Weird Wars: Crown & Country

Post by stormwell »

With my Savage Iron Kingdoms coming to an end, I'll looking at running an alternative game.

Weird Wars is something I've had an eye to run for some point, especially as somebody has been working on updating it to SWADE.

My idea is have the characters me part of a fictional unit over the course of WW2, though the players will have a choice at certain points where they go (ie SE Asia/Burma or Europe for example). Default unit is a British infantry unit, due to greater possibilities and me being more familiar with British Commonwealth military practice.

Character Creation Guidelines

As the characters are generally going to be British they have the National Identity: British Pluck Edge for free. This grants +2 on Spirit rolls vs Fear and Intimidation.

A Weird Wars SWADE update document can be found here; https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Oc- ... sp=sharing

Weapons Issue

Lee-Enfield Mk.III .303 24/48/96; 2d8; RoF 1; AP 1; Shots 10M; Weight 9; Notes: Snapfire, Min Str d6

Cool, probably time that I posted some details.

The unit that your characters are part of is called the Gwentshire Rifles, it is a county regiment (named after and normally recruits from a specific county) of the fictional county of Gwentshire. This county is roughly located where North Somerset is in real life, basically to the south-west of the port city of Bristol. Some details about it can be found here; http://www.utherwaldpress.com/2018/04/t ... shire.html

Thinking of starting the game by having the first adventure take place during the Phony War period, round October/November 1939 time with the second adventure taking place in the spring of 1940.

Any questions?

Gwentshire Rifles, I like it!

Q: will you wait to have more players? (for what is worth, in my experience PbP games with 2 or 3 players only work great)

Q: are you thinking to start from Novice?

Additional question: will I be brutalized for absolutely buggering up British slang? Should I not even try in the interest of not offending the real Brits in the group?

No, I'll probably be the only Brit but I can dig up a link or two for WW2 era slang.

An overall response, I have three people who've expressed interested.

Though this week has been busy for me having to work extra shifts that have required a 90 minute commute, so haven't had as much time as I'd like to get stuff sorted. Also got to prep for a one-shot game next week, but once that's all done I can give this more attention.

Added some stuff regarding character creation to the first post.

Also, forgot to answer this, you'll be starting from Novice.

I'll be posting some notes regarding weapons soon as well.

Had a look, thanks.
Looking at the core WWII book, for Army soldiers as riflemen would be, we can choose these Military Occupational Specialities (p8-9):

-Armored Vehicle Crewman
-Artilleryman
-Combat Engineer
-Infantry
-Medic
-Officer
-Paratrooper
-Scout
-Sniper

May have another player for this.

Also started on Weapon Issue (see first post) and also managed to pick up a book about the story of Dunkirk, which goes into some detail on the Phony War period.
