The sun was high overhead when @Peta Chante spotted the walled city. The sun was reflecting off the wall making it hard to get a count of the guards but the wall was patrolled. He could see one large gate on this side and traffic was lining up to enter the city. A half dozen guards were checking the travelers as they entered.

From his vantage in the air @Watcher could see that the city was bustling inside the wall. People and d-bees were swarming everywhere in the city.

How are you approaching the city? Are you going armed for war? Is everyone going in?

Vikon sat up as they approached New Del Rio. He had never been to a city before. New Alamo wasn’t that big of a settlement. Until Castle Refuge, it had been the biggest he’d known. The young man looked at the walls and the line of vehicles backed up at the gate to get inside.

“It’s so big!” the young man gaped.

Trowel honked at the guards (Two quick beeps as was customary at the burb check points) and drove the stolen vehicle in on as much of an unthreatening vector as possible. He did not know what their deal was. Looking is over like we were a sack of Mrs McDonald’s Potatoes. But he knew what guards of their ilk did to his kind back in the burbs. He mumbled a bit nervous, “Taking is in nice and easy... Hold it together... Hold it.”

After his fly over, Watcher returns to the party and lets them consider what is ahead. "How should we approach the city only a couple miles ahead? Should we not let them see our power so they fear us and do not risk angering us?"

The Sphinx' opinion on the matter being obvious as he lands and prepares himself with some cleaning and preening before moving on towards them town.

Hearing over the radio the young man's anxiety Watcher asks. "Why do you worry, this is not a place of law or order. If we obey their rules will they not risk our wrath and stay clear?"

Orius looked to the city and frowned, it looked like a dump next to the glory of dweomer.

“Watcher, I am going to stay here and work on Bastion. I’ll watch over the camp if we are not taking the mountaineer into the city.”

Cities were an uncomfortable place for a Psi-Stalker, but new Del Rio was just enough of a wild west show for Peta to be somewhat comfortable. Joining up with the rest of the group he whispers to Niakit to disappear but stay close. Having a giant wolf leap from the great beyond was a handy backup plan. Long arms weren't generally allowed inside walled cities, but that didn't matter much as the albino vampire hunter was bristling with pistols of various make and tech level. Sniffing the air he frowns, "This place stinks, Let's do our business and get the hell out of here."

The commotion and sudden crosstalk awakened Vela from one of her naps, and she sat up in the mountaineer and stretched herself one limb at a time as she blinked and halfheartedly listened to what people were saying. Then she pushed up to the pair of seats in the front to get a glimpse through the vehicle's windscreen forward.

It took a second to orient herself, but the conclusion was inescapable. Vela remembered her last time through this place.

"New Del Rio," the werejaguar said. She yawned then and added, "It is the last...city we will find on the way. It is...ah...dirty, and there are many fighting. Also, vampires come often here to feed. Sometimes the stupid ones will walk in the open. Bring what you need to kill them."

Late afternoon

As they approached the gate, the guard waived for them to slow down and then stop in front of him. He glanced over the occupants and the cargo and then said "the new marshal is bringin' order to the town. No fightin', no killin', and no burnin' the town down. Keep ya nose clean and ya can stay. Start trouble and ya go on the bar." He nodded his head to a silver bar with holes in it that was suspended about 10 feet above the ground. Luckily there was no one in it now.

@Watcher had been told to meet the contact in the central market at noon. The contact would be in the market each day at noon and stay for about 1 hour. He was also giving a description of the contact. It was too late today to try and make contact. They would need to wait till tomorrow.

The town was dirty as @Vela had said. As they drove through the town some sections were clean and taken care of, but most weren't. And some were down right squalor. Did they stay for the protection of the walls? Did the walls protect them? Vela said the vamps came here to feed. Did the guards not stop them?

You have about 20 hours to kill before you can make contact. What are you doing to kill the time? Are you staying in town and finding a room? Are you sleeping out in wild?

Watcher slows down a little to listen to the guard share his version of how thing will be in town. Nodding to the guard he asks. "Should we need lodgings for a couple nights, where should we go?"

Once they have the information Watcher moves through the streets to the place indicated then looking to the rest of the team asks, "Should one of you reserve us a residence?" Knowing he was to large to casually move around anyplace here not designed for the so called Pogtal Dragon Slayers that have been known to roam this far north on occasion.

An evening of dance would be amazing, and listening to the stories of those who live here in this land he had not previously seen would be supreme. So as time allows Watcher listens to and encourages as many stories as possible from the locals.

“We are not here for trouble, sir guardian,” Vikon tells the guard checking them as they pass through the gate. “Thank you for your service.”

Vikon was sad to see the garbage and refuse in the streets. He could sense the river nearby, outside the walls, and how sickly it was. He felt cut off from nature here, though he still felt his powers.

“A good place to rest for the night would be wise,” Vikon agreed with Watcher. He looked to Vela, who had been through the city before. “Sister Ashlynn mentioned she had befriended a pegasus here before, and that it got her on the bad side of the city’s ruler. Do you recommend a place to stay? Where did you stay before?”

Staying in the city would be unpleasant but not unbearable. At least it was somewhat safe, although people could be as bad as monsters sometimes. While waiting for the others to small talk and find lodgings, Peta makes a mental note to look up a few people in town. There were some gangs here who might know more about vampires roaming the streets. If they were going to stay the night he might as well get some sport out of it.

Piping up after the others have finished he inquires about vampires, "Is there a bounty on blood suckers in this town?"

Trowel stopped the vehicle and grabbed his gear desperate to leave the uncomfortable confines. Quickly he said, “I’ll find us a place to stay that has a nice room for you Watcher! Vik common keep me alive and all that.”
He did not really need adult supervision but Vik knew some tales of actual legends, and Trowel was all ears for that. “Tell me some more about this Pegasus.”

He scampered into the city hopefully with the rugged elementalist looking for a top notch inn that would be friendly to a Sphinx.

As the two begin to split off on their own Watcher halts them for an important question. "Do you think it is better to stay in larger groups and maintain contact with one another in case of trouble?"

Then looking around to the others he adds. "Who is willing to join them to form a group of three?" Once the group of three is formed Watcher relaxes a little as they head off knowing that they will be more likely to have one of them escape if ambushed or if their mission fails.

Trowel’s enthusiasm at Vik’s sordid retelling of the Pegas’ tale was almost sidelined by Watcher’s apt if not boring question. Heck yeah Pegas’ and a harness man! This guy has the details down... Ugggg another adult...?

Vik it appeared was the least like an adult of the bunch and it would just break Trowel if a third wheel was added unless it was bat coming with. There were things you could do with a bat humansized or otherwise that would grease the wheels in a town like this.

Trowel pipped up quickly, “Eliza... Totally should come with us.”

Back to Vik, he continued to pry for details about the legendary Hero Ashlyn, “What kind of harness are we talking about?”

Ok it is time for everyone to roll networking rolls.

Yes the new sheriff has a bounty on the blood suckers.
Yes the new sherrif has a bounty on the blood suckers, but several city council members are on the take and trying to hinder the bounty program. There may even be hidden blood sucking dens in the city.


You find a place that is only slightly over priced and no one is trying to kill you.
You find a clean little inn off the main path. The inn keeper is a sweet little old lady that absolutely adores you. You treats Trowel like her own grandson and bakes him all kinds of cookies and pies. When you look closer the inn is protected by a state of the art security system so no one messes with it or her.

Hungry and bored, Peta Chate takes to the streets of New Del Rio looking for a lead on some supper - served with a side dish of vengeance. He looks in all the usual haunts trying to get information on vampires, and is suprised it's harder than the thought. Then again, humans are always oblivious to the dangerous around them. Probably a survival skill, if they coul sense and smell the evil around them every day like Peta could they would probably go insane.

Not above spreading some cash around to find the best meals, Peta dangles a few credits for information at the local MerOps outpost.

Growling when he hooks back up with the group he lays the situation on them, 'I believe this town is subject to a vampire infestation. Maybe even among their elders and leaders. I wish to put a dent in their ranks tonight, if only to feed. But, we should pass this information back to the legion so they can send in exterminators." He smiles widely, "Unless we want to take the time to do it ourselves."

Orius stayed with the mountaineer so he could get Bastion up and running while the others explored the city and met with the contact.

He looked to Bastion and the shorn off stub of a hand that was slowly regrowing as he brought forth his ppe. “Don’t worry big guy. I’ll get you back to new.”

Vikon and Trowell walked through town, and the tall, muscular young man proved popular with the local ladies. He was often blushing, though; clearly he was not in the mold of Jude Maverick. They pointed out an inn just off the main market, but quietly informed him it was overpriced, and if he wanted a good place, he should detour to this out of the way little lane.

Vikon and Trowell went to check out the other place, and found it tended to by a little old lady. She took an immediate shine to Trowell, pinching the boy’s cheeks and offering him fresh from the oven chocolate chip cookies, with fresh apple pie out of the oven soon to come. Vikon glanced around, and noted a state of the art security system. This place would be good to stay, and it was cheaper than the main inn.

Vikon radioed in his address to the rest of the team to join them.

Bored from having nothing to do as they stroll around town, Watcher is excited and can feel his heart rate change at the mention of Vampires. "Perhaps, you would enjoy some company as you hunt your prey?" He offers up as he decides to join @Peta Chante.

"Have you hunted with a Sphinx before Peta?" He asks as he prepares to help with the hunting. Watcher hated to admit that he was not as skilled at hunting as the Psi-stalker, instead deciding to offer to help in their pursuit of the prey. As the go, he kept his eyes alert and aware for signs that he could point out to the predator. "Did, you notice the dark aura on those men. Perhaps they could be food for your prey, or somehow work with them?" He asks.

As the team starting coming downstairs they could smell then see that the inn keeper had prepared a massive breakfast. Eggs, toast, potatoes, bacon, sausage, pan cakes, fruit, green chilies, and hot sauce. There is even chocolate ship pan cakes for @Trowel. The group hears the stairs creak, then realize it was not the stairs but Peta's weary bones coming down the step. Satiated by stiff the stalker eschews most of the food but relishes the coffee and a heaping plate of meat. As they discuss their plans he mainly grunts and chews. Eventually he speaks up, "I made some connections with some locals yesterday. Maybe even earned a little street cred. I can ask around about the market and anything we need to watch out for."

Vikon settled down at breakfast with the others, grateful for the coffee and the large spread. He was a growing boy! He made himself a breakfast sandwich with the toast, eggs, and bacon, throwing on the green chilies and plenty of hot sauce.

“I can go and scout out the market before the meet,” Vikon offered, wiping hot sauce from his chin. “Where in the market are we meeting? Or is our contact going to be wearing something to mark him and we have to find him?” Vikon wasn’t used to cities. There were too many people. He wondered how they would find their contact in the crowds.

Watcher hates assuming this smaller form, but the incompetent humans who built the city failed to realize something a wonderous as he would be there. As he joins the others for breakfast he looks around greeting those who arrived and listening as conversation begins. The food was delicious, Watcher had rarely eaten so much human food as he was sustained off of his own amazing power. But enjoying cuisine not and then was not unheard of and this was a remarkable meal. Watching the psi-stalker eat the meal, he nods. That does sound like an excellent idea, he had little to add to it himself. "Does anyone have anything to add to @Peta Chante's excellent idea? Who will lead the effort?" Assuming Peta would, Watcher waited for others to offer help.

and notices Trowel did not join them. "Did any of you notice the human child was missing? Was he eaten, or did he explain anything to anyone, or must we find him?"


I know Pender said he needed to take some time off, potentially up to a year and not sure how his character will exodus, so I am taking liberties that can be edited out if Jon and Boyce have something else better in mind.

The CS is already in New Del Rio and are looking for your contact too.
The CS is in town and is closing in our your contact. The have snipers covering the market everyday. There is also rumors that some very power mages and maybe a dragon entered the city late yesterday
You notice several people that stick out. They are not really shopping and look more like they are waiting for something.
You see several CS soldiers. Even out of their uniforms they stick out. You also see at least one sniper on overwatch.


The Market was crowded when they entered it. Making there way through the stalls and throngs of people, they could see all kinds of wares. From roasted meat to laser rifles, the market seamed to have it all. Watcher had told them the contact would meet them at the stall, with the street taco vendor who wore a crazy hat. What is a crazy hat anyways? They had passed several vendors selling street tacos and some had hats but none looked very crazy.

@Vikon Athir had come earlier to scout out the market. The group kept pushing through the stalls looking for the crazy hat and waiting for Vikon to make contact.

If so, they’ve got sniper support, so maybe check rooftops. Oddly, I’ve got rumors they might have a powerful mage or dragon with them, which would be odd for the Coalition. Not sure what to make of that. Keep your eyes peeled.”

Unfortunately, Vikon wasn’t sure how much of that got through, because his radio squelched and squealed and just in general didn’t want to work right.

Having spent the previous evening skulking through the streets and alley ways of New Del Rio, Peta already knew a few people he could lean on for information. While he normally was on the lookout for vampires the Coalition was not far off in terms of malignancy. But at least they generally pointed their weapons in the right direction when it came to vamps and demons. Not wanting to waste any time he strolls through the market until he spots a pick pocket, following the young d-bee into an alley way the Psi-Stalker grabs him by the scruff of his neck and holds him up against a wall.

"Don't need you to give that back, but I need you to tell me what's new out there today. If you don't well," Peta flashes the vibro-knife in his belt sheath. "Where I come from we cut off people's hand for stealing."

The kid was up to something, but it didn't really matter to Peta. Instead the Psi-Stalker signalled to something or someone unseen.

Niakit, the Phantom wolf, stalks invisibly up toward the roof. Ready to pounce on his master's command. For his part Peta stays where he is and stares up at the sniper with a hard look. Then starts to scale the wall toward the shooter forcing him to lean over the edge to get an angle on the Psi-Stalker. As he bends over, Niakit pounces from the immaterial plane into reality
With a raise on their attack roll, Phantom Wolves hit their target's most weakly armored location

The purple flame burn brief and hot then went out.

The magus pulled power into herself then begin channeling it. In front of her a swirling pulsing black rift opened and a large monstrosity stepped out and began to smash it's way through the market towards the contact.
Next to her a elf scanned the market for a second then locking eyes onto @Watcher he stops and stares briefly before @Watcher falls to the ground and every nerve is his body explodes in agony

Feeling the power wash over him, Watcher lift his left eye brow to the side as he locks eyes with the elf. "Would you place your power against mine mortal?" He knew the arrogance of elves and they always felt insulted when you pointed out their pathetic 600 year life span compared to true creatures of magic was like the life of a dog. Then concentrating he pulled into himself his mind and accelerated his perception of time, wrapping himself in darkness.

Vela put her hand just under the neckline of her blouse, over the golden disc of her amulet, invoking its power. Then she leapt into a run, vanishing behind a building. Once she felt the enemy could not easily see her, she transformed into her 'true' form, a humanoid jaguar-person. With claws that easily dug into the stucco of New Del Rio construction, she scaled up towards the nearest sniper, intending to ambush the ambushers...
