Character Creation
Creating a character for Savage Rifts requires the Adventure Edition of Savage Worlds as well as the Tomorrow Legion Player’s Guide. Both products are available in physical copy and as digital downloads through Pinnacle Entertainment Group’s website.
Step One: Concept
Once you have an idea, create an account and have a look at the Character Creation forum. All accounts must be registered with your character's name. Please no "l33t-speak" or other nonsensical account names. Your account name should be the same as that which your character will use in conversation with the other players on-site. After you register your account, you should receive an e-mail by which you will activate the account.
If this is your first account for the site, don't worry if your idea is still unclear or you think you might change the concept. Those details and even your account name can all be revised as needed as your plans firm up. To get started, just choose a username that abides by the rules above and hop into the Character Creation forums, where existing players and GMs will be happy to help. If you end up needing to change your user name to match your character you can do that in your User Control Panel.
Also, if you have any questions you can join us on Discord, there's usually someone there who is happy to help.
Controversial Concepts (Young, Bloodthirsty, etc): Regarding these Hindrances (as with everything else about your character), check with your (prospective) GM about the concept and make sure that group gets to comment as well. Not all applications of the Young or Bloodthirsty Hindrances are equal, and neither are all reactions to them. Better to know at the start if there is going to be an issue. We have had it be an issue in the past, and communication is the best prevention to any unpleasantness. These are not the only such concepts or hindrances, but they are indicative.
Conversions. It is possible to create characters from your favourite Savage settings or other Rifts material not covered in the core books. However, these will be considered on a case by case basis.
Step Two: Creation
Creation follows the standard rules found in the Tomorrow Legion Player’s guide. Copy and paste the “Character Sheet Template” into a new post in the “Recruitment” forum. Build your character, choose an iconic framework, and have fun. All dice rolls for background tables and other creation events should be done with the onsite dice roller and recorded on your Advancement Tracker. Details on how the dice roller works located here. Hold on to this checklist to track your advances as your character gains experience points. Background and equipment templates should be done as a reply to your original post. Thus a finished character has five parts: Your dice rolls, Character Sheet, Gear, Advancements, and Background (example below). Have a look at many of the characters on site for examples. Build the Character in the Recruitment area and a GM will later move your finished Character to their game.
You are welcome to use the below posts to build your Character and/or Savaged.us and import the character from there.
We recommend: Savaged.us
Bonus! Because advancement is slower in PBP all initial characters start with an extra Advance. Example a Novice Character starts out having Novice 1 at beginning of play. When you “level up” you will then be Novice 2. (M.A.R.S. Characters also receive the one extra Advance at time of Character Creation).
Step Three: Group
Once you have your character approved, find a group that’s right for you and request to join. We have many different styles of group and even some non-Rifts games in our "Savage Dimensions" area.
