SPC Setting Rules Poll
SPC Setting Rules Poll
The current incarnation of the SPC IF allows access to many of the setting rules of the SPC. There's been discussion about culling or eliminating the list of allowed rules (and, even, in one case, possibly adding to it).
Here are the short-forms of the Setting Rules:
Combined Attacks: Lead character spends a benny, support characters give +1/+2 bonus to Lead's damage, everyone acts on lowest initiative.
Knockback: 20+ damage automatically knocks back an opponent 2d6" (Damage threshhold varies with the size of the target). This can cause extra damage on impact with solid objects.
Synergy: Non-Attack Powers can be used to enhance some other character's Power, at a +2-ish modifier.
Unarmed Defender: Supers ignore the Unarmed Defender rule.
Power Stunt: Spend a benny to turn one of your Powers into a different Power, temporarily.
Power Trick: Use a Power in a creative way to cause effects similar to a successful Test/Trick, with a few additional options.
Super Karma: The character may take an additional Major Hindrance to gain +10 Power Points at character creation.
If Option 2 wins, we'll have to vote on each individually; once the whole process is done, we'll incorporate them into the IF proposal, which can then be put up for a vote in House Rules proper.

Re: SPC Setting Rules Poll
My own opinions:
Combined Attacks: No
Synergy: No
These two both just get clunky when you try to add them to other characters.
Knockback: No.
I will include Patrick's limited version as an option in the ultimate Knockback Poll, but I really don't think we need to make combat more complicated than it already is.
Unarmed Defender: Yes
Superheroes are just naturally inclined to punch people. Note that a punch still only does Strength Damage without additional Edges; it's just that for a Superhero, that can be d12+6.
Power Stunt: No
Big, huge, ugly-ass can o' worms.
Power Trick: Yes
I kind of like this one. As noted, it's really just a fairly straightforward extension of Tests and Tricks. I won't pitch a fit if it's cut, but I don't think doing neat things with your power is as outrageous as actually just getting a new power entirely. I'll note that the Burster (the single most obvious SPC-influenced IF) actually does get this in a slightly limited form.
Super Karma: Indifferent
I do think that for 10 points, it might be underpriced. Bumping the starting total of points up to 40 is pretty major.

Re: SPC Setting Rules Poll
Another option would be just writing in the assumption of Super Karma and saying. "One of you may hindrances needs to be from the cool list."
I am a fan of both the extra point the players will get for flushing out their concept and for the extra cool limitation of those hindrances.

RFT,
By "cool list" do mean the ones in the SPC?
If so, I was thinking something similar.

I feel like those hindrances are what really add depth to the options for a character and would like SPC characters to have at least one, if not two.

Re: SPC Setting Rules Poll
I like the options offered by Negative Racial Traits too. Maybe bump it up to the equivalent of 2 Major Hindrances (or 1 Major and 2 Minor) or 4 pts of Negative traits.

Re: SPC Setting Rules Poll
I think Synergy is fine. It doesn't seem to inconvenience another player (like cooperative attack would), and its a fun little boost for the SPC char. But I wouldn't be sad if it went away.
Cooperative attack can go as far as I'm concerned.
Knockback I think is good. And I wouldn't mind working on it for house rules. Rifts deals with this situation a lot.
Unarmed Defender im fine with either way. Note that not every super is a punchy-fighty type.
Though it costs a benny, Power Stunts kind of get into TW territory and im fine with it going.
Power Tricks look fun but I haven't used them. I dont think it breaks anything or steps on any toes, so why remove them?

Any vote for is a 1, any vote no is a -1, and any indifferent vote is 0; total them up, and evaluate based on all four.
Questions -Results based on the four who gave feedback
Combined Attacks: more against (generally not wanted)
Knockback: indifferent overall (needs a poll with options, including mine)
Synergy: more against (generally not wanted)
Unarmed Defender: more for (get on with your bad self)
Power Stunt: indifferent overall (People just don't care and the 'for''s and 'against' weren't all that stringent)
Power Trick: more against (generally not wanted)
Super Karma: more for (get on with your bad self)

Re: SPC Setting Rules Poll
Have to say, for the most part I don't find any of the character options above problematic, certainly in tabletop games, so I'd be inclined to keep them all, lock stock and barrel. Rifts already has it's share of setting specific stuff (the Iconic Frameworks for a big start), this is just the stuff that goes toward making up the equivalent of a SPC Iconic Framework in my eyes. Might agree with the requirement to have at least one SPC specific hindrance though as they are very flavoured to these characters.

Adding Christian's feedback (no offense intended Steve, but your vote seemed to be fore the adoption of all of the as is, which is different than what we are doing here.

Re: SPC Setting Rules Poll
I would consider that a vote in favor of each of the rules, which is how he intended it.
Sounds like his vote was pretty close to mine.
