chit-chat is done the team gets a few minutes with the Ambassador, Pin Gecheo, who welcomes them and http://savagerifts.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=109#p1015]gives a few pointers about getting around town

Excited for some Legion company, Turk and the others offer to show the 1st SET around town.

“Come on, we’ll show you the lay of the land and grab some bilge water at the Bucket.”

The Bilge Bucket
Following a tour of the docks the group heads to the “main drag”, a shanty sprawl of watering holes and flop houses that cater to the transient Great Lakes pirates and merchants who pass through Hammond. Rather than a weapons shop the town has a large flea market type arrangement as its main market place. Cargo, legitimate or otherwise, are peddled by merchants, ship’s crews and even adventurers. There’s only one rule in the market - the local warlord gets a cut of every deal. A number of his thugs patrol the pace to make sure the boss gets his due. The main drag only features two more permanent business, The Peg Leg & Eye Patch - a cybernetic enhancements clinic and The Bilge Bucket a run down tavern with hot food and strong drink. It seems to be a social hot spot.

Hmmm. Cory walks up to the pile of "liberated" weapons and grabs a neural mace. She (after making sure it's unpowered) swings it around a little bit like she knows what she's doing. She puts on a show of being satisfied. Then she stares everyone down just to make sure they know she knows what she's doing.

She fusses around about the outside of the Q-mobile as long as she possibly can. Being the smallest she knows she'll get jammed in the middle. That's been the story of her life. Maybe if she plays her cards right...

She tracks down Merlaggon (not hard to do). "Hi Merlaggon. Are you flying or riding in the car?" Naturally the right answer is "flying" and if he is Cory will ask for a ride. She will be very disappointed if he's going to ride in the Q-Mobile. She will also blame Fell.

---

Entering Hammond, Cory decides to minimize her "wizardyness". She takes off the robes. Her mage armor is fairly simple, it doesn't scream "I throw fireballs". She leaves on her loose tabard and a single cloak. She might pass for a tiny cyber-knight. Still she is less comfortable and more edgy. The pipe hangs from her belt, but she carries the neural mace like a boss.

Meeting Turk, Cory decides on the spot and with no factual basis that the guy knows what he's talking about. He's cool, but she's not sure about the cigar.

She is lukewarm to the rest of the Embassy crew. Not rude to them (like she still is to Fell) but not super friendly (like she is with Merlaggon).

Despite the ramshackle appearance of the Embassy, Cory kind of gets a little excited by the big computer. She can't use magic so she might as well play - er - practice on that big op center computer. She doesn't want to seem stupid in front of these new people so she uses all the training in focusing she received from the Sun and Moon and applies it to her computer skills. As far as what she actually does, she looks through the records the diplomats have for anything that might trigger or answer a question about the mission (and hopefully avoiding more side missions).

She will sit messing with the computer until dragged out by the others. She will act like she doesn't want to go, but she really does want to go. Not that anyone will be able to tell either way. But she does actually want to go, so she will find some cool way to join the crowd.

Fell sleeps for the first four hours of the trip. Afterwards he chats with Qoat while they continue on to Hammond. The Juicer keeps the topics limited to guns, booze, vehicles and how funny it was tricking the CS.

The Embassy
Arriving in Hammond the group is hassled by some mercenary thugs looking for an entry fee, but Fell leaves the details to Timothy.

Meeting up with Tyson Turk, the head of security for the community outreach team, the Juicer steps out of the Q-Mobile and sizes up the big lad with a cigar hanging out of his mouth, armed to the teeth.

Fell is still in the stolen CS armor but hasn't shaved and didn't bother with the Mohawk. Hair combed down he looks older. The lines around his eyes are etched deeper. (((OOC: in the last 24-48 he has burned 2 of 12 points of Burn)))

Fell stays quiet as Turk welcomes the 1st SET to Hammond. The Juicer shakes from inactivity but remains in one place. No small feat since he dialed up the juice when the team rolled into town.

Fell takes note of A, the boss is a pacifist. B, pirates. C, extra muscle needed. D, missing guys in the ruins. Ruins? Wanting some answers but holding off on asking them as of yet Fell follows behind the 1st as they all head to the warehouse.

Fell wanders in behind the 1st and is impressed at the inside of the warehouse. Apparently the chick version of Qoat knows her stuff too.

As the Outreach Team head to the docks Fell takes it all in. The Outreach Team members. The docks. The sprawl and its occupants.

Cory. She seems interested in Turk.

Shaking his head Fell glances at the flea market dealers. The Juicer thinks about getting the stolen CS armor painted.

The Bilge Bucket

Arriving at the BB, a run down tavern with hot food and strong drink, it seems to be a social hot spot.

Fell takes a seat at a large table with the others. Making sure to take the seat facing the rest of the patrons the Juicer eyes the other occupants of the BB. Checking to make sure all entries and exits are in his line of sight. Shifting the chair slightly he then unsnaps the button on his drop holster and listens to the Outreach Team chat up the 1st. Looking around he is glad Merlaggon, Gale, Cory, Sayeen, Qoat and Timothy all decided to come along to this dive. Severn super Legionnaires.

Speaking for the first time since their arrival the Juicer orders two meals for himself to eat from the passing waitress.

"Medium rare on both those steaks please."

Turning back to face the Outreach leader named Pin, the Fennodi Diplomat, Fell looks at the D-Bee and says, "So Turk. Tell me what you and your security boys couldn't handle for Mr. Pin."

Turning to face the Security Chief Fell... kinda grins, "You got missing team members? Lost in the Ruins? For how long? Confirmed dead? What's that about?"

Fell glances at Cory then turns back to face Pin. Fell says, "Sergeant Severin Fell, 1st S.E.T. How can we help? What's going on here in Hammond?"

Fell smirks and thinks, Counting all the assholes in the room - I'm definitely not alone.

Gale whistles at the haul of weapons. The guns look impressive but he has no practical use for them. Once other people make their choices he'll choose from what's left, sell them for some profit. Maybe he could use the grenades and stun batons, but practically speaking psionics were superior in almost every way. Maybe he would be able to trade his part of the haul for something useful from South America or Atlantis, but he would settle for a techno wizard device.

The Embassy and Bilge Bucket
Gale listens up to find out any details he can about the pirates or the ruins, but he also keeps his eyes open to see if any local merchants are selling items of interest. Sometimes pirates carry interesting swords, if there is a pirate problem, there are probably also pirate weapons about.

Unimpressed with the state of the 'Embassy', he'll likely find somewhere nearby to roost for the night. He always did prefer to be up higher. If he spots any items of potential interest he'll stop to haggle, but otherwise he'll continue on to the Bilge Bucket to pick up on local news and rumors.

Sir Sayeen takes a look at the assembled coalition gear. A job well done indeed. Whether they know it or not, many coalition soldiers owe their lives to the 1st.. His eyes stop roaming the trove of weapons as they spot the nural maces. He grins slightly and a small chuckles erupts unexpectedly.
"My pappy once hit me with one of these... As I remember usefull and effective." He pulls a mace to his side whirlling it to and fro testing the balance. Satisified his puts it in his pack. He sees Cory grab a mace well. He nods at her trying to give her confidence in her selection. " An apt choice..." In a soft voice full of rememberance he whispers to her, " Not a day goes by that I regret not having more time with my wife, I pray that you never feel the same." He glances back at Fell giving him a nod and also puts a c-18 pistol in his pack. His eyes light up when he sees the frag grenades. He rolls his shoulders back, and lossens an arm with great effort and show." It has been a spell since I had to throw anything, but you never know when grenades can come in handy... Why there was a time when my pappy and I were in a bit of a jam with some pecos banditos..." He scoops up 4 frag granades as well.
Before parting ways with Crunch, Sir Sayeen walks over to the hulking cyborg and grasps his on the shoulder. "We have been well met. A noble borg perhaps you are not, but you have the makings to become such a man.. Sir Sayeen sweeps his arm arround the blue skinned D-Bees, "These are your charges, and your chance to reclaim your honor. I wish you well and I hope our paths cross again both unexpectedly and on happy occation.". Sir sayeen reaches out extending his hand in both friendship and honor.

    ((Rolls Carried Over))
Taking the cue from Fell Sir Sayeen also tries his best to sleep before they arrive at Hammond. Ahh Hammond, a city of thugs and pirates...
    Venatus Vinco wrote:The Embassy

While he doesn’t say anything outright Turk leaves the impression that the embassy is not exactly what it sounds like. And it isn’t.
Sayeen Greets Turk warmly looking around with a slightly confused look on his face. I wonder why more people are not here to greet us? No throngs of fans...Must be they are waiting our arrival at this embassy. Sir Sayeen coughs slightly and reaches out a hand to shake Turks. " Well met we are master Turk. Why we do have strength..." Sir Sayeen nods to Timothy, Fell, and Merlaggon " The solution requiring it will probably end in failure or at least a high priced victory." He smiles, " On our way here we managed to free a large contingent of newly arrived D-bees and steal a CS APC with only a small amount of bloodshed. The high road in this occurence was filled with danger, would it have been easier to go in guns blazing, maybe..." Sir Sayeen slaps Fell on the back with the force of a gnat, " Our fearless leader, an Angel of Death put himself on the line, believed in a better tomorrow, and took that APC single handedly with the help of Master Wingstorm." Sir Sayeen catches his breath for a moment. He whispers to Turk with a fair amount of indignation, " Thugs we are not." Stepping back and eyeing the surroundings he continues, " Men lost in a ruin? Perhaps we should get to this embassy so we can be briefed and go get them back." Turk, a meathead with violence on his mind? Is this a place where only might makes right?

Puzzled Sir Sayeen stops at the exist of the embassy. He sees Cory typing away at the main computer. No doubt she is either finding out the status of my fan club, or seeing what information they have on the ruins. Sir Sayeen holds up a hand ," I realize it is exciting to have me here and you are eager to show me the sights of Hammond. But there has been little talk of your team lost in these ruins." He grimaces, " I am failing to understand why there is no sense of urgency to recover them."

Timothy will walk towards Crunch. "Take it easy, be careful out there." With those parting words Timothy will stow his gear in the Q-Mobile and settle in for the ride.

      The Embassy

Timothy walks up to the team and gives each one a quick assessment. This is barely a security detail. The embassy needs some work. Following the "tour" guide Timothy is not really impressed with the town in question. At least they have a cyber doc. It's better than nothing. Hopefully they know what the hell they are doing. TImothy just sits back and lets everyone else do the talking. There really isn't much he can contribute that hasn't already been said.

While in the BB Timothy is listening to each member contribute and when it comes to the Cyber Knight, Timothy will visibly face palm.We really need to go over opsec with the old bastard.

Sir Sayeen looks Timothy squarely in the eye. A slight twinkle gleams in them. He walks straight over to the cyborg him with grim determination. This will get him, get him good! He raises his arm and slaps Timothy on the side sort of trying to jarr him playfully in the ribs. Sayeen smiles wide and lets out a belly of joyful laughter. " Noble Cyborg indeed! Mission accomplished. I knew he had goodness in him, worth it even if I had to play a villain. Sir Sayeen wraps his arms around Timothy's massive frame. Welcome back to humanity Timothy. He walks back to the pile of weapons and tosses in what he had taken. He flips Fell a nod, " I say we let our newly minted moral compass decide what becomes of the weapons and APC." Sir Sayeen strolls over to the Qmobile and sleeps the rest of the way to Hammond like a baby.

        Parting Ways

Qoat does his final check of the APC, "Crunch, good luck out there, the CS shouldn't be able to track you, so drive chill and you should be fine." From the APC's weapon locker, he grabs three things, a Neural Mace, an C-18 Laser Pistol, and a C-12 Laser Rifle. You bad boys will do nicely, He attaches the neural mace to his utility belt, and stows the pistol in the holster tucked under the steering column of the Q-Mobile. The neural mace will come in handy if I come across any close encounters. This mace is much less controversial to the Battle Fury blade under the front seats.

Once everyone's ready, he hops in the driver's seat and starts the Q-mobile rolling, he looks over at Fell, somewhat haggard looking, and extremely smug looking. "Are you going to wear that armor all the way to Hammond? That's just wrong." Qoat says with a grin, "I think I've got some ugly green-grey paint in the back, if you want me to paint that thing."

The Embassy and The Bilge Bucket

When they arrive at Hammond and are hassled by the locals, he cracks the window, only slowing down so as to not run them over, forcing them to jog to keep up, and says, "You see that big bird up in the sky, that's no bird, it's a dragon, and roasted dickhead is his favorite food." As they back away, he laughs and presses the button to raise the window, revving the turbine of the Q-Mobile as it pulls away.

Qoat looks around the Embassy examining all the custom tech, appreciating the workmanship, Quick-Flex mechanics are a rare breed, to find another, and a pretty girl at that (if the picture's accurate), has him a bit giddy. But he otherwise just follows the team on their way down to the Bilge Bucket.

Parting Ways (I will be doing Hammond later)

Looking at all of the looted armor and weapons, Merlaggon can't help but try to think of a way to carry most of it with him. If he can't get Qoat or anyone else to help him, he will try to work out his own way to make his tent into a bag to carry as much as he can, either on his back or in his claws.

Knowledge (Jack of All Trades): [dice]2523:2[/dice]
        Ace: [dice]2523:4[/dice]
        Double Ace: [dice]2523:5[/dice]
        Wild: [dice]2523:3[/dice]

Whether successful with his bag idea or not, Merlaggon will be taking a set of CA-1 Heavy Dead Boy Armor to replace his current armor, a C-27 Plasma Cannon, and a C-14 Firebreather while in his Human form, and then transform back into his natural form.

Merlaggon will be flying to Hammond, and Cory is very welcome to catch a ride on his back.
        Now Is Later...

"Crunch, I hope we meet again. Timothy, even if I walked up to them to try to give them any of the stuff back, announcing my intentions, they would just start shooting at me to try to kill me. They kidnapped those blue DB's and were taking them prisoner just because they could. That strips them to any moral rights to the items, and since their laws state that I should be killed on sight, I hope you understand if I don't respect their laws too much."

        Embassy:
Once he lands inside the gate, Merlaggon will follow the Q-Mobile. Strangely, nobody seems to want to bother him for any entry fee. Merlaggon has no problems with people blocking his path on the way to the The Embassy. While Cory and the others are looking around at the Embassy, Merlaggon will ask Turk for an area that he can dig through the floor...preferably down to something non-flammable (unless the floor is itself non-flammable) so he can have a nice warm bed. Once he finds his new nest, he will look through the bag of weapons and armor that he brought. "Does anyone know of a good place to sell all of this in town here... and I could probably use help with the bargaining too..." Once he is satisfied he has a way to deal with his treasures, he transforms into his human form, and asks for some help painting his new armor...preferably to something with a flame motif. "Oh... where would I be able to draw on some of my pay?"

        Bilge Bucket
Once that is taken care of, Merlaggon is quite happy to follow everyone to the Bilge Bucket, and will do so in his human form, taking cues from everyone on how many weapons to take with him (I am guessing as many as you can comfortably carry). Once there, he will order their BIGGEST steak, blue rare, and a large glass... of whatever Turk is drinking (Note: Dragons are immune to normal poisons). Merlaggon will be quiet and watch people, trying to figure out how people usually interact with each other.

        [Rolls carried over]
Cory is actually moved by Timothy's plea. She takes a moment to reflect. While she firmly believes that stealing from someone is clearly wrong, salvaging the leftovers from a fight is just survival. She holds her new neural mace in her hand feeling the weight, trying to pass judgement on herself. She comes to terms with her action. She is doing the most good by using these weapons to further the Castle Refuge ideal. She sighs, this will be a hard road. Every step and every action must be carefully chosen to do the most good. It is a practical mindset, but one which offers no crutch of outside guidance.

        Bilge bucket
At the Bilge Bucket Cory puts some extra swagger in her walk, trying to compensate for not being able to see over the bar. So she hops up onto a stool and orders a draft stout if they have one. She studies the crowd from her seat, nursing the beer. She studies the fennodi, carefully following the discussion with Fell. She eventually orders a basket of fries. Merlaggon provides an excuse for a smile, and she says to him in American, "Like, you totally Worked up an appetite?"

OOC: Given Merlaggon’s rather creative efforts, the salvage can be increased by one set of armor and two rifles.

        Settling In
While the team makes introductions at the Ops Centre Cory takes a spin on the giant computer. She is quickly able to pull up all the active missions - mostly observations of various groups along with active negotiations with the local warlord. Scanning quickly she also finds that half the security team went missing in the ruins and is presumed dead. Spinning up an audio file of their last transmission is a little gruesome as the radio channel is filled with screams before going silent. The file indicates the embassy lacks the personnel to mount a larger rescue - hence the request for a “beefier” Special Exploration Team.

At the Bilge Bucket the crew settles in to eating, drinking, looking for intel and getting their fair share of hairy eyeballs. Turk gives a quick and dirty lowdown on what’s happening. Especially after Sir Sayeen chastises the outreach team for not showing more urgency.

“You think we want to be sitting here old timer?” Turk begins angrily, “The locals are pretty rough and tumble but nothing my boys can’t handle. Then we got a whiff of the Fed up to something in the ruins. We lost contact with the team a few days ago - presume dead - but the boss can’t send a follow-up without leaving the embassy undefended. I had to talk him out of going in himself. He’s got a reputation for surviving just about anything but he’s also our best shot at some sort of deal with the locals for Great Lakes access.” The big mercenary pauses long enough to take a swig of beer before continuing, “So that’s where you come in. Track back our team and find out what took them out, then pick up their original mission.” Motioning around the room Turk shrugs his shoulders, “Which I can’t exactly tell you about here.”

Turning back to his meal Turk takes a few bites. “So gear up while we’re in town. Rest up tonight and get ready to move out tomorrow.”

OOC: If you want to try and liquidate your salvage or trade it you can. Otherwise assume a next day briefing at the embassy.

        Briefing
Through his network of contacts Ambassador Pin caught wind of a Federation of Magic attack on the CS. Hoping to confirm the rumor and have the legion intervene before a costly skirmish broke out he sent half of the embassy’s security team to investigate. Unfortunately, something or someone took them out and contact was lost. To emphasize the point, the Ambassador plays an audio recording of their last transmission.

“We’ve entered an old power plant...the place is huge and in bad repair. Debris everywhere…” The transmission breaks into a chorus of gunfire, shrieks, and screams.

“We’ve triangulated their location...we just need someone willing to go and find out what happened. Then continue the mission to investigate what the Federation of Magic is up to.”

        PART ONE:
Once the Outreach Team and his crew seem to be winding down for the evening Fell stands up from the table and nods at Pin and Turk.

"Will see you in the morning."

Moving adjacent to Qoat the Juicer whispers in the Quick Flex ear, "You ought to ask her out tonight. Get her to show you the night life. She kept eyeing you I noticed."

Moving past Gale the Juicer pats him on his back and smiles. "Rest well."

Fell salutes Timothy as he passes the Borg.

Stopping by Sir Sayeen the Juicer hands the man a small pack with something inside it. "Keep this. It's yours. The CS officer gave it to me. I'm giving it to you."

(((OOC: inside pack is a Neural Mace)))

Moving over to where Merl is sitting by Cory the Juicer says, "My dear Merl. If you plan on selling your newly acquired toys I suggest you ask Timothy to accompany you. He is knowledgeable in the ways of weapons and what they are worth. You might want to do that tonight before it's too late. I'd like to borrow Ms. Cory from you if I may."

Fell looks at Cory as he asks.

"I have a sensitive question to ask you. Might I accompany you back to the Ops Center?"

If Cory agrees the Juicer will briefly talk to the bar tender and have a fresh round of drinks brought to the Outreach Team.

(((OOC: Will post more later - PART TWO the BRIEFING after Cory replies))).

Merlaggon gives Fell a stern look, then shrugs. Cory is a big girl. If she needs Merlaggon to put Fell in his place, she knows that she just has to call for him.

Total list of Equipment Merlaggon took from the APC: 2x CA-1 Heavy Deadboy Armor, 2x C-27 Plasma Cannon, and 2x C-14 Firebreathers (Keeping 1 of each)

Timothy... Timothy... I guess so... "Timothy, can you help me sell these (One suit of armor and one of each of the liberated weapons)? I am not the best with dealing with...people yet. I just want to get the credits. They are a lot easier to carry. I can also sell the other two guns, but I think they make my human form here look less likely to be attacked by me carrying them. One more question... can you help me get this armor (Heavy Deadboy) painted to look like flames?"

Cory thinks going with Merlaggon and Timothy would be more interesting than talking with Fell. She sighs. The juicer probably wants to ask her what she found on the computer away from the Embassy people. She was studying the conversation with the ambassador and while she didn't see anything suspicious Fell must have.

She doesn't make a move at first. Picking at her fries and take a coulpe sips of her beer, she finally looks at Fell and rolls her eyes. "Fine, whatever," she replies.

She eats the remaining fries in a hurry, but doesn't finish the beer. She's not foolish enough to take chances, and at only 100 pounds and change, it doesn't take much to lose her edge.

Sliding down off the stool Cory puts her hands on her hips and says, "Well? This was like your idea, so let's get it done."

Nodding Fell heads for the door. Heading outside the Juicer is quiet and holds the door open for Cory. Once out on the street, headed towards the Ops Center, the Juicer glances behind them back the way they came from several times.

Looking sideways at Cory the Juicer tries to not walk too fast.

"Look. I don't mean to creep you out. You are really good with computers right? I'm not. I learned to read and write but not with a computer. Pen. Paper."

Turning to walk backwards Fell says, "Before any of the Outreach Team finishes at the Bilge I was hoping you could access that computer again. Download all past and present missions and all details on what's been going on here. I'd like to get a Full Copy of everything hidden in the Q-Mobile for our return. Was hoping we could get it down before anyone returns tonight."

Turning about Fell walks forwards again. Still struggling to walk slower. "Its just a feeling. But. I'd like to get all the data you can copy for our eventual return to the Legion."

Fell stops. Turns and looks Cory in the eyes. Leaning closer to her he says, "Will you help me do that please? If I'm wrong and nothing odd has happened here so be it. I may just be ... I'm not used to working for reputable employers."

Fell looks uncomfortable. Turning away and walking towards to Ops center he says:

"Oh! My brother Lars showed up at Castle Refuge as we headed out last time. If he's there when we return I'll introduce you."

A moment later Fell asks, "So can you copy the data? Besides this let's us be alone. Err. I mean without Turk watching us. I mean."

The Juicer looks flustered and sighs.

"Of course our priority in the morning will be rescuing the Security team and investigating the Federation. But. Tonight..."

Fell trails off and is silent as he walks.

        Computers: Automatic Ace

Cory pretends not to pay attention as Fell talks. She pretty much already knew what he was going to say anyway. He's a weird guy, maybe it's the drugs, but it always sounds like he's having trouble saying what he's trying to say. Probably the drugs. She accidentally gives him a sympathetic look and an understanding little smile. I do actually feel kind of sorry for him. He's probably not even that old. she thinks walking along. But when he mentions his brother the charity evaporates and she totally rolls her eyes and says, "Like is he a dumb juicer too?"

She does follow it up quickly, even she realized that may have been a little over the line. Instead of apologizing, she's just nicer for a few minutes.

"So, yeah, there was like tons of stuff on that computer. It does totally make sense to back it up ourselves. I'll see what I can do. Did you get a shady feeling from Turk on the Fennodi? They both seemed okay, but, like you said, you know, you've been working for rough people, so you like, might pick up more than I would."

When the get to the base, Cory gets right to work on recovering the files, anything that seems relevant. If she can find a removable storage media, she'll commandeer it, otherwise she'll print out what she can. She will call Fell over if she's unclear about the meaning of anything. She is totally focused, her "likes" and "you knows" and other expressions lessen in frequency as she acts professionally.

Finishing up, she stands and looks at Fell. "Like what now? Catch up with the others? I'm sure Merlaggon has totally gotten in trouble already,"

Sir Sayeen grudgingly accompanies the group to the Bucket. It is strange we are not leaving now, what would have happened to me if the 1st had stopped for a hot meal.... At the Bucket he shakes the hands of stangers oblivious to the fact they are simply passes by or had just moved too close in a crowded space. " Ahh thanks for comming out, the pleasure is all mine." His pen flashes to and fro signing anything from a napkin to a shirt, and even flesh. He is chewing his lip preoccuplied. It just does not feel right to live it up, while people need rescueing. All these people here to meet me, at least the bar keep gave me a nice introduction... or was that Turk, maybe Timothy? I know I heard some one say, Now entering Sir Sayeen Gabbersleaf, the Eldest and Elder half-elf. He finally sits at the group's table dislodging himself from a pair of wild fans just in time for Turk's comment and layout of their mission.

He nods while drinking what he hopes is water. "I just hate being here while someone needs rescuing. I know what it feels like to be imprissioned waiting endlessly for a rescue. The darkness is stifling, it gets inside you. Given enough time all hope disappears.". He hits the table hard with a clenched fist. The rest of the meal he is not exactly silient but the noise of the Bucket makes his grumblings unintelligible. He seems lost in his own world, struggling with something awful.

Fell offering him a package snaps him back, " uhh, yes. A great gift indeed Fell. In the honor of my pappy I shall open it when need is great... I too must act my conscious.". He stands and slams both plams into the table trying to get Turks attention. " Kindly finsh chewing Turk, then tell me how far and in what direction these ruins are. I will be damned if I am going to take it easy...". He points at the food in Turk's hand, " Or eat possibly some of the most delicious looking food, while there are men counting on me to bring them back." Sir Sayeen gets in real close to Turk and in a soft yet surprisingly forceful voice says, " I'll take it easy when I am dead. I might be old, but I am going to get those men back... Like I said, how far, and in what direction?. I got to get them back, don't worry " Sir Sayeen Gabbersleaf, the eldest and Elder of half-elves is coming for you.". His breathing is rapid and his brow is drenched with sweat. His eyes are wide filled with tension.

If Turk responds or not he rushes outside not knowing exactly why he had to get out, but that a sense of dread was threatening to overcome him. He slumps against the side of Bucket, looking down at the package Fell gave him. Is the need great? Just breathe... Breathe... He clutches his chest trying to remain upright. The memories of his imprissionment by the Troll threaten to overwhelmn him. Too much rock, too dark, no help. He falls to one knee reaching out with one hand,"Pappy, Pappy of all the times to leave me..." Tears streem down his face as he gives out an angry cry against a foe unseen. Too weak he just sits there a tired broken heap.

          Hmm?

Distracted (bio comp induced calm, okay stoned relaxation) the Juicer clicks the juice back on a little. It was hard sitting quietly as Cory worked her computer magic.

Fell looks Cory in the eyes and actually smiles seductively with his eyes. Standing up from the chair he occupied he steps closer to her.

I really want to. I do. Damn it. Maybe if I switch SET teams? Right. Then I'd never see her. Shit. I probably look like I'm about to pounce on her. Back off. That's it. Several steps back. Lose the smile.

"Good job. Let's get out of here before anyone comes back. We can circle back out towards the Bilge and try to meet up with the others before returning here for the night.

If for just a second I thought she would be interested in me I would. The girl can't stand you fool. Tomorrow can't come fast enough. Hunting down the missing security team will distract me. I'm a killer pretending to be a savior with the Legion. No sense in chasing after a girl who hates you. Besides I'm still not sure how well I'm going to be received back at HQ after ... dude! Keep your eyes off her chest and look her in the eyes.

Fell points at the exit and blurts, "Cool. After you."

Groaning inwardly: Perv. Let it go. No more. This will never work. She hates you. You're dead from the Juice in a few years anyway. I might only be 21 but I look nearly as old as Sayeen. Heh. Almost. That's good. Relax. Change the subject with her. Something work related. Never let her know how you feel about her.

          "I like you Cory."

          What!!!!!

"I like your computer skills I mean. Cool. I'm sure Merl and Timothy need our help selling Merl's stuff. We should go."

Fell walks outside ahead of her.

Oh - way to go - dumbass.

Timothy looks at Mel "Sure, let's see what we can get." Timothy will lead the dragon towards the local weapon store. While walking, Timothy will educate Merl on negotiations. "Hey, we want to trade. We got some gear you might like." Timothy walks up to the counter, looks at mel. "Let me see your share." If Mel gives him the equipment, Timothy will place the weapons and the heavy body armor on the table. "Here are some good, well kept weapons. What will you give for them?"

Fell wrote: "I like you Cory."
So. Despite his protestations otherwise, even a fairly naive and uninterested person knows you can't take this statement back. Several things snap into place. Her face is outwardly calm, but her dark eyes are fixated on Fell's. Probably the first time she's held his gaze this long, and this intently. She is searching for something. Finally, with almost care, she says, "Look, Fell, you know, you're a nice guy, and totally amazing at trying to do the right thing. I don't know where you expected this to go. I totally didn't expect it at all, you know." She sighs, clearly biting back a scorching comment to tear Fell a hole in his heart the bio-comp couldn't fix. But deep down she is a nice person, just with attitude problems, and cutting this guy to shreds isn't in her.

She mistakenly puts her hand on his arm and says, "Okay, so like, let's just pretend that, you know, that didn't happen. I will cut you some slack, like, you know from here out, you know, not be a total bitch. Cause, yeah, like, I'm mean, you are an alright guy."

Having said that she turns and freaks out a little inside, thinking What the hell? I played it cool right? because it has been a long time since this sort of situation happened, all her friends from her town are dead. She's been alone in the wilderness and hasn't even thought about such childish (as labeled by her defense mechanisms) things as "relationships". She is flattered more than she'd ever want to admit. Even though she (probably) never would have independently considered anything with Fell, or any team member, her brain is running a million miles an hour and, truth be told there's a little heart flutter.

She rushes out without looking and runs right into Fell as he rushes out. It is very very awkward.

          Wild Die Notice [dice]1[/dice]

          -------

After an awkward conversation Fell walks with Cory back towards the Bilge. Deep in though he has been quite for a while. His heart hurts.

She didn't expect it at all? So it is: one sided? No way. Way? She hates you. Fine! Sigh. I wonder what Qoat, Sayeen and Gale are up to while Tim and Merl play arms dealer. Heh. What the hell? Sayeen?

Suddenly, Fell unsnaps the leather throng that holds his Great ChainSaw Sword across his back and in a blinding swirl of motion has it held in a combat ready motion. Blurring across the ground he moves rapidly to Sir Sayeen's side.

Turning in a circular motion he takes in the surroundings, looking for clues or enemies.

"What happened Sayeen? Did someone attack you?"

Standing before the Knight Fell motions for Cory to go to the Cyber Knight as Fell continues to hold the blade up defensively.

Qoat still doesn't have much to say while at the Bilge, his team are all still a bunch of individuals, despite what they've gone through so far. Fell's changed, he's taking the job of being 'in charge' seriously, but now he's goofy about the Mystic - well life is short, and even shorter for a juicer, like that guy in his underwear and sunglasses said, 'Sometimes you just got what the f***!' Cory, well still a kid, but she's looking after the dragon, so that's cool. The dragon, that much power in what is essentially a new born. Qoat shudders. He covers it up by saying, "Someone must have just walked on my grave. Pass the rolls." Gale, well scratch that, he seemed to take off after we freed the blue d-bees, following after Crunch. Timothy, that guy might be schizophrenic, he's a brutal bastard, I am not sure I want to ask him about his past and why he's now a 'borg, but he's joined the Legion, and he's worried about the Coalition having to walk home? Sayeen still can bring the pain when he's not lost in the past. The crazy coot, at least he's willing to be the group's conscience.

After the briefing, Qoat chimes in, "What kind of power plant is this? Is it nuclear, and if so, do you have any radiation detectors?" He follows up with, "Do you have pictures and names of those we've lost inside; any code phrases we should expect them to know? I'd hate to bring back a doppelganger," and he ends with, "If all else fails, can we blow it up?"

A certain part of Cory is relieved to "only" have a crazy old man with delusions of grandeur having some sort of emotional breakdown to deal with. His abrupt grasp of her hand does take her by surprise, having forgotten that despite his advanced age, Sir Sayeen is still a formidable cyberknight. Cory doesn't feel like they have been wasting their time here (despite any awkward moments). She feels like Sayeen is being too hard on himself. Maybe it's her job to save him, even for just a minute.

"I think I understand what you're, like, you know, saying. But I learned from Sun and Moon that quick and easy isn't always the quickest or the easiest. I, like, gave up on spell casting when I was younger, you know, like, because it was too hard. Sun pushed me to master it, or like, begin to master it. Like totally not easy, but the easiest path failed. Like, I guess, you know, what I'm trying to say is it's okay if we rest before rushing in. We'll be like totally better able to help someone if we're not struggling just to keep ourselves going. Right? You'll wait for the rest of us?"

She looks to Fell for approval after she's done.

            NIGHT TIME

Fell returns the Great ChainSword to his back and nods at Cory.

"Sir Sayeen please escort Cory to the Ops Center. Rest, in the morning we will rescue the Security Ops guys who are missing. We will carry the torch and investigate the ruins. I, we, need you to remain strong. Listen Sir Knight, there is more to this mission than you know. I have some data to transmit and then I will return to the Ops Center too. Go with Cory, let her assist you. Thank you both."

Smiling faintly at the two he removes his sunglasses, exposing his bloodshot eyes, and tosses the shades to Sayeen.

"Keep those Sir Sayeen. The future of the Legion and the 1st SET is so bright you'll need to wear shades. A major part of why the Legion is going to shine so bright is you two. The entire 1st is shiny!"

Fell turns his bloodshot eyes from the knight as his smile fades. Looking older the man says to Cory:

"Thank you for being kind and blunt."

Fell turns away from the two and jogs towards the center of Hammond. Picking up speed he runs with reckless abandon and inhuman speed.

Disappearing into the night Fell will return to the Ops Center later in the nite.

            BRIEFING

After listening to the briefing and Qoat's good questions Fell nods.

Wearing his Juicer Assassin plate armor he is not wearing his almost trademark sunglasses. Ice blue eyes look around the room at his teammates. The other noticeable thing about him is the Mohawk is gone. What was a black, streaked with grey, spiky Mohawk has been cut away and he has mostly grey short messy hair.

In a calm and serious voice the Juicer asks: "Any other questions team?"

            Re: Parting Ways
Timothy's speech perplexes Gale. Surely he realizes that if we had left the troops with the equipment they would have prevented us from rescuing the blue creatures in the first place. The options were either to kill them so they couldn't stop us, or take their stuff so they couldn't stop us. Taking their stuff would seem to be both both morally and financially more preferable for literally everyone involved. Beyond that without the APC there was no practical way to transport all the blue creatures somewhere safe...

            Settling In

As noted above Gale will keep his eyes open for any interesting melee weapons, particularly TW or psionically powered technology. Eventually he wants to find some Amaki TW Psi Blades, but those would be very uncommon unless some of the pirates hereabouts had been to South America. If he found them (swords or daggers) he'd do just about whatever it took to acquire them, even though he can't use them to their full potential until he learns how to form a psi blade. Also of potential interest would be any kind of ISP battery, or other kinds of TW melee weaponry.

Otherwise he would be inclined to trade his share of the salvage for credits, gems, or something else that more easily portable and could be traded later. As a mind melter he has little interest in acquiring (and even a little disdain for) weapons technology. After all, everyone knows that psionics are superior in every way.

She reminds me so much of my daughter.

Sir Sayeen bows toward Cory, "My Lady such kind wise words. I think I can be resolved to wait unril tomorrow." May my dreams this night not torment me with faceless victims.. He looks at Fell who is clearly getting a bit antsy.
Sir Sayeen shakes Fell's hand. With determination he says, "No harm will come to the lady if my life can prevent it. ". His voices softens, " Thank you for the gift, and for helping me twice now when I needed it the most. " I have outlasted all my family, and friends. Destined to walk alone.. Sir Sayeen smiles oddly. Now I have these two, and in time perhaps the others.

            The breifing

Sir Sayeen leans back in his chair listening to Fell. The only evidence of what happened is that recording. Its sounded so frantic and chaotic.. "Is it possible to analyze the recording for sounds that were not made by the inital team. We can hear shrieks, can we tell if they were made by the men or their attackers?"

Rick Hunter and Lisa Hayes...err Fell and Cory
Fell and Cory duck out of the Bilge Bucket to double back to the embassy and dig into their computers. Everything Turk told them seems to check out, security team sent to investigate a lead on a Federation of Magic attack. In addition, Cory is able to uncover an audio file of the security team’s last transmission (see previous post), as well as bios of the team members. Their official photos show them all in red shirts from the Tomorrow Legion’s military police branch.

As they head back the pair delve into an awkward conversation only to be saved by the appearance of SIr Sayeen, looking flustered. His agitation, thankfully, redirects the totally awkwardness of the situation.

A Cyborg and a Dragon Walk Into a Pawn Shop
Lots of looks follow Timothy and Merlaggon as they move through the shopping district. However, no one is dumb enough to harass them. The pair finally settle on a merchant who seems to have enough stock to be able to handle their transaction. Taking the direction approach Timothy shows the wares while Merlaggon scowls in the background.

The merchant looks duly impressed, and a little concerned at the merchandise. “Like new Coalition surplus is hard to come by. I don’t see any blood on it, so that’s a good sign.” He motions eastward, “The biggest CS outpost outside of Chi-Town is only a few miles that way in Old Chicago. Me stocking their gear is going to bring some heat.” Turning the C-27 Plasma Rifle over in his hands, a slight gleam lights up in his eyes. “Then again, Trader Jack didn’t get to be the biggest and the best without taking a few risks.”

Making a show of counting on his fingers he runs down his offer, “If you be wanting credits I can do 7,000 each for the plasma rifles, 6,000 a piece for the Firebreathers, and 20,000 for the armor - Coalition armor without laser holes in it is hard to come by you know.” Overall, Timothy knows the prices are about 20-25% of the values of the weapons about about 50% for the armor. Not bad, but not great either.

“Now if I can interest ya in a trade. I’ve got a beauty of an NG-E15 Pulse Plasma Ejector I can trade you for the two C-27s and the two C-14s. For the armor I don’t have much to offer unless your big friend there can use TW, in which case I’ll trade you straight up the Dead Boy Armor for a fine set of gently used Cyberknight Medium Armor.”

              Technical Stuff
Questions arising from the briefing cause Ambassador Pin to smile a little, although given his alien visage it’s hard to know for sure. He nods to Mayeena, his operations officer, “I believe Mayeena, Mister Qooat, and your resident hacker Miss Tetrascroll have the skills to analyze the radio recording. In fact, I believe Cory and Sergeant Fell have already gotten a head start on that project.”

By his tone it’s obvious the Pin is aware of the group creeping into the embassy’s files. Then again, if their Quick Flex operator was anything like Qooat it isn’t a surprise that she would know when someone touched her stuff. On the plus side the Ambassador doesn’t seem too concerned about it all.

In regard to Qooat’s inquiry about the power station the Ambassador turns things over to Mayeena who gives a more technical overview - speaking extremely quickly, only Qooat can really keep up, “The exact nature of the power station is not known. Anything of value, including power sources and even waste have no doubt be carted off by scavengers over the years. The security team did send back any reports of radioactivity or anything that will turn you green - or greener.”

OOC: I’ll let Qooat and Cory take the lead on dissecting the radio transmission for clues.

              The Hot New Guy
As the briefing continues a new guy enters the room and Ambassador Pin gives him a nod.

“In addition to the mission, please meet Mister Sinder. He was scheduled to replace Mister Wingstrom who was to be sent back to the Legion with political dispatches and other communiques, the burden of flight as it were. However, the loss of your man Crunch has changed that. So, in a fortuitous bureaucratic SNAFU here we are...back at full strength.”

Sir Sayeen recognizes Sinder from somewhere, but his old memory has a little trouble placing him.

With a nod, Merlaggon trades for the Cyberknight Medium Armor, but sells the 4 guns for the 26k credits. This leaves him the set of Heavy Deadboy Armor that he is currently wearing. As they walk out of the shop, "Now, Timothy, I need to find a large cargo net for future items of interest" Assuming he can get a strong cargo net or other purposefully built carryall that he can use for less than 5k, he will buy it.

Once back at the Ops Center, Merlaggon tries to follow all of the technical discussion, but not with much success, even with the translator going. He mostly just smiles and nods.

Merlaggon hands Cory a set of "gently used" Cyberknight Medium Armor, and says in Dragonese, Cory, I got you a new set of armor. If you prefer, I can even carry it for you most of the time, and you can use it when you feel the danger warrants it. If you don't want it...umm... I guess I can see if I can get it to fit me"

After eventually getting bored with all of the technical talk, Merlaggon goes back to his nest, "Tell me anything I need to know on the way there... I am not good at these technical things."

Sinder arrives and is escorted to the chamber his thoughts are going all over the place. Tall 6’2” Frame moves with grace. Dark red hair slightly messed up sits on top of his head because of the haste to get him here. A short beard and moustache cover his face along with mirrored Aviator sunglasses covers his eyes. Sinder thinks, “Why was I rushed here. They said a normal rotation, easy duty, no time to pack anything, just go, diplomatic meetings you know.”

Sinder takes a deep breath before heading into the room, “First major diplomatic meeting by myself., Whoa, hope my breath doesn’t stink. Dang the sub with onions was not a good idea for lunch and the hot sauce on top must really be powerful. Go for the breath mints if they have any, water, milk anything." Sinder puts his left hand over his mouth and coughs a bit of flames hoping that this will burn off some of the breath.

As he enters he looks at ambassador Pin and remembers, “Mom and Dad says, posture, stand straight and tall. Chest out be, polite no initial reaction. Stay Calm read them and listen.” He follows his parent’s advice.

He looks to Ambassador Pin and as he speaks he gives a slight nod eyes still on the Ambassador.
Sinder keeps his face straight, “Loss of a man? This is tough negotiating? Flaming buzzards this isn’t a diplomatic mission you idiot. This is a flaming mess of crap, they assigned me to a combat team. This is a real Himalayan Goat… as the ambassador said. Stay calm, look to the team. Hey who is the knight?”

A face from Sinder’s past stares at him from across the table, then like a lit match when it hit’s leaking gas can the Burster forgets all his Mother and Father taught him, Boom!, the emotions come out, “Uncle Sayeen! Is that you?” He quickly moves toward the elderly knight arms open glasses come off. “It’s me Little Hotfoot.”

When Merlaggon reveals that he has a new set of armor for Cory, she at first doesn't know what to say. What's wrong my mage armor? she thinks. She's had it for a long time and it's served her well. She thinks about the symbols she's painted on it. But the dragon is being generous. And she is seeing a lot more head on combat than she has in the past. Maybe it's a good idea after all. She can probably get some paints here. Representing her faith is very important to Cory.

"Merl! Thank you this is an amazing gift!" she says. She even goes up and gives the dragon a hug.

                Technical Stuff
Cory goes completely rigid and her eyes go wide when she hears the ambassador reference the "hacking" from the previous night. Oh Sun and Moon, did they hear the rest? she thinks. When her eyes can blink again she casts a furtive look towards Fell to see if he realizes the implications of what the ambassador just said. The new hairstyle and exposed eyes disconcert Cory so she keeps her glance quick, avoiding contact with those steely eyes. Thinking about the juicer-leader's new haircut, Cory runs her hand across her the stubble on her head absently. She realizes what she's doing and snaps her hand back down and slips her hands into her sleeves and starts silently praying on her rosary as she listens to the briefing.

When Merlaggon asks about the technical stuff, Cory does her best to explain. Her limited vocabulary in Dragonese is a help in this case, she has to keep it simple. "We could have said it simpler. We have a recording, we are searching for other sounds on the recording. They might tell us what the other team ran into."

She takes a hard look at the new guy. Then she relaxes and just stares sullenly into space. She focuses again on her rosary, trying to blank out any distractions.

Cory will try to talk Qoat into leading the analysis of the recording. She's a bit embarrassed and wonders what the other Quickflex knows. She will act as professional as possible while working with her though. Though, the actual eye-contact might be minimal.

The simple truth is that even though "nothing happened" the whole situation has kind of kicked open an emotional door she has had locked for years.

Sinder is a bit hurt, this shows on his face, but he realizes that it has been 7 or 8 years since they last met. He looks at Sir Sayeen and speaks carefully. “It must be the beard. My Father is Jerome Baron a Mage, Mother, Jessica she is a burster like me. My father tried to help with your Daughter, remember. He and mother would go to places with me as a child, sometimes with you and others. When you were around, you would tell me stories of your adventures."

Sadden of Sayeen’s lack of memory he is hoping that he remembers. “Is he OK, where is the knight I use to know.” It has got to be this beard, and I have grown over a foot and a half since he last saw me.” Sinder waits for some sign of recognition.

The mention of his daughter causes Sir Sayeen to grasp his chest reflexsivly. My Daughter.... His eyes water and a look of unflitered horror comes over his face. His breathing quickens and he reaches out for Sinder wild eyed. His voice is raspy full of concern, " My daughter Lial? You know where she is? Tell me did you find her? " He grabs Sinder by the arm and his voice rises slightly, "Tell me!" Sir Sayeen's outburst caught him by surprise and he grows quiet for a moment releasing Sinder and taking a step back. He mutters looking atbthe floor, "Jerome Baron..."

With command he says, " I do not recall the name Jerome, nor a Lady Burster by that name. I have met many people in my life, and as I near the end I have forgotten most." He gazes sadly at the 1st. I hope I will not forget you guys. He continues with a measured voice bitting back his sadness, " You have my apologies, but in time perhaps my memory of you will return. But you spoke of my daughter Lial, it was 35 years ago she disapeared durning a demon raid. I and a few others sought for her. The memory is like a shadow to me. You say your father was umong those that helpped me. Tell me then..." His voice quivers and breaks as he can barely hold back his question, "Did we save her?". His eyes are full of hope.

Fell talks to Pin and Ty after the briefing. Final plans and details. Shaking hands with the CoT members the Juicer makes his way past hugging dragons and young ladies with a audible groan.

Moving to Sir Sayeen's side Fell pats the man on his back with genuine friendship:

                  "You good Sayeen?"

Fell will shake hands with Sinder and introduce himself:

"Welcome to the team. I'm Sgt. Severin Fell. Hope you brought good armor. We see lots of combat. Talk with the others. Get to know them. Ask questions and follow their lead. Tim and Qoat are your Corporals. If you need to ask me a question feel free."

Fell makes his way back towards the CoT team and calls over his shoulder:

"Wheels up in 20! Qoat. Timothy. Let me know when the Mighty Mighty 1st is ready."

Glancing at Cory, Fell turns to face Pin and engages the D-Bee in conversation.

                  [Rolls carried over...]
When Fell fails to introduce her to the new guy, she rolls her eyes at him. Then she says coldly and dismissively to Sinder, "Cory," before moving on to the group's base.

While she's working with the two Quickflex, Cory will ask if Q-man can help her get the new suit of armor sized. She prattles on a bit about armor that heavy, what kind of enchantments it may or may not have, whether she should try keeping it on for travel (like Fell, oh, no not, him, you know, the other guys who wear armor) or just use it when going into battle, but what if their surprised? She got shot down once and pretty banged up in the process maybe this could help... Basically, she's never had armor besides her mage armor.

Plus she needs some yellow, orange, blue, and silver paints.

At some point she takes a break and finds Merlaggon.

"Hi Merl! If you're bored, you could do me a favor? I need some paint. I have to draw suns and moons on my armor so I can cast my magic. What do you think?"

                  Post by Gale Wingstorm »

Gale is quiet through the rest of the briefing, noting that his question is never actually answered. How long ago this happened is incredibly relevant and shouldn't even have to be asked, what kind of operation are they running?

The exchange between Sayeen and the new guy is almost painful to behold. Watching such a noble warrior age in such a graceless manner, entirely beyond his control, is tragic. He approaches the new guy and offers a talon "Gayle," his name sends out deep psionic echoes through everyone in the room, particularly those who are psionically skilled. It's almost like having your hand shook by someone who doesn't know their own strength combined with the penetrating pulse of a large base speaker. "Mind melter, if you couldn't tell. More latent power than I can easily contain, sometimes it leaks..." He humble brags. It evens seems to happen to lesser degrees whenever he refers to himself.

Gale pauses, "I think I can help you and Sayeen. He's among the noblest men I've met, even among cyber knights, but he hasn't aged well. If I were to leave for a fortnight he may very well forget my face. A guided group psionic meditation could help sort his memories, it would be best if you joined us." Assuming Sinder agrees to the process Gale brings Sayeen in to the conversation.

"Sayeen, this young man seems to know you better than you recall. Luckily we're all psionically skilled and I'm here to assist, there is a chance we could clear up this awkward situation. If you would join us in a guided psionic meditation we may be able to unlock the secrets your mind is hinding. We all forget things from time to time and I've found this technique to be helpful in the past."

OOC: I don't want to hijack your characters, but feel free to RP until the meditation. I'll do a bit of a time leap so we don't just get a couple of posts agreeing. If for some reason the characters don't agree to it we'll pretend it didn't happen, but I'm assuming they would agree.

                  Meditation
Gale brings the two of them to the quietest most neutral place he can find (if the bar has rooms for rent they may suffice, provided they are away from the noise of the main area) and sits down, motioning for the other two to sit across from him. "Words aren't necessary for this particular exercise, so much as a synchronization of our thoughts and intentions. Sayeen, your mind is often distracted, for a couple of moments I will need you to forget your worries and anxieties. Recall your training as a cyber knight and the meditations you have doubtlessly done hundreds of times since the earliest days of your squireship. Focus on this boy's face, picture him in your mind and internalize his image. Shut out everything else and hold the image. If you find it difficult then open your eyes to take another look whenever necessary, but then go back to the place where you only see him in your mind.

"Sinder, focus on your most vivid memories of the cyber knight in his prime, the experiences you've shared with him and the stories you've heard of him, everything that makes him of value to you. Don't shut out your emotions, allow them to flow naturally. Most bursters are naturally emotional as power over fire is strengthened by an unquenchable spirit and passion for life so this should almost come naturally to you. Don't light a fire, but tap in to those emotions and allow them to flow through the room alongside the memories.

"I will focus on channeling your memories and emotions toward Sayeen. Nothing is ever truly forgotten but some times it is more difficult to find where the memories are hidden. This exercise should fill in the gaps and allow the mind to do what it does naturally. If there are no questions we can begin immediately."

Gale gives the two of them a few moments to begin their respective parts of the meditation as he prepares to create a link between them. When he feels they are ready he pictures a bridge of memories between their minds, a gently swirling tornado connecting their consciousnesses, with memories and emotions flowing through on a gentle breeze.

                  [dice]0[/dice]
                  [dice]1[/dice]

Success! I think at this point it would be up to the other two to succeed on psionic rolls as well, but my success would lend them a bonus? That or it just works, depending on GM's thoughts for the process.

Sir Sayeen rubs his temples. He really is powerful... I've met a few mindmelters, but none of them could give me a headache just in conversation.

Sir Sayeen nods in agreement with Gale. His brow furrows in concentration for a moment, and then he relaxes."Master Wingstorm I will not refuse your aid on this matter. His voice slightly trembles. "When I sift through my memories it is as if a great fog holds sway. I know 35 years ago a demon horde killed my wife and took my daughter, but I can no longer see how my wife was despoiled, and I do not know if we ever found my daughter. I know there were some who helpped in this quest, but their faces are but blank canvas..." His voice trails off for a moment. Do I even want to know what happened? He smiles slightly and grimly continues. I cannot perice this shadow, and it flees shortly before the open conflict between the Coalition and Tolkeen. I had been sent to Tolkeen for some reason, but even those details escape me."

Sir Sayeen grasps Fell arm and returns the smile of friendship. " I am not fine Fell. A great gap in my memory hangs over me like an anvil. Should it drop unexpectedly it may put the entire team in jepordy.. He lowers his voice just speaking softly to Fell. Long have I surmised that the loosing my memory was the end result of a lifetime of being a cyber-knight. I have always thought that whatever pool of psychic power I had once held, the constant draining of it by the nanites inside my body has all but exaughsted it... Instead my memories were the price to be paid in order to keep going as a protector.. He pats Fell on the back, "I see a double edge blade that Master Wingstorm is offering, the truth demands I grasp it... Assuming we can afford the time it takes."

The tornado of melded shared experiences starts slowly. Images of happy conversation at the Baron's household, and Sir Sayeen bouncing a young little hotfoot on his knee regalling the child with a story of a rhinobuffalo. The the image snaps back to a scene of absolute terror, bodies strewn all about with their skin torn off, limbs tossed her and there. Sir Sayeen is seen crouching near one sobbing uncontrollably. The images flash and then zoom in on a Sir Sayeen smiling at a young mage. Sir Sayeen's voice can be heard solemn mixed with gratitude, "Well JB I think this is the last lead, I appriciate you going with me yet again. You are a true friend. The next image is of the two shaking their heads standing in front if a nexus point. Unexpectedly the scene shifts to Tolkeen pre war, Sir Sayeen and a few other Cyber knights are running at night through the streets of Tolkeen. A battle between the knights and demonic looking foes armed with TW guns is taking place. Something about the battle is not right, in the shadows a human is watching. This human clad in black with a bald head, reaches out to Sir Sayeen. The human cries out grabbing his head in imense pain as a psychic wave of energy urupts. At the same time a psi-blade goes through his chest. The cyber knight looks at the psychic crumpled on the ground, " Sir Sayeen, that was close..." The knight whose armor resembles the cyber knight armor Merlaggon gave to Cory looks at Sir Sayeen with horror on his face. The image pans out revealing sir Sayeen standing over a fallen demonic wielding two psi-blades each one thrusted into the chests of the remaining two cyber knights. The unknown knight yells at Sayeen to stop.
The image goes white and Sinder, Gale, and Sir Sayeen are standing beneath a cherry tree. Sir Sayeen looks at both. He breathes with a moment of ease. Thank you Master Wingstorm... this tree is where I laid my wife to rest. You are known to me-". He smiles warmly at Sinder, -" Little hot foot, not the kid or teen that I had told stories too. Your father is a great man and you have his bearings." A darkness creeps along the ground, the cherry tree withers and it's shape morphs into the bald human glad in black. A maniacal laughter eminates from the human and it smiles sadisticly... (( Continued in a second post below))

Still shaken the friend of the family still has no idea of the past. He backs away a bit and there is real concern look on his face. “How could this have happened? All the journeys and stories. Erased from his memories. I do not wish to open up old wounds about Lial when he is in this condition."
When fell comes over Sinder is greatful for the intervention.

Sinder speaks up, “Sargent Fell they sent me without any armor, we had just gotten back from a training mission and had turned in equipment.” “Did he say combat?!This is a real flaming pile of crap. I am supposed to be part of the diplomatic corp.” Sinder continues, His chest puffs out a bit, then he continues, “I hope this helps your planning. You tell me where you want the heat and I’ll turn them to ash. Kinda a one trick pony though.” “Great Job Sinder. Start out blabbing about yourself. Gee, if this Great what a franken newbie. Get a hold of yourself a shut your mouth.”
When Fell fails to introduce her to the new guy, she rolls her eyes at him. Then she says coldly and dismissively to Sinder, "Cory," before moving on to the group's base.
“Ah Sinder, Cory got it.” A puzzled look crosses his face when he looks down at her short stature. “What did I do? No time for chit chat stay calm.”
Shakes his clawed hand
Sinder shakes his clawed hand. “Well met Gayle, we have stuff to talk about. Where you are a fantastic generalist. My fault is, I am so specialized, fire mainly.” "Nice maybe one I can talk too."
When Gayle mention helping Sayeen, Sinder ‘s face lights upand he responds, I am willing to do anything to help Sir Sayeen, we just need a time and place.” “Great this is a big plus, my friend might get back his memories Back.”
"Sayeen, this young man seems to know you better than you recall. Luckily we're all psionically skilled and I'm here to assist, there is a chance we could clear up this awkward situation. If you would join us in a guided psionic meditation we may be able to unlock the secrets your mind is hinding. “Man the shiatzu is happing fast here. He said First? I’m with the First?” "Gayle we might have to wait on this."

Darkness in the Old Knights mind

A maniacal laughter, shrill and piercing echoes around Gale and Sinder. The bald human looks up at the two his face no longer obscured by shadow. It is sickly green, its haunting eyes are blazing yellow. Is that the human psychic from Tolkeen? An errie voice comes from the man, yet echoes all arround. " Interlopers abound. I will not have my meal so stripped from my grasp. The creature licks its lips making a terrible smacking sound! " I was just about to dine on the birth of his first child..." It looks at Gale and Sinder as if seeing them for the first time. It sniffs the air wide eyed in glee. " Oh yes! Oh so much tastier than this old man. So much psychic energy... Oh yes!" He means to eat them? Sir Sayeen steps in front of his two companions his arms wide sheilding them, but the creature waves a hand and Sir Sayeen is tossed by an invisible force to the side. The creature streaches out its arms and black tendrils come forth from his hands snaking their way through the air towards Gale and Sinder. The creature snarls at Sir Sayeen, " No more old man, you stripped me of my body and most of my mind. I have been forced to eek out my existence barely surviving off of your energy... But you bring me these two... I shall become whole!" Sickly tendrils march their way seeking out a new delectable meal.
Sir Sayeen clutches his chest and cries out in pain. Ack, my chest... My friends...Gale... Sinder... With the last of his strength he manages to gurgle, " Gale, break the link, Fly!" In the real world those noticing would see him slump and his heart barely beating.

"Sure, let's review the recording." Qoat says to Cory. He gives nothing away as far as what he knows about Cory's and Fell's 'relationship' he just pumps out a bunch of technobabble about audio discrimination, frequencies, and amplitudes. He has some computer skills (having programmed the skill calculator), but it, like researching is a bit boring for the Quick-Flex. He's already considered odd for want to tinker away on machines.

He actives his Telemechanics function on his Band of Mental Connection to enhance his ability to work with computers and electronics, following Cory's line of thought on what to enhance to determine if they can learn anything else.

Fell listens to the psychics plan.

I need everybody on the team to be 100% or close to it as possible so I guess I'll give them time to do this. Besides now I got to rustle up some body armor for the new guy.

"If you're not participating in the psychic stuff, you're prepping our gear and vehicles. Or playing hackers. Do something. I will go talk to the CoT and find you some armor Sinder. I can't promise it'll be pretty though."

Fell will work on getting Sinder some armor while the others do what they're doing and hope everyone is ready to go soon.

After securing Sinder some body armor (assuming he can) Fell will set a chair down by the physics and fiddle with his new Plasma Ejector and watch Sayeen.

I'm here old man. Fat lot of good it does you. I can't help you in the spirit world or where ever y'all are.

When Sayeen slumps Fell drops the NG-E4 and lifts the man up to walk him to a bunk. Laying the knight down Fell says:
                      "Medic?"

Gale had intended to be nothing but a catalyst, an outside observer enabling an old man to recover his mind and a young man to reconnect with his role model, a quiet hero.

The pronouns pulse louder than lightning through the direct mental connection. "Come to me, creature." Gale looks at the creature and reaches foreword just as the tendrils are about to ensnare him, they break on an invisible barrier. Sinder will likewise find himself defended from the attack. Whatever it is, it leaps from where it is standing on the hill towards Gale.

"Psychic entity, echo of a dark wizard's soul, or possessing spirit..." Gale breathes deeply, "I don't know what you are, where you came from, or how you got here, but I do know one thing," with every reference to himself the mental reality seems to shudder. Bolts of lightning surge around his body and the tree bends as if caught in a typhoon. The creature continues to fly through the air, appearing to gain speed as it approaches Gale as though drawn by a vacuum, "YOU PICKED THE WRONG FUCKING PLACE TO PICK A FIGHT WITH A MIND MELTER!"

Gale exhales. The plane of imaginary existence goes grey, and everything is quiet. The creature halts, suspended inches from Gale's face, and starts writhing and gasping. He turns to Sinder and speaks in whispers through the mental connection. Lesson one kid. In your own mind, you are the master. Never mind what your physical limitations were outside. In here you are only limited by your imagination and will. In here, you are a god and others only have what power you allow them. The creature continues to writhe. It appears this one got the better of Sayeen, found a weakness to exploit that allowed him to take root and drain our friend.

Gale motions and a light breeze flows from his hand toward the cyber knight, carrying the tension away from his body. Sayeen, wake up, he doesn't have any power over you. The fool thought he would attack me in my own mind. Sheer arrogance after years of parasitically feeding off of an emotionally vulnerable hero. Doubtlessly he took hold of you in a rare moment of weakness.

When Sayeen has a chance to recover Gale motions to the figure, still writhing while suspended helplessly in mid air. Your mind should be clear now, old warrior. This is the parasite who stole years from you, you have more of a right to him than anyone else. Pass your judgement, only speak the words and and whatever justice you deem fitting will be done.

"Watch a Watch when wisps of whoa whip awound you, gotta be kidding. I'm not taking my off this thing." Sinder just says something stupid, "I don't have a watch, was on a Two-Day pass. Do you have one? Why do you want to time it? is it for accuracy how close to five minutes, or how quick you can get rid of this thing? If it is the later I vote get rid of it sooner rather than later. The creature continues to slowly spin, suspended in the air. Slow down, kid. You weren't listening. Your powers and abilities aren't relevant here. As strong as you might think you are, your pyrotechnics are really just an expression of your physical limitations imposed on you by the universe itself. In here you aren't limited to flame, there isn't even oxygen to burn. Gale pauses to let that sink in.

In this place the only thing limiting you is you.

At Gales urging Sir Sayeen trembles trying to stand. First to one knee, then carefully onto two legs. His armor is gone, and the two of you see him clad in a simple white tunic and white loose fitting pants. He joins both of you staring at the creature now trapped by Gale. Sayeen's face is younger than you recall, maybe by 35 years. He smiles at both lf you. . My Friends, thank you for not abandoning me. Lets us end this... Together! Sir Sayeen turns to the creature. Sir Sayeen's resounates all arround with great fury. . I am Sir Sayeen Gabbersleaf, the eldest and elder of half-elves. Your dominion ends now foul creature. Sir Sayeen nods to Gale and Sinder, a slender white hot psi-blade forms in Sir Sayeen's right hand. He plunges it into the creature's heart. Be Gone!

As the meditative experience ends one last memory can be seen. A cyber knight is seen reaching down offering Sir Sayeen a hand. I think it is time for us to go Sir Sayeen. Sir Sayeen seems confused for a moment. He takes the hand rising, "Of course Sir Jeremiah, but what am I doing here... Tolkeen of all places.". The knight smiles sadly and puts his hand on his armor where a JK scripted insignia lies. He shakes his head. "I am sorry Sayeen that is a secret I now must keep."

                      Real World
Sir Sayeen's eye open and he smiles up at Fell who was carrying him. "I remember...I know Sinder... I remember everything... We never found my daughter Lial." Sir Sayeen gets up and hugs Fell happily. "Lets not leave the security team to that same fate.". He walks back to the others. He frowns slightly when he sees the custom cyber knight armor.I thought that armor looked familiar. Sir Jeremiah what trouble did you get into... Reflexsivly he whispers, " Not idly does a knight give up his armor...". He looks at Cory and Merlaggon pointing at the armor. He grimly says, " In short order we will have to deal with this.". He chases down Gale and Sinder before everyone is pushed out the door by Merlaggon. He grasps their forearm in friendship. "I am in both your debts, should you have need of me no matter the risk know that I will come to your aid.". He walks out at the dragon's urging. Absently he reaches up patting Merlaggon,"I am ready now Merlaggon, never forget the choices you make now ripple accross the pond of your life. Liive strong today so that your tomorrow is all the better!"

As the creature shrivels in to the ether Gale nods in approval before slowly breaking the meditative connection. The experience was more intense than anybody expected, though well worth the effort.

When he releases his breath and opens his eyes he discreetly checks his field computer.

Hmm... 5 minutes and 37 seconds...

He stands up and stretches. "Four minutes and 32 seconds." He says loudly to the room. "I knew I overestimated how long I would need!"

Looking around the room he notices that it looks like it was struck by a wind storm and smiles inwardly. "If I'm this strong now, just imagine what I'll be capable of when I can control and harness my full abilities!"

A moment or two later the cyber knight rouses from his trance, looking younger even in this world, though not the 35 years younger he had looked inside his mind.
Sayeen wrote:"I am in both your debts, should you have need of me no matter the risk know that I will come to your aid."
Gale grasps his hand firmly and nods. "Think nothing of it Sayeen. I'm sure you would have done the same for anyone. Besides, having a man like you at full strength is hardy selfless, you'll be an asset to this team and to every individual we encounter."

He follows everyone out, ready to leave.

                        Rolls carried over...

Analyzing the message is challenging to be sure, but Cory tries to make some time to take a painting break with Merlaggon.

When the dragon returns with the paint she finds a clear spot for them to set up. She raids the base's kitchen for cups or jars to hold water - assuming Merl got some sort of acrylic. She is very curious, actually, just to see what Merlaggon wound up buying.

Once she has everything she will paint sun and moon emblems on the chest, pauldrons and shin guards. She'll also help Merl as much as he needs or want. She is pretty excited to help him and will try and make it as fun as possible.

While not purposely sloppy, her work is somewhat crude, almost primitive. She will do her best to do more high quality renderings on Meryl's armor. She's as much a fire fan, so she takes this seriously. She's also a big believer in the power of symbols.

Sir Sayeen watches Cory painting over the cyber knight armor. He breathes deep and walks over bending low apparently inspecting the artwork. He reaches out almost touching a portion on the upper shoulder plating. His hand hovers over a scripted interlocking J, K, encircled by a gilded book. Sir Sayeen rubs his beard. He whispers just to her, " I thought this armor looked familiar, now their is no denying it...After our foray into the ruins it may be wise for us to make some time, perhaps talk to Merlaggon about where he procured such a find..." Some paint had been splattered over the insignia, Sir Sayeen wipes it clean with a cloth. He smiles sadly and continues in a hushed voice, " If you would not mind leaving that area unblemished... There would be no reason for a knight to discard his armor so, yet I feel you would do not only him, but all us cyber-knights proud by wearing it." He hands her the cloth and steps away from the arts and crafts careful to not knock over any paint cans.

Cory is surprised by the old knights reaction. "Do you, like, know something? Is there, you know, like something special about this armor?"

She does respect Sayeen's wishes and makes sue the emblems stay clear.

If Sayeen is willing to tell her about the armor, she will listen carefully and give him full attention.

When the story is done (and any related conversation) she will shake off any seriousness and check in with Merl.

"I wanna see what this armor can do, like let's take a spin around outside of town and like try it out. Did it make me too heavy for you to like carry me still?"

Sir Sayeen has a small grin on his face, still bending examining the armor he continues his voice just above a whisper
" Something special... The first question all knights ask when they receive their armor... Something special? Would it make the armor that more special if I told you it withstood a demonix clenched fist, before we knew what they were... Is it special that the man who wore it before you was Jeremiah Keeper? I am not sure if that would make it special to you... All that makes it special to me though." He brushes the insignia and shakes his head.
"It of course has qualities that make it coveted. You can impart some of your inner strength into it, and these qualities should come alive assuming it is not damaged. You will find it lighter than most and yet stonger than the hardest steel. Most of these armors have either the ability to heal grevious wounds or refresh the spirit when it is downtrodden." Sir Sayeen grips Cory's hand suddenly and with great purpose he tells her, " What makes it special is the hero inside it."

                            Rolls carried yet again....

Cory is shocked. The odds of this armor from Sayeen's past are crazy. She does feel like the armor is special, and says so, "Well, like, uh, yeah, I will totally do everything I can to make this, like, special." She studies the symbols more closely asking Sayeen to explain them in detail.

Sensing Merl is fidgety, she lets the history lesson go.

"Alright Merlaggon! Let's go! I think there's an action packed story behind this armor. Probably cool," she says on Dragonese.

When the get out of town she focuses on the armor and wraps her mind around its power. She used her Moon based power to charge the armor with energy, silver blue glowing from lines chased in the surface.

Smiling she blips out and appears behind Merl. She takes off the helmet and gives him a big smile, "Hi!"

"Now, Timothy, I need to find a large cargo net for future items of interest"

Timothy will look at the shopkeeper. "So what do you say? Have a large net?"

On the way out, Timothy will walk with the dragon back to base. "When it comes to basic stuff, be sure to stock up at the Castle. Rations, and everyday supplies are provided the Legion. Don't be afraid to ask for special gear as well. With all of you finger wigglers around, I'm sure something is available."

                            Technical Stuff
Timothy sits quietly listening to the briefing. hacking our own people? Fell is stepping into it now. "Do we have a floor plan of the building or map of the surrounding area? I don't know about anyone else, but I don't want to be another missing person."

The team is introduced to the Burster. Great a pyro on a whole new level. Timothy just sits there watching and listening.
"Wheels up in 20! Qoat. Timothy. Let me know when the Mighty Mighty 1st is ready."
Timothy sees the psionics gather together. Mind Melter, Cyber Knight, and Burster all in one room. Who seem to know each other. This can end badly. The MIghty Mighty 1st? What the hell? "Roger"

The three psionic members are preparing for the mediation when Merl speaks.
"Fire... I can do fire too. That is my trick."
Timothy will give a slight chuckle, look at Merl "As well as flying, stomping, bad breath and giving joy rides to people smaller than Five foot Six."

As the Burster, MInd Melter, and Cyber Knight sit there and stare at each other. Timothy makes sure all his gear is in working order. "And the paint drying contest is off to a slow start. The Mind Melter takes an early lead with his raw strength, The Burster is leaving nothing but rubble in his path, the Cyber Knight is in another contest all together."
"Gale!!! What are you doing THIS time? It's time to go and have some excitement! Come on!!!"
Timothy stands his ground against the air from the dragon. "Settle down stompy. We are not going anywhere until they are done"

The Cyber Knight comes around and appears to be clear for the first time since Timothy has known him. Well, this might be a good thing."Maybe now you'll stop calling us your fan club?"

Cory and Sayeen start talking about the suit of armor and its history. Seeing how 5 minutes is already used up, Timothy starts to get everyone motivated. "Okay boys and girls. 6 minutes. Gale, you might want to check your time. Stow your mouths and then your gear. Wheels up in 14 minutes. Your ass better be in the ATV." Timothy will gather the gear, and stow on the ATV. "Sinder! Don't burn the seats. Qoat likes how they look right now."

Sir Sayeen tussles Sinder's red hair playfully. With gusto and a small smile he says, " It is good to be back...Not so little Hotfoot!" 35 years lost and regained... He takes a minute to look Sinder over. Well JB he is all grown up now. He gestures over to Gale. " Stick with us Sinder, and you might be more famous than me someday, and if you apply your self maybe even Master Wingstorm,". As Sir Sayeen finishes talking he pauses and looks up as if expecting a trumpet call. Satisfied he winks at Sinder and tussles his hair again.

While Timothy is gearing up for the mission, he notices a change in Sayeen. "Does this mean your now over your fan club and we can finally get Fell and Cory to see reason?"

Sir Sayeen nods sadly and walks over to Timothy. " Yes the fan club was shutdown... Sir Sayeen's eyes drift over to where Cory is. She was spending an awful lot of time on their computer, did she send a message to my fans?. His eyes snap back to looking at Timothy. He reaches up patting the Cyborgs shoulder. " Worry not, I suspect you will not have to wait long for it to restart." There is a twinkle of mischief in his eye, " I suspect something related will be waiting for you..." Sir Sayeen absently twirls his finger on Timothy's shoulder pretending to sign it. Sayeen smiles proudly at the borg, " I am glad you are so interested, and doubly glad to have you as our newly minted moral compass!" Sir Sayeen laughs and taps the silver chrome of the borg PING! " The clarion call has been sounded, it is time for heroes to arise and fell deeds to be done!"
