Mission 1: New Del Rio, part 1

Post by Pender Lumkiss »

In the afternoon a communique notifies you to meet at the office of Captain Lumkiss. He is commonly known as not the best nor brightest. Scuttlebutt is that he knows on a personal level some of the higher ups within the tomorrow legion. He has really wanted a SET but has been constantly passed over. He has an assistant named Ms. Dee.

When you come into the office a man with a red jacket, a baseball cap, and a goofy grin greets you, " Welcome, Welcome, so exciting! Please grab a chair! We have water and some pastries." One of the first things you know about the office is that the wall next to the door has a coat of fresh paint on it, and the telltale marks of covered up fist sized holes. As more of you come in he exclaims, " So exciting, great to meet you all."

The man at the desk gets up nearly tripping over his own feet in excitement. " I am Pender, and I got my first mission-"
Ms. Dee gives a slight cough. Pender looks at her abashed and fumbles for a moment then continues, " Well I got a mission for you. Lord Choke recommended all you for this. I ahh..." The man looks down at his desk trying to find a file of some kind. Ms. Dee slaps the appropriate file into his hands. " Yes here it is. Several months ago we were contacted by Sebre Lasar-." Pender stops mid sentance and looks at Ms. Dee and whispers, " Is he really an emperor?" Ms. Dee simply nods her head and Hrumphs Pender nods and continues with Ravid excitement, " So this guy is an actual emperor! Well he contacted us asking for some assistance in surveying a ruined area near ... We lost contact with a survey team out west... Near the town of New Del Rio. We have been in regular contact with them until recently. What! They found 4 dragon eggs!!" He stops reading the report setting it down for a moment.
" Can you believe it, they found dragon eggs over there!! Just imagine the glory and heroics involved!" Ms. Dee picks the report off the desk seeing that the captain's delusions of grandeur have taken full effect.

She takes over summarizing the details. very no nonsense she states, " The security team sent with them got a report out through our communications network. Vampires had overrun their position as well as the town of New Del Rio. We need you to recover the survey and security team, locate and bring back the dragon eggs, and if possible be a hero to those in New Del Rio. If we can show Emporer Lasar the tomorrow legion is a force dedicated to making a better tomorrow to all it will go along way in gaining an ally." She cracks a sharp smile and ends with, " If you can see to bring back the Mark V we lent the security team that would be helpful too."

Captain Pender sensing the finality of what she said, brings his focus back to the group. He grabs a letter on his desk, only to mis and knock it onto the floor. He fumbles and bends down gathering it. He looks at the group, looking at your faces very carefully. He settles on Penitent. " Oh yes Pentameter, a message for you regarding, ummm some contacts that would be useful." Captain Lumkiss hands over the sealed letter.
OOC Comments
The Survey Team has made contact with the following people regarding the Penitent's special circumstances:
  • New Del Rio, Stick Rodriguez, a local fisherman.
  • New Del Rio, Anjelica Lopez, assistant to the mayor
  • New Del Rio, Frank, Probably a black market representative

Captain Pender sits down, looking at his desk making sure he did not leave any details out. He picks up a small sticky note, " Oh it looks like the Survey Team met a local down there, Vela..." He grabs a requisition form off his desk and laughs, " I guess Terra was none too happy about this one, but when Lord Toke leader of Cyberknights puts in a direct request... We have set you up to meet with Tyler Thomas, Terra Silverforge's assistant. You can obtain a Techno Wizard flame blade, don't get too excited Terra would not part with anything but her Prototypes, or you can get one of your standard Melee weapons silver plated... Looks like here it says the silver plating dulls the edge just a bit...Hmm says it will be a rush job, not sure what that means. Haha! I doubt anyone uses slug throwers, but apparently there are some rounds that can be made available. Oh look here, a Legion Truck will be provided... What another true atlantean..." His voice drops low and too Ms. Dee he whispers, " How many of these guys are we sending?"
Ms. Dee looks at him with a death stare. Captian Lumpkiss looks up from the requisition report, " Sorry B'aughb will be the driver, doesn't talk much"
OOC Comments
Weapon Choice:
  • TW flame blade, per tomorrow legion book. Prototype hindrance: suffers technical difficulties on a roll of a 1 on the fighting die.
  • Silver Coated Weapon: Your melee weapon becomes silver coated, -1 AP, on a roll of a 1 on the fighting die the plating is stripped off.
  • Bullets, enough rounds for 1 ranged weapon ( Rail gun included), -1 AP.
Pender opens his mouth to say more but a metallic fist busts through the freshly painted wall! From the hall way you can hear a metalic chortle, " Hahaha, Lame-Ass!" Pender trips over his desk trying to rush out the door. He gets up and limps out the door, his face is beat red. You can hear him calling after the Assailant.

Ms. Dee coughs sharply, " Brothers!" She sets down the report. Pointedly she finishes the briefing, " You will meet with B'aughb in three hours time, and head out due south. 45 miles is the rift we use for our lines of communication you should be able to get there a few hours after sunset. I believe Krysesia is equipped to open a portal and get you to the Survey teams site in one piece. You could of course wait until morning, but Pender did not tell you we literally just got their request for help. Get your gear sorted out and go save those folks."

She looks over glasses, "I would reccomend brining water, lots of it... It can get hot and uncomfortable over there. Any questions?"
Tyler Thomas
As you approach his work shop, you see a smartly dressed young man, with red hair and spektacles. He barely acknowledges you as you approach, yet he is keenly aware of your presence and has chosen for the most part to ignore it. After a few awkward moments you looks up at you with eyes that shout, Great another hero. From behind the kid you see a few hilts on a work bench most have a peice or two missing. A large vat of silver liquid is also bubbling near by. There is a crate at his feet. After another moment he snipes, " So the specialists at last... Whats it going to be?

The Dossier
Legion Extended Duration Survey (LEDS) Team 46 - Composition and Supply

Team Leader:
Paul Grissom (rogue scholar) - An experienced field scientist in multiple disciplines, Paul has been serving on long range recon and survey teams for over five years. He has the scars to prove it as well; his right arm cybernetic replacement surgery was completed just before his team's latest assignment.
(Major Hindrance: Bad Luck)

Second:
Sgt Jesse Vidal (combat cyborg) - Any expedition away from controlled areas must have military expertise, and Sgt Vidal provides it for this team. A long time veteran of multiple conflicts, she not only possesses the durability and firepower of a hardened cyborg chassis, but a sound tactical and strategic mind. Though technically second in command, she takes over in combat situations.
(Major Hindrance: Code of Honor)

Technical Support:
Specialist August Cooper (Operator) - August is a multitasker, driven by an intense curiosity about the world and an eagerness to find ever more lost secrets of pre-Rifts Earth. He drives the team vehicles, maintains their gear, and deals with any questions or issues stemming from technology that the team encounters.
(Major Hindrance: Curious)

Regional Expertise:
Specialist Carla Reyes (Ley Line Walker) - Carla is an experienced magician, schooled in both the ancestral traditions of her native people and the more studied approach of modern mages. Though known to be considering retiring soon, when she learned a LEDS team was venturing to the American south and needed a local expert, she volunteered immediately.
(Major Hindrance: Elderly)

Scout/Recon
Stan Leman (Wilderness Scout) - Stan 'the man,' is known for being quiet and keeping to himself. While rumors of a checkered past swirl around him, his service in the Tomorrow Legion has been exemplary. In the field he aids with navigation, foraging when necessary, and scouting.
(Major Hindrance: Heroic)

Krysesia is not pleased to be answering to Pender, but she hides it fairly well. At one point she actually looks to see if he has the knobs of a crazy, though she is unobtrusive about it. She does appreciate Ms. Dee and it shows in her demeanor. She nods at all of the information. Her voice sounds far to proper for American (Note she speaks Trade Four, so while there are good similarities, it's about the difference between English from England and English from America). "May I get any landmark information about where we are going? I want to make sure I open the rift to the proper location. I needn't put us out somewhere even more hostile than where we intend to be." Her voice carries a certain lyrical cant. Otherwise, she simply agrees to the task.

She then heads to Tyler and smiles when he asks his question. "Oh thank you my good man. I know we were offered silver ammunition, but I actually find myself without a longarm. Against most foes that would not concern me, but against vampires, I'd rather have a good backup in case we find ourselves overwhelmed past the capability of my magic. Do you have one of those pump action shotguns around? The pistol grip kind would be most appreciated. Oh and a flashlight attachment as well. And if you do, I'd like silver slug ammunition, bean bag rounds, if you have any, and some regular ammunition as well." As he speaks, she can see the hesitancy, so she adds. "I will buy them if I need to."

Ms. Dee raises an eye brow. She places a general map before Krysesia. " An apt question. From these reports, the area of the survey was a sandy flat with a river crossing the southern portion. A rocky spire and some kind of ancient temple devoted to Laughlin, possibly were to the north of the general local of where the team was surveying... About 9 miles to the east of the town of New Del Rio." Ms Dee smirks slightly and surreptitiously slides a flyer to Krysesia for the Titular Tomorrow: A musical chronicling the storied adventures of the Tomorrow Legion.

Krysesia wrote: She then heads to Tyler and smiles when he asks his question. "Oh thank you my good man. I know we were offered silver ammunition, but I actually find myself without a longarm. Tyler Thomas perks up a bit when Krysesia comes to the workshop of Terra Silverforge ( Silverforge is not present). He figits slightly with his bow-tie. However he haws and hems at the non-standard requition, but finally agrees to the request. While talking Krysesia cannot help but notice on the wall, a mastefully crafted double barrel shotgun, made of a wooden stock, and a chrome barrel. 4 blue crystals adorn the weapon, and the wooden stock has a beautiful silver fillagry that starts at the base and continues up to the Chrome barrel. Tyler Thomas pauses noticing Krysesia looking at the master-crafted shotgun.
" Yeah the Vampire's Lullaby..." Tyler Thomas brings it down, it is clear the weapon has a lot of heft to it. He puts it on the counter with a grunt, and pats it lovingly" This double barreled shotgun is very powerful, it's been used across 2 continents as it's versatile and adaptable. The length of the weapon is 817mm and has a barrel length of 664mm. The weapon weighs about 20lbs. This shotgun comes with an extendable stock and a cheek piece stock. The stock is made out of exotic wood with a silver filiagry. This weapon was designed by Terra Silverforge who initially designed it for use in the fight against vampires. The name of this weapon is the 91-VP, but it usually goes by its nickname, Vampire's Lulaby." He finishes describing the shotgun as if describing something he loves.
He bends in close to Krysesia, whispering to her, " I can let you take it for a spin, I get out of here in about four hours, we could maybe grab a bite to eat... Of course I suppose I can get you the rest of your requisition as well."
TW Vampire Lulaby

(rolls held)
As she listens to the briefing, she thinks of what she knows about Lasar - which isn't much. Forceful personality with a code of honor, but employs gangs and hoodlums without reservation. Further he does nothing to curtail them. Still they must fear him enough to follow him at all. New Del Rio turns her nose more, however. She remembered hearing about it in Lazlo. A hive of scum and villainy - that same line just seems so appropriate. That Obi-Wan character really was a wise mentor. Shaking her head from the movie their professor had shown them her third year in university, she returns to the thoughts of the ruling family of new Del Rio. Cretins who only care about their own power and safety, letting vampires and gangs prey on the tens of thousands of souls in the city. 'This town needs an enima.' Another movie quote from that course on pre-rifts media, but appropriate regarding the town.

"Laughlin? Curious, I seem to remember that name from a course I took in military history." She takes the flyer without comment, though she does catch the woman's eyes with a look that signals acknowledgement. 'Curiouser and curiouser,' she thinks.

'Ah, humans. So predictable, and so incorrigibly cute. Like pups!' She smiles broadly at his offer of the shotgun and nods appreciatively. She takes it, feeling the heft of it At his suggestion, she shrugs helplessly, but does not look repulsed, though she does not flirt. "Perhaps another time, good fellow. Our team is to leave in three hours or less. But I'll definitely offer you a rain check or two if you'll let me borrow it. I'll bring it back straight away when we're done in New Del Rio." Truth told she wasn't opposed to letting the boy take her out to dinner a time or two. Nothing more, but she'd happily grace him with her presence for the offering.

Edit:
Notice [dice]3[/dice]
Wild Die [dice]4[/dice]

Though his stony expression betrays nothing, Penitent marvels at the ineptitude on display as the captain fumbles through the orders they have been given.

This one is even more helpless than some of those in the place called Lazlo. Soft and foolish - none of them would last an hour in the trenches against the Horde. Yet somehow this one had been elevated to the rank of a commander. I wonder if the Legion is infected with the same sort of nepotism and patronage as the Cathedral?

Still, a lone warrior cannot be too picky about his allies, and the Legion has proven useful so far, going so far as to promise to use its information network to help locate his daughter. Penitent nods in gratitude, accepting the sealed letter from Lumkiss with both hands.

"May the Light scour the darkest corners of your soul, Captain, and the scourging give you strength," the grizzled warrior says, before tucking the missive into the scroll case hanging from his belt, beside the darkened flesh of his demon mask.

~~~~0~~~~
When the meeting is done, the apok heads to see the quartermaster. With a withering gaze, he watches the bespectacled apprentice clumsily try to romance the blonde Atlantean, Sebazio's daughter. Made of stern stuff, that one, and unlikely to be moved by such triviality. Eschewing small talk, Penitent approaches the table and lays down the .50-caliber heavy pistol he bartered for in Lazlo.
"I need silver rounds for this gun. Soft-point, high-pressure cartridges, packed with enough powder to stop a demon. And one of those ... tubes of silence, that screw onto the end, if you have it."
Captain Lumkiss pauses a second grinning like a dopey fool at that. " Well put Pennymelter, well put. Man if I can do that I'll get assigned a SET for sure. " His eyes light up with excitement, " Wormwood must have been some place!"
Tyler Thomas seems lost in thought when Penitent approaches." Is she always so dreamy?" He looks up at Penitent briefly, " I got a date with her right man? Everything just went fuzzy for a moment... I think I am in love."
Penitent's great skill in persuasion and natural direct charisma bring Tyler Thomas back. He looks at Penitent with an eye brow raised and a half an eye roll.
Tyler starts in like he is explaining something to a 4 year old. " So, Silver rounds have less stopping power, they are soft by comparison." Tyler Picks up the gun holding it for a moment. His eyes drift away watching Krysesia walking away.
He leans in closer, " Look here's the deal, I can give you some silver rounds for this guy. Give me 2 hours with this, alone and no distractions I can beef up the stopping power. Its not like I'll ruin it..." Tyler chuckles slightly giving some indication there could be some scenario where the gun is ruined. " Tube of silence is no problem... Might throw off the accuracy. Catch is I need you to put in a good word for me with that bombshell Krysesia... Her father is Sebazio Lengdosia for Pete's sake! Could you imagine dating her and hearing a first hand account of his many adventures!"
Silencer
From Deadlands noir:
Silencers impose a –1 penalty to Shooting rolls while using the silenced weapon. Characters (also known as “witnesses”) within 5” of the fired weapon, and not in line of sight, must make a Notice roll to realize a gun has been fired. Those beyond 5” suffer a –2 to this roll and those beyond 10”, a –4. Beyond 20”, no roll is possible unless the character is actually looking at the shooter. The firer may make a Stealth roll (opposed by Notice) to hide the use of the weapon, but this incurs the standard multi-action penalty. Silencers only work on semi-automatic pistols (not revolvers).
Gun Upgrade 18
Essentially Tyler is going to up the stopping power at the cost of penetration. We will be using the necromantic shard trapping but for every success in a raise it adds +1 damage to unarmored targets and -1 damage vs armored. Terra Silverforge's workshop gives a +4 bonus to the work. But he is a skilled extra.
Silver rounds and silencer
The idea was that soft bullets + extra powder = more expansion/tissue damage/stopping power at the cost of less penetration (AP). Which should be fine against wild vampires. The silencer rules will work ... but it's weird that they have them reduce accuracy, as modern suppressors are often added to increase accuracy. I guess there aren't any post-Old West silencer rules in any SW books? I've got SW-Deluxe, SPC2 and the Sci-Fi Companion, and don't see anything in any of them. Anyway, as long as the silencer is removable that's fine.
"I'll be sure to relay your interest, along with my opinion," Penitent says, before nodding at the gun. "Do what must be done to strengthen the weapon, but take care. It is forged of good steel, and has yet to fulfill it's purpose. I will return in two hours."
Ink was happy to be going on a mission - idle hands and all that. However, his brow furrowed slightly and the hint of a frown graced his face as he listened to their new 'mission-giver' speak. The man seemed very off, indeed. His eyes swiveled to the assistant, Ms. Dee, who seemed much more capable and also a 'wrangler' of sorts for the captain. He listened to what she had to say with interest, not taking his eyes off of her eyes until she was done.
The Pecos Badlands. He restrained a sigh. He had been there before. He had...experienced a mixed time there, some good, some really bad. The various bandit groups could be tough, though some could be quite reasonable. Perhaps they wouldn't have to deal with them. Perhaps it would be just vamp-killing and a heroic rescue. Perhaps.
An APC. A lost survey team. Currying favor with Emperor Lasar. And dragon eggs? Very interesting. He couldn't imagine if they were really dragon eggs why they would be unprotected, and he couldn't imagine that vampires would be protecting them.
He followed along to see the "Tyler" person and shook his head slightly, trying to hide a smirk, as Krysesia went to work. She seemed to have a way with men at times. He looked slightly impressed at the Vampire's Lullaby, however, and shot a side-long glance of a little jealously at her when she was offered to 'borrow' it.
To Tyler, he raised an eyebrow, and his lips quirked up in a small smile. "You...wanna date my cousin? Heh. She's a handful, let me tell ya." He leaned down on to an elbow. "So. I need some bullets an' a rifle, sniper or assault, somethin' I can handle. Some silver bullets would be...whew! just cherry, maybe a clip of two if you could manage, I'd much appreciate it and let Krysesia know how ya feel. Or I can go buy a gun myself if I really need to."
Arriving within only a moment of the start time Leben is relaxed as he enters, casually observing the people in the room with respectful nods were eye contact us made before going to stands in his proper place.
As the speech concludes Leben sees the nervousness and inexperience of the new commander so he waits until the presentation is completed before approaching him and placing a soft hand on his shoulder. “It is okay to be nervous on your first command. Do not be intimidated by the hardness of your men. Remember we all begin inexperienced and must grow in our own time.”
Turning to Ms. Dee he thanks her before moving on. “Thank you Ms Dee. Your report was efficient and prompt. But I have a couple of questions. First, I would like to know how much time we have before it is needed for us to leave?”
Focused on the people involved and looking through the dossier Level asks. "Second, if there is any more information about the team members, such as addictions, family, friends, loved ones, or hobbies it may be helpful. Once in the field it will be hard to gain additional information.”
Heading towards the armory Leben looks around and confesses to the armorer. “I am uncomfortable carrying so many heavy weapons and think it would slow me to the point of being a liability to my comrades." Looking for anything lighter, or more useful in his trade Leben scans the visible portion of the inventory.
Ashlyn stood quietly behind the more assertive Atlanteans as Commander Lumkiss and Ms. Dee. It sounded like she was going home. Well, to the Pecos Empire, anyway. She had never been to New Del Rio. She hadn’t really ever been much farther from her town of New Alamo than the ruins of San Antonio, until she came up here to the Tomorrow Legion.
The woman was young, not even thirty. Long black hair cascaded down her back. Since she was safely ensconced in the confines of Castle Refuge she was dressed in civilian attire, a simple white sundress and sandals, a silver cross at her throat. She idly fingered the beads of a rosary between her fingers as she listened intently. English wasn’t her first language, so she concentrated to make sure she got everything she needed.
Gracias, señora, Ashlyn said to Ms. Dee, since the commander had run out of the room. “We find your lost team, sí,” she promised, si Dios quiere. She made a sign of the cross when she said that, and then turned to follow the others out of the office.
They headed to the workshop next to requisition their needed gear. Ashlyn offered the techno-wizard on duty a shy smile.
“I no have close weapon, señor, she told the young man. “Just laser pistol and wood cross. If you have any weapon I could use -- maybe vibro-knife or sword -- I would be most thankful. Silvered, perhaps?” She eyed the vat of silver bubbling nearby. “Also we go to very dry place to face vampires. Plenty agua -- water -- be good. LIke large tank we can use to refill? Or a… como se dice… water shooter?” she asked, looking at the others to see if she had gotten the word right. “Something we can carry and I can bless water.” She flashed the young man a kind smile.
Ink sees Tyler Thomas with Penitent's Beretta literally taking the thing apart. He has a bunch of tools and is working on it furiously. He looks a bit annoyed when Ink comes up, but at the mention of cousin he smiles like a little puppy dog.
He breathes, " I know dreamy..." He refocuses on Ink when he starts rattling off what he is looking for. While talking Ink misses a gentleman with a full length duster put a nice looking sniper rifle against Tyler's work station. In southern drawl he says while shaking his head, " Sorry kid, not for me... That Fate's a real bitch."
Tyler Thomas' brow furrows when Ink is finished. He grabs a cloth and hefts up the nearby sniper rifle rubbing its barrel and cleaning it carefully. " So you are Krysesia's cousin. Yeah if you could help me out..." He lowers his voice and straightens his bow tie, " Man to man ya know."
He straightens up placing the sniper rifle on the table, it is not quite as heavy as the shotgun before it, but still Tyler Thomas gives it the respect due. After dusting it off a bit he looks at ink, " I think this one could suite you. Fate's Fury, single action sniping rifle. Terra Silverforge... Well she would put it, went where no TW should have gone, it has an interesting quirk, sometimes fate shines and other times it does not. Normally it would shoot a fifty caliber slug, but you will notice the chamber and clip form a rare diamond matrix, literally holding the power of the sun waiting to be unleashed in a tight beam... Don't loose the clip!"
Tyler Thomas offers a hand to Ink, " put in a word with your cousin and you can borrow for a bit, test it out and see how you like it... Did you know her father is none other than Sebazio Lengdosia! Legends say he fought a vampire intelegence single handedly with no weapons! Could you imagine meeting him!!" He pauses for a seconded, " Maybe you have... What was he like?"
Ink let out a small chuckle at Tyler's love-struck attitude and words. He glanced at the man with the duster who put the rifle down and raised an eyebrow at the reasoning behind bringing it back. He looked it over carefully and grew a bit excited. It looked like a pretty damn good rifle to him! He whispered its name with interest and almost reverence, "...Fate's Fury..."
He smiled at Tyler and nodded. "Man to man...I'll talk to her about you. Put in a good word." He meant every word. Of course, he also knew his cousin and she wasn't going to date the boy long-term. He was much too young for her, to start with, and he was sure that there might be other reasons as well.
He nodded, more serious, his accent deepening slightly. "I do indeed know her father. I have trained with him, actually. Like him, I'm an Undead Slayer, though I'm not his in league yet, of course. I'm still young by my people's standards." He paused, eyes looking back in to the past of his memories. "He is a great man. Honorable. Strict, harsh even at times, but fair. Sometimes I relate more to him than I do my own father."
He shook himself out of the reverie and looked around. "This, though," He indicated the rifle as he carefully picked it up, "This will not be forgotten. I'm very excited to try it out!" He suddenly frowned slightly. "Do you have a carrying case for this? I'd hate to drop it accidentally."
Do not be intimidated by the hardness of your men. Remember we all begin inexperienced and must grow in our own time.”
Captain Lumkiss screeches to a halt before racing after his brother. He smiles despite being thoroughly embarssed, " Thanks Lebonade, I need to give it time." He hurriedly moves to the door after his full conversion borg brother, " I am growing as we speak brother!"
Leben wrote: Turning to Ms. Dee he thanks her before moving on. “Thank you Ms Dee. Your report was efficient and prompt. But I have a couple of questions. First, I would like to know how much time we have before it is needed for us to leave?”
Ms. Dee looks at him smartly over her glasses. She glances at the reports briefly, she speaks with little emotion as if stating a fact, " The time is very much up to you Leben. We have put this mission together fairly quickly upon hearing of our people in trouble. I have never been overrun by vampires, but I would hope those coming to rescue me would do with haste.".
She pauses pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose, " A good question Leben, the survey team comprised of some talented individuals and ones with unique charms: Team Leader Paul Grissom, one of Erin's protogees if I am not mistaken... I recall they had a falling out due to his rather misfortune misstep. Sargent Jesse Vidal second in command a combat cyborg, one of the foremost strategic minds we here posses. He is without a doubt honorable to a fault."
She takes a sip of water still looking at Leben with keen interest while she recites the teams dossier. " Specialist August Cooper an operator, multi-tasker and jack of trades. The first to volunteer for this mission, probably the reason his step brother Sargent Vidal was hell bent on going. Specialit's Cooper curiousness nature has already killed a dozen cats... Pray it does not kill him and his step-brother. Second to volunteer just behind Specialist Cooper by a fraction of a second, possibly due to her advanced age was none other than Specialist Carla Reyes. Possibly the foremost expert on the south American region. A lay-line walker of unparalleled experience, it was her update that has lead us to this junction."
Ms Dee sits and relaxes for a moment her lips purse in a hidden smile, her voice betrays a soft fondness, " Then there was Stan Leman, most call him aptly The Man. A wilderness scout of great courage, and fortitude. Despite unfounded rumors of a storied past, he is the most heroic man I have ever encountered. He alone brought 35 refugees through 100's of miles of CS and Demonic patrolled wilderness to the castle. Not a single refugee has ever died on his watch."
She wipes the corner of her eye with a tissue, clearly recounting the team has brought up unchecked emotions within her normally icy demeanor. " That there is the team we need you to bring back."
The young man at the counter as a gun taken apart, and almost halfway put back... But it is clear the redhead kid's mind is elsewhere. " Did you see her? A walking dream..." As Leben is talking something strikes him familiar about the kid.
Tyler Thomas squints at him, " Leben? Man that is you!" Tyler fishes something out of his pocket. It is a ever glowing marble.
" I carry this everywhere I go, its got me out of a tight spot on occasion, but it brings me luck." He puts it back in his pocket carefully looking at Leben. " Ok something light, yeah adding silver plating can sometimes throw off the balance of the weapons, and the flame swords I am allowed to give you are..." He sort of shrugs his shoulders and seesaws his hands, " Lets be honest they are a bit defective. Terra just hates it when Captains requisition her stock without checking with her first."
Tyler goes over to a wall and pulls down a polearm made of a black metal with a amethyst gem at the top. He turns back arround with the staff in hand placing it on the counter. He smiles excitedly at leben, " I showed the marble you gave me to Terra..." He laughs, " She said it was an unnatural contraption that had no place in a techno wizard workshop. Three days later she had crafted this. The binding staff of light!" He runs his hands over the black metal, " Crafted from cold iron, as hard as steel..." He unscrews the amethyst top much like a light bulb revealing a gears and wiring; a clear techno wizard design, he lets Leben hold the crystal. " I think she was inspired by your gift. The staff while powered can entrap people in a light field made out of sunlight! You would need to be a Titan Juicer to get out!" He looks around and lowers his voice, " Look Terra has just kept this in the corner, look it is super dusty. After the luck you brought me it would be the least I could do to let you have it." He thinks for a moment and drags out a sniper rifle soft carrying case. " Hey, umm I need to stay here for a few more hours, and I need to get this case to Ink, he's an Undead Slayer the probably protogee of Sebazio Lengdosia! He's trying to help me with a personal matter and..." Tyler Thomas looses his train of thought passing the items to Leben, Tyler sighs deeply, " She is just so dreamy."
Ah, well as long as his information is accurate and he does not actually command this expedition then I shall not concern myself with this, what was the term these humans use? Ah yes, I shall not concern myself with the incompetence of this staff puke. At least this Ms Dee seems to know what she's doing.
Spartacus watches the Captain run out of the office and turns his attention back to Ms. Dee. "I, am Sparrrrtacus! Humble member of the order of Cyber-Knights. Waterrrrr would cerrrrrtainly be beneficial. Hhhhhhow much can we expect to take with us? Spartacus rumbles in a guttural voice, "I would also like to requisition several canteens for each memberrrrr of the expedition should the need arrrrise to go on foot at any point. Thanking Ms Dee and ignoring her curtness as simply part of her personality Leben moves on.
~~~~~~~

Looking around for the context of his interest Leben says, "The lady, indeed she seems wonderful." Giving Tyler the time it takes him to finish digesting his feelings and then listening as he returns to the real world Leben says.
"Tyler, oh I must apologize I did not recognise you at first. I have been traveling so much.
"But I am very happy it was of use to you, but to see it inspired others is also excellent.'

After watching Tyler as he shares the details of his story and shows the abandoned staff to Leben he is amazed. "Honestly I do not know how to thank you. This is a fine device, well above anything I could have reasonably expected. I came hear hoping I could find more statues and marbles for helping people, but this...
"Thank you very much Tyler. You know a man is measured in life by what he does for others and today you have done me a great service I do not know I can repay."

After listening to her request he nods and smiles trying to impress her with his boyish charm. " Hey what are you doing later tomorrow? Maybe we can meet up? I have this water gun. I made it myself and I am very interested in hearing how it performs in the field." Tyler goes into the back and comes out holding a water pistol. It is black with some grey highlights and the blade is mostly red with some silver streaks running through it that form an impression of a cross. It has a chamber for water and it looks like a space for an e-clip, giving the impression it takes a rifle magazine.
He hoists it proudly, "The SS-TBD Mark 3. He twists it around showing it off for Ashlyn before resting it in her arms. He smiles at her proudly.
" It holds enough water for 5 good blasts, about 5 pints worth. It has a high pressure chamber effectively doubling the range when compared to most soakers." He touches the side of the red blade, tracing one of the crosses. He whispers, " A Tibetan ritual dagger with a cross etched into each side, a vampires worse nightmare." He chuckles a bit to himself, " Well thats what Terra said anyway. Look here..." He points to the e-clip and a black matted button, " Press this and well it will send a vibration through the blade making it as sharp as any vibro-dagger." He clicks his tongue and frowns slightly, " Ahh I would go easy on that feature, Mark 1-2 blew up in my face. The e-clip will power the vibrations for 3 rounds and then need to be switched out. I call this baby The Locust." He steps back letter her hold it a bit. " So take it for a spin, and then tomorrow I should be free and lets get together an talk about it."

Spartacus rumbles in a guttural voice, "I would also like to requisition several canteens for each memberrrrr of the expedition should the need arrrrise to go on foot at any point. Any additional medical supplies that can be spared would also be a good idea I think. Will this B'aughhhhhhb and his vehicle be at our disposal for the entire trip?"
Ms. Dee Looks down her glasses at Spartacus, she smiles curtly and sharply says, " Yes this region is very hot this time of year. Water would be a good thing." She taps on her electronic tablet breifly. " The least we can do is make sure you six do not die of thirst. One 50 gallon drum of potable water, note the water is potable but the drum will be quiet heavy. Yes, Yes canteens for all have been requested, and Captain Lumkiss has already requisitioned an IRMSS for your team..." She taps her pad a few more times and her eye brow raises, " It would seem it was approved." She smiles shrewdly at the cyberknight.
Nodding she says, " B'aughb will be your driver for this mission, his primary function is to transport the Dragon Eggs back to Castle Refuge. We are unsure if the Mk. 5 is still on sight, so a legion truck is being provided to facilitate such a transportation."
Spartacus wrote: Moving on to Tyler Spartacus sees nothing on display that peaks his interest. Turning his attention to Tyler he growls, "I simply require a belt or bandoleer suitable for holding wooden stakes such as thisssss." Spartacus holds forth a wooden stake a little more than a foot long and sharpened at one end. "It should be able to hold at least three though more would be betterrrrrr," he continues, I do not wish to be fumbling in my pack for a stake should I have need of oneeee."
Last to arrive, Spartacus sees Tyler putting the finishing touches on a weapon that now looks nothing like the Beretta Penitent had turned over to him. You hear him muttering excitedly to himself, " Not too bad Tyler, Not too bad. Play it cool with these ladies and you will have a girl-friend, and possibly meet Sebazio Lengdosia himself!" The imposing Wolfen startles him a bit, but he breathes a sigh of relief when he sees the cyber knight armor. He listens to the Cyberknight ask for a belt or bandoleer while glancing worrisome at the un-asked for prototype TW flame swords.
" Ok those stakes are pretty large, I think we have something in the back that could work..." Tyler leaves snatching the stake from your hand. While he is gone you notice a small black duffle bag sitting in the back of the work shop, it has a vaguely familiar crest, half hidden thanks to some ill placed steel cabling, but something about the portion that is visible seems awfully familiar.
OOC Comments
Something planned for this bag later, or if you want to try stealing it...
Tyler comes out moments later with a bandolier that has one of your stakes slid through it at a slight angle. The bandoleer looks like it is made from solid craftsmanship, and bears the Mark of the maker on a shoulder strap buckle TS.
He hands it over to Spartacus and nods his head, " That is pretty good, Terra has a wide girth, so it should fit nicely over your armor. She has not used it in years so I am sure she will not mind. It also has a sheath in the back for a long knife, should you acquire one on your travels, and a couple of spots for vials of liquids... Anti-venom, holy water and what not that you can fill up when you get to where you are going. It looks like that should make fetching stakes a bit easier, not so much rummaging through your back pack." Tyler seems to figit a bit, like he is anxious to close up shop. " Well I need to get some things done before my date with Krysesia, have you met her..? A blonde bombshell if there was one... The stories she must have probably could go on forever." With little grace he attempts to usher Spartacus out of the work space pulling down a silvered gate and locking it. " Well enjoy your evening! I most certainly will"

Spartacus eyes the bandoleer appreciatively, "Mistress Tarrra must be a... formidable female to where such as this, Masterrr Tylerrr, you both have my thanks." As he turns to leave with the craftsman Spartacus takes note of the crest emblazoned on a bag sitting behind the counter at the rear of the shop. "That crest, Masterrr Tylerrr, I know I have seen it before but the memory eludes me. Tell me, do you know it's meaning?"

"That crest, Masterrr Tylerrr, I know I have seen it before but the memory eludes me. Tell me, do you know it's meaning?"
Tyler cocks an eye at him, squinting through the slivered gate... He face palms, " Ahh man, you're Spartacus right? Of course you are." Tyler Thomas unlocks and lifts the gates up. " Sorry man, I have had this beauty on my mind all afternoon, can you imagine the daughter of Sebazio Lengdosia going out with me! I think I got a date with her friend too." He walks over to the back and grabs the black duffel, the crest of Sir Marcus is now fully visible. " I had a meeting with Captain Lumkiss and Sir Marcus a few hours ago to go over a teams requisition. Flame swords and what not, they have not showed up yet. But Sir Marcus seemed fairly angry with Captain Lumkiss... Something about being passed over. Before he stormed out he gave Captain Lumpkiss this bag." Tyler Thomas hands it to Spartacus and in his best voice imitates Sir Marcus, See that Sir Spartacus gets this, he will be too proud to ask for much more than his natural gifts will bestow, but his enemy is fierce and without relent. He will need more that he knows when confronting it. Most knights have such a vampire hunting bag, this here is mine see that he receives it." Tyler coughs. " I guess it got to the right place."
He pulls down the silvered gates again locking up the shop. He bids the knight farewell, " Have a good night Sir Spartacus, I got to go wash up and get ready for my date."

Grab Bag

[dice]1[/dice]

I suppose I'll have to make an adjustment to get the throwing skill. I'll take a half dozen UV grenades. At least when they scatter I won't kill anyone.
Spartacus looks into the bag and says, "This is a great honorrr. Please thank Sir Marrrcus for me." Why would Sir Marcus impart such a gift to me? Spartacus straightens, and nods to Tyler and takes his leave. Whatever the reason I must prove worthy of this honor.

Ashlyn smiled at the young man and listened carefully as he explained the weapon he was giving her. While some might laugh at the idea of wielding a super soaker in battle, against vampires she knew it would be very effective.

“Gracias,” Ashlyn told Tyler Thomas. “I am much in your debt. Though I do not know if we will be back tomorrow or not,” she admitted to him. “However, I will be sure to find you when we return to tell you all about it,” she promised the young man, offering him a beautiful smile.

Ashlyn slung the new weapon over her shoulder and followed the others out as the boy locked up the shop. Then she headed to her quarters to change and pick up her gear.
