Maggie wrote:"Other dimension? Which one? On purpose, or Rifted?"
"Hades I think. Not enough evil trees to be Dyval, based on what little I know. And definitely not on purpose. Demon in his death throws took us there. I think. It was all fuzzy from the end of that battle on."
Maggie wrote:"Okay, so, introductions. I've met Leethe and Sir William. Who are the rest of you? I'm Maggie, but on the radio I usually go by my call sign, 'Slapdash,' in case that's more your thing. I was attached to the Fourteenth, until very recently."
"Slapdash, eh? Man, I'm surprised you kept that one, considering how when you got it the headmistress was describing your work ethic. Still, come a long way since then, eh? Oh, It's Sergeant Lawrence Charles, good to meet you. Most folks just call me L.C." Funnily enough, she'd been part of the group that had decided Charles felt too much like a first name to be used as a last name.
"I'm the 99's commander and Psi-Nullifier. Pleased to meet you again. Hadn't realized you had joined the Legion."
Of course what everyone in that orphanage knew (including both Maggie and L.C.) was that his last name had literally been stripped from him when his illiterate Missouri farmer parents turned in their
'demon child' to the P.R.P. authorities. They'd taken their bounty in cash equivalent and disappeared into anonymity. L.C. had written them off as deadbeats by the time he was 7. The staff of their orphanage became his parents, his fellow orphans his siblings. He'd been the last to see Maggie, and he'd forgiven her, even if he disagreed with her.
Maggie wrote:Maggie gives Calvin a smile. "Hi there, Calvin. You look like a good sort, all on the ground and guarded by a bunch of angry Legionnaires. Anyone got anything to put Calvin out for a bit so we can talk freely? Security risk."
"Calvin here isn't going to be a problem. In fact he's about to tell us all about the problem here with Xiticix. I'd love to hear your corollary reports."
Calvin the Shifter-Dirtbag wrote:The surprise and announce comes over the mans face near instantly as he realizes what you are saying. For all mankind the fear of the unknown is the greatest fear, and this situation has definitely triggered something here. "Hey now wait. These guys released that demon, and now they are holding me hostage after attacking me and stealing my energy unwarranted.
"I thought with a knight I would be safe, but it is starting to seem like maybe he is a fallen knight as he is siding with these others. The last 15 minutes have been one unwanted harassment after another as they plot to steal my supplies." His pitched changes a bit to a desperate whine before he catches himself. "Please, just let me go my way and we can all be happy."
Maggie wrote:Maggie rolls her eyes. ”Oh, good, so you had a demon? That’s supposed to help your cause? You’re doing great here, man. Calm down; nobody’s going to kill you, and nobody’s going to rob you. Grow up.”
"Actually what we were suggesting was resolving your issue as soon as we can get the hardware to do it. And then either move the village or eliminate the threat. There are plenty of magic users in the Legion who summon without summoning demons, idiot!"
Calvin the Shifter-Dirtbag wrote:"Oh don't act like your Legionaries are any better. Every shifter out there knows how infected your cult is. You are even at the point where down right evil summoners like Gaspard, Ulithrax and everyone knows all your seniors are demon kin. I don't do that kind of stuff, I help people out."
Maggie wrote:Maggie’s face changes, showing sudden interest. She crouches down so she’s on eye-level with the captive. ”Wait. Say that part again. What do you mean about ‘infected?’”
"You heard the lady, talk fast, but completely. I want details of what you mean. I just got back after the fight with the last demon lord to cross my path. Child stealing bastard." the last phrase comes out as much as a curse as it does a statement. Maggie might remember the tone, as L.C. would use it when defending weaker kids in the orphanage.
